Saraki ..Advices Senate President not to Interfere with Police Investigation into Assassinations. **Transferring Gang of Hired Assassins to Force HQ for further investigation in accordance with Police Procedure. The Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris Wednesday night reacted to the allegation by Senate President, Bukola Saraki that he (Idris) is plotting to frame him in the criminal assassination of some people in Kwara State saying that the it is an attempt at obstructing justice. Saraki and Idris The IGP also urged the Senate President not to interfere with Police investigation adding that all those involved no matter their status would be brought to book. In a statement signed by the Force Public Relation Officer, ACP Jimoh Moshood, the Police said, “The attention of the Nigeria Police Force has been drawn to Press Statement credited to the Senate President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, Senator Abubakar Bukola Saraki, of “Plot Against Him by IGP”. “The Nigeria Police Force is shocked at the unbelievable claims, unverifiable allegations and unfounded accusations being peddled against the IGP by the Senate President, accusing the Inspector General of Police, IGP Ibrahim Idris of plot and strategies against him to settle scores. “The Force therefore wishes to categorically state that, there is no iota of truth in the allegation and false assertion by the Senate President of plot against him by the IGP to implicate the Kwara State Government and the Senate President in any criminal matter. “Until investigation is concluded, any person, persons or group who tries to interfere in the investigation process by action or utterances is committing an offence. “To set the records straight, the Kwara State Police Command on the 11th of May, 2018, paraded the following suspects before the Media and the Public, namely; Abolaji Safti Ojulari of Kankatu area, Ilorin, Lanre Mohammed Soliu a.k.a Askari of Ile Nda Compound, Ilorin, Azeez Moyaki of Moyaki Compound, Gambari Area Ilorin. Police drags Senate to court over IG
invitation, gives reasons why he can't be
invited again.
- Nigerian Senate has now been dragged to court by
the police
- The inspector general of police has refused to
personally honour the Senate's summon over alleged
ill treatment of Senator Dino Melaye
- Senators, according to the police, were taking the
matter of Dino Melaye too personal
The police have dragged Nigerian Senate to court
to determine if the inspector general of police, as
a matter of law, must always appear in person
each time the upper chamber invites him.
According to the police, the Senate can no longer
invite the inspector general again until the court
decides on their prayers.
Mr David Igbodo, commissioner of police, legal
department of the force headquarters, disclosed
this on Sunrise Daily, a programme on channels
TV.
The police was reacting to the recent declaration
by the Senate that inspector general of police
was an enemy of democracy and unfit to hold
public office. He also accused the Senate of taking the issue of invitation of the IGP very personal "That declaration that the inspector general of police is an enemy of democracy and unfit to hold office is laughable. They have no power to make such declaration," Igbodo said. Going further, he said that: "The inspector general of police was invited on the 25th to appear on the 26th and unfortunately he was in Bauchi state with the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. He sent a DIG to represent him and when the DIG got to the national assembly, the lawmakers said no. They requested for a brief and the inspector general prepared a brief and gave the brief to the DIG to brief the national assembly on the issue pertaining to Senator Dino Melaye and still, they rejected it, insisting that they want to see the inspector general of police in person." Channels Television Police Files Court Case Against The National Assembly. "At this point, a constitutions issue has arisen, so the inspector general of police said, ok, fine, let us go to court to let the court decide weather he must as a matter of law appear in person each time the national assembly invites him or whether he can exercise his power of delegation under the law and police acts and regulations. "So we are in court. We posed five questions and seven prayers. And until the court decides that, the national assemble has no power to invite the inspector general of police ," he added. Meanwhile, NAIJ.com had reported that the inspector general of police, Ibrahim Idris, responded to the Senate for describing him as an enemy of democracy after he failed to appear before it. Idris in a statement via police spokesperson, Jimoh Moshood, on Wednesday, May 9, accused the Senate of trying to blackmail him. He said he was on an official assignment when he was invited by the Senate and duly asked senior ranking officers to represent him as constitutionally stipulated.

