The police in Edo has arrested a 14-year-old student, Miracle Nwarime, for the alleged killing of another student Kelvin Akhidenor, 16, at Ekpoma, Esan West Local Government Area.

The police had also arrested one Miss Perpetual in connection with the incident which occurred on Monday. Nwarine was alleged to have stabbed the deceased five times on the head region with a broken bottle after a disagreement over “ a girlfriend”. It was learnt that the victim was rushed to the Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital (ISTH), Irrua, Edo where he eventually died.

It was further learnt that the suspect, the deceased and some others had left a popular drinking spot at Ekpoma moments before the incident. The Divisional Police Officer in Ekpoma, Mr. Amos Opadoja, confirmed the incident and said the case had been transferred the State Police Command in Benin City

Lindsay Lohan must report to the county jail by November 9th to serve 30-days behind bars.

Los Angeles Judge Stephanie Sautner made the ruling on Wednesday after determining that the Mean Girls star violated the terms of her probation stemming from her shoplifting conviction. Prior to the judge making her ruling, Lohan -- wearing a polka dot dress with her hair pulled back in court -- admitted in court that she did in fact violate the terms of her probation.

According to the prosecution, Lohan canceled 14 of her 19 scheduled psychotherapy appointments and three of the five she attended were cut short because of “other engagements she needed to attend to.” “Miss Lohan was in charge of making her own schedule at the Downtown Women’s Center,” the prosecutor said, and noted that of the 20 scheduled sessions she had at the Downtown Women’s Center, she canceled 12 of them.

A charity worker allegedly bit two members of a delayed plane’s cabin crew after a fight with her husband on a holiday, a court has heard.

Carol Close, 45, had to be restrained and handcuffed during a six-hour flight from Manchester to the Dominican Republic. The flight had a 30-hour waiting time at Manchester Airport which is said to have made Close irritable.

The pilot of the Thomson Airways flight to the Dominican Republic made an emergency landing in Bermuda where police arrested her as other passengers cheered in relief, reports say. The drama began approximately three hours after the takeoff when an inebriated Close began hitting her husband. Cabin crew moved him to another seat, but Close then reportedly stood up in her seat and began shouting.

During attempts to restrain her, a male flight attendant was bitten and hit in the chest. Close reportedly suffers from anxiety and depression, her lawyer Close’s lawyer told Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court. She has been handed out a suspended six month jail term and was ordered to pay $320 to the two crew.

Seven dogs starved of food and water for two weeks are suspected of eating their Indonesian owner after he returned to his hometown in Manado from a holiday, local media reported on Tuesday.

The National Population Commission (NPC) has said the country’s population has risen from the 140,431,790 it was five years ago when the last national headcount was taken, to 167,912,561 as at yesterday. This represents an annual population growth rate of 5.6 million people.

Chairman of NPC, Samu'ila Danko Makama, who made the disclosure at a valedictory press briefing of the board of the commission in Abuja, said of this figure, 82,098,001 are females, while males account for 85,814,560.

He also said given the agency’s new projection of the country’s population growth with an assessment of 3.2 per cent rate, “the same rate the NPC used in 1991 and 2006”, Nigeria’s population would hit 221,392,163 by July 1, 2020.

Makama said: “This means that Nigeria contributes 2.4 per cent of the seven billion people which the world population would hit on October 31, 2011.” Giving account of the money spent on the 2006 population census, he said, of the N37 billion which was expended on the exercise, 48 per cent was provided by the European Union (EU), while the remainder of 52 per cent was provided by the Federal Government.

Speaking on the implication of the population growth of Nigeria, Makama said it was imperative that the necessary framework be put in place by the NPC and other stakeholders to accommodate the rate. He particularly cautioned that the population explosion could lead to a higher rate of unemployment and poverty among Nigerians.

“It is necessary that we start to space our children. Yes, children are provided by God, but we also have to plan for them,” he said. Lauding the 2006 census exercise, Makama said many African countries were currently utilising the experience of some of the NPC officials to conduct their demographic survey.

“The 2006 census was the biggest statistical exercise in Africa, and the eight biggest in the world. It was acclaimed by local and foreign bodies as credible and one of the best the country ever had. But because some people always choose to have predetermined minds on population issues, it was criticised by some Nigerians,” he added.

He noted that one of the major challenges faced by the commission was the issue of funding, while conceding that there had been improvement in recent years. The commission now has 2,733 registration centres across the country with at least three in every local government area, he said.

An Ikeja High Court has ordered National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, to produce embattled comedian Mr. Babatunde Omidina, commonly called Baba Suwe in court by the next adjourned date, Monday.

Trial judge, Justice Yetunde Idowu, in her ruling on an application by Omidina, made the order. Counsel to Suwe, Bamidele Aturu, urged the court to direct the anti-drug agency to release Suwe from their custody, or alternatively, produce him in court at the next adjourned date.

NDLEA did not object to the application, which was granted by the court. It will be recalled that a Federal High Court sitting in Lagos, had granted NDLEA, 15 more days to keep Suwe base on a new discovery, it claimed it made, as there was more drug in Suwe’s body.

NDLEA arrested Suwe while he was about boarding a plane to Paris at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, when a scanning device indicated that he had ingested substances suspected to be hard drugs and had since then been in custody.

Tara Reid has admitted that her “marriage” to Bulgarian financier Zack Kehayov was a sham.

A mother who accidentally ran over and killed her husband after an argument has been spared jail.

Suzanne Knox's two young daughters were in the car with her when she drove into her husband Anthony as she tried to pull up beside the pavement where he was sitting. He had gone to the local pub after the two had an argument and she had driven to find him. Mr Knox, a lab technician for an offshore company, died in hospital from internal injuries three hours after the accident close to the Norman Warrior pub in Lowestoft, Suffolk.
