The Chief Priest of the Ombatse cult group in Lakyo, Nasarawa South Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Ala Agu, on Wednesday said that security men that invaded the community were ordered by the state governor, Alhaji Tanko Al- Makura, to kill him. The 76-year-old Agu, popularly called Baba Lakyo, spoke with journalists on Wednesday at Lakyo during a visit of Senator Solomon Ewuga (Nasarawa North Senatorial District) to the community. The chief priest, who spoke through an interpreter, said the security operatives did not come to arrest him, but to kill him "and cut off my head and take it to the governor." "It is the governor that asked the people (police officers) to come here and arrest me, cut my head and take my head to him. "When they came, because they were themselves drunk, my god did not allow them to come to me and they died on the way. "The question I asked is, 'has the governor ever invited me and I refused to go?' If am invited, I will go. But he sent people to come and kill me and to destroy Lakyo as a whole. That is just what it is." Al-Makura had rushed to the Presidential Villa, Abuja on May 8, 2013 to brief Vice-President Nnamadi Sambo on the security situation in the state, saying that 20 policemen were killed in Lakyo by cultists. The governor had said that members of Ombatse laid ambush and killed security agents sent to arrest the members in their shrine. On Wednesday, Baba Lakyo said that he had never been invited by security agencies, contrary to reports that the police invaded the village after he shunned their invitation. The chief priest said that he was willing to honour any invitation either by the governor or the police. Although Lakyo is peaceful, besides the sight of burnt vehicles used by the security men, Agu said he was unhappy with what happened and was apprehensive of what might befall him afterwards. Ewuga toured Lakyo community, and led reporters to the home of Agu, which represents the "shrine" of the Ombatse. Agu however denied ever forcing people to join the group through any initiation or drinking of concoction. "I am grateful for your coming, Senator. I am very, very grateful for your coming. Even if the Senator did not come here, I had intended to go and see him in his house but since he is here, I am very grateful," he told the senator. Agu also said that he was in a nearby village when the incident took place only for him to come back to be informed that the governor sent people to come and kill him. Asked whether the incident had anything to do with the politics of the state, he said, "If you are talking about politics, it does not bother me. I don't even understand Hausa language. Politics is not for me because I am not a politician. Politics is for politicians but I hear that the time for politicking has not even come. "If I ever opened my mouth to force anybody to take oath, God should punish me". He said that Ombatse was an association of Lakyo boys into which nobody was forced to belong. He said he was ready to honour any police invitation but insisted that nobody had invited him. According to him, it is even more saddening that he is being linked to the incident, especially when he knew nothing about what happened to the policemen. But Al-Makura on Wednesday dismissed Agu's claim that he was never invited for any meeting. The governor, who spoke through his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Iliya Aliu, in a telephone interview, said it was on record that the head of the cult group did not honour several invitations extended to him. He said, "It is not true that he was never invited. The Emir of Lafia who is the Chairman of the Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs invited him, he refused to honour it. "Are Eggon, who is the chief of his area invited him, he refused; the Police, the SSS all invited him before this incident but he refused to honour any of them. "His followers attacked and killed people in Asakiyo Alago; they went to Arga Migili, Kwadere and did the same. "No responsible government will sit by and watch such things happen without taking action. "It was after he refused to answer all of these invitations that the state security council met and decided that he should be arrested. "Even their name, Ombatse, means it is our turn. Their turn for what? "In any case, no matter the grievance, no individual or group has the right to kill innocent security officials. "He and all those responsible must face the consequence of their action." The President of the Egon Cultural Development Association, Mr. Chris Mamman, said the only way to get to the root of what happened at Alakyo was for the Federal Government to set up a judicial commission of inquiry. Ewuga said he decided to tour the affected area as a matter of national responsibility, saying he needed to see things for himself since he is also an Eggon man even though it was not within his senatorial district. She has admitted to struggling to adjust to the changes pregnancy has brought to her body. But as she proudly showed off her bump in a simple bikini Kim Kardashian proved she is finally at ease with her new shape. Looking happy and healthy, her hair in braids and skin barely made up, the seven months' pregnant reality star was a true beauty. Kim was soaking up the sun surrounded by her family on a recent holiday to the Greek islands. Obviously at ease with her body in their company she sunned herself on a bed, sat beside the hottub to chat her to her sisters and took in the scenic surroundings. Kim certainly made the most of her break, wearing three different bikinis - in white, maroon and black. Asked about her pregnancy outfit choices, Kim told Grazia magazine: 'This is how I have always dressed, and right now I'm wearing anything that fits. 'Kourtney warned me that when I got pregnant, people's opinions would be on an all-time high and people would chime in. Now I see what she means!' And asked if she had been able to maintain confidence about her body during her pregnancy, Kim replied: 'No'. Source: http://m.naij.com/news/34878.html

