Evil Forces Trying To Derail Nigeria - Jonathan

President Goodluck Jonathan on Saturday raised the alarm that evil forces were working to derail Nigeria.

He, however, said if Nigerians sought the face of God wholeheartedly, He would empower them to overcome all the forces.

Jonathan spoke at the third Presidential National Breakfast Prayer held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

“In the book of Jeremiah, God said, ‘If you seek me with all your heart, you will find me.’ May we seek Him with all our hearts so that He can empower us to overcome all the evil forces trying to derail this nation. May we seek Him with all our hearts to let His light shine over our nation and to guide us in leading our great nation to its destined goal,” the President said.

Jonathan stated that if all Nigerians resolved to do what was right and serve as change agents, the country would get to its right destination and would become a great nation.

“Providence has placed us all at our various posts at this particular time in our nation’s journey to greatness, therefore we must not be deterred or be weary in spirit at this time. We must be hopeful, focused and watchful to overcome all that is evil confronting our nation. We should believe in the saying of the scriptures that with men, it is impossible but with God all things are possible,” Jonathan added.

Justifying the annual prayer session which he started in 2010, the President said prayer was the way ordained for men to link up with their creator.

He said the session had become a forum to establish God’s link at the Presidential Villa.

Pastor Julius Falola of Kano-based Believers’ Foundation of Nigeria, delivered the sermon at the prayer session that featured special prayer sessions for the country, its leaders and the citizens.

Falola said God had great promises for nations that submit to Him and that, “He would make their adversaries fall before them and make them creditors and lender, to others.”

Meanwhile, the President’s wife, Patience, was conspicuously absent at the prayer session, which was attended by dignitaries including former Head of the Interim National Government, Ernest Shonekan; Deputy President of the Senate, Ike Ekweremadu; Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emeka Ihedioha; Governor Theodore Orji of Abia State; Governor Gabriel Suswam of Benue State; his wife, Yemisi; members of the diplomatic corps and top government officials among others.

Mrs. Jonathan returned to the country on Friday evening from what is believed to be another round of medical treatment in Germany.

Some of her aides however attended the session.

A source told our correspondent that Mrs. Jonathan was resting after her Friday trip.

Meanwhile, the Prelate, Methodist Church Nigeria, Dr. Sunday Makinde, has berated northern leaders for seeking amnesty for members of violent sect, Boko Haram, without identifying them.

He said leadership failure in the North was responsible for the insurgency in the region.

He described the call for amnesty by the North as a bait, warning President Jonathan not to succumb to the pressure. He said the amnesty, if hurriedly granted, would be counterproductive.

Indications had emerged after a meeting between Jonathan and the Northern Elders Forum at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Thursday, that Jonathan was considering granting amnesty to members of the sect as a way out of the ongoing insurgency.

In an interview with our correspondent, Makinde however said it would be premature to grant amnesty to Boko Haram until northern leaders, who are calling for amnesty, invite its members for a public dialogue.

The cleric, who accused the leaders of knowing members of Boko Haram, said dialogue and amnesty should be put on hold until the leaders identified the fundamentalists, as they were not “ghosts.” According to him, amnesty could not be given by proxy.

Makinde said, “The warning I’m giving is that what Boko Haram is doing now will set the North back for about 20 to 25 years.

“Boko Haram has set the North back because no local, regional, national or international investor will ever go there to invest because they have destroyed what some people laboured for years to achieve.”

Makinde said amnesty could only be granted to members of Boko Haram, if their reasons were justifiable.

He argued that the Niger Delta militants were justified because they fought for the control of their resources and for being neglected.

PoliticsNew Political Group, APCN, Emerges by bcomputer101(op): 6:05am On Apr 07, 2013
A new twist has been added to the unfolding drama
over the APC acronym, being claimed by three
political associations.
A new group claiming the acronym has emerged.
Only this time, the group which also claims to be All
Progressives Congress has written to the
Independent National Electoral Commission seeking
to add "Nigeria" to its acronym, APC.
Our correspondent gathered in Abuja, on Friday that
the group had no affiliation to the All Progressives
Congress being promoted by the coalition of
opposition political parties.
SUNDAY PUNCH had on March 24, 2013 reported that
the APC being promoted by opposition political
parties was considering adding "N" (Nigeria) to its
acronym since the African People's Congress had
taken INEC to court over its refusal to register it.
But the new group will by its decision to add N to its
name prevent the mega party from using it.
In an advertorial published in a national daily on
Friday, the new group wrote: "The below document
(sic) are evidence (sic) of our ongoing registration
process to register the All Progressive Congress as a
political party which started over a month ago.
"INEC in replying out ( sic) first letter advised us to
change our acronym so that it will not conflict with
the acronym of the African People's Congress (APC)
which at that time was the first to submit an
application in compliance with the INEC letter to us
and to avoid an acronym war with the African
People's Congress (APC), which has announced their
decision to challenge INEC decision to deny them
registration at the court in line with Section 76 of the
Electoral Act, we have adjusted our earlier
application to now read All Progressive Congress of
Nigeria (ACPN)."
Reacting to the development, the National Publicity
Secretary of the Action Congress of Nigeria, Lai
Mohammed, said the development was the
handiwork of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party.
He explained that Nigerians were smart enough to
read between the lines, adding that it was left for
INEC to prove to the world the kind of umpire it was.
Mohammed said, "It is all the handiwork of the
Presidency and the PDP. But you see, this will be a
test case for INEC because INEC refused to register
UPGA on the grounds that it was too close to APGA
now that INEC has notice of our intention to merge
under the banner of APC, we will want to see if they
will still register APCN, we are waiting."
Also speaking on the issue, National Publicity
Secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change,
Rotimi Fashakin, said, "This is all part of the script
we are talking about. What they are trying to do is to
close whatever option which we may have should
we decide to choose another name, this is clear
political rascality. They are petrified at the progress
of the merger. Jonathan has learnt from the grand
patriarch of the PDP, General Olusegun Obasanjo. It
is executive rascality. "
However, the Peoples Democratic Party dismissed
the allegations levelled against it by the opposition.
The party's National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa
Metuh , said, " My response is that over the years we
have had people leaving PDP, we have never
accused ACN, we have had people disagreeing with
PDP, and we have had internal challenges and
sometimes even minor crisis, we have never blamed
opposition parties.
"We do hope that when they start having their
challenges and crisis they will not be blaming PDP.
"We know there is still a storm coming when they
are going to do their primaries. They will have
storms, when they are having their congresses they
will have storms, when it comes let them not blame
PDP because it is normal with administering a large
party. If they do not have the capacity or the
competence to be at the helm of a party then they
should stop making noise. It means Nigerians cannot
trust them to superintend the economy of this
country."
It will be recalled that hours after the African
People's Congress unveiled its logo and national
secretariat in Abuja, the All Progressives Congress
being promoted by opposition political parties
insisted that the acronym, APC, remained its
intellectual property and would not relinquish it.
This is just as news emerged that another political
association with a similar acronym, All Patriotic
Citizens, had also applied to the Independent
National Electoral Commission for registration as a
political party.
The African Peoples Congress and the All
Progressives Congress had been laying claim to the
acronym, APC, before the emergence of All Patriotic
Citizens.

