You are very funny but also factual. Having an education and being educated are two different things. You can be a PhD holder and still be an Illiterate. Exposure plays a serious part in education as I have later found out. Was in UK some time ago for a specialized training. The Facilitator, an Oyinbo man was really fantastic and amazed everyone with his level of intelligence both on the job and off the job. We later found out he was a secondary school dropout and never went back to further his education. I really felt ashamed of myself that with all my degrees and masters I will one day have a secondary school drop out lecture and trully amaze me. While on the flip side I have seen several PhD holders disappoint me while taking seminars. One would wonder if phds are being sold in the market. Alot of them are also on Nairaland. |

49cents: In the cities you quoted there are metro lines that ensure mass transit but in Lagos and other cities that okada was banned there is no fumciional mass transit system
Ask those using the ikorodu get corridor how long they must wait to get on the bus? What stops the LASG from leasing that corridors to more than one company to boost competition and bus numbers? Why are they always buying buses by themselves when you have investment hungry business men and women looking for good returnson investment?
Of course Okadas and kekes had to fill in the vacuum these self centred APC and PDP characters that occupy leadership positions.
The timing is very very wrong especially in Lagos....Ambode's bus reform project was a systematic approach a better approach. Create more bus stops to prevent too much trekking, get comfortable mega buses tplying within the metropiaolise...the likes can complete the last mile.
What is sanwo olu's plan for replacing those eye sores we call danfo?
YOU DO NOT TAKE SOMETHING AWAY WITHOUT FIRST PROVIDING A BETTER REPLACEMENT.
Yes okadas and kekes have become a menace But you all these governors just want to seem powerful and make a false statement with the people paying the ultimate price Come what is it with this Lagos sef. Is it the only city in Nigeria? Did they tie all your placentas to Lagos? So you cannot make it in life unless you are in lagos. Abi? Please stop complaining.... kirkwood: For me they should grant special licenses to Max.ng, Gokada, and Opay...and set a minimum threshold of say, no more 5 accident cases per.week, beyond which their licenses will be suspended and they are made to pay heavy fines.
They should completely ban Keke. They do one chance too much with that.
They should register uniform-bearing local okadas to ply in inner street ways and alleyways, while they contrive creative ways to permanently nip them in the bud.
Stopping people from moving from point A to B is very unreasonable. It extremely reduces the number of productive hours they have.
And let's not forget that there are only about 3 million cars in a city of over 20 million people. Less than 1% of these 3 million car owners have 500,000 naira and above in their bank accounts. So from another angle, this is a bad political decision that may eventually lead to revolt and breakdown in public order.
Please, Sanwo Olu, don't make Lagos unnecessarily sit on a time bomb. These folks are definitely going to break into car windows in the coming nights and steal from the cars as traffic jam mounts.
My advice to car owners, watch out on where you go, and most importantly go home early or use public transport, and please stop hitch-hiking. Those who will do crime will still do it with or without okada or rickshaw. Crime will not increase stop creating unnecessary panic. |

bkool7: India did not banned them but made a concerted effort to regulate them. Bad road is the major causes of accident in Nigeria, followed by reckless driving. The policy ought to have been done gradually over time and in phases. While you're gradually banning them, you create alternatives like buses, ferries and metro lines that the govt will employ them into. And these will also serve as alternative means of transportation for the masses. This is a hastily thought out order that didn't take the pain the people will go through into consideration. And governance is about alleviating the suffering of the people not adding. What Nigerian politicians are good at is always adding to our pain with their hastily thought out policies It's like you are not aware of the transport alternatives available or you are just used to quick and dangerous transportation. Does Okada ride in Tokyo, Japan, Beijing, Berlin or New York?
Even, is Okada in Onitsha? Why would Okada be allowed in Ikeja the seat of government?
For those saying crime rate will increase, thats unless Lagos state government is clueless and stuppid. Sanwo Olu is smart though as far as I know and a very hardworking governor. You can deny this if you want... But the heavy volume of work going on Lagos roads speaks for itself.
Obiano the drunkard banned Okada in Anambra. Did heavens fall? Rochas even went to the extent of banning keke in the entire state. Did crime rate increase? Was okada not banned in Nnewi even with the rate of billionaire Okada importers from that axis? Did anybody die?
What most of you don't know is that Nigeriens, Chadians, Sudanese, Malians and Somalians took over South West without anybody knowing! It was gradual, crude and definite.... But they were almost succeeding before I believe Sanwo Olu stepped in. At a time, I was asking myself if there is no regulatory body managing these people in Lagos anymore.
They virtually took over Lagos with there stuppid, crazy and mannerless style of driving. They felt like Lords of the city and if you try to caution them, they will bow there heads in foolishness to thank you. But in there hearts, they were calling you Mumu after scratching your car.
What is Keke doing in Victoria Island? Who even brought this useless contraption to Nigeria? India that manufactures these nonsense made moves to regulate them.
Google Indian roads and see how organized keke driving is. But in Lagos, its madness! They will keep on creating multiple lanes that cause traffic, scratching peoples car with no mercy, hitting pedestrians with reckless abandon while using there Okada and useless keke to rob at night!
I ask again, is Lagos no longer a city? Why is there no Okada in Tokyo, Japan, Beijing, Berlin, Stuttgart, Dubai, Osaka, Chicago or New York?
Sanwo Olu if you are reading this, its not much about making these laws. Its about enacting and enforcing these laws! Enforce the ban and see sanity return to Lagos!

