Based on your comments with fake likes, I don't think you are a Nigerian or even living in Nigeria.... @helinues are you productive? Fuel price is now over N1500 per litre.... helinues: |
After the August nationwide protest failed, many Nigerians especially some users of this Nairaland website, made fun of the protesters labeling them Obidient wailers and unserious for trying to push for reversal of bad economic policies. It was sadly shameful to read comments made by some Nigerians in this website abusing and calling protesters unprintable names as their only offence was that they tried to speak out and hold the government accountable. This is why on several occasions I've made posts in defence of protesters and how Nigerians can change their current situation by capitalising on these protests to demand for several political and economic structural reforms that will benefit everyone in the long run (Some of these reforms I listed in a previous thread titled "Why Nigerians Must Support October Nationwide Protest"). Sadly, even in the midst of extreme economic burden, many Nigerians are still bent on pushing their selfish and tribalistic sentiments as you can see many people in different social media websites making negative posts, discouraging other Nigerians from supporting or joining the upcoming October peaceful protest. For those Nigerians that are not swayed by media propaganda and have decided to join the protest, it is glaringly unfortunate that this callous government will not respect their rights or listen to their demands. There is no indication that Tinubu will take a different approach to handling this protest. Since the August nationwide protests, Tinubu's government has overtime intensified its crackdown on human rights activists such as Sowore and the NLC President. They even attacked NGOs like SERAP for supporting protesters. This government has shown severally a deep intolerance to public dissent, so I will not be surprised if they authorise police and soldiers to shot protesters just like they did during the August nationwide protest. It is unfortunate that the government pretends to be democratic when it is not.... Many Nigerians are angry over the government's failures as the frustrations that fuelled the August #EndBadGovernance protests persist. Tinubu and his political cronies continue to deceive Nigerians paying lip service to understanding their grievances. He has on several occasions advocated for Nigerians to patiently bear the economic burden while he continues to spend taxpayer funds recklessly, frequently embarking on extravagant foreign trips accompanied by large entourage, with no benefits felt by Nigerians. Borrowing carelessly and spending lavishly. The recent purchase of a presidential yacht and plane is just as wasteful, especially when citizens are struggling to afford the barest necessities. Given these fundamental differences in viewpoints by Tinubu when it comes to cutting down costs, it is certain that he will not yield to the demands of protesters. This is why the government has gone to great lengths to suppress the protests, infringing on protesters’ human rights. From obtaining court orders to limit the protests’ scope to the unlawful arrests and prosecution of protesters for charges as serious as treason. It is indeed embarrassing that this government violates without shame the constitutionally guaranteed rights of Nigerians to peacefully assemble, associate, and express themselves. Another issue is the judiciary, which was once regarded as the ‘Last Hope of the Common Man,’ being used by Tinubu as a weapon against the people. It is absurd that peaceful protesters were arrested and charged with crimes like treason. Equally troubling is the fact that some judges are imposing extreme and excessive bail conditions, rather than dismissing these baseless charges. It is also disturbing that some of the arrested protesters are children who have no business being detained. Based on how shameless Tinubu and his government have subverted the law, it will be foolish to think that this government will organise a fair election in 2027. Nigerians who are saying that they will wait to vote the APC government out in 2027 are either stupid or naive as the 2027 presidential election rigging process has already started. With the increase in fuel price and rapid devaluation of the naira, it is no longer a hidden secret that Tinubu and his government have no clue on how to manage this country's economy. Prices of goods, services, transportation, insecurity and unemployment continues to rise as nothing is spared from the harsh economic climate. It is certain that if Nigerians fail to troop out in mass on October 1 to protest against what is happening, nothing will change as a low turn out will mean that many Nigerians are happy with the callous government. This will embolden Tinubu to implement harsher economic policies to continue the vicious cycle..... To achieve sustainable national progress, Nigerians must let go of their fears, their selfish tribal, religious biases and unite to hold the evil government accountable. The October nationwide peaceful protest will be another opportunity for Nigerians to liberate themselves from the shackles of oppression, injustice, corruption and shame. I hope Nigerians will see the need to fight for a better future that will benefit everyone before it is too late.... |