PoliticsPresident yet to give ceasefire order --Army by bcomputer101(op): 5:56am On Apr 07, 2013
President Goodluck Jonathan's decision to consider
amnesty for members of the Islamic fundamentalist
sect, Boko Haram, is not sitting well with the military
high command, SUNDAY PUNCH has gathered.
Jonathan, on Thursday, had set up a committee to
consider the possibility of granting amnesty to Boko
Haram members.
Our correspondents gathered that senior military
officials at the defence headquarters viewed the
committee as a "political move" that would not solve
the insecurity plaguing the nation.
A cross-section of the military top echelons told our
correspondents that they had yet to receive an
instruction from the President to stop operations in
the northern states where Boko Haram is wreaking
havoc.
According to them, since they only read about the
committee on the pages of newspapers, it is not
sufficient for them to halt their operations.
Confirming this, the Defence Headquarters said even
though it would back any decision taken by the
Federal Government, it had yet to get directives from
relevant authorities to cease fire.
Speaking, in a telephone conversation with one of
our correspondents, the Director of Information,
Brig. Gen. Chris Olukolade, noted that the setting up
of the committee on amnesty for Boko Haram would
not affect the operations of the Joint Task Force
involved in internal security operations in the North-
East.
"The status quo will remain until further directives
are given. The JTF has a responsibility to maintain
the peace and the usual vigilance to sustain the
tempo of operations," he said.
Olukolade added that the Armed Forces would
continue to give the expected support to the
government to surmount the security challenges in
the country.
He said, "The Nigerian Armed Forces will completely
back any position taken by the Federal Government
on this subject.
"The military will work towards effective realisation
of the ultimate decision of government on the issue
of tackling the nation's security challenges without
any equivocation whatsoever."
Meanwhile, there is growing anger within the rank
and file of the military as a result of the decision by
the Federal Government to consider granting
amnesty to the extremist sect.
SUNDAY PUNCH learnt that the Joint Task Force
comprising security personnel from the armed
forces, the State Security Service and the Nigerian
Customs believed that granting amnesty to the sect
could have far-reaching negative security
implications.
Security officers, who also spoke on the condition of
anonymity, expressed reservations over the Federal
Government's decision, which they described as ill-
advised and a "pat on the back for the sect."
They stressed that the sect members were very rigid
and not amenable to "soft talk" and insisted that the
government should resist undue political pressure,
adding that negotiation with terrorists rarely yielded
positive results.
TA soldier working in one of the troubled northern
states said since the Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen.
Azubuike Ihejirika, had not asked them to stop going
after members of the sect, they won't drop their
weapons.
he soldier, who pleaded anonymity out of fear of
victimisation said, "We are just getting this
information from the papers; we have not heard
anything from the Chief of Army Staff or from the
army headquarters. But I must tell you that soldiers
here are not happy and they are grumbling seriously
against any plan to consider amnesty for these
people. Do you know how many people they have
killed? This is purely politics and it will have bad
effects on the security of this country. We are against
this amnesty thing.
"The situation is even more precarious because
some of the people championing the cause of the
planned amnesty for Boko Haram might have links
with international terror networks."
Another security official, who pleaded anonymity
for the same reason, said amnesty for Boko Haram
would not work because many of the sect members
that were arrested in the past and placed under a
"de-radicalisation and perception management"
programme by the State Security Service still went
back to violence after they were released.
"The President might have been misled into
considering granting amnesty for Boko Haram by
his advisers, who probably want to placate the
northern political establishment. From a broad
point of view, it is an ill-advised decision which
could backfire and leave the national security more
vulnerable than before.
"Amnesty for Niger Delta militants is not the same as
the one being considered for Boko Haram terrorists
whose only goal was the total islamisation of the
country," a senior police officer said.
Earlier, Ihejirika had ruled out immediate
negotiation with the Boko Haram sect because of
what he termed the " "insincere nature of the group."
The Army Chief, who spoke at an interactive session
on military/media relations in Lagos, last week, had
said the sect could not be trusted to hold genuine
talks with government.
He had said, "These are people that would be talking
about peace in the morning and before you would
say good afternoon, the same people calling for truce
are attacking and killing innocent people with
bombs and guns.
"The Federal Government has in several instances
pleaded with the group to come to the roundtable for
peace talks but it never showed up.
"Let those people calling for amnesty for the group
start peace talks with them. If they are able to get the
group together, then, government would assess the
situation and may consider another way of handling
the situation."
Jonathan's committee on amnesty for Boko Haram
was set up on Thursday after a marathon five-hour
meeting between the President, the military high
command and other security services at the
Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The committee, whose members have yet to be
named, was mandated to consider the propriety of
granting pardon to the sect, take an inventory of the
calls by various groups advocating amnesty for the
sect, and to come up with the modalities for granting
such an amnesty if it became a necessity.

