Politics › BREAKING NEWS: Shootout In Maiduguri Government House Over Rice Distribution.. by BeeBeeOoh(op):
image: http://images.dailytrust.com.ng/cms/gall_content/2016/6/2016_6$largeimg123_Jun_2016_124924837.jpg

There was shootout between policemen and soldiers in Maiduguri Government  House Thursday afternoon when soldiers in a truck attempted to forcefully get a share of the rice being distributed to Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) not living in camps.

Our reporter gathered that the distribution of rice for the IDPs had started from about a week ago under the watch of policemen in the Government House who are to ensure that the rice is given only to people with the required documentation.

It was alleged that the soldiers who wanted to get from the rice today had been coming to get from the rice since the distribution started without appropriate documentation.

When the policemen refused to allow them to get from the rice today, shootout ensued leading injury of at least one policeman.

Currently, the policemen are holding two soldiers at the second gate of the government house, while their soldier colleagues are at the first trying to get them back.

Politics › President Buhari Postpones Dinner With Lawmakers For Fear Of Boycott- Punch News by BeeBeeOoh(op): 12:09am On Jun 23, 2016
John Ameh, Olalekan Adetayo and Sunday Aborisade

President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday afternoon cancelled the traditional breaking of Ramadan fast which he would have had with the leadership of the National Assembly.

The development, The PUNCH learnt, was necessitated by the current face-off between the Executive and the Legislature over the forgery case instituted against the President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki; and his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, by the Federal Government.

But the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said in a statement that the event was postponed because the lawmakers had prior commitments scheduled for the same day.

The presidential spokesman said, “Please don’t call it cancellation because nothing like that happened.

“The President’s Iftar for the leadership of the National Assembly was postponed, to be rescheduled for another date.

“This arose from the clash of schedules. You know the President spent the first 14 days of the fast out of the country. The schedule was put up hurriedly on his return to ensure that all interests are accommodated.

“It turned out that the date fixed for the parliament could not be sustained due to prior commitments some of the invitees had. We are expecting that a new date will be appointed.”

Since Buhari returned to Nigeria on Sunday after his medical trip to London, he had been meeting some top government officials to break the Ramadan fast.

On Monday, the President hosted security chiefs and also used the event to host the former Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Solomon Arase, to a farewell dinner.

The President also on Tuesday hosted members of the Federal Executive Council led by Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo.

He was scheduled to host the leaders of the National Assembly on Wednesday before the sudden cancellation.

The PUNCH learnt that the event was hurriedly put off to avoid a situation where the President would be embarrassed.

A source told one of our correspondents that the dinner was put off when news filtered in that the lawmakers would boycott it to protest the Executive’s alleged interference in their affairs.

The source said, “When news filtered in that the lawmakers would not attend the event, the Presidency had no choice but to cancel it.

“The Chief of Staff to the President was asked to issue a notice to that effect.

“But in the notice, the COS only said the event had been rescheduled. The truth however is that it may not hold under the current situation.”

In continuation of the traditional breaking of fast, however, the President had been scheduled to host representatives of the judiciary on Thursday and receive some leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress on Friday.

Travel › 41 Nigerians Deported From USA.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 11:52pm On Jun 22, 2016
By Louis Iba.

The United States of America (USA) has deported 41 Nigerians for the breach of various laws in the country. The 41 Nigerians (all males) were flown into the country through the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos with a chartered aircraft, Miami Air International with the registration number N733MA. The aircraft touched down the Lagos airport at about 12:20pm Nigerian time.

Daily Sun learnt that nine of the deported Nigerians were repatriated for drug related offence, 26 for various police cases, while the other six were returned for the breach of the US immigration laws. Their deportation comes less than a week after 162 Nigerians were returned from Libya for entering the country illegally.

According to immigration sources at the airport, the Nigerians who were deported because of criminal offences in the USA would be further detailed and interrogated to ascertain if they required any form of rehabilitation before being set free to enter into the country and mix freely with the Civil population. Those who were however deported for the breach of the US immigration laws were released to go to their various destinations after passing through Immigration profiling that ascertained they were Nigerian citizens.

Celebrities › Sex Before Marriage Not Bad, I'll Grab The Opportunity- Nollywood Actor/director by BeeBeeOoh(op): 11:27pm On Jun 22, 2016
Popular Nollywood Director, Ugezu Jideofor Ugezu, says sex before marriage is not a bad thing as perceived by some.