In all elections there are errors and shenanigans and most people try to “rig” to some extent. That’s why a premium is placed on whatever is declared as the result after all that. And that’s why the bar for removing an incumbent is placed high.
AFTER ALL THAT, the electoral authority declared Ihedioha the winner and Hope the 4th place finisher.

CanadaOrBust: It is not about losing track of documents. You miss the point.
1) All elections have errors and shenanigans. That why the bar for removing an incumbent is high. Otherwise anybody can come up with electoral errors or connive with INEC or cook up something. YOU DON’T REMOVE AN INCUMBENT BY PRESENTING CLEARLY FRAUDULENT DOCUMENTS NO MATTER HOW THE INCUMBENT WAS ELECTED! We know how many our senators and reps “won”. But u need solid, unassailable evidence to have them removed. Not some childish, incomplete documents full of ridiculous figures and smudges and alterations, with only APC and PDP results showing!
2) This type of case strikes at the very core of what type of country we’d end up becoming. YOU DON’T DECIDE SUCH A CASE BASED ON QUESTIONABLE DOCUMENTS, OR TECHNICALITIES, OR BY PRETENDING NOT TO SEE WHAT IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU! Compare to Bush vs. Gore - the SC not only thoroughly examined the documents, they ordered a manual recount of all the original ballots!
3) You won’t find any other judgment like this anywhere. Never in Nigerian judicial history (or any authentic democracy for that matter) has a SC ruled against ALL lower courts AND the election authority itself in order to immediately replace a sitting governor with a 4th-place finisher - all based on clearly questionable, uncollaborated, and unauthenticated documents supplied solely by the 4th-place finisher himself!! Stop ruminating on the 4th place. We all know he didn't come 4th in the election. That was the reason for the election dispute in the first place now. Immune1: This is Nigeria.... Never be in a rush to pick sides, always try to get a balanced view of things... Months ago i remember South Koreans romancing with Buhari....seems their seeds are bearing fruits already....
ON OCTOBER 31, 20187:50 AMIN NEWS, VIEWPOINT:
It was four weeks ago. A scanty crowd of workers carried out a tame protest in front of the Lagos office of the Department of Petroleum Resources, DPR. Their grouse was with Lagos Deep Offshore Logistics, LADOL. But they work for Samsung Heavy Industries, SHI. So, why would any group of workers leave where they collect their salaries to protest against another company without inscriptions of their names anywhere?
This is the intricate story of SHI and LADOL partnership. An alliance that held immense and historic possibilities, the LADOL/SHI partnership, at infancy, was chequered, perhaps, by acute infidelity to contract.
This inconstancy became a bad omen of things to come. The protesting workers fate is one of them. By the action of their protest however, they seemed, sadly to be treating the effect of a problem. But the cause actually is their headache. They therefore need to dissect the root cause of their problem to be sure they are not mere pawns in the hands of a cynical corporate player.
So, what was the grumble of SHI’s workers? What do they want? They say they are about to lose their jobs at SHI because of an alleged termination of a sublease agreement that SHI Mega Construction and Integration Free Zone, SHI MCI-FZE, had with LADOL. They therefore want the quick intervention of DPR as the regulator of the oil and gas sector in order to save their jobs.
They are of the opinion that LADOL’s purported action, that is the termination of the sublease contract, poses a threat to Samsung’s continued operation in the zone and by extension the source of their livelihood. Infact, Samuel Samidotun, the Assistant Manager, General Affairs department at SHI considers LADOL’s alleged act arbitrary and wants DPR’s strong intervention to resolve the lingering dispute.
However, there are close observers of the SHI/LADOL partnership since their parts intersected in 2010 and culminated in a partnership that won the bid for Total’s Egina Floating Production Supply Offloading, FPSO, with LADOL as the Local Content Partner, a partnership that SHI needed as the law required for that success to happen.
Two of these observers who preferred to be anonymous, did not share the sentiments of the protesting SHI’s workers. As one of them put it, the fate of SHI’s workers lies in SHI’s wry, double-edged approach to the partnership with LADOL.