PoliticsPresidency, PDP Slam Tinubu Over Anti-jonathan Comment by bcomputer101(op): 6:27am On Apr 06, 2013
The Presidency on Friday slammed a former
Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, for
his Thursday's comment on President Goodluck
Jonathan.
Tinubu had at a lecture held to celebrate the 60th
birthday anniversary of Governor Adams
Oshiomhole of Edo State in Benin City, criticised
Jonathan for allegedly presiding over the
establishment of the Peoples Democratic Party
Governors' Forum as a counterweight to the Nigerian
Governors' Forum, which cuts across party lines.
The national leader of the Action Congress of Nigeria
accused the President of allegedly dividing the
governors just because they had the temerity to
oppose the Excess Crude Account.
Tinubu said he was ashamed of the President for
presiding over the creation of the PDP Governors'
Forum, adding that by his actions, Jonathan was not
promoting democracy.
But the Special Adviser to the President on Political
Matters, Ahmed Gulak, in an interview with our
correspondent, said he was shocked at Tinubu's
utterances.
This statement means Tinubu is not a leader, it
means he should not be followed.
"The President is the father of this nation; he
represents the sovereignty of the country," he said.
PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh,
in a statement on Friday, questioned the motive of
the ACN leader in his comments about the PDPGF.
Metuh described Tinubu's comments as "contrary to
the constitutionally guaranteed freedom of
association."
PDP said, "Since the inception of the current
democratic dispensation, governors have had
several groups where they meet to aggregate their
common interests. We have governors of the ACN
always meeting.
"We also have groups like the Northern Governors
Forum, South East Governors Foum, South South
Governors Forum and so on. What is the idea behind
Tinubu's attack on the PDPGF? It goes to show the
absence of democratic tenets in him for him to
attempt to prevent Nigerian citizens from associating
with one another."
When contacted, Tinubu's Chief Press Secretary, Mr.
Kunle Abimbola, referred our correspondent to the
former governor's Special Adviser on Media, Mr.
Sunday Dare.
However, calls to Dare's phone indicated that it was
switched off.

PoliticsPDP Backs Jonathan On Amnesty For B'haram by bcomputer101(op): 6:20am On Apr 06, 2013
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party has
thrown its weight behind President Goodluck
Jonathan for constituting an amnesty committee on
the Boko Haram insurgency.
The party said the President's action was another
demonstration of his sincerity and forthrightness in
handling national issues.
It said the President had shown that he was indeed a
listening leader and that the unity of the country was
paramount to him in line with the vision of the
founding fathers of the nation.
A statement issued by the National Publicity
Secretary of the party, Chief Olisa Metuh, on Friday,
said the constitution of the committee was
commendable.
The statement said, "We believe the initiative of the
President in setting up the amnesty committee is the
best decision at the moment and we are optimistic
that this drive will yield the desired results in the
general good and restore the unity of our nation.
"In giving the committee the terms of reference to
consider the feasibility or otherwise of granting
amnesty to the Boko Haram adherents and to collate
the clamour arising from different interest groups,
who want the Federal Government to administer
clemency on members of the religious sect and to
recommend the modalities for granting amnesty if
necessary, the President has again shown his
humility and commitment to carry all Nigerians
along in all his actions in line with the tenets of
democracy.
"We assure Nigerians that the PDP remains resolute
in the commitment to restore peace in the country,
especially in the North and to return the region to its
lost glory as the hub of unity, investment and trade
in the country and the West African sub-region."
Metuh described the northern part of the country as
the most receptive region in the country, adding that
there was no part of the country that was more
accommodating "than the North which has always
been home for all people, irrespective of religious
creed and tribal affiliations."

SportsNFF To Wade Into Keshi, Eagles Bickering. by bcomputer101(op): 12:58am On Apr 05, 2013
The Nigerian Football Federation would intervene in the face-off between some Super Eagles players and Stephen Keshi, the Chief Coach of the team, Emeka Inyama, Chairman, Media Committee of the NFF, has said.

Inyama told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Umuahia after the Week 15 midweek encounter between Abia Warriors FC of Umuahia and Crown FC of Oshogbo that the intervention would be made to get the best from the team.

