Health › What You Need To Know About Carrots by bbeckky(op): 3:46am On Apr 08, 2015
Carrot is probably one of your favorite vegetables. Because we know that carrots are nutritious and good for our health, most of the time we serve this root vegetable to our kids, and we cut it into different sizes and shapes so it would look more appealing and edible. But why is a carrot so popular and why most people regard it as an ultimate health food?

Carrots are available on your local grocery stores all year round, but they are usually the freshest in the summer and fall. Carrots were first cultivated in Afghanistan. However, the original carrots were bitter-tasting, small, and purple or yellow in color. In the 16th and 17th, the Dutch grower developed and stabilized the root vegetable which makes them appear bright orange and long and sweet tasting.

The nutrition that you can get from carrots

Carrots are loaded with essential vitamins and minerals that are needed by the body. Nutrients in carrots include. 407.6% vitamin A, 20.1% vitamin K, 13.6% fiber, 12% vitamin C, 11.1% potassium, 0.5% manganese, 8.5% vitamin B6, 8.1% molybdenum, 6% vitamin B3, 5.7% folate, 5.3% vitamin B1, 4.2% phosphorus, 4.1% vitamin B2, 4% and 4% vitamin E.

In addition to this, carrots also contain beta-carotene a strong antioxidant that gives the carrot a bright orange appearance. When beta carotene is absorbed and digested in the stomach, it turned into vitamin A, which can help promote good eyesight. Other varieties of color such as the yellow, red, and purple carrots are packed with anthocyanin and lycopene, which are antioxidants that can give you a healthy heart and weight.

Health benefits of Carrots

The nutrient the root vegetable contains explains why it is considered a health food. But what are the health benefits that you can get by including carrots on your diet? According to research, the dietary carotenoids and antioxidant in carrots which prevent the free radicals from damaging cells may help reduce your risk of cardiovascular diseases and different types of cancer such as lung cancer, colorectal cancer, leukemia and prostate cancer.

Moreover, Duke Ophthalmologist Jill Koury, stated that consuming carrots may help fill the nutritional needs for vitamin A, hence it can prevent vitamin A deficiency, which can cause fast deterioration of the eye’s photoreceptors damaging the normal vision. Furthermore, you carrots may also help control the blood sugar, delay the detrimental effects of aging and boost the immune system.

Ways to eat carrots

Carrots are quite versatile, and it can be eaten in many ways. Most of the time, it is eaten, steamed, boiled, roasted or raw. When storing carrots, it’s best to keep it in the refrigerator on a sealed plastic bag. Make sure that you need to remove the greens attached to the carrot to prevent it from rotting fast. For health enthusiast and dieters, carrots are best added on salads, coleslaw, or bake goods like muffin and cakes.

Crime › Wonder Bank’ Owners Disappear With Customers Deposits by bbeckky(op): 3:28am On Apr 08, 2015
Scores of people in Kwara State who claimed to be customers on Tuesday besieged the premises of Ayonitemi Cooperative Business Finance, alleging that they had been defrauded by the firm.

The wonder bank is located at Oniyangi, near the Emir Road, Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

Many of the customers, who gathered on the premises of the bank as early as 7am, said they had lost substantial amount of money which they deposited in the finance house.

Our correspondent observed that some of the customers were weeping.

They stated that they had been promised mouth watering financial offers if they made deposit in the bank.

Many of them spoke on the condition of anonymity to avoid being made subject of mockery by people who might know them.

One of them said she received information to come on Tuesday to collect her money which she had been depositing in the bank for many months.

She claimed to have invested about N1m in the bank without her husband’s knowledge and consent.

“I have been depositing money in the bank for some months. They promised that they will not disappoint us.

“They told us that they were from Kwara State and they had no other place to run to.

“So, I was convinced that this bank was real.

“I did not even inform my husband of my transactions with them.

“Unfortunately, they disappointed us and ran away.”

Some other victims claimed to have lost money ranging from N100,000 to N450,000.

Some of them later descended on the office of the firm and carted away office furniture and items, including electronics.

Efforts to get the reaction of the officials of the bank proved abortive.

The Kwara State Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Ajayi Okesanmi, said the command had not been briefed that about the alleged fraud by the bank.

dearpreye:
History always repeat itself. And this is because humans never learn from history. They are skilled in repeating the same mistakes that were made by those that lived before them. Its simply human nature.

