AutosRe: Help A Nairalander Recover His Stolen Toyota Corolla by Baylam(m): 6:10pm On Apr 08, 2016
frackky:
Sorry for your loss guy. Same exact experience, November 9th 2013, they were waiting for me at my gate to drive in and jejely walked into the compound. 2011 Toyota camry spider (fullest option to d teeth XLE with only 23k miles on it (original mileage), factory fitted every every, rev cam, push to start 3.5V6 etc etc. N3.9m) fitted with detailed tracker (voice record n all that)

collected d machine at gun point (3 guys). Carried me a few kilometers away from home, took everything, fones and all and dropped me off without a scratch (Thanking God for that till dat). Ran home to track d vehicle on my system and listen in to their conversation. by the time i got home (in about 20 mins) and logged in, tracker had been disabled completely. Vehicle has not been found till date

Hard to say but the car is as good as gone. Do d needful but don't dwell on finding it. if it comes, good, otherwise life goes on. Thank God you are alive.

The primary suspects are the guys that sold the car to me OR the company/guys that installed the tracker.

Lessons Learnt:
a. These guys are smart. They already have planned what to do before they stole your car (if they are dumb, then you may have chances of finding it). The even change VIN numbers. The market for your car or its parts was already available before they struck

b. These criminals install trackers too. Every Tom, Dick and Harry does it. I even can do it. That's why they were able to even take out mine completely in less than 20 minutes.

c. Comprehensive Insurance with a reputable insurance firm is the best bet you have because you will recover a reasonable amount of money spent on the car (my mistake: i was to make payment for comprehensive insurance on a Monday, incident happened on saturday)

d. When purchasing, NEVER use any address that can be linked directly to you on the receipts n all. Use your grandfather's village address, they should go and look for the car there.

e. Carry out your vehicle registration BY YOURSELF, the dealer or whoever always has 'someone' who does it that will ask for your licence or original address because they want to register it with roadsafety and then you think this 'someone' is not affiliated with the seller (lie). It is very stress-less doing it yourself, takes less than 20/30 minutes.

Lastly, criminals work with information. If they have none, it makes their actions harder. So, the lesser information and update on progress of your investigation you share with anyone, the better because trust me the 'insider' is close to you and his job is to know what your plan and line of action is to enable them effectively outwit your investigations.

Also, be careful of the police, so you don't go spending money unnecessarily for actions/activities that will not yield any results (almost happened to me too) because someone started using my blackberry phone 3 days after the incident and i kept 'empowering' police to pick the person up which was supposed to lead us to the criminals and till date, nothing.

I wish you good luck and stay prayerful too.

Car TalkRe: Forget Petrol, Tesla Model 3 Electric Car Has Launched At N6.9m Only by Baylam(m): 4:46am On Apr 06, 2016
shocker007:
First I must say you almost sound like Ben Bruce with the way you highlighted those Common Sense posts.

But I will give you answers and some things you might be missing.
Lets get something clear that this car isn't for the poor or some average tokunbo/Innoson car buyer.

That been said, i want you to know not all feature of the car is expected to be used when its in Nigeria.
But Parking sensor, Auto stop to avoid car crash, 0-65mph in <5secs, Speed monitoring, Auto-shade in Sunny hour, Front and Back Motor control and many more features will work flawlessly in Nigeria without the need of a map or navigation system.
Aside the auto pilot and navigation system that can't fully work in Nigeria (at the moment), what else can't work?

Also know that when it comes to solar system acquisition to power the PowerWall for car charging, anyone rich enough to acquire the 6.9m car should be able to spare some thousands of naira on panels.
The PowerWall is 6.4kw.
1000w = 1kw, Meaning 6.4kw is 6400w
230w panel costs <30k in Lagos

6400w/230w =28, Meaning 28 panel will dish out 6.4kw in an hour. (Though not feasible cos of short circuits)
Let's say we add 10 extra panels to make it 38 cos of short circuits.
38 of 230w panels x 30k each = 1.1m

Solar panels are getting cheaper and more higher power panels are been developed.
Who knows, before late 2017, we would have higher power panels that are less bulky.
And about 110-220voltage, if you are a Tesla fan, you should know its given the rating of 110-220v cos it doesn't ship to US alone. A model was still delivered to China last week. So the voltage thing is out of it.

For Engineers, Expect sharp Nigerians to always tap into any high pay emerging market.
I don't expect much of a fix though. Except you expecting the motors to have issue like normal fuel cars. Sir this is an electric car that uses some high grade motors. Our home fan don't get to have issue for years.
How many Model S takes their car for check up often as at now.

BTW, I Would have loved to ask why on the below statement , but will leave that for another day.

