The billionaire ex-husband of Uganda’s show-biz stunner, Zari Hassan, has been buried with champagne and a healthy quantity of money thrown into his grave by family and friends.
The man, Ivan Semwanga, a Ugandan born-South Africa-based socialite, was declared dead on May 25, 2017 after spending 11 days in Steve Biko Academic Hospital in Pretoria, South Africa, where he had been admitted and put on life support machines.


Born on December 12, 1977 in Nakaliro, Kayunga District of Uganda, Semwanga died aged 39.

He was one of the members of the self-styled Rich Gang group well known in both South Africa and Uganda.
According to reports, the group is based on both humanitarian and philanthropy principles which target the less privileged youths, especially Ugandans living in South Africa.


Ivan Semwanga’s investments were said to be largely based in South Africa, comprising of tens of education institutions.
He once tweeted about the secret to his silky skin, saying, “Since am Rich Gang CEO, I only use natural Artesian water to shower with.

According to his ex-wife, Zari Hassan, Semwanga was fond of saying, “Life is too short, Zee, let me live it to the fullest.” They had three sons together.
In the video, the deceased Ugandan tycoon’s casket was seen being lowered into the earth, surrounded by men in black who poured expensive wines and tons of money on it.

A Ugandan online medium claims that the late tycoon was buried with 100 UGX (Ugandan Shilling) which is an equivalent of $27,763.
It added that the Rich Gang have hired four policemen for a period of four months to protect the grave from tomb raiders who may want to break in to steal the money and alcohol.
Some of the people at the expensive burial ceremony shed copious tears.

Two final year students of the Makerere University in Uganda have landed in serious trouble after wearing very revealing clothes to a university function which the school authority considered “indecent”.

The pre-tattered dresses have been making the rounds on social media since the weekend when the Finalist Education Dinner took place.

The two have been summoned to appear before the disciplinary committee.

In a letter dated Tuesday May 30, 2017, the Makerere University authorities had expressed dismay over the students’ conduct.

The letter, as published by Ugandan Mirror online reads, “If it is true that that person was you, your action, as a student of this university, would have contravened University Regulation 8 (2)(a) which states that, ‘Every student shall respect him/herself and behave in a manner that will not bring his/her name and that of the university into disrepute;’ and Regulation 8 (2) (d) which states that, ‘Every student shall dress in a neat and decent manner.”


The letter was addressed to one of the students who are said to have appeared in the pictures, Ms Rebecca Naddamba.

The Dean School of Education, Dr. Betty Ezati, reportedly confirmed the letters to have been written to the students, summoning them to the disciplinary committee.

She declined to disclose what a typical disciplinary action is.

The students have until Friday, June 2, 2017 to submit their replies to the university.

Reports emerging from Ghana say claim that a military team has taken over Denkyira-Obuasi town and arrested over 200 people in connection with the murder of military officer, Capt. Mahama.



According to local media, all roads leading to the community and all bushes have been blocked by soldiers. Women and children are taking shelter in churches.


Meanwhile, President Nna Addo Akuffor Addo has released a statement condemning the murder.

"My condolences to the family of Capt Mahama on their tragic loss," the statement reads. "I assure them that the perpetrators if this heinous crime will be arrested and dealt with in accordance with the laws of our country. No one involved in his murder will go free."

Capt Maxwell Mahama was a military officer with the 5th Infantry Battalion (5BN) at Burma Camp in Accra who was on detachment duties at Denkyira Boase in the Upper Denkyira West District of the Central region.

Captain Mahama, a commander of a military detachment in the area, was jogging without his military uniform very early Monday morning along the main road, when he stopped to ask for direction from some women. However, upon sighting his pistol, they raised an alarm that he was an armed robber.
They made this erroneous assumption due to the incessant armed robbery attacks in the community.

Several pleas by a security officer that he was not a criminal fell on deaf ears, as the angry residents beat him to death.

Interpol’s Singapore office, which said methamphetamine remains the region’s most trafficked substance, highlighted the rising trend in a report on an international anti-drug operation in May.

Traffickers are increasingly swallowing condoms filled with liquid cocaine to cheat traditional detection methods, Interpol said Tuesday as it pointed to West African and Asian gangs driving the Asia-Pacific narcotics trade.


Interpol’s Singapore office, which said methamphetamine remains the region’s most trafficked substance, highlighted the rising trend in a report on an international anti-drug operation in May.

The campaign, called Operation Lionfish - ASEAN, involved more than 2,000 police and customs officials in 14 countries, said a statement from the Interpol Global Complex in Singapore which coordinated it.

It focused on drug trafficking through airports while a second phase will target land and sea borders.

The operation “revealed a network of West African and Asian organised crime groups behind trafficking in methamphetamine -- one of the most smuggled drugs in the region,” the statement said.

Of 59 seizures during the two-week period, nearly a quarter of the drugs confiscated was methamphetamine, of which nearly 80 percent was in crystalline form known as “ice”.

Cocaine, cannabis, heroin and amphetamine stimulants were also among the drugs seized, it said, adding that smugglers were becoming more innovative.

Authorities in the United Arab Emirates have identified a rising trend of liquid cocaine being trafficked, Interpol said.

“Smugglers would swallow condoms packed with liquid cocaine,” it said, adding that this type of concealment is harder to detect using traditional methods like X-rays.

Interpol said it identified a “cocaine trafficking route via Ethiopia to destinations in the Middle East, Asia and Pacific”.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, on Sunday, appealed to Nigerian youths to desist from wishing their past leaders, including him dead, as the youths still need their mentoring and advise‎. Whenever I go, they always ask me what is my fear about Nigeria and Africa. And I said my greatest fear is youth anger, frustrations and youth explosion which have no bound.

We have the Boko haram in the north, the MASSOB and IPOB in the South East, the militants in the Niger Delta and the Oodua Peoples Congress in the Southwest. All of these are expression of anger and frustrations. We have what it takes to be great as a nation and we can’t transform this country without the youths. My greatest hope in this country is also the youth. You the youth should work to help yourselves. You must be ready to pay the price for what you stand for,”he said.

Three persons have reportedly died from suspected generator fumes around Sapele road in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area of Edo State, The Punch reports.

It was gathered that the bodies of the deceased, including a male and two females, were discovered at about 3am on Sunday when a brother to the late man raised the alarm.

It was learnt that the door to the apartment was locked prior to the discovery of the bodies.



Upon entry, the generator was said to have been sighted in the kitchen, a development which raised the suspicion that it could have been left running throughout the night.



It was learnt that one of the women who had visited the late man was found lying lifeless outside the flat located on Agharese Adu Street.



‎The n*ked body of the man was said to have been found lying on the ground, while the other woman’s body was found on a bed.



The Police Public Relations Officer, Moses Nkombe, confirmed the incident on Sunday.



‎Nkombe said an investigation would be conducted to ascertain the cause of death.



He said, “Until (the) doctor’s report comes out, it is likely they died of generator fume. One of the occupants of the room died.


“The flat is occupied by three boys. The two senior ones went to a party and when they returned, they saw that the door was locked;‎ they then raised the alarm.”

‎It was, however, learnt that the remains of the deceased have been deposited in a mortuary.
