......No Crack In Our Group, NDA

*IPDI blames MEND, urges NDA to list preliminary conditions for dialogue

THE Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, this morning, responded to a reported split of the group, saying it was untrue.

The militant group in a retort at 8.21 am to Vanguard inquiry, said: “The NDA is too busy at the moment to be distracted by people like Jude Kekyll, he is not part of us and cannot be part of us. All our operatives are united and we are all together.”

A group, Reformed Niger Delta Avengers, RNDA, broke out of the Niger Delta Avengers, NDA, on Friday, and threatened to expose the identities of NDA fighters and their sponsors if the militant group does not stop bombing of pipelines.

The breakaway faction in a statement by Cynthia Whyte, said it dumped the NDA because of the recent personal appeal of former President Goodluck Jonathan, peace efforts of the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, guilt feelings over the damage wrecked on the environment and President Muhammadu Buhari’s demonstrated political will to clean up the environment.

“We have decided to join the MEND Aaron Team 2 peace initiative through the clearing house of Niger Delta Dialogue and Contact Group (NDDCG) headed by HRH King Alfred Diette-Spiff,” the group said.

It asserted: “We will also cooperate with the government by exposing the identities of our comrades, who remain stubborn in their insistence to continue attacks. For example, it will shock the nation to know the Jekyll and Hyde personality behind the pseudonym ‘Brigadier General Murdoch Agbinibo’ and our sponsors.”

NDA should table conditions for dialogue
Meanwhile, the Ijaw People Development Initiative, IPDI, yesterday, urged NDA to come out with its preliminary conditions for dialogue just as it condemned the threat by the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, MEND, to join forces with government to deal with the militant group.

IPDI in a statement by the national president, Austin Ozobo, said: “Our attention has been drawn to the preliminary conditions for dialogue and purported threat to smoke out Niger Delta Avengers ,NDA, by the defunct Movement For the Emancipation of Niger Delta, MEND, if NDA fails to embrace the proposed dialogue with federal government.”

“Our preliminary study of the above shows that MEND preliminary conditions and threat to join government to smoke out NDA if they fail to embrace dialogue falls below expectation.

“It is a plot to rob the region of their genuine struggle as they failed to draw all inclusive preliminary demands such as immediate commencement of the Nigerian Maritime University, Okerenkoko, reopening of NIMASA Technical College, Okoloba, Delta state and acceptance to conduct referendum.

“It did also include release of alleged NDA members, including Oporoza 10 youths, agreement not to harass and arrest members of NDA if they come out, seizure of further military operations and arrests pending the final resolution of the dialogue, agreement to revoke oil blocs and greement to implement Niger Delta Development blue print ,” it said.

IPDI asserted: “Though, we are not against the release of Henry Okah, Charles Okah, Edmund Ebiware, and others but since they were not arrested in active struggle, it is wrong to have use their release as a preliminary conditions to begin dialogue of Niger Delta demands of resource control and self-determination.”

“If MEND is not fighting for its affairs, why did it fail to include revitalization of seaports in Niger Delta and relocation of headquarters of oil companies to the region?

“It is also wrong for MEND to threaten to join force with Nigeria military to fish or smoke out Niger Delta Avengers if they fail to yield to its line of dialogue. This exposes the shallow interest of miscreants under the banner of defunct MEND,” it added.

“This further shows that they are mostly interested on the release of their members, who are currently undergoing detention. MEND definition of the current struggle is an attempt to undermine the evergreen struggle for better Niger Delta region. It is an attempt to hijack the efforts of NDA to free their members arrested on issues not connected with the struggle.

“Why MEND decided to condemn NDA to the firing squad and exonerate their members who were arrested and detained on account of their personal deals and why it feels that they are better than NDA members beat imagination. How did MEND expect genuine people and NDA to queue behind their self-centered preliminary conditions for dialogue when such preliminary demands do not guarantee the future of the region? The group stated.

It added: “MEND should review its preliminary conditions for the proposed dialogue, one thing MEND should understand is that government may decide to accept their shallow and selfish preliminary conditions, but what would they do if government fails to agree on the real demands of the region on the course of the dialogue.”

“MEND is doing another injustice to the region. You do not just make demands, you must consult resources persons, you must consider tomorrow when making preliminary demands. MEND preliminary conditions fall short of expectation and it does not represent the general interest of Niger Delta people,” IPDI said.

Politics › Relief Materials For IDPs In Taraba Missing by BeeBeeOoh(op): 1:09pm On Aug 06, 2016
A full truck of relief materials sent to Taraba state for distribution to the Internal Displaced Persons IDPs by President Muhamadu Buhari have been declared missing by the permanent secretary Taraba state Emergency Management Agency (SEMA)

The permanent secretary Mr Nuvalga Dan-Habu disclosed this while conducting journalists round the venue where the relief materials were stored for self keeping in Jalingo Taraba state capital.

The Presidential relief materials sent to Taraba state for IDPs have recently generated controversy and war of wards between the minister for women and social development Sen. Aisha Arhasan and Taraba state government when the permanent secretary refused to release the materials to the minister for distribution.

Aisha was in the state to flag off the distribution of the materials to IDPs while on her five days official visit in the state, the state government refused to release materials to her, she also accused the state government of inflicting unnecessary hardship on the IDPs by holding on the materials.

