Nigerian military commanders in 2 states both claim killing senior Islamic extremist commander MAIDUGURI, Nigeria – Military commanders in two neighboring states in northeastern Nigeria both claim to have killed the second-in-command of the Boko Haram Islamic terror network. Neither produced any evidence. Joint Task Force spokesman Lt. Col. Sagir Musa told reporters Wednesday that security forces killed Momodu Bama in Bama town of Borno state. Earlier Wednesday Adamawa state Joint Task Force commander Lt. Col. Beyidi Marcus Martins announced his troops killed Bama in a four-hour shootout at an extremist hideout in Mubi, 180 kilometers (112 miles) south of Bama. The man said to be No. 2 to Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau also is called Mohammed Bama and had a bounty of $156,250 on his head.