THE woes of the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly,Mr.Otelemaba Dan Amachree and the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr. Tony Okocha, are mounting sequel to their allegation of a plot to kill Governor Rotimi Amaechi. They have been invited by the Police for interrogation on account of the allegation. The Police have already withdrawn his security details and those of Okocha. The duo are Amaechi’s key backers in the struggle for the soul of the Rivers PDP. They had said the withdrawal of their security details was the first step in the alleged plot to destabilise the state and that the withdrawal of the governor’s security details would follow soon. In inviting them, the State Commissioner of Police, Mbu Joseph Mbu, described the plot allegation as a very serious issue. He said contrary to what Mr.Amachree wanted the world to believe, only nine of the 24 policemen were withdrawn and for other areas in need of security beef-up. “The Speaker has raised very serious issues about security threats and about the attempt to assassinate the governor (Rivers), His Excellency and the chief security officer of this state. That is a very serious issue and the speaker of the House of Assembly will be invited and will be interrogated to give more facts and throw light into this information,” Mbu told reporters in Port Harcourt.” He added: “: “He (speaker) has to tell us how the chief executive of this state; he has the paraphernalia of security and why should the director of SSS (State Security Service), the commissioner of police; why should anybody withdraw security from the governor of the state? “The chief of staff to the governor has also made pronouncement to the effect that there are plans to start bombing places, bombing houses. This also has to be investigated. He is invited to the command by the state CID (Criminal Investigation Department). So that he will throw more light on this grave pronouncement. As the chairman of internal security in the state, I will not allow people to make inflammatory statements. “I know we have child abuse. There is police abuse in certain quarters here in Rivers state. Everybody in Government House wants to see himself as a governor. The speaker of Rivers state House of Assembly has 15 personnel from the Special Protection Unit of the Nigeria Police. “As if those men are not enough, he (Speaker) still acquired nine from the mobile police. So, only one person has 24 personnel of the Nigeria police attached to himself. What I did was that the special protection unit, as the name implies, is to protect government officials. “What we try to do is to make sure that every appointee or political office holder gets what he is entitled to. So that we can have enough men to go on patrol. The mobile police force is meant for quelling riots, for insurgency and for highprofile patrol. I was once a commissioner of police in charge of that department. “So, if you withdraw nine men and you still leave 15 men with the Speaker, what else does he want? Does he want to have police personnel like the president of Nigeria?” Amaechee, Okocha and other top Rivers government officials have been critical of Mbu, accusing him of taking sides in the PDP crisis. They want him removed immediately. The stripping of pro- Amaechi government officials of police cover started with the Chairman of Okrika LG council Tamuno Williams shortly after he appeared on Channels Television and spoke on political developments in the state.. Mbu soon withdrew the policemen attached to the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Mrs. Ibim Semenitari, after criticism of the police boss.. Okocha, in his response to the withdrawal of policemen attached to him, said it was aimed at exposing him to danger. However, support came yesterday from the Conference of Nigeria Political Parties (CNPP) Rivers State chapter which pledged its backing for him in the current challenge facing his administration. The opposition party leaders, on a solidarity visit to the Governor in Port Harcourt, expressed worry at “recent increase in security threats as a result of internal problems from one political party.” The CNPP Chairman,Dr. Minaebi Dagogo Jack ,who led the delegation said: “We hear of crisis in the State House of Assembly, we saw women protesting here and there. “We saw youths carrying placards here and there in the state; the electronic and print media carrying stories of threat of all kinds and most recently ‘bomb blast’ within the premises of Obio Akpor Local Government Area. “We are aware, Sir, that you are the leader of the PDP in Rivers State and more importantly the governor of the state and so as partners of progress we deemed it most appropriate to pay you a visit and to state that Rivers State does not belong to one political party alone.’’ Responding, Governor Amaechi thanked the opposition party leaders in the state for their visit and support. He pledged not to disappoint the people of the state. Amaechi described the current political crisis in the state PDP as an act of rascality but said the situation “ can be handled by government and the people.” Source: thenationonlineng.net/new/news/alleged-plot-to-kill-amaechipolice-to-quiz-rivers-speaker/ |