He was reacting to reports of crisis of confidence between Super Eagles captain, Joseph Yobo, strikers Emmanuel Emenike, Osaze Odemwingie and Keshi.

He said that the strained relationship between the players and the coach was unacceptable to the NFF.

“We’ll request the coaches to improve the relationship between him and the players.

“The players like to be massaged; Keshi was once a player and when you have a good relationship with your coach it even makes the player to play better.

“Players sometimes play for the sake of their coaches.

“So the relationship in our own opinion has to be improved. We have to see what the problems are and make them to work together.

“Yobo is the national captain of Nigeria he cannot be ignored; Emenike is one of the best strikers in Nigeria he cannot be ignored; Osaze is one of the best players in Nigeria he cannot be ignored.

“We need the best legs for Nigerian matches.

“So anything that will be done and everything that will be done to improve the relationship between the coach and the players Nigerian Football Federation will do so.

Yobo also complained that the coach should have informed him of his exclusion from the team that prosecuted the Nigeria-Kenya World Cup qualifier in March before making the list public, arguing that it was a matter of respect as he is the team captain.

Keshi has since admitted not informing the Super Eagles captain of his exclusion from the team before the list was made public.

PoliticsPlateau State Bans Brothels by bcomputer101(op): 12:50am On Apr 05, 2013
The Plateau Government on Thursday banned
brothels operation and directed operators to
immediately close them.
“All operators of such brothels have been directed to
immediately close down or face full wrath of the
law,'' Mr Abraham Yiljap, the state Commissioner for
Information, said in Jos.
Yiljap, who spoke after the weekly State Executive
Council meeting chaired by Gov. Jonah Jang, said
that government had never endorsed the operations
of the brothels.
He stressed that revenue officers had always been
cautioned against visiting such areas to source
revenue.
Yiljap described brothels as “detrimental'' to the
spiritual well being of the Plateau people.
“Government intends to strengthen its revenue base,
but we have decided never to collect any revenue
from brothels in view of their negative influences on
the society,'' he said.
He directed revenue collectors never to collect
revenue from brothels henceforth, adding “their
activities are illegal so no revenue should be
collected from any of them,'' he asserted.
The commissioner also frowned at activities of
revenue collectors at the local government areas,
noting that some had formed the habit of blocking
roads “in the guise of revenue collection''.
“Those fond of constituting such nuisance should
stop forthwith or face the wrath of the law because it
is illegal to block roads,'' he said.

HealthMother Of 15-yr-old Needing Kidney Transplant Pleads(with Picture) by bcomputer101(op): 9:33am On Apr 04, 2013
Lekan Yusuff’s mother and uncle came to the
Nigerian Tribune office to request the media’s help
in reaching out to tits readers in soliciting for funds
for the kidney transplant of their son, it was a last
thing they ever imagined they would have to do.
First, they never thought that the life of their son
would be hanging in the balance, waiting to be saved
by the kind support of the Nigerian public; and
second, they never anticipated that their child would
be so sick that he would require a surgery, if at all
one would be required, definitely not a kidney
transplant. But here they were, soliciting for over N5
million to save their son’s life.
Lekan Yusuf, an Ibadan-born, is a 15-year-old
brilliant young boy in SS 3, who has a kidney
disease. He was, as a matter of fact, preparing for
the WAEC mock exams at Loyola College, Ibadan
when it was discovered that he had a kidney disease.
According to his mother, Alhaja Romoke Yusuff, on
Friday, February 1, 2013, Yusuff was on his way to
school for WAEC mock examinations when she
noticed that his eyes were swollen. On examination,
she felt uncomfortable sending him to school and
therefore asked that he should be taken to a private
hospital close by for examinations. It was confirmed
that his PCV was okay and that he was well and as
such was sent back home. But during the weekend,
the mother made the resolve to take her only son to
the University College Hospital (UCH) for further
checks on Monday, seeing that his face had got a lot
more swollen than the previous day.
On getting to the UCH, after series of tests, it was
discovered that the young man was suffering from
an advanced stage of renal failure. In a letter written
and signed by Consultant Paediatric Nephrologist, Dr
A.O Asinobi on March 14, 2013 and made available
to the Nigerian Tribune, it was written that “15-year-
old Master Olalekan Yusuff with Hospital Number
955293 is the only son of his parents and has been
diagnosed with chronicle kidney disease in end stage
kidney failure. He needs to have a kidney transplant
which is presently not possible in Nigeria. They
kidney transplant is expected to cost a minimum of
five million naira. He is also required to be on
regular haemodialysis to stay alive before the
transplantation takes place.” The consultant signed
off that, “your kind and gracious donation to the
child’s bid to have a sustenance haemodialysis and
kidney transplant will be a gift of life for Master
Olalekan.”
Medical experts have said that acute renal failure
(also called acute kidney injury) means that an
individual’s, in this case, Yusuff’s kidneys camera,
had suddenly stopped working. The kidneys remove
waste products and help balance water and salt and
other minerals (electrolytes) in the blood but when
they stop working, waste products, fluids, and
electrolytes build up in the body, causing problems
that can be deadly, the experts said. This condition,
they said, can be caused by a sudden blockage that
stops urine from flowing out of the kidneys, among
others.
A visit by the Nigerian Tribune to the South East 2 of
the UCH, where Yusuff is currently a patient, last
Friday revealed that Yusuff, who was supposed to
have had an haemodialysis scheduled for the day
before could not do so due to lack of funds. He was
later rescheduled for another, after a kind donation
of N20,000. The haemodialysis was the eleventh that
Yusuff would be receiving in the course of eight
weeks. Yusuff has been scheduled for three dialysis
per week with each and other medical bills costing
as much as N20, 000 per session.
The visibly worried mother, who lamented to the
Nigerian Tribune, said the family has no strength to
back the growing financial burden of seeing to
Yusuff’s ailment as all their live savings have been
pulled to ensure that their son stayed alive up unto
this moment. The mother, who is in the clothes
selling business, has had to sell off her business to
raise funds for her son’s medical bill. Same as the
father, who had also sold off his block making
business. Yet, it was not enough.
“Our relatives and friends have rallied round to give
us money, apart from the ones we had also been able
to pull together, yet we don’t have enough. This is
why we are calling on well-meaning Nigerians to
help us. Lekan has dreams, big dreams ahead of him
and he most definitely wants to live to fulfill these
dreams. He is young and resilient, even in the face of
three dialysis per week; he still maintains his
optimism that all will be well.
This week, the doctors gave a verdict, he needs
kidney transplant to live as the dialysis won’t just cut
it anymore. Lekan has had 11 dialysis so far and
each one has cost more than N20,000; plus other
medications and hospital bills.
“We have spent our life savings, sold our businesses
and we are still unable to raise the N5million needed
to fly him abroad for the transplant.
Doctors have told us that we will need more than N5
million for other running expense and this is why we
are calling on the state governments, most especially
the Oyo State government, the wife of Oyo State
governor, Mrs Florence Ajimobi, to look kindly upon
us to help save our only son,” the mother said amid
tears.
Doctors have assured that Yusuff will live, if only the
transplant can be done as soon as possible. “Lekan is
the only son of his parents. Help them help their
son’s life. It will be a waste if this brilliant chap dies.
The world needs him, was what one of the teachers
at Yusuff’s school said when Nigerian Tribune paid a
visit to the school.
Well-meaning Nigerians who wish to help can do so
by donating to 0029724419. Yidiat Romoke Yusuff.
Access Bank or drop it at any Nigerian Tribune office
nearest to them. They could also reach out to Yusuff’s
family on: 08134691668 and 08077764894.