Nuvalga stated that few weeks ago he received a phone call from the National Emergency Management Agency NEMA North East zonal office Gombe, he was informed that twenty (20) trucks of relieve materials (Maize) were been sent by President Muhamadu Buhari for IDPs in Taraba state and the materials were on the way from Abuja to Taraba state.

He said the NEMA zonal office directed that the Taraba state Emergency Agency should take the stock of the materials for self keeping for letter distribution to the IDPs.

Nuvalga further disclosed that a truck of the relieve materials loaded six hundred (600) bags of Maize in each. He stated that instead of the twenty trucks as directed and informed by the Gombe zonal office of NEMA, only nineteen (19) trucks of the materials arrived Jalingo.

He said when the nineteen trucks arrived Jalingo he called the zonal office and informed them of the details of the stuck the Agency received in Jalingo. While stating up till the time of briefing journalist the remaining truck was yet to arrived.

“Instead of receiving 12,000 bags of Maize as we were informed by NEMA, only 11,400 reached us, a truck loaded 600 bags and it was only 19 trucks that reached to us although I informed NEMA promptly on the development”

When asked why the State refused to release the materials to the minister for distribution, the permanent secretary said Sen. Aisha did not follow the Normal procedures on how to get the materials been released to her for distribution to the IDPs.

“When I was contacted that materials were on the way, I briefed my boss who is the governor of Taraba state, who am answerable to, when the minister came into the state she called me, directing me to release the materials to her for onward distribution to IDPs then I told her that NEMA did not direct me to handover the materials to her and she should contact my boss to smoothen the process but she refused

Politics › Court Dismisses Ex-ministers Application To Travel Abroad For Medical Check Up by BeeBeeOoh(op): 3:36pm On Aug 05, 2016
Abuja – An Abuja High Court on Friday dismissed an application by a former minister, Amb. Bashir Yuguda, seeking leave to travel abroad for medical checkup.

Yuguda, a former Minister of State for Finance, is standing trial for alleged diversion of N3.3 billion alongside retired Col. Sambo Dasuki, the former National Security Adviser.

Other accused are Dalhatu Investment Limited as well as Shuibu Salisu, Sagir Attahiru and Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa.

Justice Olukayode Adeniyi dismissed the application on the grounds that it was frivolous and did not have the consent of the sureties.

“The court cannot grant such application without the persons that stood as sureties showing evidence of their consent, ” he said.

Adeniyi also said that the defendant failed to depose to any sufficient facts to enable the court grant his application.

“Therefore the application is dismissed,“ he stated.

Earlier, Yuguda’s counsel, Mr Akin Ayodele, had told the court that he had filed an application on July 19 seeking the court’s leave for the applicant to travel to the United Arab Emirates for medical checkup.

He said that the application was supported by an 11-paragraph affidavit attached with documentary exhibits.

Ayodele said that Exhibit F was the most crucial, adding that it indicated that the court once granted a similar order to the applicant to travel and he returned to continue his trial.

“ We attached also a further affidavit to show his appointment has been rescheduled by the doctor at UAE,’’ he said.

The prosecuting counsel, Henry Ejiga, however, opposed the application, contending that it was an attempt to further delay the trial.

Ejiga said that two hospitals in Nigeria had already conducted the check up and that the results showed that the applicant was okay.

He urged the court not to grant the application.

Although the club executives have probably congratulated the players millions of times, it hasn't stopped just yet. 19 BMWs were today lined up ready for the players to pick up following their Premier League title win. At £100,000 per car, that's a pretty generous gift.

Politics › Soldiers And Villagers Clash In Niger State by BeeBeeOoh(op): 6:05am On Aug 05, 2016
Five people were feared killed in a clash between soldiers and villagers at Kpaidna village near Beji of Bosso local government area of Niger state.

The number of people injured could not be ascertained, but Daily Trust learnt that four vehicles were destroyed while the crisis lasted.
Sources said the incident occurred about 1 am yesterday when the villagers, mistaking the soldiers in an operation for armed Fulani herders, opened fire on them, leading to violent exchanges that led to the death of the five people. An officer and two soldiers are reportedly missing.

Daily Trust learnt that a clash between herders and villagers in Barkuta, a community close to where the current incident happened resulted in the death of villagers recently, while a reprisal led to the demise of three herders.

Both the deputy governor, Ahmed Mohammed Ketso and the commissioner of information, culture and tourism, Jonathan Vatsa, who were on hand to access the situation, were prevented from entering the community.
Vatsa told Daily Trust on phone that he could not get into the village because of strong presence of the military.

The Niger State Police Public Relation Officer Bala Elkana confirmed the incident, saying, “About 1 am we received a report that armed men were attacking Kpaidna village but when we arrived we discovered that they were soldiers in operation.”
He said they gathered that the villagers mistook the soldiers for Fulani herders camouflaging in military uniform to attack the village.

The Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Major Njideka Agwu, said, “We heard there were arms and ammunition in that village and we went for cordon and search after soldiers were briefed yesterday. Unfortunately, villagers opened fire on us and we don’t know the number of casualty for now because the information is sketchy, but investigation is still on.”
