Nairaland GeneralShopping Tips For Black Friday by bakingsoda(op): 10:45am On Nov 10, 2015

Another awoof* season is here and we cannot wait to pounce on the shopping malls to shop for various items of our choice. I am also on the queue. It is important not to get carried away in our excitement, as shopping at this time of the year poses some risks as well as benefits. Here are some tips that will help you get the most of Black Friday.

Be prepared for your shopping
You can accomplish this by having a list of the items you want to buy and the stores you plan to get them from. If you are shopping online, make sure your device is ready (well charged and working in perfect condition) and you have enough data to do your shopping. Also have your size, the color of the item, the brand and other necessary information that would speed up your shopping ready because Black Friday is a mad race for the fast ones.

Start your shopping early
Start shopping early as some of the items you may be interested in might be put on countdown timers. The earlier you start shopping, the better it is for you to get exactly what you want out of Black Friday.

Make yourself comfortable
If you are shopping offline, be careful not to be trapped in the crowd and also be vigilant. In fact, dress very smartly and hold your belongings close. For safety reasons, it is advisable not to take your little ones along if you are shopping from a store that would be over crowded on Black Friday. After shopping, there may be a long queue for payment, make yourself comfortable by finding someplace to sit while you wait for your turn, you may also pass time by playing games or listening to music on your mobile device.

Pay on delivery
The advantages of paying on delivery when shopping on Black Friday cannot be overemphasized especially if you are shopping online. One, if the item delivered is not satisfactory, you may simply reject the order and take your money to the offline malls for a better alternative; no time wasted. Another benefit is that the mad rush does not only occur on the buyers' side; there is a crazier rush on the online stores end as they will be working non stop and tirelessly to meet delivery deadlines. So for your order to get to you on time, you should start your shopping early as sales will rise extremely leading to an increase in orders to be delivered.

Be sure of the return policy before paying
For you not to be stuck with an item that you cannot make use of, make sure the items you are buying qualify for returns on the Returns Policy of the store you are shopping from.

What are your tricks for getting the most of Black Friday?

FamilyThe Baby Walking Assistant by bakingsoda(op):
A baby walking assistant also known as parent-assisted baby walkers is an equipment that is designed to assist children learn how to walk. It is very similar in design to leading strings that were used in Europe in the 17th and 18th Century. The leading strings were narrow straps of fabric attached to children's clothing to function as a sort of leash to keep the child from straying too far or falling as they learned to walk. The purpose of using leading strings then was to restrain the movement of children who were just learning to walk from moving into an unsafe place and also to prevent them from injuring themselves.

The baby walking assistant presents a safer method of teaching children of 6 - 12 months old how to walk compared to the baby walker because the baby walking assitant cannot be used without the support of the parent. The baby walker is no longer widely accepted as it used to be as studies have suggested that contrary to popular beliefs that it assists a baby to learn how to walk faster, it actually slows down the speed at which a child learns how to walk. As of today, it is an offence to sell or possess a baby walker in Canada as it has remained banned since 2004 for child safety and development reasons.

The baby walking assistant comes in washable cotton material and belts with solid plastic locks and handles. It relieves the parents from the stress of having to restrict the movement of the child every now and then during the learning stage as the child is usually supported while using it. It is comfortable and safe to use as the baby is able to walk upright while being supported by the parent, however, parents should always ensure that the locks are properly tightened at all times, especially when it is in use. It is also advisable to wash this item regularly as children tend to put whatever they lay their hands on in their mouth for identification purpose.

The baby walking assistant is available in different colours and designs as can be seen in the images. You can buy it on Jumia, Konga, Amazon, Diapers.com. Ali Express, Ebay, Desertcart.ae, and other numerous online and offline stores around you.

Three tips for an attractive CV

A curriculum vitae (CV) is a written overview of a person's experience and other qualifications. A cv is also called a résumé. A CV does not usually have to follow a strict layout or format, but in order to attract an employer's attention and get invited for an interview, your CV aside having good qualifications and skills stated on it, should contain only relevant information and laid out beautifully on A4 sized plain white paper.

These three (3) tips give an insight into a standard CV.

Tip 1: Make it simple
Avoid unnecessary grammar, too much formatting and inclusion of unnecessary information such as the color of your eyes, your best food. Such information is only necessary if you are going for a beauty contest or similar events, in which case you would be given a personal history form to fill.

Tip 2: Display more of your skills than your work experience
This is relevant mostly to job hoppers. Instead of making a list of all your work experiences, you may display two or three of your experiences that are similar to the post you are applying for on the particular CV you are to send to the employer. You may then convert the duties performed at your other jobs (the jobs not displayed on the particular CV) to skills and display them under the skills section of your CV.

The essence of doing this includes but not limited to: not coming across the employer as a job hopper. Some employers view job hopping as a negative career attitude and this may truncate your chance of getting interviewed if the employer in that organisation falls into this category; having a short cv that is filled with information relevant to the job you are applying for, thereby making the employer go through the length of your CV if they like what they see; displaying more skills than work experience on your CV presents you as a versatile individual.