https://punch.iwayafricanigeri.netdna-cdn.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/01/Former-Minister-of-Information-and-Communications-Prof.-Dora-Akunyili-360x379.jpg

Former Minister of Information and Communications, Prof. Dora Akunyili, has supported the call for capital punishment for corrupt practices in order to transform the country.

Akunyili, who was the guest lecturer at the 7th lecture of the College of Natural and Applied Sciences, Bells University of Technology, Ota, Ogun State, on Wednesday, said the desired change in the country had been hampered by corruption, insecurity, poor leadership among others social vices.

She said, “In China, it is death penalty for corruption. I believe if we are really serious about fighting corruption, there is the need to insert harsher clauses to make corruption less attractive, just like they do in China.

“Once, one, two, three, four corrupt people are executed for corruption, some others who have such tendency will definitely fall in line.”

According to Akunyili, if the government fails to punish corrupt practices, it might as well be promoting it.

She added, “We just have to find a way to decisively fight corruption before it completely ruins this beautiful country.”

The former minister, who presented a paper entitled ‘National Transformation: the Challenge of our Time’, also suggested that the government must introduce a social security scheme for the unemployed youths as done in the United States and the United Kingdom.

She noted that government in those countries paid stipend to their unemployed so that the lives of the rich and middle class would be secured.

She added, “It is common sense that the rich will remain unsafe in the midst of a hungry and angry majority. Government in the Western world understands that the negative energy vibrating from such people is enough to create discomfort.”

Akunyili, who suggested that the government could start the scheme with the physically challenged and the aged, commended the Ekiti State Government for introducing a social security for the aged.

“To me, being a good leader means being a principled leader, and being principled simply means being a man or woman of your words, being guarded by the right moral compass, doing the right thing anytime, anywhere and even in the face of threats of any type. It is simply leadership by example,” she stated.

According to her, when a leader compromised his position by sharing filthy lucre with his or her subordinates, he or she has lost the right leadership authority and incapable of instilling any discipline in the work force.

She said, “When I was in NAFDAC, if I had allowed officers in the ports or the registration desks and other sensitive areas to make returns to me, we would not have been able to record any success in sanitising the food and drug sector.

Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof Isaac Adeyemi, said the institution invited Akunyili because of her pedigree and contributions to the nation’s development.