There are conflicting reports emanating from Daura, Katsina State, about the overnight confrontation there between security forces and Boko Haram sect members, with the latest saying that, following an “exceptional display of courage and gallantry,” repelled the armed militants, killing five of them. In an earlier report today, SaharaReporters learned that the confrontation was between soldiers and the militants, with the military suffering three casualties as against 10 for the militants. The soldiers recovered from the militants weapons and money. The latest police statement does not, however, does not mention the involvement of any soldiers in the Thursday night mayhem, nor the recovery of vast sums of money, as if the accounts are of two different cities or battles. “After a long gun battle with the hoodlums, the criminals were over-powered by the Police,” he said. “The exceptional display of courage and gallantry by the Policemen resulted in the death of five (5) of the heavily armed gang and the inflicting of severe injuries on dozens of others who managed to escape with bullet wounds, abandoning their weapons in the process. Weapons and other items recovered by the Police from the gang included: twelve (12) AK-47 rifles, fifteen (15) AK 47 magazines, fifteen (15) Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), as well as two vehicles (a Golf and a Toyota saloon car) used by the hoodlums as operational vehicles.” The Inspector-General of Police, IGP MD Abubakar, has commended the efforts of the Katsina State Police Command for repelling and foiling the criminal attacks, Mba added, and enjoined his men not to relent in their efforts at combating all forms of crime and criminality until the battle against terrorism is won. purpinkx: Air strike ... I'm seeing a bikeWhen your brain refuses to think deep, its better you go for a fish brain... |
Nigeria’s military on Friday attacked Boko Haram Islamist strongholds across the northeast, launching deadly air strikes on insurgent camps, the military said, while residents reported that forces had deployed in border areas to block the militants from fleeing. Several thousand soldiers have spread across three northeastern states where President Goodluck Jonathan imposed a state of emergency after Boko Haram seized territory and declared war against the government. “There have been air strikes since Wednesday,” defence spokesman Brigadier General Chris Olukolade told AFP, specifying that they were continuing Friday. “Every one of their strongholds is under attack,” he said, adding that he believed “there are a lot of casualties,” without providing a figure. The offensive is ongoing in all three states put under emergency decree, including Adamawa and Yobe, but Borno state is expected to see the most intense fighting. Many have warned that there is a risk of high civilian deaths and Nigeria’s military has been accused of massive rights violations in the past, including indiscriminate attacks on civilians. The operation is the largest against Boko Haram since 2009, when soldiers flooded Borno’s capital Maiduguri, killing more than 800 people and forcing the insurgents underground for a year. In the town of Gamburu Ngala on the border with Cameroon in northern Borno, residents said that heavily armed troops and tanks arrived on Wednesday, sealing off previously unmanned border posts. Northeast Nigeria, the epicentre of the Boko Haram insurgency, has porous borders with Cameroon, Chad and Niger, with criminal groups and militants flowing freely between the countries. “Since January the border posts have been abandoned…but now these posts have been taken over by soldiers,” said resident Haruna Garba. Olukolade confirmed that forces had been sent to the region, but would not say whether the borders had been sealed. Reports of Boko Haram’s presence in Cameroon first emerged in February, following the kidnap there of a French family visiting a game park near the Nigerian border. The abduction was claimed by Boko Haram and the family was released in April. Soldiers have surrounded the town of Krenuwa in Marte district, also in northern Borno and one of the areas where Boko Haram has taken power, chased away all government officials and removed Nigerian flags, residents said. Abur Kullima told AFP Friday that he fled his home in Krenuwa in fear of the coming assault. He said that after the state of emergency was declared in a national broadcast late Tuesday, Islamist gunmen began moving through the district trying to mobilise people “in preparation to face Nigerian troops.” “I was so scared for my life and my family’s, which led me to decide to leave,” he told AFP from Gamburu Ngala, where he is staying with a friend. Anyone who tries to leave Krenuwa is screened by the soldiers who have encircled the town, he said. Boko Haram has become notorious for blending in with the local population, both in towns and major cities where they have carried out suicide bombings as well as gun and bomb assaults. The group says it is fighting to create an Islamic state in Nigeria’s mainly Muslim north, but its demands have repeatedly shifted. Some believe it has sought closer ties to foreign extremist groups like Al-Qaeda’s North Africa affiliate, but most analysts believe its agenda is primarily domestic. Nigeria is Africa’s top oil producer but the population remains extremely poor and many of Boko Haram’s fighters are believed to be youths radicalised out of frustration with government corruption. The conflict is estimated to have cost 3,600 lives since 2009, including killings by the security forces Source: http://news.naij.com/34360.html