The elections have come and gone. and there has been some peace in both the polity and the nation. And then in a very dramatic fashion, a king who should have known better has made an infamous speech capable of breeching that peace and throwing the entire nation into a state of chaos.

It can be manageable and even forgivable when politicians make obnoxious and inflammatory statements. But when such statements are made by kings, who should be totally apolitical, then we are headed for some dangerous end. I didn't want to believe it myself till I watched the video, and it dawned on me an entire race was being threatened with violence on account of their political beliefs and inclinations. That was unacceptable. The king is a fool, and an idiot; unfit to rule the minutest of people; unfit to govern even the most uncivilized people on the surface of the earth. Nigeria is republic; not some monarchy!

One cannot totally absolve the entire APC from this latest version of ethnic extremism and madness displayed by a primitive, rabid king. He deserves all the insults that come his way. His voice lent support to the course of the APC- a Nigerian version of the Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood. The government of the APC in Lagos has shown so much disdain and hatred for the Igbos. The rabid King was aware how the APC-led government in Fashola deported some Igbos from Lagos, hence he acted to further show the deep hatred his party has for the Igbos.

Where is Lie Mohammed, APC Chairman, Buhari, and all their naked dancers on social media, including NL? No sense of country; its just about party. Very shameful.

The Igbos should go ahead and massively vote for Jimi Agbaje in Lagos, and lets watch what the lunatic, local king will do.
I'm not supporting whatever the Oba has said but then u need to consider he is elderly. How wud u feel if he was ur dad and u read som1 write these insulting words u did here about him? There are ways u can express ur opinion without the insults.

Politics › I Didn’t Sack Ambode, Says Fashola by bbeckky(op): 5:13am On Apr 06, 2015
Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babatunde Fashola, has said he
did not sack the All Progressives Congress governorship
candidate, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode, while the latter was the
Accountant-General of the state.
The Peoples Democratic Party had said Ambode was
sacked by Fashola for financial impropriety but Fashola
denied the allegation, saying it was part of the desperate
attempts by the PDP to win Saturday’s governorship
election.
Fashola said this in a statement by his Special Adviser on
Media, Mr. Hakeem Bello, on Saturday.
The statement read, “Governor Fashola has repudiated the
insinuation that the APC governorship candidate was
dismissed from the state’s civil service, describing it as
one of the many lies of the PDP aimed at deceiving voters
into voting for them.
“He explained that Mr. Ambode retired voluntarily from the
public service after 27 years of meritorious service to the
state, adding that he (governor) wrote him a letter of
commendation.”
Fashola urged the people of Lagos not to vote for the PDP
on Saturday as the PDP-led Federal Government had done
nothing to merit their votes.
He said the Federal Government still owed Lagos about
N51bn.
The statement added, “The governor noted that the PDP had
done nothing in the last 16 years but lie to Nigerians about
practically everything, including the state of the economy
and the security situation as well as other sensitive issues
that affect the lives of the people.
“Urging the people not to be deceived by such lies,
Governor Fashola pointed out that in the last 16 years, the
PDP-controlled Federal Government had ignored the state
in federal appointments and not only failed to maintain its
numerous infrastructure in the state but refused to pay back
to the state the money it (Lagos) has spent in maintaining
federal assets in the state including roads and bridges,
amounting to N51bn.”
The governor said the PDP governorship candidate, Mr.
Jimi Agbaje, was misleading civil servants on the issue of
leave allowance and minimum wage.
The statement recalled that the issue of minimum wage was
settled on February 7, 2011, when the state government
signed an agreement with the 14 approved labour unions in
the state civil service to pay N18, 780 to the lowest paid of
its workers.
The agreement, brokered by the then Commissioner for
Establishment and Training, Mr. Jide Sanwoolu, according
to the statement , increased the minimum wage of the
lowest paid worker in the employment of the government by
69.6 percent which is a 7.6 percent increase over the
Federal Government approved National Minimum Wage.
Fashola said his administration was not only the first to
implement the minimum wage structure but also added to
the N18,000 minimum wage across board, a gesture for
which the public servants commended the administration.

op, dont refund her and give her the bashing of her life. Your initial agreement was for you to deliver it to surulere, lagos.

If she had pesuaded the person you're to deliver it to at surulere to wait for you and take it along. That wouldnt have happened.

So, she's got no point.

It wasnt your fault. Go back to your facebook page now and give her the bashing of her life based on that fact.
Yea u r right, but putting in2 consideration d length d lady in question might go 2 damage his reputation dn it is better to refund her nd let peace reign.