PoliticsJonathan, Others Will Go Through Primaries - PDP Members Insist. by bcomputer101(op): 8:59am On Apr 04, 2013
The Peoples Democratic Party, on Wednesday, said
that there was no move to amend its constitution to
pave the way for President Goodluck Jonathan and
second term governors as the sole aspirants of the
party at the 2015 primaries.
The National Publicity Secretary of the PDP, Chief
Olisah Metuh, who stated this at a news conference
in Abuja, said all aspirants of the party would go
through the primaries.
Metuh commented on the alleged discreet move by
the party's National Executive Committee to amend
the constitution to enable the President and second
term governors to have the right of first refusal as it
is being done in the United States.
In the US, political parties give incumbent president
and governors-automatic tickets if they want to re-
contest.
The ticket will only be thrown open if the incumbent
does not want to re-contest.
Metuh said the PDP's National Executive Committee
did not have the power to amend the constitution.
He said, "On constitution amendment, the NEC does
not have the power to handle such. It is above the
power of the NEC. The constitution provides that
there should be primaries and that everybody must
go through primaries; you must be able to come to
the national convention and I do not know why
people are talking about it.
"I am the National Publicity Secretary, nobody in the
executive; nobody in the legislature; nobody in the
administration of the party has ever mentioned it in
my presence. Nobody has ever told me. I have never
been informed. Nobody in the administration of the
party has said he has heard it.
"Now, why is it so important for us to talk about
amendment of the constitution or no amendment,
we have a constitution that must be followed to the
letter. As long as this constitution remains, there will
be primaries. People will be free to run primaries
according to the constitution of our party. That is
where we stand. The constitution says that there will
be primary. You cannot go against the constitution"
He also spoke on the crisis that trailed the removal of
the National Secretary of the party, Prince
Olagunsoye Oyinlola, and other officials from the
South-West.
Metuh said that the matter was still in court, adding
that the problem would be resolved based on court
decision.
He stated, "I will have really loved to speak a lot
about this issue of Oyinlola, Oni and what is
happening in the South-West. The matter is
subjudice. It is in court and being a lawyer, I am
weary of making any statement that might be
contemptuous of a court."
"Whatever the court decides; whatever comes up at
the end of the day, the party will obey it. As national
working committee, we have no interest whatever
in who occupies a position in the working
committee. We did not elect ourselves. We were
elected by our party members across the country
and we are responsible to our constitution.
"Nobody can remove another member of the
national working committee. There are
constitutional laid down procedures for you to
handle a working committee member or working
committee issue.
"In the South-West, what has happened is causing a
serious concern to our party leadership; to the
Governors' Forum, to the PDP Board of Trustees and
to the national working committee. We all want to
solve this crisis bearing in mind the decision of the
court."
Appealing to the media for balanced reporting of the
party, he said that there was no crisis in the party.
He also said that there was no move to remove any
member of the NWC, adding that the committee
would organise the 2015 elections.
Metuh stated that the committee enjoyed the full
confidence of the President; the PDP governors and
legislators as well as the Board of Trustees members
He stated, "We are not embattled with the President;
we are not embattled with our governors. I am
assuring you that this national working committee
has come to stay. This committee will conduct
elections in 2015. You can hold on to that. We will be
in charge of our party administration until our
tenure ends. There is no attempt to remove anyone
in the national working committee. There is no
crisis. There is no problem."
Metuh added that the reconciliatory tour of the PDP
Chairman, Dr. Bamanga Tukur, and that of the BOT
chairman were not contradictory.|
"The more the merrier. We are happy with our BOT
chairman. It is different in nature from the one we
are undertaking. I have said it and I want to say it
again, the election of Chief Anenih as chairman of
the BOT is one of the best things that ever happened
to this party. The idea tour is to ensure that every
section is visited. "
The PDP spokesman also denied an allegation that
there was a presidential directive that opposition's
All Progressive Congress should not be registered.
He said that the PDP would like the APC to be
registered to ensure that the country's democracy
was further strengthened.
A former vice-president, Atiku Abubakar, was two
weeks ago reported to have vowed to oppose any
attempt to amend the party's constitution in favour
of Jonathan's sole candidacy.
Atiku was defeated by Jonathan during the party's
presidential primaries in 2011.
He said, "My position is that, as far as PDP
constitution is concerned, any attempt to change the
rule to favour President Jonathan as a sole candidate
in the event of his willingness to contest is
unconstitutional."

CrimePicture Of A Girl Molested&Tortured To Death With A Huge WOOD In Private Part by bcomputer101(op):
I found this heart breaking picture of this young girl murdered like she was nothing on net this morning.Seriously,i’ve not been myself since then. The details of where or how the victim was murdered havn’t been made known yet but I’ll try get every detailed information about the murder.

With the mind of a psychologist,I would say she was kidnapped, raped and intentionally tortured to death by maybe an enemy. It pains me most to know that the wicked barbarians who did this to are out there walking the streets freely.

May God have mercy!

CelebritiesOur Decision To Go To Dubia Is Spiritual —2face & Wife by bcomputer101(op): 8:02am On Mar 29, 2013
Newly wed - Innocent Idibia, popularly
known as 2face, and his wife, Annie
Macauley-Idibia are currently basking in
delight as the Governor of Akwa Ibom State,
Godswill Akpabio, made good his promise of
a brand new Toyota Prado Jeep and a cheque
of 3million naira. The Idibias were full of
joy last week Thursday at the Liaison office
of the Akwa Ibom State government at
Victoria Island, Lagos State where they were
presented their cheque and car keys. SEGUN
ADEBAYO caught up with them shortly after
the presentation and brings the excerpts.
When Governor Godswill Akpabio of
Akwa Ibom State announced the
donation of two brand new SUV Prado
Jeeps, what was the first thing that
came to your mind?

Honestly, I was not expecting it. I knew the
governor is used to helping the downtrodden.
I had also known before now that he has a
noble mind but I was surprised when he
made the announcement. At first, I didn’t
know what to say, because the governor
really surprised us. His appearance at the
traditional wedding really boosts our
morale. We were so honoured to have him
grace the occasion that day. It was indeed an event that would remain indelible in my
mind. We never expected it because we didn’t know the governor would come to the
occasion that day. I guess everything worked together for good.
The governor also announced the
donation of a cheque of 3million naira
that would sponsor 20 members of your
family to Dubai for the white wedding
that same day...
Words cannot successfully explain the
feelings that captured my mind that day.Like I said, it was just beyond what I could explain. Governor Akpabio’s heart of gold has been extended to my family and I am so grateful to the governor and the people of Akwa Ibom State for their support since that day. They have been so wonderful and they have also made it clear again that they are peace loving and accommodating people. It was an important occasion in our lives and in the lives of the people of Akwa Ibom State.

