It's Bbsharon again. I hope these areas are not susceptible to kidnapping?

I actually have no idea about that but then no where is really safe in the country. Also, we didn’t step down from that car and we are sure to turn the speed up if we had noticed anything suspicious.

Travel / A Drive Through Calabar, Cross River State To Akpabuyo Community Nigeria by Bbsharon(f): 10:34pm On Jun 27, 2022
Road trip from Calabar to neighbouring community of Akpabuyo.

Driving through was a little scary as immediately we left the checkpoint leaving Calabar town we were faced with just bushes until we got to the bridge connecting Calabar Town to the little community of Akpabuyo.

Here in this video i shared the beauty of enjoying road trips within Nigeria and how easy it can be when there is a good road network put in place.

This small agrarian community is a major supplier of agricultural product in Cross river state Calabar, Nigeria. The community is under the Akpabuyo local government area council of Cross River State.

The major ethnic group is the Efik group, while the major language spoken is Efik and English. it was relieving to see a bank at least in the community as shown in the video and a little mini neighbourhood market within.

There wasn’t much to see left for we enjoying the tranquility of the environment with beautiful green scenery away from the busy township. Also enjoyed the lovely Efik songs played on the radio

Gurara is safe.

Looking at your pictures I assumed it was even a recent one.

I was recently there and it still attracts visitors. Gurara is on the Abuja-Minna road. And that road is safe.

Oh wow!! Great to know that.

You're welcome... wink

Yeah, "Virtual Tours" with Webcams installed on popular global tourist sites were big hits before and during the global lockdowns of 2020.

I watched the full video you posted here on your spontaneous visit to
Gurara waterfalls, and you're one gal that loves taking kickass risks. I'm sure you didn't even tell any member of your family before heading out for the waterfalls. Lol.

I did not fail to notice the new "wedding ring" in your video... So, that's probably one of the major reasons why you stopped posting here... Huh? I've been reading your posts for some years now though, using my oldest NL account registered from the late 2000s.

Cheers!

Thanks for the compliments and info on virtual tours!! Also, thanks for watching through the video, and yea I’m a very adventurous individual grin

True that @Bbsharon... You must have had a great and fun-filled time on that Gurara trip.wink I always love to go on stimulating leisure travel to various countries as well, and explore something new.

We have to stick with virtual tours of the breathtaking Nigerian tourist scenes for now... with the exception of some tourist sites in Yorubaland (Lagos, Ogun, Ekiti, etc) and Calabar that can be visited physically.

Well, we keep trucking.

Safe Trips!

Virtual Tours! cheesy Yea.
Thank you!!

Those are awesome views of
Gurara falls @Bbsharon.

What rainy season year did you visit there?

I'd love to visit Gurara as a tourist, but based on travel advisory as of 2022, security would be a major issue. What do you think?

That was in 2019.
Definitely, security is a serious issue and threat to Nigeria tourism at the moment so I advise to wait it out a little bit more.

Hiking to get to the top of the falls can be tedious and stressful so best time to visit the falls would be doing the dry season as the rocks are less slippery and easier to climb through.

However the best time to see the beauty of the falls with it’s full view would be doing the rainy season.

Though the water might look muddy due to flood and erosions from the rains.

Here are pictures of the falls during the rainy season when I visited…

I also gave tips on how to travel better when visiting a tourist centre in Nigeria and what time of the year is best to visit this particular waterfall in Nigeria.

Gurara waterfalls is located along the Suleja-Minna express way in Gurara local government area of Niger state Nigeria and it’s one of the main tourist attraction focus of the state.

The surroundings around the fall has a large land mass that is not been put into use as I feel it could be turned into a proper resort with lots of touristic activities and generate more revenue to the state.

Here are few pictures of the falls…

This combo comes with well garnished sauces, fresh vegetables, a roasted fish to compliment the taste and of course with very special packaging.

It’s very important to note that this is way different from the usual and regular Bole that sells in other cities like Lagos.

Bole and Fish is one of the best street food readily available in Calabar, Nigeria. Here is a video I made on my visit to one of the most popular and best restaurants in Calabar that sells this special combo dish.

Went way back in 2011 and it was honestly one the best interstate vacations I’ve ever been on in the country. T-Mart was still being finished then so they didn’t even have any ventilation besides standing fans in the aisles, the arts and crafts center was bubbling and the water slide and pool were very much active.

Sad to see it’s a shadow of its former self undecided

Sad to see all that gone…the pool is still there tho but it was so crowded and not looking so good at all

The Resort has been abandoned for long and during the End SARS Nationwide protest it was further vandalized and the few shops and mini malls that were still operating were robbed and destroyed, the hotel was also vandalized leaving carcass of a once beautiful resorts left to ruins.

The theatres, studios and most other facilities here are no longer functioning and mainly no events or exhibition goes on here.

I really hope this place is properly looked into and restructured to get it going and live up to its designed expectations as it is a big source of tourism income for Cross River State and the Nation.

So, what exactly happened to this beautiful resort? Why has it become a deserted and abandoned place? While driving through we decided to stop at the reception by the entrance to the waterpark. We could see a swimming pool inside the park close to the water slide but I would dare not jump in that pool even if it's for free as it was crowded and looks dirty.

We were told we had to pay 1500 each to have access to an abandoned water park ride, a crowded swimming pool, and a few working restaurants offering local dishes. Well, we thought there was no need for that as it was not fascinating enough so we left and rather just drive through to observe the beautiful natural surroundings.

The resort located by the Calabar river was commissioned on 2nd April 2007, and was built to be a hub of business and recreational functions and activities with duty free shopping available to tourist and visitors. The resort approximately occupies 80,000 square metres, made up of small shops, warehouses, an entertainment strip which includes a digital cinema, casino, children's arcade, a mini Amphitheatre, restaurants, night clubs and pubs.

The resorts also has an open trade centre for exhibitions and other events, a movie production studio, a water park and parking space, a three star hotel facilities known as the Tinapa Lakeside Hotel and an artificial tidal lake from the Calabar river.

It was all just beautiful nature with little or no activities going on around the resort.

A brief information about the resort as it used to be from way back;

Tinapa Resort was built and designed according to plan to be a business and leisure resort located North of Calabar Municipality in Cross River State Calabar, Nigeria. The resort is under the area allocated as the Calabar Free Trade Zone which is the north area of the port in Calabar. The area is designedly assigned to companies engaged in manufacturing, trading, provision of services and oil and gas activities.

What exactly happened to the beautiful, attractive and popular tourist attraction known as Tinapa Resort Calabar should be a question every well meaning lover of tourism especially in Nigeria should be worried about.

I made a visit May, 2022 to this once beautiful centre of attraction that use to be a hub of great and captivating activities in the city of Calabar and it was clearly an eye sore, save for the beautiful and lush green environment and nature left to be admired, there was nothing else out of the ordinary to make it really worth your stay.

Here is a link to a beautiful video on my YouTube I made of the surroundings while driving through....