The Nigerian Senate on Thursday, May 10, rushed to the Court of Appeal against the nullification of the suspension of one of its members, Ovie Omo-Agege by the Federal High Court in Abuja just as the lawmaker reacted to the judgement in his favour. READ ALSO: Tears as PDP chieftain Bode George loses 42-year-old son The Senate confirmed that it promptly filed a notice of appeal and a motion for stay of execution of the judgement of the lower court. The statement signed signed by one of his aides, Prince Efe Duku, read: today’s (May 10) judgment by Hon Justice Nnamdi Dimgba rightly nullifying the suspension of the Senator Ovie Omo-Agege is consistent with our firm position that the Senate as a foremost national institution should live consistently by example and set the pace in legislative best practices. NAIJ.com also reported that the decision of the Nigerian Senate to suspend Senator Ovie Omo- Agege for 90 legislative days has been quashed by a Federal High Court, sitting in Abuja , on Thursday, May 10. Alleged N1.4bn fraud: FG kicks as Peace Corps boss, Akor, begs
court to stop trial ON May 8, 2018 ABUJA – The Federal High Court in Abuja, on Tuesday, fixed June 11 to rule on a motion seeking to stop further hearing on the money laundering charge the Federal Government slammed against the Commandant of Peace Corps of Nigeria, Mr. Dickson Akor. Dickon Akor, embattled Peace Corps Commandant The Federal Government is prosecuting Akor on an amended 13- count charge bordering on his alleged involvement in N1.4billion recruitment scam. The Incorporated Trustees of the Corps was equally cited as the 2nd defendant in the charge marked FHC/ABJ/CR/45/2017. The defendants wereg accused of obtaining money by false pretence contrary to section 1(1)(a) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other fraud related Offences Act, Cap A6 laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under the same section of the Act. Specifically, FG alleged that the defendants had between January 1, 2013 and March 6, 2017, obtained money from unsuspecting job seekers who it said were made to pay money into Eco bank account No. 4582022099. It accused the defendants of laundering funds obtained through unlawful activity contrary to section 7(1)(b) of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other fraud related Offences Act, Cap A6 laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004. Aside charging Akor for organising and training members of Peace Corps of Nigeria as a quasi- Military organization contrary to section 6(1)(a) of the Public Order Act, Cap P42, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004 and punishable under the same section of the Act, FG accused the defendants of operating as a private guard without licence contrary to section 1(1) of the Private Guard Companies Act Cap P30, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004, an offence punishable under section 32 (1) of the Act. At the resumed proceeding in the case, the defendants, through their lawyer, Mr. John Ochogwu, applied for the trial to be adjourned sine-die (indefinitely) pending compliance to an order the court made on January 16, which directed the Nigerian Police Force to unseal the National Headquarters of the Corps in Abuja. Ochogwu told the court that Police has continued to lay seige at the Peace Corps head office in disobedience to two court orders and a directive from the National Assembly. He argued that section 287 of the 1999 constitution imbued the court with powers to enforce its orders, insisting that action of the security agents not only amounted to a direct affront on authority of the court, “it is a sad reminder of the dark days of military rule”, Ochogwu added “My lord the office of the defendants has been under seal and lock. This is a year and two months now since the arraignment. Some of the facilities needed for their defence is still under lock by the complainant. “The defendants are thoroughly disadvantaged. There is no how the matter will proceed without the defendants being allowed facilities to prepare their defence. “Granting this application will serve as deterrent to those who undermine the powers of the court”, the defence lawyer submitted. However, in its five-paragraphed counter-affidavit, FG maintained that section 306 of the Administration of Criminal Justice Act, ACJA, prohibited the court from staying proceedings in a criminal trial. “Their prayer seeks to operate as a request for stay of proceeding. We urge my lord to uphold decisions of the Supreme Court in the case between FRN vs Saraki and FRN vs Metuh”, government lawyer, Mr. A. S. Don-Oboh stated. After he had listened to both parties, trial Justice John Tsoho adjourned to rule on the matter. It will be recalled that the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr. Abubakar Malami, SAN, on August 11, 2017, took over prosecution of the defendants from Police. The AGF equally pruned down charges against the defendants from 90 to 13 counts. Akor had pleaded not guilty to all the allegations against him, even as the trial court granted him bail to the tune of N30million. The court however ordered him to surrender his international passport to the Deputy Chief Registrar, pending the determination of the case against him.

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has described
ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo as the “boss of
bosses.”
According to him, any politician who ignores the
elder statesman does so at his peril.
Jonathan
Jonathan said this while speaking with Dele
Momodu, publisher of Ovation Magazine, on the
2019 election.
The immediate past president said the chances of
former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar were bright in
the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, but noted that
he would need the endorsement of Obasanjo.
Jonathan said: “He (Atiku) can’t get the APC ticket.
If Atiku gets our party ticket, he would compete
well.
“He’s always a passionate politician. But he would
have to reach out to our boss, Baba OBJ, the boss
of all bosses.
“We’ve all learnt at different times that you ignore
OBJ at your peril. OBJ has the magic wand. He is
respected at home and abroad.”
Obasanjo played a major role in the political career
of Jonathan. He had influenced Jonathan’s choice
as the running mate of late President Umaru Musa
Yar’Adua.
Jonathan, who rose to the number one position
after the death of Yar’Adua, fell out with Obasanjo in
2013.
Obasanjo wrote an open letter to him. The situation
got worse when the elder statesman refused to
endorse the re-election bid of the Ijaw leader.
He was critical of Jonathan during the
electioneering period, accusing him of plotting to
win the election by hook or crook.
But Jonathan fired back by making a veiled
reference to Obasanjo. He said some elders were
behaving like motor park touts.
Both men reconciled in January when Jonathan paid
a surprise visit to Ibogun, the hometown of
Obasanjo. |