It was a moment of joy for us and for the
entertainment industry at large. The
governor made a physical appearance and
blessed the marriage. He recognised us as
young couple that needs his blessing as we
start our marital journey.

How do you feel about the money?
Talking about the money, it is a sign of good things to come. If the governor could support us because he loves our newly established family, it means a lot to us and we are so happy about it. The governor knows that some family members may want to be part of the occasion, but don’t have the financial capacity. So, he donated the money so that we can cater for those people. He thought that the burden of sponsorship should not be left with us alone, so he has proved that he’s a man of the people.
What about the outcry that greeted the
donation since the pronouncement was
made, how did you handle that moment?
There was nothing to handle in that
situation. Governor Akpabio felt that as a
new couple, we would need all the financial
assistance we could get.

So, if he decides to support us and shows us
love, I don’t see why that should create any
outcry. Words cannot express how grateful
we are to the governor for the love and
support we have received so far since the
pronouncement of the wedding.
But some people believe that there is
more to the donations than what we are
seeing, do you feel like that too?
I don’t feel strangely, I am just happy and
that is the most important thing. My wife is
from the Akwa Ibom State and the governor
of the state is like a father to her. The
governor said he was doing all these because
he loves his daughter and I don’t think I
should feel anyhow because a father is
showering his daughter blessings. I don’t
believe anybody should feel anyhow, it is a
celebration mood, so everybody should be
happy.

Why the choice of Dubai and not Lagos
where you have lived for a long time?
I think there is this spiritual connection to
it, but I don’t want to disclose it now. Let’s
just say that we love Dubai and we also
discovered that it was a perfect venue for us.
Some people are of the opinion that you
actually picked Dubai to control the
crowd that day, what’s your take?
We thought of a perfect place for the white
wedding and the idea of Dubai came up. I
don’t know about crowd control. We just
want to have the best of the moment and
make sure things go rightly. There is nothing more to it. It does not have to do with controlling the people or anything. The fact is that you can’t run away from the people.
Anywhere you go, you will meet people and
these people have come to celebrate with us.
You said something about spirituality,
could you shed more light on that?
I don’t want to talk about it. You guys will
soon get to know, but let us keep it that way
for now.

How easy was it making this decision?
It was an easy decision because that is how
God wanted it to be and I can’t query that.
God’s way is different from that of man.
What God has joined together, let no man put asunder. We really appreciate God for His grace on our lives and we sincerely
appreciate the governor too. My brother, no
be small thing ooo. Let me also add this that i wish my wife will be able to borrow me the car anytime I need it ooo… because that one too is important.

Annie Idibia:
How do you feel today that the governor
has redeemed his pledge to your
family?
I am feeling on top of the world right now
and I am so indebted to the governor for his
love. I don’t know how to explain the
feeling. Like my husband had said, it was an
unspeakable experience that I won’t forget
for many years to come.

Don’t you feel any pressure going through all these?
The only feeling is that I am feeling so
excited and speechless. I am from Akwa
Ibom State and I should be more than a
happy woman today that I am witnessing one of the greatest moments of my life. The
governor is a worthy leader and a caring
father that I will always cherish. The feeling has been great and I know this feeling is nothing compared to what we will
experience in Dubai. Like my husband said,
he has the full access to the car anytime.

on a part-time basis because of my
schooling. I am in my final year now. My
first movie was Ese Aimodi. I’ve lost count of
the number of movies I have featured in till
date. I have never had a challenging role
because all the roles I’d played so far had
been good. The only challenge I faced when i started was meeting the right people.

backbite neither do I gossip about people. In

what goes around will definitely come
around.

Definition of style.
Style is a particular way of doing, designing
or producing something. My style is classy
and gorgeous. I love wearing English attires.

Beauty regimen.
I do not have any beauty regimen. I do not
use too heavy make-up and I make sure my
hairdo is one that befits me. I make sure I do not use stuffs like gel, facial, cleanser and so on. The weather and the occasion I am going
to determine my mood of dressing.

Favourite designers.
I don’t have a favourite designer. Whenever i want to buy my fashion ensemble, what I
look out for is colour and whether it fits me,
I am not a designer freak.

Favourite colours.
Green, pink and blue

Favourite perfume.
I use any nice perfume I can lay my hands
on.

I go for normal and moderate accessories.
Accessory I can’t do without.

admirers.
I do not usually have problems with them. i turn them down politely.
Secret of beauty.
Almighty God.

Pains and gains of being a celebrity.
The pain is that when I go out, I spend more
than is expected. While the gain is that it
opens doors of opportunities for me.

Advice on how to stay young and
beautiful.
Women should take good care of their
bodies. They should eat lots of fruits, avoid
heavy food at night and should not eat when
they are not hungry. They should also avoid
bleaching cream because it wrinkles the
body and makes the skin looks older than it
should be.

To my fans.
Be focused and keep your head up.
Determination is a key for success, be
determined and do not give up until you win.

CultureA Short History Of Yorubaland With Pictures by bcomputer101(op): 12:55am On Mar 28, 2013
he Yorubas originated from people known as the Oyo who arose and became quite popular by their trading with the Portuguese, which gave them a large supply of guns.