Organisers of the #FearlessOctober1 protest have declared that the police, Department of State Services, and the military would not stop them from embarking on the demonstration as planned. The organisers have also written to the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to request security during the demonstration, noting that protest is a fundamental right they would not submit to any state agent. Nigeria will celebrate its 64th independence on Tuesday, October 1, the day some Nigerian youths have taken to protest the hardship occasioned by the removal of fuel subsidy and the devaluation of the naira. The National Coordinator of the Take It Back Movement, Juwon Sanyaolu, and Director of Mobilisation of the group, Damilare Adenola, said mobilisation efforts had begun, adding that Nigerians were mobilising from different parts of the country for the protest. We have also written to the Inspector General of Police, informing him of our protest locations and reminding him of the constitutional duty of the police to protect protesters as opposed to the repression we have witnessed in times past,” said Sanyaolu. The group explained that the FCT protest would be held at the Eagle Square, the same venue of the Independence Day parade, while the Lagos protest would take place at the Ikeja Under Bridge. The organisers noted that the protest would be across the country, adding that only ‘immediate reversal of fuel subsidy removal’ would dissuade them from the demonstration. The IG, Egbetokun, had directed the Force zonal and state commands to deploy men from Monday to strategic locations until a stand-down order was given. Egbetokun also directed that the policemen should dress in camouflage with hats, even as he asked the Assistant Inspectors General of Police and Commissioners of Police to engage and discourage available civil society groups and individuals from participating in the protest. We are not afraid – Sowore, Adeyanju However, a leader of the protest, Omoyele Sowore, said the youth were not afraid of the police, adding that the protest would hold as planned. Sowore explained that the reported fear of some people about the possibility of violence during the protest was not true. “Nobody has expressed to us or anyone that they’re afraid because they know we are not violent protesters; maybe you should ask that of the government,” he added. Lawyer to the organisers, Deji Adeyanju, said it was wrong for the police to summon protesters who were exercising their right. The police do not have the right to summon protesters like they are currently doing. It is the responsibility of the police to protect the protesters anytime they embark on a demonstration. The protesters are not political parties; security agencies should not harass them,” he stated. The counsel noted that the crackdown on #EndBadGovernance protesters in August was to discourage people from participating in further demonstrations in the country. He, however, said the arrest and detention of some of the demonstrators would not deter youths from joining the #FearlessOctober1 protest. Adeyanju said, “The government plans to discourage people from coming out to protest; that is why they are still detaining our comrades who participated in the August protest. But that will not dampen the morale of the youths on the #FearlessOctober protest.” Eight groups to join Lagos protest On his part, Adenola said the organisers would not be deterred by the deployment of security agencies. He added that the #FearlessOctober1 demonstration was a continuation of the #Endbadgovernance protest, which took place in August, adding that the demonstration was necessitated by the failure of the Federal Government to address their demands. He listed some of their demands to include the reversal of the subsidy removal policy, amendment of the constitution, overhauling of the legislature, and the unconditional release of protesters in police custody. Adenola said, “We are unperturbed by the threats issued by security agencies. What we have seen so far is that they (security agencies) don’t respect the rights of protesters; they may end up instigating violence against protesters. “But we will keep warning them to ensure that they respect people’s right to express their grievances as guaranteed by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “We are also using this opportunity to call on the Nigerian people to come out unafraid and express their grievances. When we have enough protesters on the ground, the police and other security agencies will dare not harass them. “People are experiencing hardship, and the government is telling them not to protest. It is just natural; people have to speak up against this hardship inflicted by President Bola Tinubu’s government,” Adenola said. Speaking with Sunday PUNCH, the Secretary of the Democratic Socialist Movement, Peluola Adewale, said no harassment or intimidation from any security agencies would stop the protest, disclosing that about eight civil society groups would participate in the demonstration in Lagos State. He warned the government against sponsoring hoodlums to infiltrate genuine protesters during the protests, stating that the demonstration would be peaceful in Lagos. “We cannot rule out the fact that the government can sponsor violence to discredit the protest, but we want to warn them against that. People should not be deprived of their freedom of expression and assembly. Protest is our fundamental right, and we cannot surrender it to the police or anyone. We are not afraid of the police, DSS, or military,” he added. Another leader of the protesters, Taiwo Hassan, said Nigerians had the right to freedom of expression and lawful assembly. He said, “We are never going to submit our rights. Yes, you know many people might be afraid of what will happen if they are shot or what happens if they are arrested. But increasingly as people are thinking of that, people are also realising that our condition in this country is one between the devil and the deep blue sea. If you come out to protest, yes, maybe there is a chance that you might be arrested or you might be killed. “But people also realize that even when you stay at home and don’t come out to protest, it doesn’t mean your life will be safe. Hunger is killing people right there in their bedroom. People are committing suicide and the state of insecurity means that none of us is safe.” Police assure Katsina protesters Meanwhile, the Katsina State Police Command has said it had implemented measures to ensure the planned nationwide protest does not descend into chaos. The state Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq, on Saturday, said the command had mobilised both human and intelligence resources to guarantee safety before, during, and after the protest. Sadiq said, “We have taken proactive measures to ensure public safety and security. Adequate personnel have been deployed to prevent any breakdown of law and order, with enhanced intelligence gathering, surveillance, and patrols across the state. “While we recognise the rights of citizens to protest, we urge protesters to exercise these rights responsibly and within the framework of the law.” https://punchng.com/october-1-protest-will-hold-at-eagle-square-organisers-tell-police/ |
