I have worked in pre-hospital care in the states and I am shocked to hear about doctors refusals to treat an injured pt without police report!!!!!!
If a doctor tries it here and the pt dies or gets worse because of neglet he maybe saying a crying goodbye to the medical field!! Fact!!!

I'm glad you brought that out NRI Priest, that practice is contrary to Medical practice, I think many Nigerian cant stand for their right, there should be a campaign that should address this situation, matching to Aso Rock villa making the President, the Senate President aware of this situation might bring their eyes into what they suppose to look at and hopefully them might address it.

Outstrip:
I really feel we should have a section on nairaland for name and shame situations. EG hospitals. These people turning you away at the door have names. Write them down and bring them here and let people know. In the future when people want to get a review of doctors to avoid they can come on nairaland and read about it.

That might help and even bring perpetrators to quick justice and be bannished from medical line.

I share your frustrations at op!.The issues you raised though not entirely correct are simply examples of failure of governance.The Drs (I inclusive) are an integral part of this failed society.Nevertheless,no police report is required to attend to an accident victim!.However that of police report before attending to an accident victim has been waived by the lawmakers.It was a silly policy.However the Dr (at his own risk if you know what I mean),has to inform the police after having commenced treatment.Now,Imagine urself the Dr,after all the stress and challenge,someone comes after your jugular.reason,u treated him and called the police!, this calling! na waa!

If lawmakers have waived it, it might not start to work until 2099, I'm sorry to say that, you should ask, did they put any serious obligation to support the new policy? Have they thought of helping the doctors to be saved if they help people to gain back their life. Can someone tell me why Nigerian Hospitals is so miserable?
I was just thinking of how Nigerian Hospitals have increased the mortality rate in the country because of stupid practice.
What do I mean?
Someone had an accident, you rushed them to the hospital (which in advance country you dont do) well! we know we haven't reached that stage yet, but after getting to the hospital, your hope is to get the injured people treated, but no! 90% of Nigerian Hospital will dear not treat the individual without police report, just think about it people, may be i'm wrong, but i think the whole system is wrong from the beginning. What do i mean?
Nigeria Police wont appear in the accident scene within few minutes of an accident (1st problem)
SO NO POLICE REPORT TO BE GIVEN,
Then the (2nd Problem) arises, no emergency ambulance on standby, to rush the individual to the hospital
And then come to (3rd Problem) no one would want to be a good Samaritan who can help save life
Then (4th Problem), no real training and knowledge on first aid on emergency
Then (5th Problem), no doctor would want to admit anyone that is involve in an accident without police report (Stupidity)
I think even if the first four problems are there, the fifth shouldnt be among (why?) because the aim of medical practitioner is to SAVE LIFE and not to Encourage DEATH.[i][/i]Just imagine a doctor saying he doesnt care whether people die! that's crazy and that's how alot of people have lost their life simply because of stupidity on the part of our doctors. cry

Nigerian government should look into the law preventing doctors from not helping any injured person at any posible way, even as simple as first aid treatment should be done even if there is a risk that the individual might die. It must be looked at that a license of any hospital that fails to admit anyone injured even with (Gun shot wound) shouldnt be admitted should be revoked. Many people have forgotten that those with gunshot wound that might be shot by the police in exchange might still be caught due to the fact that they voluntarily appear in the hospital. Alot of people wont care, they rather thank police for killing them, but the aim is to see evil perpetrators to justice and if law find them guilty fine! the arm of law should make such ones face the consequence of their action.

Am i wrong for thinking this way?
If everyone of us can talk about this issue, probably the Senate and the House of Parliament might consider considering this issue that i'm discussing in this forum.