He said he would use the opportunity over and over again and stressed there was no difference since it would still happen no matter what.

In a chat with Vanguard, he stressed on sex before marriage saying, “If I had the opportunity, why not? Am I not a man? I am not a monk.

“However, the opportunity didn’t present itself, but eventually, it happened. So, it does not matter when, whether before or after, it will still happen,” the actor quipped.

The actor said he did not date or court his wife.

According to him, “I didn’t date her. We exchanged telephone numbers and began to talk on phone. But there was nothing like intimate relationship between us.

“That was why she was surprised when I told her I was going to marry her. I didn’t give her the impression that I was going to spend the rest of my life with her.

“I don’t believe in relationships.

“Before I met her, I was into a lot of relationships. I had a girlfriend in Zaria. I was planning to marry her before she won visa lottery and relocated to America. I lost contact with her and that was what prevented me from marrying her.

“I was in a relationship and I was thinking of settling down with her before she travelled out of the country.

“If I was not married before now, I would have definitely married an actress.”

When asked if he believes in love at first sight, the actor known as a grand master in the occult world as portrayed in his movies said, “I don’t want to identify myself with this thing they call love, because ‘love ‘ is a word that has a lot of complexities.

“But you will know when you see a woman that you can spend the rest of your life with. Love is a thing that evolves with time,” the movie director fondly called Mr. Surplus added.

Politics › We'll Frustrate Buhari's Communications To Senate- PDP Senators by BeeBeeOoh(op): 4:58pm On Jun 22, 2016
By Henry Umoru & Joseph Erunke

ABUJA – SENATORS of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Wednesday, vowed to henceforth frustrate every communication from President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress, APC government to the Senate The senators said their decision to cease further cooperation with the Buhari administration was predicated on what they called “unwarranted threats to the legislative arm of government, particularly to the Senate leadership by the executive arm, as well as the on-going intimidation and persecution of the opposition party (PDP) by the ruling party (APC).”

At a press conference, in Abuja, where they formally announced their withdrawal of support in all forms for the ruling government, the senators accused the president of persecuting their party members in the guise of fighting corruption while turning deaf ears on his party members who have corruption allegations hanging on their necks.

The development confirmed Vanguard’s earlier story that the senators had resolved during their caucus meeting on Tuesday to withdraw their support for the ruling party. Reading a prepared text containing their resolutions at their Tuesday’s caucus meeting, Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha, who was accompanied by over 30 PDP senators at the press conference, said the president’s actions through the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, had become worrisome to well meaning Nigerians over the safety of democracy in the country. While frowning at the freezing of personal account of Ekiti State governor, Ayo Fayose by the anti-graft agency allegedly on the order of the president, the senators challenge Buhari to extend probe of campaign funds beyond the PDP controlled states.

A copy of the text obtained read thus: “We, the PDP senators met in our caucus meeting yesterday 21st June, 2016 and deliberated on the state of the nation, and to examine our position on unwarranted threats to the legislative arm of government, particularly to the Senate leaadership by the executive arm, as well as the on-going intimidation/persecution of the opposition party (PDP) by the ruling party (APC) “Arising from the forgoing, the caucus passed resolutions condemning in totality the orchestrated plot to remove the President of the Senate and his Deputy, through an illegal means.

”The deployment of state instruments of coercion to intimidate an independent arm of government like the legislature is now a major threat to the survival of our democracy.

“The glaring witchhunt of perceived opposition elements in the polity is invitation to anarchy.” “The war against corruption should not be selective, must be fought with sincerity and not the politics that is being played now with ‘war against corruption”. We therefore condemn in strong terms the sentiments displayed in fighting corruption. e.g. freezing of account of the Ekiti State Governor, is clearly a political witch hunt.

Since the war against corruption has devolved into probing campaign funds, it should be extended to all parties, APC inclusive.

“The PDP Senate Caucus therefore wish to warn the Executive arm of government to act with caution on matters that have the potency to subvert our democracy. The Executive must therefore desist from these acts of lawlessness that are only typical in a military dictatorship.”

”The caucus therefore wish to advise the APC led government to concentrate on the existing economic and security challenges that are threatening our survival as a nation.