It is time to say enough is enough.... I will once again implore Nigerians to suppport this protest.... |

Restructuring is one of the demands of this protest..... I see no reason why you can not join the protest if you agree with me that Nigeria should be totally restructured.... Lipscomb: |

Sowore is right as Tinubu and his government have failed to respect the right of Nigerians to peaceful protests by kidnapping protesters..... There is no going back on this struggle until we win.... I will once implore Nigerians to support this nationwide protest.... |
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5JsKYWBT-nA How can we endeavor to know, and not just believe, the true shape of the Earth? |
I've always supported Sowore, you can read my post before 2023 elections here https://www.nairaland.com/7578573/take-tinubu-atiku-obi-sowore XerXers: |
Even though I don't believe in elections Sowore was my choice as far back as 2023 when the 4 candidates emerged. Sowore is not perfect but he has demonstrated over and over again how deeply he loves Nigerians through his actions and sacrifice.... He was the only candidate that was against fuel subsidy removal..... Obi may mean well but he does not have the lion heart to confront the evil political forces holding Nigeria hostage.... |
You are back again with your propaganda I still remember how you were all over this forum especially on threads that has to do with fuel subsidy removal, how you kept pushing for the removal of fuel subsidy..... You are not satisfied, you now want subsidy to be removed on electricity to kill more Nigerians.... You will never demand accountability from the government or champion it's course as it is glaring you derive joy in the crisis that has engulfed Nigeria's economy already and want it's total destruction by pushing for the removal of all energy subsidies.... Callous! nairalanda1: |
Okpebholo can not give what he doesn't have... As long as god-fatherism is exists, he can't deliver good governance to the Edo people. ... Macnnoli4: |
You've raised some valid painful points.... What it means is that the educated Nigerians that are mainly part of the middle class who genuinely want the situation to change for the better have a lot of work to do.... There are so many Nigerians on different social media websites castigating the government daily, they know better than those in the villages and towns who sell their votes to help these evil politicians rig elections.... If these Nigerians especially the youthful educated population who use these social media websites can leave the cyberspace to sensitize and mobilise the illiterate majority who are offline, who dont use Internet or know what is happening I believe that the revolution will be possible.... Nigeria will be saved not by the illiterate majority but by the highly educated minority who are determined to do whatever it takes to stop the injustice, corruption and political lawlessness.... My earlier prediction that APC will win the election doesn't mean that I am happy with the outcome.... In fact I am still puzzled by the massive votes they got.... I do believe that APC's victory was due to systemic rigging and massive vote buying..... Is that something anyone should be proud of or happy about....? yarimo: |
How was the election that produced someone who said he will provide insecurity fair? How can APC win an election any state after mismanging Nigeria's economy.....? Mind you I did not support any candidate in that election.... yarimo: |
Lol I did not say I am a prophet, I've been a proponent for the total restructuring of Nigeria even before 2023 elections.... I've been in support of peaceful protests that will facilitate the liberation of our people from this vicious cycle of injustice and retrogression they have been going through since 1999.... it is glaring that Nigeria is fast becoming a failed state.... Saving this country will not be through elections but a national movement that will force these evil politicians out of power..... Rebelutionary: |
It is too late for that now as APC have perfected their nationwide election rigging and vote buying network.... the only way out for Nigerians is to overhaul and reset the system.... christejames: |
I had predicted earlier that APC will win Edo governorship election through a systematic rigging process in a previous thread only to be attacked by some APC agents in this forum posting malicious comments with fake likes on my thread to derail readers.... It is funny as I wonder how some Nigerians still think that they can get a fair election after what transpired in the 2023 presidential election with Mahmood Yakubu still serving as the INEC chairman.... It is indeed shameful that after all the terrible policies made by APC government that destroyed Nigeria's economy, the party still won in the just concluded governorship election.... I doubt the results but if the outcome of this election is truly the wish of the Edo people then it means Nigeria may be irredeemable as I can not comprehend the motive behind the massive votes for APC.... I will once again appeal to Nigerians not to place their hopes in the 2027 elections to vote out APC as nothing will change, the 2027 election results will be similar to what you see today in Edo governorship election, the systemic rigging and vote buying will guarantee another massive victory for APC.... If Nigerians are interested in taking back their country from these evil politicians, it is better to start mobilising for the October nationwide peaceful protest to demand for urgent political and economic reforms that will benefit them, some of these reforms I listed in a previous thread titled "Why Nigerians Must Support October Nationwide Protest" With APC victory today, I hope more Nigerians will finally realise that this current democracy is a mirage and no genuine progress can be made by participating in these sham elections until Nigeria is totally restructured and political powers decentralised.... |
