PRESS RELEASE: THIS IMPORTATION OF COVID-ORGANICS (CVO) FROM MADAGASCAR IS SIMPLY DISTASTEFUL!
The Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria (PSN) has received the news that the Federal Government of Nigeria is about to import a herbal concoction called COVID Organics (CVO) from Madagascar with utter disbelief. While in principle we would not mind Nigerian government importing any new drug that is proven to cure COVID-19 or indeed any other disease for which we have neither the capacity, nor the technology to produce locally, we are totally appalled that Nigeria is about to spend scarce foreign exchange to import ‘COAL INTO NEWCASTLE’. Even if we are not going to pay for this, it is thoroughly disgraceful that a country that should be the leader of Africa, with the largest GDP will allow itself to be dragged this low. Nigeria has about 174 Universities (43 Federal, 52 State and 79 private), 20 Faculties of Pharmacy and about 69 Federal-Funded Research Institutes (including National Institute for Pharmaceutical Research & Development and the Na-tional Institute for Medical Research) while Madagascar has only 6 Universities, 1 Faculty of Pharmacy and 9 Research Centers!!!
Nigeria has some of the best scientists (Pharmaceutical, Medical, Biochemical, Biological etc.) in the world who have done so much work on natural and herbal medicines. Nigeria has developed a pharmacopeia of natural and herbal products and has one of the richest flora and fauna - potent sources of phytomedicines. Since the outbreak of the COVID-19, a number of them have raised their voices that they have herbal and natural products that can be used to treat or manage COVID-19. Some have patents. Many herbal companies and producers have announced specifically that they have herbal formulations that can do what this ‘inven-tion’ from Madagascar can do.
We have raised our voices severally that the Federal Government should review these claims and help put them through clinical evaluation as most of these producers cannot afford to conduct clinical trials. We have recommended that a portion of the nearly 25 Billion Naira donated/allocated for the COVID-19 pandemic should be dedicated for local research and development. But our Government has remained essentially silent only waiting to participate in WHO sponsored or mandated trials. We have been told that Nigeria is partici-pating in the WHO solidarity trial, but nothing on trying our own inventions and formulations.
Now we want to import COVID Organics. from Madagascar to try? Why are we like this? If the world can sup-ply us synthetic and chemically-sophisticated medicines which we apparently lack the technology to pro-duce, why must we wait for the World to supply us herbal formulations which we can easily make and which we have similar products.
We urge our Government to save Nigerian Pharmaceutical Scientists and other scientists from the shame of having our country import and try herbal remedies which God has given us in abundance and some of which our grandfathers and grandmothers have used for ages. Let us try our own local formulations before we try COVID Organics or any other imported remedy. Every well-meaning nation has been in a race to find cures, remedies and other medical supplies used for COVID-19, while we seem to wait for other nations to solve our problems. There is much talk but little action. This dependency mentality needs to change and now is the time. We must seize this opportunity to look inwards, build confidence on our abilities, competences and re-orientate our national economic philosophy from import dependency to export driven. And Nigeria can beat India and China in the production and export of herbal products if anyone is willing to lead us down this part.

Politics / Just In: Saraki Snubs IGP Idris At Armed Forces Remembrance Day Celebration by Bapy(m): 3:45pm On Jan 15, 2019
The president of the Nigerian Senate, Bukola Saraki, on Tuesday, January 15, reportedly snubbed the retiring Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, at the Abuja venue of the celebration of the Armed Forces Remembrance Day. There has been an ongoing rift between Idris and Saraki. Vanguard reports that the venue, Saraki refused to accept handshake extended to him by Idris at the event held at the National Archade, Abuja. The report said Idris, who was standing near a podium, had saluted the Saraki ahead of a handshake as has been the practice. However, Saraki refused to walk towards Idris to accept the handshake from him. He, instead, steadily looked at Idris and walked away to shake the service chiefs who were standing together with the IGP.

Nairaland / General / 'I Did It': Saudi Teen Fleeing Alleged Family Abuse Arrives In Canada by Bapy(m): 1:15pm On Jan 14, 2019
A Saudi teenager fleeing alleged family abuse arrived in Canada Saturday as an asylum refugee after a harrowing journey in which she was almost forcibly deported back home while changing planes in Thailand. At one point, 18-year-old Rahaf Mohammed Alqunun had barricaded herself in an airport hotel in Bangkok to avoid being taken by Thai authorities. She stirred worldwide sympathy by tweeting about her plight during the week-long ordeal, prompting the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees to declare that she was fleeing alleged family abuse and was in a dangerous situation. The teenage said she feared her family would kill her because she renounced Islam. Under Saudi's strict system of male guardianship, women must get permission from their father, husband, brother or even a son in order to travel or marry. Thailand's immigration police chief Surachate Hakparn told CNN that Alqunun had continued to refuse to meet with her father and brother who had flown to Thailand to take her back. Alqunun's Twitter account, which had been her lifeline to the outside world, was temporarily deactivated Friday but sprang back to life Saturday, sporting pictures of what appeared to be an airplane seat, passport and boarding pass. "3rd country," she wrote, referring to resettlement in Canada. "I did it." The declaration by the UNHCR prompted Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to offer her asylum in Canada. “Canada has been unequivocal,” Trudeau said. “We will always stand up for human rights and women’s rights around the world.” Alqunun smiled broadly as she exited an arrival door at Toronto’s airport Saturday sporting a Canada hoodie. With Alqunun by her side, Canadian Foreign Minister Chrystia Freeland declared: “This a very brave new Canadian.” Freeland said Algunun had made a long journey and preferred to get settled before talking to the media. She joked that the teen did comment about the cold weather but was assured it gets warmer. UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi, who had put Alqunun's on a fast-track, emergency basis, said her plight had underscored the precarious situation faced by millions of refugees worldwide. "Refugee protection today is often under threat and cannot always be assured, but in this instance international refugee law and overriding values of humanity have prevailed," he said. Because Saudi women cannot leave the country without a guardian's permission, some have been forced to flee while on a family vacation in another country. Several have slipped away in Turkey, a popular Saudi tourist destination, then fled to neighboring Georgia, which does not require Saudis to have a visa, the New York Times reports. Many who have fled in the past or seek to in the future exchange information with other Saudi women in private online chat groups, the Times notes. Canada's decision to offer asylum to Alqunun will likely add to the strains with Saudi Arabia that erupted last summer after Canadian officials accused Saudi Arabia of human rights violations and demanded the release of imprisoned activists. The Saudi government responded by freezing all Saudi air flights to Toronto, suspending bilateral trade deals and cancelling scholarships for thousands of Saudi students in Canada.

Nigerian Police Salary Structure 2018 – How NPF Pay Officers.

Nigerian Police Salary Scale… This article will enlightened you more on how much Nigerian Police pay its officers starting from the highest rank to the lowest vacant position. See full information.

Nigerian Police Salary Structure

The Nigerian Police (formally the Nigerian Police Force) is becoming a really cool employment-wise. The salary is considerable. And you’re pretty confident you will get it at the end of every month. This is a post about the Nigerian police ranks and their salaries in 2018.

In total, the Nigerian police is responsible for the peace and order in the country. The police force number consists of about 372 000 people but this number is not enough to prevent all the criminal cases. This is why it was recently approved that the police staff will increase to about 650 000 police officers.

So, first of all, we should mention that the Nigerian police is a rather serious structure, which was built in 1930. Nowadays, it consists of 36 teams which is spread across the country and are classified into 12 various zones. It should be noted here that all these zones are operated by the seven various administrative organs. There are over 2 000 police stations in Nigeria.