EARLY reports of military operations in the three North-East states under emergency rule, on Thursday, indicated that Nigerian soldiers had recaptured three of the local government areas where insurgents had been in control in northern Borno. The names of the recaptured councils could not be confirmed out of the lot in possession of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram. The areas where the insurgents were said to have been in total control before the military operation launched on Thursday were Marte, Magumeri, Mobbar, Gubio, Guzamala, Abadamin, Kukawa, Kaga, Nganzai and Monguno. Also, the troops reportedly invaded and took over a training camp of the violent Islamic sect, Boko Haram, known as Sambisa on the outskirts of Maiduguri, the Borno State capital, in the early hours of Thursday. Borno as well as Adamawa and Yobe states fell under emergency rule by presidential proclamation on Tuesday. President Goodluck Jonathan said all efforts to bring the violence in the area under control had failed hence the need to use force to force insurgents out of the states, especially Borno where the President said insurgents had taken control of the northern part. A soldier who spoke to one of our correspondents from Maiduguri, on the condition of anonymity, said, "We have succeeded in taking over Sambisa Games Reserve, which the sect had been using as its camp. Scores of people found in the camp were arrested. "We will interrogate them and those who are not members of the sect will be set free. The operation is being carried out in such a way that there is no harassment. The innocent should not be afraid." The source however declined to comment on the number of casualties already recorded and the number of persons arrested. The PUNCH learnt that troops on Thursday shut down almost half of the state as they attacked suspected Boko Haram enclaves. A man who spoke to one of our correspondents on the telephone from Maiduguri narrated that the military operation in the city had disrupted normal life. He said the number of roadblocks had increased and that "farmers are no longer going to the farm, only a few traders are venturing out to the market. "Shop owners who sell provisions are finding it difficult to replenish their stock." The source further explained that even residents of Maiduguri, considered safe were living in fear. This, he explained, was because they feared that the insurgents could sneak into town. The Boko Haram insurgency began in Maiduguri in 2009 and Borno State is seen as the operational base of the sect that has killed at least 2,500 persons in attacks on military and police facilities, drinking joints, worship houses and markets. Director of Defence Information, Brig.- Gen. Chris Olukolade, said in a telephone interview with one of our correspondents that more troops had been deployed in Borno, Adamawa and Yobe. He declined to comment on the number of troops that were billed to participate in the major military operations planned to flush out the insurgents from the area. Olukolade said that it was not strategic to disclose the number of soldiers or security personnel that would be used for the operation. "All I can say is that more soldiers have been deployed today; that I can confirm to you. On the issue of the numbers that are being quoted, they are not from the DHQ. We are not quoting any number. "The operation is continuing satisfactorily. Details will be made available to the public at the appropriate time." Another source in the besieged area said, "We now have more soldiers and weapons than I have ever seen in my life. Although some of them are moving towards the north, some are remaining here in Maiduguri. "I have no idea what is going on in places like Bama, Marte, Magumeri, and Monguno where the Boko Haram people have taken control of some towns and villages. But movement in-and-out of these areas has been restricted." The Nigerian Army on Thursday announced an indefinite dusk-to-dawn curfew in Adamawa State. Public Relations Officer of 23rd Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Yola, Lt. Ja'afaru Nuhu, in a statement on Thursday said the curfew would be between 6 pm and 6 am until further notice. He said, "Sequel to the Presidential declaration of state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states by the President and Commander-in-Chief of the armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Goodluck Jonathan, a 6pm to 6am curfew has been imposed on Adamawa State. "All law-abiding citizens are advised to abide by the curfew," the statement said. There are reports that business and other activities are going on as usual in Yola in spite of the heavy deployment of soldiers and policemen in strategic places. The BBC reports on Thursday indicated that mobile phone networks were not functioning in many parts of North-East states, though the reporter said it was not clear if the situation was related to the current military offensive. The insurgents had previously attacked mobile phone masts in the area in an effort to disrupt communications. The State Commissioner for Information, Mr. Inuwa Bwala, and the Director of Press, Mallam Isa Gusau, could not be reached as of the time of