Just as I predicted that APC will win the election if Obaseki fails to use incumbency powers.... I hope Nigerians will finally realise that this current democracy is sham and no progress can be made by participating in these elections until Nigeria is restructured and political powers decentralised.... |
I hope Nigerians will finally realise that this current democracy is sham and no progress can be made by participating in these elections until Nigeria is restructured and political powers decentralised.... |
This is how they will sing in 2027..... I hope Nigerians will finally realise that this current democracy is sham and no progress can be made by participating in these elections until Nigeria is restructured and political powers decentralised.... |
Just as I predicted that APC will win Edo governorship election if Obaseki fail to use incumbency power.... I hope Nigerians will finally realise that this current democracy is sham and no progress can be made by participating in these elections until Nigeria is restructured and political powers decentralised.... |
It is obvious that all of you posting negative comments on my thread with fake likes are APC agents.... you guys are not tired of bad governance.... The INEC systemic rigging will continue till 2027, nothing will change if Nigerians fold their hands and do nothing believing that they can vote out APC in 2027..... It is a shame that APC got a single vote in Edo governorship election..... |
What is the GDP and exchange rate of those countries currency when compared to Nigeria? obonujoker: |
You are buying fuel at N1000 per litre, massive job losses, manufacturers and businesses shutting down... is that your definition of good economic policy? Keep deceiving yourself.... AmalaAtiEwedu: |
I am appealing to Nigerians once again to begin to mobilize for the October nationwide peaceful protest to demand for changes that they want for this country instead of waiting for 2027 elections thinking that they can vote out APC as I said in my previous thread that it is foolish to vote when you know deep down that your votes won't count, it won't change anything.... Before the Edo governorship election, many people in this forum were rooting for Labour Party's candidate Olumide Akpata as been the favourite to win and refused to see reality that he won't win because of massive corruption and rigging that has taken root in our electoral system..... I had warned Nigerians severally that as long as Tinubu is in power and Mahmoud is INEC chairman, there will hardly be a fair presidential or governorship election going forward....this is evident today with what is happening already over the results announced so far for the Edo governorship election.... There is an urgent need for political structural reforms that will guarantee equal representation of all Nigerians within the 6 geopolitical zones, these reforms I had listed in my previous thread titled "Why Nigerians Must Support October Nationwide Protest"..... Until Nigerians decide to let go of tribalism, religious bigotry, corruption, selfishness and lies to tell themselves the truth that as a nation no genuine progress can be made in this current system of governance we are running, we will continue to go round in cycles, wasting time doing the same thing and expecting a different result..... It is glaring that if Obaseki fails to use his incumbent powers to install the PDP candidate as governor, APC will win Edo 2024 governor election.... |
I've nothing to gain or nurture any desire to see people killed for protesting for a better future.... If the bad government choose to kill peaceful protesters instead of listening to them, the government should be held responsible as peaceful protest is a fundamental right of all Nigerians.... HellVictorinho8: |
Lol you're funny.... I know most times the truth hurts, it is not sweet but we must tell ourselves the truth so that we can move forward as we may not have a country by 2027 if what is happening now is allowed to continue..... You're glaringly callous for saying I should be kidnapped just because I choose to take a stand that you do not agree with.... If you believe in seating and doing nothing till 2027 while people are been killed and your country destroyed that's fine but it is foolish to think that such action will make the evil APC government to change it's ways overtime and grant you a free and fair election that will make your "P.DIDDY" president..... Let's assume Nigeria's economy survives these harsh terrible policies till 2027, Tinubu and his APC rigging government will not give Nigerians a fair presidential election to vote them out of power easily.... This is why I do not share in your sentiments.... I believe that for Nigeria to make genuine progress in this current situation, hard deliberate actions must be made by the people.... You are only wasting your time if you think under this government that the 2027 presidential election will be free and fair.... it is naive to think that it won't be rigged and manipulated just like the 2023 presidential election.... HellVictorinho8: |
You are free to rain insults but whether you like it or not, the truth can not be wished away or hidden forever.... Nigerians must choose what kind of future they want for the country.... favor914: |