Tip 3: Use a simple layout
I have seen CVs displayed like maps or even worse. A badly designed CV makes it difficult for the employer to go through your CV and this may cause your CV being thrown in the trash even though the content is rich.

In addition, it is important to go through your CV from time to time; this would assist you in identifying any of your skill areas you may need to improve on.

BusinessThree Common Challenges For Starting Entrepreneurs by bakingsoda(op):
The 17th and 18th century entrepreneur meant a person who organised or operated a business. Linguistic and practical arguments beyond that period, asserted that an entrepreneur meant a person who designed and grew new businesses. We agree with the latter and bear that in mind through the body of this post.

Starting out as an entrepreneur is often challenging - even after that, it is challenging for an entrepreneur. Hence, it may be a good idea for an entrepreneur to learn how to rise above the challenges and realise great results at lesser costs.

Considering cases of several entrepreneurs, over the years till date, we identified these three common challenges entrepreneurs often have to rise above:

Challenge #1

Self

As a human, the challenge of the self is often inevitable for an entrepreneur - as the self is the entrepreneur's main fabric of existence. The self is an embodiment of the entrepreneur's personality.

An entrepreneur always has to nurture beliefs, raise ideas, keep commitment, start action, observe reaction and uphold responsibility. The readiness of an entrepreneur to do these things and the quality with which the entrepreneur does them determines the entrepreneurial success.

Poor belief system, lack of ideas, feeble commitment, failure to act, misinterpretation of outcomes and neglect of responsibility are noted among major reasons for failure among most entrepreneurs.

Challenge #2

Skill

Skill is the most priceless possession of an entrepreneur - and it is rarely possessed abundantly enough for it not to be a challenge for the entrepreneur. Skill is the crude and readily available work ability of the entrepreneur.

Skill in its primary form of existence is often of only little potential. Hence, skill has to be trained and developed to its full potential and finest. Some skills wane with environmental development, entrepreneurs must always catch up.

Many entrepreneurs have suffered bitter startups and unhappy endings, owing to lack of skills or simply poor skills.

Challenge #3

Market

Without the market, an entrepreneur will starve - to death, maybe. This makes the challenge of the market as critical to an entrepreneur as that of the self and skill. The market is the demand point for the entrepreneur's services and products.

An entrepreneur's worse misery is that the market is uncontrollable - it is not within the control of the entrepreneur. The market may be nonexistent, its participants may be uninformed, the infrastructures may be underdeveloped or its operation limited. Mostly, no choice for an entrepreneur, but to leverage on whatever the state and manner of the market is from time to time.

Inability to leverage market situations and conditions towards entrepreneurial success has led to the surrender of many entrepreneurs to the fate of other endeavours.

Advice

For starting entrepreneurs, it is of great worth to look into these three areas of challenge and make major resolutions and preparations ahead of entrepreneurial pursuit. It may also be useful to keep them in mind throughout the entrepreneurial journey.

FoodMore Info On Chicken Shawarma by bakingsoda(op): 10:27pm On Oct 16, 2015
Chicken Shawarma is a very delicious snack that can serve as a meal. It is filling and nutritious. It is well packed with lots of vegetables such as carrot, lettuce, cabbage, cucumber, onion, garlic, and spiced chicken with chicken soft bones. The outer crust is soft and crunchy to taste.

Chicken shawarma is a fresh, tasty and very affordable snack that is loved by all. It is healthy and packed filled with healthy vegetables, rich in protein, and can help in easing depression, as chicken contains tryptophan, an amino acid that may be useful as an antidepressant.

Mind you, you might not be satisfied by eating just one of this sumptuous snack. You might be tempted to eat more of it. Another minus is that chicken shawarma is not excluded in the saying that too much of everything is bad.

You can get yours at Tasty Fried Chicken, Ogba and other snacks outlets.

Jobs/VacanciesWhy You Should Use Good Humor During Interviews by bakingsoda(op): 2:57pm On Oct 12, 2015
As a job seeker, you must have read several articles on how to excel at interviews, or let's water it down, how to land a job. Your research must have seen you perusing several CV layouts, how to answer interview questions, how to dress to interviews and even how to speak.

In recent times, the myth of having a particular type of CV has been debunked by several career experts. All that matters is the content and presentation. Likewise, the dreaded interview session is gradually being simplified and shifted away from the sober and serious session it had to be.

The job seeker always sees interviews as an opportunity to display how serious minded, hardly distracted and business ready he is to his prospective employer. But, one thing job seekers fail to realise is that the business environment has really changed in recent times and employers are also searching outside the box for an individual that can get the job done and not just an overqualifed, moderately qualified, qualified or under qualified robot. What sells is no longer the content of your CV, but your person, as vast numbers of more qualified candidates are there. If your CV says you are qualified, you get invited for an interview. The essence of the interview is to match your person to the content of your CV, or better, to give your CV a voice.

