PoliticsJonathan Endorses Creation Of N-delta Trust Fund by baqina(op): 9:23am On Apr 27, 2013
By Chris Ochayi
UYO: President Goodluck Jonathan has endorsed the establishment of a Multi-Stakeholder Trust Fund, MSTF, in order to fast tract the development of the Niger Delta region.

President Jonathan who endorsed the mechanism Friday while inaugurating the 40-member National Council on Niger Delta at the Le Meridien Hotel, Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, said, the process will create development partners to ensuring transformation of the region.

The proposed MSTF is expected to solve the decades of funding problems faced in the process of developing the region.

Under this arrangement as contained in the Niger Delta Action Plan, developed by the Ministry, the MSTF will mobilise an additional $200 million, about N3.2billion,  as the first tranche of funding.

President Jonathan who was represented by his Vice President Arch. Namadi Sambo, said, the government is committed to push forward a new dawn of development in the region.

He said, “this mechanism will assist the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs to more effectively coordinate development resources from different stakeholders in achieving the intended objectives.

“Today’s event marks one in the series of efforts by the Federal Government to consolidate and reaffirm all commitments to the people of the Niger Delta, made within the framework of the Amnesty programme in 2010.

“We must now capitalize on the prevailing peace frameworks in the region to push forward a new dawn in the region. When we work together, we are better able to unleash our creative potentials in optimising our huge human and natural resources for the stability and prosperity of the Niger Delta, and the good and progress of our people.”

The President stressed further that, “we consider it a priority to sustain the consolidation of the current security situation in order to deepen the very foundations of durable and mutually beneficial peace.

“This is achievable if we forthrightly and with articulation to address the development challenges and neglect of its people.”

He said, this has been the foremost objective in the development of the Niger Delta Action Plan, by this administration, to complement the specific commitments contained in the Amnesty programme.

“This plan is also of great relevant for its concrete, comprehensive and coherent programme of investments in the social and infrastructure sectors of the various communities of the Niger Delta. This enthusiasm that met its recent presentation at the stakeholders’ conference, is an encouraging indication of joint purpose.”

The Action Plan according to him if implemented diligently will help to drive on investment programme of economic and social empowerment that will increase the capacity of communities to partake in their own development process.

PoliticsRe: Nigeria Senators Allowances Revealed by baqina(m): 7:52pm On Apr 14, 2013
I don't think some local governments earn up to 20 million naira per month whereas an individual in d name of being a senator earns above 20M/month, invariably, our senators are richer than our local government, that is criminal.
PoliticsRe: Uyo - City Of Peace And Beauty (Pictures) by baqina(m): 10:04pm On Apr 13, 2013
These are great and wonderful pictures but I don't like the idea of the airport. How many airports are we going to have in Nigeria? Akwa ibom state is close to Cross river state which has international airport and also Rivers state which is just some few nautical miles from Akwa ibom. The money used in building airports here and there should be used in other meaningful projects, the construction of 2nd airport in Lagos state is just a waste of resources and lack of ideas.
Airports do not mean development(s) for example airports in Gombe,Akure, Ilorin, Minna,Delta, Ibadan etc, how have they transform there states?

Sometimes ago, I proposed to a girl. The first thing she said was
"Let me think about it". After 3 days, she said "have always seen u as a friend",
"Am not interested in relationship for now", "I have always seen u as my brother",
"I don't think we can spend the rest of our lives together", "thank you for
Everything u have done for me", " I know u love me but am not feeling it","May God give u a wife that will love and respect", "I hope this will not be the end of our friendship"
And finally, "can we still be friends".

I have stopped calling and sending text to her since she said ds but almost a year
now, she still calls to ask about my welfare.

Every part of the country is now calling for secession... I personally think this is unfair..This was what the Igbos stood for and the Nigeria(ns) fought against them, 2 million of there citizens were sacrificed for it.

If eventually ds occur...the Biafra/ns should be compensated and apologies rendered to them.

(Note: am not Igbo and I have never been to that part of the country)

PoliticsRe: An Intelectual Responce To Chinue Achebe by baqina(m): 10:58pm On Oct 09, 2012
ACM10: Awolowo did not acquit himself in his interview. His interview was filled with lies and half-truths. Some educated minds will find his defense rather insulting. I might be forced to open a thread to bust his lies if people continues to parrot his interview as fact.
Am not bothered with what Awolowo said, my main concern is d way this thing has turned out to be especially on social media, it is as if d war was between the Yorubas and the Igbos, we have all forgotten how the war started which was the killing of igbos in the northern part of the country (that was the genesis of the crisis) and the Yorubas should keep quiet, they did not start and win the war.

My biggest problem is in what Achebe said, no reasonable people will hear that and not respond. Why is that only it is only Achebe that is talking 45 yrs after?,45 yrs is a long time, some people that were born that time have started having grand children. He Achiebe did not make a public declaration or statement about the war but quoted it in his book he is about to sell...can you imagine?

Why are the principal actors alive today not talking? Gowon & co.

Awolowo did not deny the seizure of the food, he said the federal govt ordered the food to be stopped because the foods were not getting to the masses, the soldiers hijacked the foods to themselves....what else do you want him to say or do? And he did clarified this before he died but for somebody to now come up and accused him again after so many yrs..haba...wt all fairness and sincerity let us all judge it.

Let us stop ds fights, it won't lead anywhere. If Yorubas were bad we won't have millions of Igbos in Lagos and thousands in Ibadan.

Yorubas too need to at least be less noisy, they did not start nor win the war.
PoliticsRe: An Intelectual Responce To Chinue Achebe by baqina(m): 9:55pm On Oct 09, 2012
Na wa ooo, this thing is still trending. Please let us forget this Biafra issue and move on with our lives..biko..enough is enough.

With all modesty and fairness, Achebe ought not to have made that statement, wat is wrong is wrong. He is an elder state man and of international repute for that matter, he (Achebe) can't make that statement and expect the people concerned not to talk despite the fact that Awolowo had cleared himself before he died. Why is Achebe saying all this after d death of Ojukwu and 45 yrs after d war?...haba.

ABEG...LET THE SLEEPING DOG LIES...#my2cents.