this report. The Muslim Students' Society of Nigeria, Lagos State chapter, on Wednesday said it was not part of any decision on the use of Hijab in Lagos State public schools as claimed by the government. Commissioner for Education, Mrs Olayinka Oladunjoye, was reported in the media to have said the decision not to allow the use of Hijab, except for prayers, was a consensus reached at a meeting chaired by the Commissioner for Home Affairs and Culture Mr Oyinlomo Danmole and attended by stakeholders, including MSSN. However, in a statement by the group's Public Relations Officer, Sulaimon Alamutu, the MSSN said the claim by the government was tantamount to obstructing the course of justice. The group said, "How can MSSN be part of the so- called stakeholders' meeting where the decision on the use of Hijab was taken? This is ridiculous. "How can we be demanding that the right of Muslims to use Hijab in schools be given them and at the same time consent to a 'consensus' that is antithetical to our demand? We were never invited for any meeting at any point in time!" The society said it had dragged the government to the court on the issue. It said, "Justice Oyewole of the State High Court had fixed May 27, 2013 for hearing of our suit. So, we wonder why the commissioner, who we believe, knows the position of the law, would come out to make such irresponsible pronouncement. Her action makes us to question her professional integrity as a lawyer! "We therefore advise governor Babatunde Fashola to caution this woman before she destroy the integrity left in the government." "As we have stated in our previous positions, we will employ all legal and peaceful means to ensure our rights are not denied us. The constitution of Nigeria recognises the right to use Hijab in schools and nobody can take it away from us." The Action Congress of Nigeria has advised the National Assembly to reject President Goodluck Jonathan's declaration of a state of emergency in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states. The opposition party, in a statement in Abuja on Wednesday by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, described the President's decision as "lacking in original thinking." It said the Boko Haram crisis would have ended a long time ago if the use of force was capable of ending it. "We hereby reject the declaration of emergency rule in the three states of Adamawa, Borno and Yobe, and we call on the National Assembly to also reject it and not allow itself to be used to rubber-stamp a declaration that is largely cosmetic," the ACN stated. One of ACN's partners in the merger deal, the Congress for Progressive Change, had on Tuesday hailed the emergency rule declared in the three states by Jonathan and asked for support for the measure. National Publicity of the CPC, Rotimi Fashakin, shortly after the proclamation, said, "We need to rally round the President in this trying period. We pray that with this action, peace will eventually return to the states. "However, it is gratifying that the President did not behave like a former President who removed the political structures when he declared a state of emergency in some states. "The action of President Jonathan has shown that the choice made by the people through the ballot would not be denied them. May God help our country." The ACN said while the President was right in expressing outrage over the killings and wanton destruction by the insurgents, he was wrong in proposing the same measures that had failed to yield results. It asked, ''If the medicine given to a patient has not cured his or her illness, is it not futile to prescribe more of the same medicine for the patient? "If the declaration of a state of emergency in 15 local government areas in four states in 2011 has not curbed the activities of the insurgents, why extend such measure to other areas? "If the use of force in the affected states has failed to curtail the activities of the insurgents, why send in more troops?" The party said that there was nothing new in the President's action, adding that it involved deployment of more troops in the affected states and the use of "tougher, scorched-earth tactics against the insurgents." It further said, "The President should go ahead and disband the committee he recently inaugurated and saddled with reaching out to the insurgents, because by opting to flood the states with more troops under an ill-advised emergency rule, he has succeeded in pulling the carpet from under the committee's feet. Who negotiates genuinely with a gun to his head? The committee's job is over; the members can as well pack up and go home." The party said that it hoped that the President's action was not linked to the politics of 2015. It stated, "With the three states militarised, there can neither be electioneering nor voting there. We had warned earlier that as 2015 approaches, the Jonathan administration will increasingly take measures that will make it impossible to hold election in many states. "The over militarisation of some states in the north, the plan to destabilise the South-West, using slush funds from the so-called oil pipeline protection contract and the infantile threats from some Niger Delta militants seem to be part of this plan." It wondered what the President would do if the declaration of emergency rule failed to stem the violence. But the Peoples Democratic Party accused the ACN and others in the opposition as being behind the insurgents in the country. The ruling party, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, in