Jethrolite: I really wish you guys the best with finding one. I really do. I'm not even looking at this as a 'money making venture' I am just tired of the exploitation by Nigerian banks...thing like things won't happen in UK, American or as my brother is fond of saying, 'even in Bangladesh' Hoping the mods would move this to the front page and we'll get enough traffic to get things moving. If it comes to the issue of legal fees, even if there is no bro Bono offers, GTBANK can be made to pay our legal fees, if nothing else. If this were any other country but our beloved Nigeria, even if the charges are going to be reviewed, the bank would notify affected customers and even plead with you and then offer you some sort of compensation or reward program and if you do refuse, case closed. They'll bear the losses. |

toluxa1: This was a deliberate deceit and ploy by GTB to steal from their customers. After a steep decline in people using their card, they deliberately targeted a weekend to make this stunt, knowing that full deduction will not be made till the next business day and by then word will spread and more people will use their cards. I have a recording of the call I put through to GTBank customer care and the later said their current rate is 199. We should not let this go! About two of my friends in the UK made ATM withdrawals at $278/£, this morning they have cleared their accounts too.
Cc lalasticlala @Toluxa1: good you have a recording. We can certainly use that. Please join us on the thread below: https://www.nairaland.com/2963306/class-action-suit-against-gtbank |

frebor: Na waa o... E just tire me as I dey read all these N199/N299 GTB wahala.
Human beings are wired to complain only in the state of loss and we easily forget the good things that we experienced. It's pathetic that it's engrained in all aspects of our life, I can't stop wondering why a relationship fails because of a forgivable wrongdoing.
Most of us were happy when we got refunds at an higher rate but will be quick to copy CBN when we are shortchanged. We lack a moral standing, I feign at the excuse that we have always been cheated by the banks and it was time to reap back our benefits too.
I bet some people will cancel those N199 orders and get the refunds back at N299. It's ok, who no like free money, that's what we say.
I was tempted to buy stuffs but since I knew the rates are ever dynamic, one magic go happen at the end of the day. It's funny that some even said GTB can't post a negative balance to their accounts, I laughed hard when I started seeing screenahots of negative balances.
Abandon your account, yes, that's the way to go but remember you can be easily traced with KYC details and BVN, you're just so culpable.
Someone on another thread sometimes ago had a Ecobank account which he stopped using for a long time, charges had accrued to the account Ecobank style. He was going to apply for a loan in another bank but was told he owed another bank money, he had to go settle his bills and properly close the account before his loan was processed.
So the consequences of our today is based on the actions and inactions of our yesterday. Karma is a bi*ch right? It beats my imagination when we are clamoring for change but we are not ready to change ourselves.
Before you quote me with mentions and stuff, I'm with everyone who wants these banks to be accountable for every kobo they have taken illicitly. We need a sanitation of the system, a total overhaul. I'll join any class action suit with tenable evidence against these banks, and I believe our voice will be heard
Are we ready? Yes we are. Pls sign up at: https://www.nairaland.com/2963306/class-action-suit-against-gtbank |

Business › Class Action Suit Against Gtbank For Misleading 199/$ Card Charges by bdavis(op): 1:48pm On Feb 29, 2016 |
Over the course of the weekend, it was noticed that for whatever reason, albeit yet unknown and undisclosed GTBANK decided to charge @ 199 naira per dollar exchange rate for online international transactions, and said funds were put on hold in various accounts of those who transacted business at the time.
However, without any form of warning, notice or alert to customers GTBANK on Monday 29th of February, being today, decided to upgrade all those 199/$ transactions to 299/$ and debited , as such, leaving a lot of accoun in negative, and those that are not in negative, had monies deducted beyond their expectations and beyond the initial transaction notice.
I am calling on all those affected to sign up here and let's institute a class action suit against GTBANK for such unscrupulous and frivolous practices.
Do I really need to do this? The answer is No, I could easily send an email to GTBANK, and cc the CBN consumer protection department and the get my negative balance of 16k+ reversed, but I am tired and fed up with the careless and nonchalant attitude of Nigerian banks towards their customers who keep them in business. They hit us with all sorts of frivolous charges and we take it lying low and it's business a usual.
It's high time a stop is put to such nonsense! Please join me and let's tell them we won't take it no more. We keep them in business, we deserve to be treated with respect and dignity, if nothing else. |

Ymodulus: They will. They don't care about you.
AccessBank did it and the company legalwealth talked about did it.
So it's not new. You can go against the bank because the system supports their act.
When they come back for you, your account might get into negative balance if funds available as at them is not enough. Let them go ahead and try! I'll start a thread on NL, calling for all those affected to sign up and join in a class action suit against GTBANK...we send dem message? |

slim49z: All those banks are thiefing bastards. I did 197/$ last month though. I've never done it@ 197...there is always bank charges involved and by the time you factor those in, it usually boils down to about 220/$ give or take. Unless you are not factoring in the charges/commissions. I still have the transaction slips as proof o |

slim49z: Western union rate is the official CBN rate, which is around 197 right now. Nope, not really, the banks are doing 260/$ for western union right now...that is if your are lucky enough to get a bank that would do it and if your are lucky enough to meet the cut off line. There is usually a very long waiting list and the max you can do is $970 (well actually they say $1k) per quarter, but na $970 dem go do for you and refund ur change. |
