Politics › MEND: Buhari's Government Has Agreed To Release Kanu, Okay Brothers by BeeBeeOoh(op):
The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) says the federal government has agreed to release Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), and Charles and Henry Okah, who are standing trial for alleged terrorism.

The group said the government has also agreed not to arrest Government Ekpemupolo, better known as Tompolo, whom the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has declared wanted.
MEND added that an agreement has also been reached to review the life sentence handed to Edmund Ebiware, the alleged mastermind of the 2010 independence day bombing.

According to Jomo Gbomo, MEND’s spokesman, the agreements were reached as parts of moves to resolve the Niger Delta crisis.
Gbomo said Adolphus Wabara, former senate president, led the negotiating team which arrived at the deal with the government.

“The Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta (MEND) is the only militant group from the Niger Delta region who are presently engaged in a dialogue with the federal government of Nigeria – through oil companies and security agencies -with a view to resolving the current Niger Delta crisis,” the statement read.

“Thus far, the deliberations have been fruitful, various concessions and guarantees have already been secured. Some of which include, but are not limited to: release of Henry Okah, Charles Okah and Obi Nwabueze; review of the life sentence handed to Mr. Edmund Ebiware based on a proposal put forward by the Aaron Team representative for Abia and Imo states, Senator Adolphus Wabara.

“Also, conditional release of IPOB leader, Mr. Nnamdi Kanu and others if they renounce their agitation for a “Biafra Republic,” the group said. Furthermore, MEND said they agreed:

“That Mr. Government Ekpemupolo shall not be arrested, harassed and/or intimidated whenever he makes himself available as a delegate of the MEND Aaron Team.”

Politics › Rep Members Say No For External Probe Of Dogara, Others- Daily Trust by BeeBeeOoh(op):
.........says Jibrin highjacked budget process

Members of the House of Reps Committee on Appropriation said yesterday that there was no breach whatsoever in the 2016 budget process that would warrant the probe of Speaker Yakubu Dogara, his deputy Yussuf Suleimon Lasun, chief whip, Alhassan Ado Doguwa and minority leader, Leo Ogor. Addressing a press conference yesterday in Abuja, deputy chairman of the committee, Rep Chris Emeka Azubogu (PDP, Anambra), who was accompanied by eight other members of the committee, said the allegations levelled against the quartet by the former chairman of the committee, Abdulmumin Jibrin, were all lies.

A new group in the House known as ‘Transparency Group’ comprising of over 100 members, had on Wednesday called for an external probe into the matter and that anybody found wanting should be punished. But the appropriation committee members insisted that there was no need for that.

Jibrin had following his sack last week alleged that Dogara and the other three leaders tried to force him to insert projects worth N40 billion for them in the budget, among other weighty allegations.
However, the lawmakers said they were dismayed and disappointed by Jibrin’s conduct and allegations since his removal, saying he was the one who perpetrated all the irregularities in the budget.

They also alleged that Jibrin “hijacked” the budget process and single-handedly ran away from them only to return after weeks with a report on the budget. “We wish to state that we totally disassociate ourselves from all the calculated plot to pull down the integrity of the leadership and members of the 8th House of Representatives.”

They said following Jibrin’s action of “hijacking” the budget, they approached the Speaker with complaints and demanded the former chairman’s sack.

While calling on Jibrin to tow the path of honour and conduct himself in a manner befitting of a lawmaker, the legislators said they were “solidly in support of Mr Speaker, Rt. Hon. Yakubu Dogara and other principal officers of the House of Reps.”

Health › Police Releases Statement On #savemayowasaga.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:26am On Jul 29, 2016
The Lagos branch of the Nigerian Police Force have lent their voice to the #SaveMayowa saga that has been raging since yesterday.

It was alleged by Nollywood actress Toyin Aimakhu and some online news outlets that the campaign was a scam and that while Mayowa is indeed sick with Ovarian cancer, she has been told nothing can be done and advised to go home.
It was alleged that the family had knowledge of this but collected money anyway. The family have denied this claim stating that there are indeed plans to fly Mayowa out for treatment.

The Lagos University Teaching Hospital have spoken out stating that they are unaware of any scam but will investigate.

Now the police have stated that they will definitely look into it with the Public relations officer of the Force Dolapo Badmus releasing a statement.
It said, “The Lagos State commissioner of police Cp Fatai Owoseni has directed full scale investigation into the report that the *Save Mayowa Campaign* is a fraud.

“Founder of Lifestake foundation Ms Aramide Kasumu and two members of the ailing Mayowa Shukura Ahmed’s family, Mr Iwaloye Seun and Mrs Zaneen Ahmed were earlier today invited to the command’s headquarters on a fact finding mission, subsequently the command have placed a red alert on the access bank account opened in the name of Mayowa as it has been frozen while effort is ongoing to contact the managers of “Gofundme” online account so as to ensure funds raised through that platform is not fraudulently diverted. Investigation will be extended to LUTH hospital Idi-Araba where the patient is currently undergoing treatment.

The command wishes to inform all the good spirited people who had donated generously to this course that it will ensure it does not return as a hoax and every outcome of the investigation shall be made open.

Our heart is with Mayowa at this critical period of her life and pray she finds healing.”

Politics › Why Justice Abang Upheld Sheriff As PDP Chairman.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:02am On Jul 29, 2016
Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja, on Thursday upheld Senator Ali Modu Sheriff as the authentic National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party.

The court nullified the appointment of Senator Ahmed Makarfi as the Chairman of the Caretaker Committee of the party.

Abang said the convention held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State on May 21 where the Makarfi caretaker committee emerged was was a total violation of court orders.