“They were not transparent; every step they took seemed to show a mindset to short-change LADOL and possibly edge them out of the partnership. Did you not read of all the issues Samsung created when the whole thing just started and how it terminated the agreement unilaterally as if there are no laws in this country”.
He added; “You must have heard of the outcome of the Senate Public hearing on the FPSO. It has been revealed that some US$214 million paid by Total for the upgrade of the fabrication and integration facilities at LADOL was hidden by Samsung and still they made LADOL to cough out some good money for the facilities while losing a lot of their shares.
So, what I am trying to say is that if Samsung had started the whole business in good faith, this issue of termination of their sublease agreement would not have arisen. It would have been a matter of simple discussion and an agreement easily reached”, he concluded.
LADOL has however come out to debunk the clams of both SHI’s protesting workers and some publications it alleged were sponsored by SHI. According to the logistics company, its affiliate, Global Resources Management Limited.
GRML, terminated SHI MCI-FZE’s sublease on September 5, 2018 for three reasons, “First unremedied and material breaches of lease covenant. Second, denial of its landlord’s title by inter alia asking the Nigerian Ports Authority, NPA, the head lessor, to carve out a part of GRML’s leased land and grant a direct lease in favour of SHI MCI-FZE, so that SHI MCI-FZE could deal directly with all government regulators without needing to go through GRML or the Zone Management”.
LADOL added that although GRML’s sublease agreement provided for upward only rent review, SHI MCI-FZE, in antipation of NPA’s approval of a direct lease in its favour made several statements at various government agencies affirming its decision to unilaterally crash its rent from US$70 per square meter to US$5 per square meter (a reduction of more than 90%) on the expiry of its sublease in June 2018.
For GRML, SHI MCI-FZE’s renunciation of the upward only rent review was an anticipatory breach of the sublease contract. It was therefore left with no choice but to terminate the contract since it was, in any case, entitled to do so as a matter of law.
But the LADOL Zone management understood the pivotal importance of the Egina FPSO as a strategic national project with regard to Nigeria’s local content and technology transfer quest. And so when Samsung’s operating licence was about to expire the first time, it granted SHI MCI-FZE a two month licence extension on July 2, 2018, to enable Samsung complete its work on the Egina FPSO.
Job completed, the Egina FPSO sailed away on Sunday, August 26, 2018, to the Egina oil field in OML 130. And at midnight on September 2, 2018, the two month extension of SHI MCI-FZE’s operating licence expired. Since SHI MCI-FZE did not renew its operating licence and did not indeed meet the conditions for renewal such as payment of licence fee, provision of information and documents requested by the Zone Management in addition to failure to pay all outstanding amounts and fees, SHI MCI-FZE’s licence could not be renewed.
And so everything about LADOL/GRML and SHI MCI-FZE came effectively to an end. So, you ask, why were the SHI MCI-FZE workers protesting? What were they protesting for? And why are they blaming LADOL over their fate?
Another close observer of the LADOL/ SHI MCI-FZE face-off provided an answer. In his words, “those workers need to go back to their organization and seek audience with their employers. The truth is, they will soon find out that Samsung is just using them against their own country and sooner or later will dump them with the flimsy excuse that LADOL is the cause of their problem”. Continuing he added, “See, all over the world, Samsung is known for lack of transparency in its operations.
It is presently in major legal battles in South Korea, its own country for withholding crucial information on chemicals its many sick workers were exposed to at its computer chip and display factories that led to those sicknesses.
Those sicknesses include leukemia, lymphoma and other dangerous ailments. Now, add this to the declaration of May 1, 2018 as the International Day of Action Against Samsung by a coalition of human rights bodies in Europe, Asia and the United Stated to protest health, labour and human rights violations of Samsung’s factory workers everywhere by the corporate giant.
So, the summary of what I am saying is that Samsung should call his workers back to its office and sort out their issues. They should be open to their staff and tell them in truth that their business with LADOL is over”, he concluded.