But sir I think you need to try the front seat grin
No offence though, Once again I won't be asking you why. lipsrsealed

MrMcJay:
During the 1995 Coup plot of Abacha's regime, Obasanjo was abroad when he got info that he was to be arrested in connection with the coup and he spurned it saying 'they hadn't given birth to the person that would arrest him.' Immediately he landed at the airport in Lagos, he was arrested. This same Obasanjo burst into tears when Col Ibrahim Yakassai brought an injection needle for OBJ, this same OBJ making mouth burst into tears.

The above is for all those that think Buhari can not arrest Jonathan. There is nothing GEJ is that OBJ wasn't as at the time he was arrested.

Bolded got me cracking oooo

obiremy:
As sent by a Trezzy Blog reader......

A suppose mad man created an unusual scene at the Lagos State secretariat opposite elephant bus stop when he demanded to see the governor of Lagos"No he is mad "some said ,Yes he is a kidnapper" others argued.. Few said he must be one of the criminals that torment innocent citizens once the night falls.

I want to see Ambode " he demanded.. What for?" one of the security guys asked as he rained koboko on his head. He was told to unwrap whatever that he has bagged.. Books and other rubbish were inside the bag but nothing incriminating was found.. Some began to sympathise with him.. May be he's mad afterall? A woman at the scene retorted.. The argument ranges on as the man was whisked away in to the compound of the secretariat..

One man later said.. There a 4 levels of madness.. As far as psychiatry is concerned He then pointed to another man, Who knows.. even you.. You may be a mad man.. Me..? You too you are mad.. In fact.. You dey craze.. Hmmmm.. I sighed Lagos and it's wahala..

Car TalkRe: A Visit To GAZZUZZ Workshop (With Pics) by Baylam(m): 2:49pm On Apr 04, 2016
Man of substance

Lexit:
The name Gazzuzz should not be strange to those who come to Cartalk or Auto Section on Nairaland frequently. Most issues raised in any of these sections are attended to by this guy Gazzuzz. My first good impression of him was sometimes in 2014 when he offered to do car free painting for a lucky Nairalander, which he eventually did.

After that time, he also did free vehicle scanning. And recently I contacted me on this forum for a free scanning which he responded affirmatively.

On Saturday, I was at his workshop on 3, Awe street, off Haruna Bus Stop, via Ogba. I called earlier before leaving home to remind him of his promise for free scanning.

On getting there, he was not around, but the guy I met there told me to wait. I want to believe the spirit of Gazzuzz also works with this guy as he he took his time to attend to me even before his boss arrived.

I was so impressed by the workshop environment that I wonder if this is really a mechanic workshop. All the guys I met there dressed neatly and speak good English. They are well mannered and courteous. (How I wish other mechanic workshops would be like this and that our mechanics will dress neatly like them too).

Moments later, a guy drove in on a very clean power bike. Neatly dressed too. I was flabbergasted when I was told he is Gazzuzz. He also speaks good English. Till now I want to believe this guy is well read; though I couldn't be asking him questions about his education.

This man took his time to attend to every of my complaint. He did another scanning to be sure of what his guy did before his arrival. He helped clear all necessary codes and even the warning lights. The lights he could not clear, he went the proverbial extra mile by making calls. He even drove the car around to check for any other fault on the car and he offered his suggestions for faults observed.

At the end of the whole event, I was so thrilled that I offered to give him at least some cash for lunch, even though I know I came for free scanning. Gazzuzz surprised me again by turning down my money. He insisted he wont collect any thing from me because according to him, it was meant to be free as he promised me on Nairaland.

Seriously, Nairaland is blessed to have Gazzuzz and I am sure those who frequent his active sections will agree with me that this guy is wonderful.

I have found in him a mechanic that one can rely on!

FamilyRe: Do You Support Parents Paying Their Children To Do House Chores? by Baylam(m): 10:21am On Apr 04, 2016
The bolded explain it all.. God bless you sir

Siena:
As kids, myself and my sisters WERE rewarded with treats for doing jobs round the house, especially for chores which were more meant for grown-ups. These rewards were sometimes candy or cookies, then as we got older, we were rewarded with real money.

Prior to this, we still performed our chores without fail, we were brought up to do so. Receiving token payments wasn't an incentive, it was preparing for financial responsibility.

My mom taught us at an early age how to save money, we kept a record of how much we'd earned, and our mom banked the money as we earned it. We were always able to ask for "drawings", and always knew how much we had at any given time. In our mid-teens, we had our own bank accounts, and knew the value of money, and how to handle it.

Myself and my wife have started the same practice with our eldest child.

It may NOT work for others, but it certainly worked for myself and my siblings. And it's working for our kids now.