There was an order by a Lagos State Federal High Court restraining the then factional executives that produced Makarfi’s caretaker committee from parading themselves as the party executives.

Another Federal High Court in Lagos also declared the Sheriff faction as illegal, which the Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court upheld.
The orders came on May 12 and May 20, while the PDP convention took place on May 21.
One of the courts had restrained the PDP from holding any further convention until they put their house in order.

Meanwhile, Justice Abang also restrained the Makarfi caretaker committee from exercising any authority or taking any decision on behalf of the PDP henceforth on account of being an illegal body.

On the tussle between Olagoke Fakunle and Ferdinand Obi locked in legal battle to represent the two factions of the PDP, Abang said the Makarfi-led faction, which appointed Obi, had no legal authority to do so.

The judge said the letter by the Makarfi-led faction appointing Obi to represent the party was illegal, unlawful and was set aside on the ground that the committee was null and void.

According to Abang, the committee headed by Makarfi had no law to his side to appoint a lawyer for the PDP or carry out any act on behalf of the party.

He, however, upheld the appointment of Fakunle, having been appointed to represent PDP by the Sheriff-led faction as the authentic legal representation.

The judge said Makarfi’s caretaker committee had missed their way by heading to the Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court to obtain a favourable judgment.

Abang said the Port Harcourt Federal High Court had the same co-ordinate jurisdiction with that of Lagos Division.

According to Abang, the judgment of the Port Harcourt Division, which recognised the Makarfi-led caretaker committee is unlawful, illegal and has no foundation in law to stand.

According to Abang, anything done in contravention of the two subsisting orders are unlawful, illegal and should not be recognised.

He held: Senator Makarfi-led caretaker committee as an apostle of impunity found their way to Port Harcourt to get judgment and I hold that the judgment cannot stand.

“The Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court cannot make an order to neutralise the effectiveness and potency of orders of Lagos Division of the Federal High court.

“As at the time the Makarfi-led committee found their way to Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court, the orders of the Lagos Division of the court was still subsisting.

“The Port Harcourt Division of the Federal High Court, therefore, has no business to have dabbled into the issues of PDP leadership in the light of the subsisting orders issued in Lagos by a court of competent jurisdiction.

“The Supreme court has made it clear that in a situation like this, something cannot be built on nothing and in the instance, I have no liver to depart from the Supreme Court decision.

“Though I have powers to nullify the Division of the Port Harcourt that recognised Makarfi leadership, I will not do so because there is no application to that effect before me.
“I will, however, allow the Court of Appeal to do justice to that.”

The judge advised politicians not to cause disaffection among judges of the Federal High Court, adding that if they do so, the court has the power to call them to order.
He also said the culture of impunity must stop in the country.

Abang also said any decision outside the Sheriff-led committee is illegal, unlawful and is not binding on the party.

The court also adjourned to August 15 to rule on the application to join other executive members of the Makarfi-led committee in the fresh suit filed by Sheriff stopping the committee from conducting a fresh convention.

According to the judge, all other applications pending before the court on PDP matter will be ruled upon on August 15.

Politics › FG To Make Secondary Education Mandatory For Girl Child- Aisha Buhari by BeeBeeOoh(op): 1:53pm On Jul 28, 2016
Wife of the President, Mrs. Aisha Buhari, Thursday, said the Federal Government is considering a law that will make it compulsory for every girl child to attain at least secondary school education.

Speaking at the Nigerian Institute of Management's, NIM, Women-in-Management and Leadership Conference in Abuja, Aisha Buhari, who was represented by the wife of the Nasarawa State Governor, Mrs. Mairo Al-Makura, disclosed that the Bill which would receive inputs from women nationwide and put forward to the National Assembly, would be facilitated by the
Federal Government through the free education policy.

This, according to her, is because of the fact that education is the key to liberation and empowerment of the girl child.

She said, "Education changes the outlook of a person and drives away poverty of the mind and the pocket. An educationally empowered girl child of today is the women professional of tomorrow.

Politics › Jibrin: Dogara Diverted FG Project To His Farm In Nasarawa by BeeBeeOoh(op): 1:29pm On Jul 28, 2016
Abdulmumin Jibrin, a member of the federal house of representatives, has vowed to “exposing” Yakubu Dogara, the speaker, until he is removed.
Jibrin started slamming allegations of corruption against Dogara and other members of the house leadership when he was removed as the chairman of the appropriations committee last week.

On Wednesday, Dogara had given him seven days to apologise for the allegations or face a lawsuit, but the legislator vowed not apologise to Dogara, instead calling the speaker a “shameless fraud”.
Continuing on Thursday, Jibrin accused Dogara of diverting a federal government project to his farm in Nasarawa.

Allegation no21 to MrSpeaker:why did you fraudulently divert a Fed Govt water project to your farm in Nasarawa&how are you funding the farm?
— Abdulmumin Jibrin (@AbdulAbmJ)
July 28, 2016

“Good morning fellow Nigerians. Every day, I will give additional allegation against Mr Speaker and the three others until the law catches up with them,” he said.

“Allegation No 21 to Mr Speaker: Why did you fraudulently divert a federal government water project to your farm in Nasarawa and how are you funding the farm?

“When a new speaker emerges and the other principal officers replaced, I will write to the presiding officers of both chambers to commence a radical internal reform in the entire national assembly beyond budget to cover performance assessment, running cost and allowances, investigations etc

“If the reform so done on the national assembly is not made public latest by December, I will shall take it up and lay before the general public even if I am alone.

“The idea is to do a clean up, flush out corruption and corrupt members so that in 2019 only corrupt-free people who want to serve will come in.”