CanadaOrBust: Politicians and lies! IMMEDIATELY Omoboriowo was declared winner by FEDECO there was pandemonium on the streets, the worst riots in Yoruba history. At least 40 people were killed, with two law makers set ablaze. That’s what he is comparing to Ihedioha where Imolites were rejoicing en masse. Also in that case SC UPHELD the rulings of all the lower courts, not overturn them on the technicality of refusing to even examine documents right in front of them!
Mr. Oshiomhole is also being dishonest. In those other cases the SC simply upheld what everybody already knew. Example, everyone knew APC held no primary in Zamfara. He knows fully well this case is quite different.
Never in Nigerian judicial history (or any authentic democracy for that matter) has the SC ruled against ALL lower courts AND the election authority itself in order to immediately replace a sitting governor with a 4th-place finisher - all based on clearly questionable, uncollaborated, and unauthenticated documents supplied solely by the 4th-place finisher himself!!
All elections have errors. That’s why you have to keep the bar for removing an incumbent high. Otherwise anyone can come up with electoral errors or connive with INEC or cook up something (as in this case), and no elected official would be safe. To replace an 8-month incumbent gov with a 4th-place finishing appellant needs to be just about impossible. It needs to be backed by documentary and other evidence, totally above board, beyond reproach, and with multiple layers of authentication. Not some childish incomplete documents like Uzodinma’s, full of 100+% voter turnouts, smudges and alterations, and with only two parties’ results showing! YOU DON’T DECIDE SUCH A CASE BASED ON SUCH DOCUMENTS, OR TECHNICALITIES OR BY NOT EXAMINING DOCUMENTS, OR BY PRETENDING NOT TO SEE WHAT IS RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU!
I’d only say the following to those supporting this horrible judgment:
Realize that what u r supporting is removal of your right to choose your leaders, no less. Which will inevitably lead to a one-party state. To be clear, here is the precedent u r supporting:
A person that comes 10th can easily be declared winner and immediately sworn in. All they’d have to do is present result sheets which the Supreme Court MUST accept no matter how outrageous and defective they may be, as long as no one can produce the originals! That’s what u r supporting!
The SC has a duty to make sure that such a momentous, unprecedented decision has solid, unassailable documentary basis?! They start doing that by thoroughly examining the documents in front of them! SC does not exist in a vacuum. This is also their country and they ought care they are setting a precedent that can gradually make the country a one-party state. Here they are, removing a gov and replacing him with a fourth-place finishing appellant based solely on a set of uncollaborated documents supplied solely by the appellant himself. Regardless of what anyone else submits or fails to submit, they have a DUTY to EXAMINE those documents to make sure they are up to par and that the figures therein make sense vis-a-vis number of registered and accredited voters! That is how it is done! And that is why you’ve never had a judgment like this before! Since you claim to be this bright, why were you not at the supreme Court defending Ihedioha. Why wait for the supreme court judgement before ranting like a rabid dog. |

mrsage: Let's get things clear. I'm not in love with okoada and Kekes. They also have their faults.
However the government approach is wrong.
First they should consider the social consequences of this so called "restriction".
These bikes and Kekes are a business, Micro Finance banks (who pay taxes to government and employ Lagosians ) have invested heavily in this mode of transportation. How do we expect them to recover?
If the government decides to ban, why can't they give the operators some time. 6-8 months notice is not a bad idea.
Then every party involved will have time to plan an exit strategy.
If you take away a mans means of livelihood how do you expect him to survive? The investors took a market risk every business goes through it it's not new. |

largehead: Niqqa shut the fuvk up. How many years before every region can boast of 8 hours power supply a day? What did your 16 years of pdp rule provide you? Or pdp did not have interest in changing your life? For your information I don't know which slum you are leaving in, but where I live I have had light continuously for the past 3 months 24 hours. Of course I use prepaid. I advise you to pay your outstanding bills first before complaining about power. That was what we did in my community. Again I've noticed that it's the people who don't pay power bills that complain the most |