However, they were unable to push back the Fulani who invaded them and pushed much of the Yoruba to the south.

In the late 1800′s the Yoruba formed a treaty with the Fulani and in 1901 they were colonized by the British. Because of their enmity with the Fulani who are the great Islam evangelists most of the Yoruba do not hold to Islam but instead worship many of the gods and spirits that the Yoruba hold to.

Economically the Yoruba primarily engage in agriculture, with about 15% of the people employed as merchants or artists and craftsman.

One of the features that make the Yoruba unique is their tendency to form into large city groups instead of small village groups. The Yorubas are today one of the three main ethnic groups that make up Nigeria. They can also be found in neighbouring countries.

Yoruba people are a large ethno-linguistic group or ethnic nation in Africa, and the majority of them speak the Yoruba language. The Yoruba constitute approximately 21 percent of Nigeria’s total population, and around 40 million individuals throughout the region of West Africa. While the majority of the Yoruba live in western Nigeria, there are also substantial indigenous Yoruba communities in Benin, Ghana, Togo and the Caribbean.

A significant percentage of Africans enslaved during the Trans Atlantic Slave Trade in the Americas managed to maintain the Yoruba spiritual religion known as Aborisha.

Indeed, the initiation and practice of Aborisha spiritual religion offers a route to all people of African descent, who were victims of slave trade in the Americas or the Caribbean, to make claim to Yoruba heritage.

The Yorubas are the main ethnic group in the states of Ekiti, Lagos, Ogun, Ondo, Osun, and Oyo, which are subdivisions of Nigeria; they also constitute a sizable proportion of Kwara and Kogi States as well as Edo State.

Major towns and cities

Traditionally, the Yorubas organized themselves into networks of related villages, towns and kingdoms; with most of them headed by an Oba (King) or Baale (a nobleman or mayor). The main Yoruba cities and towns are Ile-Ife, Ibadan, Lagos, Ijebu Ode, Abeokuta, Akure, Ilorin, Ijebu-Igbo, Ogbomosho, Ondo, Badagri, Ado-Ekiti, Osogbo, Ilesa, Oyo, Owo, Kabba, Offa, Ilesa, Ilobu, Ede etc. There are other Yoruba cities and towns such as Ketu, Sabe, Dassa and others in Republic of Benin.

There are other towns and cities with historical affiliation with the Yoruba people because they share one or more similarities together. Some of these cities and towns are Benin city, Warri, Auchi, Okene etc.

PoliticsIndependence Day Bombing: Henry Okah Jailed For 24 Years by bcomputer101(op): 2:02pm On Mar 26, 2013
Johannesburg - Nigerian Henry Okah was
jailed for 24 years by the South Gauteng
High Court in Johannesburg on Tuesday.
"Effectively, the accused [Okah] is
therefore sentenced to 24 years
imprisonment," Judge Neels Claassen said
as he handed down sentence.
On 21 January, Okah was found guilty on
13 counts of terrorism, including
engaging in terrorist activities,
conspiracy to engage in terrorist
activities, and delivering, placing, and
detonating an explosive device.
Car bombs
The charges related to two car bombs in
Abuja, Nigeria, in which 12 people were
killed and 36 injured on 1 October 2010,
the anniversary of the country's
independence.
The second bombing took place in Warri
on 15 March 2010 at a post amnesty
dialogue meeting. One person was killed
and 11 seriously injured.
In both bombings, two car bombs went off
minutes apart in both places. The cars
were parked in close proximity to each
other.
Claassen sentenced Okah to 12 years
imprisonment for each of the bombings
and 13 years for the threats made to the
South African government after his arrest
in October 2010.
The 13 years would run concurrently with
the 24 years.
In January, during judgment Claassen
said the State had proved Okah's guilt
beyond a reasonable doubt, and his
failure to testify meant the evidence
against him remained uncontested.
Okah has denied any involvement,
claiming the charges against him were
politically motivated.
PoliticsAchebe To Deliver Message To Zik, Awo, Ojukwu, Balewa And Others. by bcomputer101(op):
“The guru is gone. Papa Achebe is gone. Sir, safe journey. Have you seen Ojukwu? Please tell him that his brothers and sisters are experiencing another pogrom in Kano State. What of Awo? If you have come across him, tell him that Nigeria is preparing for another war.

What of the great ZIK of Africa?  Please let him know that those things that made him to cross the Atlantic Ocean 50 times seeking for peace is looming again.

Have you seen Yar’Adua?  Let him know too; that amnesty, that evil seed is causing wahala in Nigeria, that even some monstrous elements have started asking for it. Tell him that it has even been extended to convicted criminals who looted the nation dry.
What of Tafawa Balewa?  Don’t fail to let him know that his own scions are now carrying weapons against Nigeria.

Obviously you may not see Abacha, but if you see any one who will see him, tell him that 18 years after his reign,  Mustapha is still in Kirikiri, kept by those who have skeletons in their cupboard.

What of MKO?  Please, Sir, remember to tell him that another June 12 is looming.

Dear Achebe, who else have you seen since that night you joined your ancestors? Please don’t discuss Nigerian problem with them but just tell them that truly There was a Country, only that Things have Fallen Apart and Nigeria is No Longer at Ease  Once again, remind them that the Arrow of God is now pointing at all of us, especially all of them who kept us in this mess. Adieu. The great writer”