Abuja on Wednesday, wondered why the ACN would condemn the state of emergency declared in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states by the President. Metuh said that the ACN had thought that the President would also remove the governors of the affected states. The statement read, "Few things are possible. The ACN and their cohorts in the opposition are behind insurgents and therefore must subvert every measure taken by government to tackle escalating insurgency. "We recall that the opposition boasted recently that they would end the Boko Haram scourge within two months of their presidency. There is no smoke without fire." He described the reaction of the ACN to the declaration of state of emergency as that of a political party speaking from either "a diseased or confused state of mind: a blackmailer who doesn't mind doing the trifle to remain relevant, or a political party actively conniving at this mindless war on Nigeria." "Yesterday, the ACN, the sole repository of Solomonic wisdom, who was against amnesty to insurgents, who indeed described the Federal Government in unprintable words has today turned a proselyte of amnesty and dialogue," he added. He alleged that the statements of the leaders of the opposition on the eve of 2011 presidential election gave birth to violence which he said had snowballed into terrorism. "We therefore call on the leaders of the opposition to remove the mask on their faces and publicly declare their stance," Metuh said. A former Minority Leader in the House of Representatives, Mr. AdamuAliyu, said the President was playing politics with people's lives. Although he described the state of emergency as a right step in the right direction, he, however faulted the inclusion of Adamawa State. "It is a good step in the right direction. But Mr. President is playing politics with people's lives. If he did not impose state of emergency in Plateau, I can see the hand of the National Chairman of the PDP in the state of emergency in Adamawa State. "If he did not declare the state of emergency in a state where policemen were killed and he declared it in Adamawa, the whole exercise is political." The Christian Association Nigeria called for the sack of the Presidential Committee on Dialogue and Peaceful Resolution of Security Challenges in the North. The association's President, Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor, made the call in Abuja in a statement by his Special Assistant (Media and Public Affairs), Mr. Kenny Ashaka. Oritsejafor, who was commenting on the state of emergency declared in Borno, Yobe and Adamawa states commended the President for the decision. He, however, called for the dissolution of the presidential committee, which had been saddled with the responsibility of entering into dialogue with the Boko Haram insurgents. The CAN president said the committee was "no longer relevant." Source: mobile.punchng.com/output.php?link=http://www.punchng.com/news/reject-emergency-rule-acn-urges-nassembly/ |

By SaharaReporters, New York The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) has expressed strong opposition plans by the presidency to declare a State of emergency in three states: Borno, Yobe and Nasarawa, which have been embroiled waves of violence in recent times, declaring that such an action would be the wrong response. In a statement signed by Rotimi Fashakin, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, CPC said today that instead, the President, as the Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), should consult within his Party for the panacea to Nigeria’s security nightmare. Condemning in strong terms the “orgies of violence” in the three States and commiserating with the families and servicemen and women that have been affected by it, CPC questioned what an emergency administrator will hope to achieve given the present scenario of militarization in the states. “Should this not be interpreted as another knee- jerk response of this administration to situations that require out-of-the-box thinking?” the statement asked. “Is this approach not to be interpreted as a pre-meditated consequence of ineptitude of this regime?” Recalling that the late former National Security Adviser, General Andrew Owoye Azazi, had alerted the nation about the politics of the PDP being the locus of the insecurity in Nigeria, CPC asked: “What did the Federal Government do to stymie the odiousness of the politics of the ruling party other than merely sacking the messenger?” The party also pointed out a “dangerous trend”: that the states mainly embroiled in ongoing insecurity are “mainly non-PDP states which further fuels the notion that these insurgencies are purposely orchestrated to create the ambience for the declaration of emergency rule in the states.” In an unprecedented speech at the South-South Economic Summit in Asaba in April 2012, Azazi blamed the escalating insecurity in the country, particularly the growing activities of Boko Haram, on “undemocratic practices” by the political parties, especially the PDP. “The issue of violence did not increase in Nigeria until when there was a declaration by President Goodluck Jonathan that he was going to contest,” he said. “PDP got it wrong from the beginning. The party started by saying Mr. A can rule, and Mr. B cannot rule, according to PDP conventions, rules and regulations and not according to the constitution. That created the climate for what is happening or manifesting itself in country.” Azazi was killed in a helicopter crash in December 2012.
