Hello Guys, I have the intention of applying for PhD in Petroleum Engineering in the US. My question is this: it is possible to secure admission between now and February next year (2017).Do I need to write the various exams like TOEFEL and GRE despite having an MSc from the UK? Thanks

For those among us who are yet to apply, whatever you doing don't tell them you applied for US visa n got denied. I was told today that they will carry out a standard check on my application before issuing me a Visa, so try n learn from my mistake mates. Otherwise my visa will have been out by now

Ok I will, Thanks Bro. You are the best
bellong:

Goodluck in your application. Read the thread when you are ready and let me know where you need clarity.

Read Victoria and Tasmania states requirements for nomination too.
Travel / Re: General Australian student Visa Enquiries Part 2 by BB2016: 7:26am On Sep 05, 2016
I have applied for S 500 for my PhD already in Petroleum Engineering but I will be happy to receive guidance from you. Happy to know you are also a geologist grin cheesy cool
bellong:

I think Victoria and Tasmania still sponsor Geologist. Read the PR thread, do personal research and apply for PR.

Once you get PR, if you are interested in PhD, you don't have to pay for tuition. I can give you guidance when you are ready, I read geology too.

Hw far with your application? I am sure yours is up to a month by now. Fingers crossed, hoping this will be the week for us all
Favorsky:
Wow! tomorrow? I guess you will be told to defer the Admission or request for an extension from the school. I applied before you and patiently waiting.

@West African Thanks for your response. I am looking at opportunities to better ones life during and after studies, Citizenship and PR opportunities etc. In the end its all about improving the quality of life
WestAfrican:

I mate your question is a little bit ambiguous. If you narrow it down or make it consice, you may get the answer you are after. In the meanwhile dive into the urls for more reading:

Having said that, irrespective of what you are after USA exceeds AUS.

If the essence of PhD is to get a job, it is not necessarily important in Australia except you plan to work in research centres or university.
Depending on your area of study, I will advice you do your PhD in USA as they have lots of funding for PhD compare to Australia that funding is limited.

My area of study is petroleum engineering (carbon capture and storage specifically), I am not looking for funding as I have that covered already. I am looking at job prospect and possibility of securing a PR, citizenship, and post Doc opportunities,

Thanks for your response

Good Morning All, I have a quick question please. Do we have any1 who applied in August and got a grant in the House? I applied on the 5TH of August, every time I contact them they keep telling me its within the standard time and so I should be patient. This is despite pointing out that my start date is tomorrow. Anyone with similar experience should please advise me on what to do next, gracias

Hello . I know this is a belated congrats but congrats anyway. I applied to the same school but currently waiting for an offer. Would you be kind enough to shed some light on some questions I have below:

- Can I use my uncle as a sponsor. we have the same surname
- Was there any interview done by the school or the immigration office either by appearance or telephone
- Also what do you think is the most important part of the visa process I shouldn't make mistake on.

Thank you.

My visa grant journey

Submitted application at TLS abuja 15/06/16

Lodged in Pretoria 22/06/16

Monday 20/07/16 Day of orientation got mail from dibp that I'm AL3 and would take 3months when actually I was svp. Sameday got in touch with school and was told dibp has final say and that they can only give me an extension letter until 8 August if by then I don't get Grant I'll defer to Feb intake

22/07/16 sent extension letter and no reply, so I assumed I'll defer

25/07/16. My very own God sent Angel frm nairaland Toche1 called in and ask me to call dibp and insist it's svp and stop mailing, that after the call I'll call to inform him of my grant

26/07/16 called Pretoria and was redirected to supervisor for student applications, was told it was a mix up and that my extension letter is received and noted and that my application will be looked into that week..... Week ended no news #sad

02/08/16 Grant showed up 10:36 am

My Nairaland family it was only God that did what no man could have done!!!

Appreciation to @bellong @obidike @cottyekundayo @Dontee5star @Sen2paco @Jasmine14 @Engrjcj @Toche1

Above all God Almighty I thank you greatly!!!@

Adelaide coming tru>>>>>>>>
