Tayeni: OP.....i have always questioned the aesthistics of the flag too.....looking bland when placed beside other flags.....some idiots had to cuss you out and didnt even spare your ancestors...initially i was vexed on your behalf.....but when you brought tribalism into it i began to have a rethink that maybe you deserve every vile name they have been calling you
i never introduced tribalism in my statement. i dont care who got the award, but there was no brain work in the design

Nigerian women lead in skin bleaching
The World Health Organisation, WHO, has said 77
percent of women in Nigeria use skin-lightening
products, the world’s highest percentage. The
figure compares with 59 percent in Togo, and 27
percent in Senegal.
The WHO report said the reasons for this are
varied but most people said they use skin-
lighteners because they want “white skin”.
WHO also said skin bleaching comes with
hazardous health consequences. The dangers
associated with the use of toxic compounds for
skin bleaching include, blood cancers such as
leukemia and cancers of the liver and kidneys, as
well as severe skin conditions. It said hardcore
bleachers use illegal ointments containing toxins
like mercury, a metal that blocks production of
melanin, which gives the skin its colour, but can
also be toxic.
The report said in many parts of Africa, lighter-
skinned women are considered more beautiful
and believed to be more successful and likely to
find marriage. It also said it is not only women
who are obsessed with bleaching their skins.
Some men too are involved in the practice.
* In extreme cases of skin
bleaching, the skin can
become multi-coloured
and marred with
inflammation or scarring.
* In extreme cases of skin bleaching, the skin
can become multi-coloured and marred with
inflammation or scarring.
WHO investigation said lightening creams are not
effectively regulated in Nigeria where even
roadside vendors sell tubes and plastic bags of
powders and ointments from cardboard boxes
stacked along sidewalks in market districts.
Many of the tubes are unlabelled as to their
actual ingredients.
Qatar based Al Jazeera also reported that
business is booming for shops selling skin-
lightening products. A trader said, “About 90
percent of my clients come asking for skin
whitening products,” adding “I sell it to them and
give advice on what product is best for them and
how to use them.”

UnknownT: In my own case, I am not against the ingenuity of d flag. He won a competition, and he was given the prize money #100000(someone confirm the zeroes), he studied abroad and came back, worked as a civil servant and retired. If some of his mates who went abroad with him then later made it in life, why do we then blame government for 'neglecting' him? It was not as if he designed the flag for free, he won a prize and was paid. Some bankrupt footballer will later blame Govt for abandoning them when during their prime, they were paid for each appearance + winning/draw bonuses. Its high time we stopped blaming Govt if someone who after he must have gained from the government in his prime by his own bad luck or what ever reasons became "poor". Kudos to GEJ sha!
He was a civil servant, on government pay roll doing his Job. He was paid 100,000 pounds in those which translate to millions. imagine that amount those days. yet he was begging for food before GEJ intervened. if he had designed the flag free of charge I would called him a hero and deserves the award. he ate his cake and had it back. when you here that the man who designed Nigeria flag is left on cared for you will think he designed it for free. very boring flag.

Typical of a particular tribe.

Melancholy: question for the gods. After you've google what it represent, u still come on nairaland to ask an embarrassing question. Least i forget, algeria and saudi arabia got same parti-colour.
theirs make sense, they are muslim countries and green is an Islamic colour
Islam is synonymous with green.

The Coat of Arms of Nigeria has a black shield with two white lines that form in a "Y" shape. The black shield represents Nigeria's fertile soil, while the two horses or chargers on each side represent dignity. The eagle represents strength, while the green and white bands on the top of the shield represent the rich soil.[1]

The red flowers at the base are Costus spectabilis, Nigeria's national flower. This flower was chosen for inclusion in the coat of arms as it is found all over Nigeria and also stand for the beauty of the nation. The white wavy pall represents the Niger and the Benue. On the banderole around the base is Nigeria's national motto since 1978: "Unity and Faith, Peace and Progress" (formerly "Peace, Unity, Freedom"wink

See the Ingenuity in this master peace. Do know who designed this?

Next u ll need to find out wat d colors (green white green) represent and its interpretation. r
Then u ll b able to appreciate d work of d 23yrs old undergraduate (Now, Pa Akinkunmi) and his timeless brilliant idea.

tonytony208: ahahahah. Big time eediot! You are so empty. You pple are so confused. Which one do u really want? Biafra or lagos? When the birds come home to roost, it will hit you like film trick. My prayer to you: pls continue to buy. When IT happens, we shall all see how you will lay claim. Is it not someone who is alive and well that will lay claims? Flaathead, believe me you are a fool. And i sincerely pray you will not wake up until......
Remember how cowardly your tribe could be. dont work hard wait for the day nigeria will divide so that you will feed on the crumbs. that day will never come and you will wait for the rest of your generation. Igbos are not ready for another war. who will start another one? your tribes men? come on! you are a finished tribe. Lagos is an occupied territory of the Biafrans. you know how the jews have occupied the west bank and Gaza. and golan hieght? that is how we are expanding our living space in the west.

Fellow Nairalanders is There any special or ingenuity in the design of Nigerian flag?
a primary one child can put colors together and and give us a master piece.
green has been a colour white too is a common color

Past leaders who have refused to honor him know that that the man did not do a good job.
He just put those two colors together and maybe he submted those colors the same
day he was given the contract with know brain work.

what do yo think. The Man Michael Taiwo Akinkumi was over celebrated in this award.
too much media hype

Fabdedon: i was there i could not even stand there to watch the match..cos stones were raining like brime stones.... And the OP should give the correct/real gist pls #no offence... The woman that was being hit by d okada man didnt sustain any injury.. Just ha stew she pushed with the barrow spilled.. And an igbo guy who was sampling his market wares which was tiles left his business to face another business which is to help settle the case.. Am sure the okada man felt like watin concern you.. So as the igbo guy realised truely its not hus business and turned back to move on.. The okada man stabbed him at the BACK..NOT HEAD..and other igbo guys there reacted to the situation..the stabber escaped and the stabee was taken to the hospital.. fast forward... The angry igbo guys rushed other hausa guys and (you know how bikes are hjacked in grand theft) hijacked their bikes and cars... About 30 bikes were burnt and i think only 1 car was burnt not 35..but other hausa car owners lost their cars to damages...befor the sequrity operatives attend to the case with tear gas...
Eye witness ... saburi resident
No body has the monopoly of violence. I have never seen anywhere in Nigeria where Igbos start violence 1st. Igbos are peace loving. They are peaceful where ever they do their business. I have never hard where riot is said to be started by igbo group. but you cannot intimidate an Igbo man. that one na follow come.

long live Igbos
