Glad you've made some headway, and we've at least pin pointed the cause of your Golf IV's issues.

Yes, filling the combined brake and clutch hydraulic fluid reservoir will gradually get drawn through the clutch slave cylinder, restoring clutch operation, and of course, allowing gears to be engaged with the engine running.

However, your mechanic needs to bleed the clutch AND the brakes. It's not sufficient just to let gravity push the fluid round. If the reservoir has run low, allowing air to get drawn into the brake and clutch circuits, the air will NOT self-purge. Bleeding is required.

I'm also concerned with the fluid level dropping. How low was it? Because a leak in the clutch master or slave cylinder is still a possibility. Both systems are sealed, the level will only drop marginally to compensate for brake pad wear. In most cases, the hygroscopic nature of hydraulic fluid (the tendency of the fluid to absorb moisture from the atmosphere) will actually cause the level to rise, or at least remain stable.

You mechanic needs to check for fluid leaks.

Sorry, I have never owned a Passat... perhaps you were referring to someone else.
But if you need someone to critically diagnose and repair your Passat, I can recommend a mechanic/auto electrician to you, whom I have used. His name is Akin - 08065743587, 07084825393.
I referred him to my pastor who drives a Mercedes Benz and he diagnosed and repaired the car. My pastor gave a good report about him.
If your car is a Passat, which is a German brand like the Mercedes Benz, Akin should be able to handle it.

Exactly...abuse is the bane of VW.

I remember using those itire guys..omoh..they spoilt my car tire..till i discovered one guy that works with stallion motors...my life changed for the better...these days, i rather spend thousands in stallion fixing it with professionals than saving money patronizing all these roadside quacks.

That car is grossly under-rated...its a beast and monster mixed in one.

My oil leaked out onto the road while I was driving because a seal broke where that timing chain is. So i towed the car there and asked them to fix the seal. After they fixed it, i came back days later to find the car wasn't starting ...or wasn't starting well. It kept stopping me on the road. It was a big issue because no one told me about timing, tey kept giving all sorts of excuses until starting up the car became a gamble.
It took a while sha, but I got reputable Passat mechanics at Gbagada who fixed both the oil pressure light and timing for me at the same time. They showed me that the Timing rail had broken (one red plastic under the chain that guides the chain. It looks like the white plastic your handle of your WC hooks into) Car became good as new, but all the trouble it took and the money i spent really pissed me off, so I sold it immediately. Lovely, excellent car, but I won't try it again.

Let me advise you based on my setup which consists of a 12v 1.2kva inverter, 120ah lifepo4 battery with 120a BMS, 600w panels connected to a 60a pwm CC. It powers my electronics which are a 43" led tv, a LG home theater system, a DC ceiling fan, charges laptops and phones with about 4 10w AC bulbs. I put on my fridge occasionally during periods of good sunlight.

I bought those batteries as used for #5K each at the time, not knowing there importance, it is being sold around 45K if available
inverter for about #17K (ripped by Post Office EMS and paid Custom duty of #14K) and Panels 52K for the two pieces on Jumia

I had the batteries for along time before a nairalander Dishtech posted about the batteries sometime in 2019 that was when I bought the inverter on aliexpress.