“Finally, the PDP Caucus wish to reiterate that we will no longer support the APC government until they cease the belligerent attitude towards PDP members.

The resolution was signed by the Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio and the Deputy Senate Minority Leader, Emmanuel Bwacha, Others are Senator Phillip Aduda, Senator Minority Whip and Biodun Olujimi, Deputy Senate Minority Whip.

Politics › Edo Guber: Ex-PDP Governors Forum DG Picks APGA Nomination Form.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 11:39pm On Jun 21, 2016
The just resigned Director-General of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors Forum, Osaro Onaiwu, has purchased the nomination forms for the governorship election in Edo State, on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).

Addressing newsmen shortly after collecting his nomination form, Tuesday inAbuja, Onaiwu said he is impressed by the model of governance as examplified in Anambra state.
On why he has decided to dump the PDP for APGA, Onaiwu retorted, ” I been serving 36 governors of the country and not just PDP. I am looking at a model I can copy and I feel APGA has the model I can copy,” he said.

Speaking about the challenge posed by APC and its candidate backed by the out-going governor of the state, Adams Oshiomhole, the aspirant said it is voters in Edo state will decide who their next governor would be.
He added that he is the only candidate that has no scandal, stressing that he has not case at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).He also denied insinuations that he got loans from governors to contest the forthcoming election.

“I am very confident. I have seen the two parties. I am confident that APGA will win. I am going home without garbage. From what I have seen in PDP anis APC in Edo state, I believe that victory is our, ApGa and that people are going to come out and vote for APGA.” he said.

On his chances in Edo Govenors contest he said” it is not money that matters in this business but the vision . It is what you are taken to the people. Even if it is 20 million we will be able to afford it but that is not the issue I tIs what you want to give back to the people. It is what you are taking home.
On his part, the National Chairman of APGA, Chief Victor Oye expressed confidence on the chances of the party in the governorship contest in Edo state.

“APGA is a party for the future, a party that have a clean bill of health. APC and PDP have produce unaceptable candidates in Edo. Unlike others we dont force candidate to the electorates.

“Edo state is in bondage and must be liberated and that is what APGA is all about to do. What we have in Edo is sectional development, and that is why APGA is the alternative, we want to replicate in Anambra in Edo exemplify by our candidate, Osaro Onaiwu. We have said that APGA is the party to beat in 2019,” he added.

Politics › Buhari Warns Biafra Agitators, N/delta Militants.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 11:32pm On Jun 21, 2016
President Muhammadu Buhari has warned those agitating for the Republic of Biafra as well as Niger Delta militants who are destroying oil installations in the region.
Speaking at the State House in Abuja

Tuesday night at the breaking of fast dinner for members of the Federal Executive Council, Buhari asked Biafra agitators and the militants to reflect "very seriously" on the Civil War of 1967-1970 "where about two million Nigerians lost their lives."

He said: "And at that time, as young military officers, you hardly heard of anything about petroleum or whatever money you got from it. Look at what Gen. Gowon said `To keep Nigeria one is a task that must be done’ and every soldier whether he has been to school or not knew what the general meant.

"But we were quarrelling with our brothers, we were not fighting an enemy and then somebody is saying that once again, he wants Biafra. I think this is because he was not born when there was Biafra. We have to reflect on the historical antecedents to appreciate what is before us now and what we intend to leave for our children and our grand children."

President Buhari also said that "Leading the people is not a joke. It means accepting responsibilities for good or wrong."
The president also stated that Nigeria needed a lot of prayers in view of the current economic and security challenge.

"We need a lot of prayers. Certainly, with the nation’s economy going down. We haven’t developed the agriculture, we're still trying to talk on those who'll come and develop the solid mineral for us," he said. Buhari said Ramadan provides leaders the opportunity to be more conscious of their responsibilities to the citizens.

"It strengthens our resolve to build our country to make it stronger and to make sure that the incoming generations are sufficiently motivated to be patriotic. It's no news that we are the biggest country in Africa, we're the economy engine of Africa, which are true by the way. But, we must always be patriotic in our dealings with others.

"This month of prayers and service to God, let's keep on these prayers all the times, believing that God in His infinite mercy will listen to our prayers, give us peace, security and better the economy once more so that we can quickly rebuild and even do more for the country.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, who spoke on behalf of the cabinet members, thanked Buhari for inviting them for the breaking of fast dinner