This is where using humor during an interview comes in. When asked to talk about yourself don't just recite the content of your CV or expel some memorized lines. What your employer expects of you is to communicate in a relaxed manner with vivid scenarios of how you as a person can move their organisation forward.

Your behavior, language, facial expression and gestures tell the prospective employer more than what you are actually saying. You don't have to sit and talk in a serious tone before you show your interviewer that you are qualified, you might even pass a wrong message with this posture; you might indirectly be telling your employer that you are a frustrated job seeker that would say anything to be employed.

What I am saying in essence is that for your next job interview be yourself, be lively and relaxed.

Christianity EtcDivine Harmony by bakingsoda(op): 7:05pm On Oct 01, 2015
I found this piece in my library and I feel we need this as a constant reminder of the most neglected fact that we are one.

"In my old age, I have undertaken the present world tour, with all its attendant hardships, only with the mission of delivering the message of peace and goodwill to my fellow beings so that they might be able to avoid conflicts and quarrels and to live in harmony.

After years of serious thinking, I have come to the conclusion that the real cause of human strife and wars consists in selfishness, on the one hand and the forgetfulness of God on the other. When people begin to act in utter self-interest, when the social obligations are forgotten, when one can stoop down so low as to pursue one's interests at the cost of the rights of the other, harmony and concord recede in the background. Similarly, when men become so engrossed in earthrootedness that they do not find the occasion to remember their Creator even formally, when the relations between the supreme source of power are cut off, when we cease to feel that by breaking the divinely appointed laws of nature, we are only destroying the harmony of human existence, peace must become a thing unattainable.

We all experience it in our daily lives that whenever we break the physiological laws of nature, we feel ill and have to endure bodily pain. Similarly is the case of the divinely-ordained moral laws. By breaking them, we invite nothing else than misery. If one breaks the heart of someone today, one must be ready to suffer a similar pain tomorrow.

Everyday and every night you hear music and songs in the recreational programmes over the radio. Did you ever consider from where this melody, which captivates your hearts and enchants your ears, did acquire that sweetness?

If you have seen an orchestra, you must have noticed that it always contains several musical instruments, each one possessing its own sounds and tunes. Now, if all the instruments are played at one and the same time, and the players make it a point to play independently, you will hear nothing but discordant and jarring sounds. It is only when those in charge of the orchestration bring the different tune of the different instruments into harmony with one another, that you get that symphony which enthralls and thrills not only the listeners but the players themselves.

Thus, I would like you to consider every human figure like the musical instrument participating in musical performance. Learn the lesson of harmony from the orchestra. Remember that the moment you succeed in creating the requisite harmony with your fellow being, melodious tune will emanate from human life, imparting that sweetness which unfortunately, has now become a thing of the past.

Beautiful faces and beautiful things come before you, day and night enchanting your hearts. You say that you consider the face of so and so as beautiful, and you declare your love for that beauty. At this occasion I would not drag you into a discussion on the nature of love. I might tell you later on, that what people call love today is not love in the real sense or the term, but only a name for vulgar appetites, rooted in the lower form of desire. Actually love denotes that holy state of mind which has no reference to self-interest and baser passions.

However even if you think that love is nothing but an inclination which is sensuous in nature, I would like you to consider the problem: from where came this beauty and grace which attract your hearts? From where came those superior distinctions which make you bow down? Could these material bodies become so beautiful and seemingly so perfect by themselves, or, is there some Supreme power who creates the beauty and imparts distinctions? If you doubt the existence of that Supreme Being, we might discuss it at some other occasion. But if your nature itself and your inner voice tells you that there is someone who is the maker of this universe, then rest assured that all this beauty and perfection which you see in this world is only a manifestation of that really Beautiful and Perfect Being whom all sensible people of all religions call God. One step further you shall be able to feel that, if the beauty and perfection of created things are so attractive, how beautiful and perfect should He be who is the Creator.

You allow yourselves to be absorbed in the beauty of created things. But I would like you to focus your attention on Him, the really beautiful and the really perfect being, in Whom is the origin of all life. Think of Him and love Him. Your attitude of love will help in increasing your consciousness of God's omnipresence. Until you will find it impossible to act against His law. Then you will hurt none, you will break the heart of none, you will cheat none, and you will insult none. On the other hand you will feel the blacks and the whites, the poor and the rich, the lowly and the high-placed are all God's family and consequently your own brothers and sisters. Your love for God will compel you inwardly to love your fellow beings. When this attitude of mind has been attained, the world will have peace in the true sense of the word.

You are accustomed to hear the melodies of human song from the radio. Today you have heard about the melody of Divine Harmony. Let us henceforth think of God and Love Him with ever-increasing devotion, let us adopt the higher forms of human morals, and let us endeavour to build up a true Humanity."
