Politics › Why Nigeria Is In A Big Mess- Buhari by BeeBeeOoh(op): 5:23am On Jun 28, 2016*. Modified: 5:51am On Jun 28, 2016 |
The President has once again blamed the economic current situation of the country on the failure of the past administration in the area of saving especially when it experienced the oil boom.
President Buhari reiterated the cause of the current economic hardship in the country while receiving the Chief Global CEO of Unilever, Mr Paul Polman on Monday at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Buhari also noted that the country will see better days yet again as his administration is committed to restructuring the country and its economy.
He said: ”We refused to save for the rainy day. Now the rain is beating us. No money, no savings, nothing. And we are thoroughly wet from the rains”.
Speaking further, the president noted that the implementation of a mono economy in the nation is the chef problem the country is faced with. He continued however that the country will soon feed itself and havve surplus for exports with the new focus being diverted into the Agricultural sector.
“We want to create jobs, and supporting manufacturing is one way to do it. As soon as we have stabilized our budget, I would personally be interested in the manufacturing sector, particularly in the generation of essential raw materials,” the President said. Crime › Suspected Militants Attack Ogun Deputy Governor's Convoy.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 11:11pm On Jun 27, 2016*. Modified: 5:31am On Jun 28, 2016 |
Suspected militants on Monday attacked the security team of the Ogun Deputy Governor, Chief Mrs Yetunde Onanuga at Ibafo.
The militants engaged Onaguga’s security team in gun battle when she embarked on an inspection visit to some borderline communities between Ogun and Lagos states sacked by militants.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the suspected militants had last Friday attacked the communities killing scores of residents.
Onanuga, who visited Imushin, Elepete and Igbo-Olomu communities, reassured the residents of the commitment of the authorities to protect their lives and property.
The suspected militants however, began shooting at the security operatives who accompanied the deputy governor at Akoka Ebute area of Ibafo, in Obafemi-Owode Local Government Area.
However, the gun battle which lasted for about 20 minutes, did not record an casualty.
Traditional rulers from the affected communities had earlier held a meeting with the Secretary to the Government of Ogun State (SSG), Taiwo Adeoluwa, in Abeokuta.
NAN reports that the outcome of the meeting spurred the government to send a delegation, led by the deputy governor to visit the affected communities.
As the advance security team led by the service chiefs was approaching Ibafo Creeks, where the suspected militants were believed to be hiding, a barrage of gunfire ensued, forcing the law enforcement agents to take cover.
NAN gathered that the security operatives, comprising soldiers and policemen, responded immediately and repelled the suspected militants, who later retreated deeper into the creeks and escaped.
The delegation later made a detour from the troubled area after the deputy governor had assured the residents of commitment to their safety.
Reacting to the gun battle, the SSG expressed concern over the deteriorating security situation in the affected communities and called for urgent Federal Government’s assistance.
He said the exchange of gunfire between the security operatives and the criminal”in broad daylight” was regrettable.
“It is a thing of regret that things have gone so bad in our country; at this level, the teams led by the deputy governor of the state were not able to have access to a part of our state.
“It means that without mincing words, the Federal Government needs to get involved in this.
“This is something that is beyond the capacity of the police. We need military task force like the one we have in Niger Delta; it’s necessary and desirable.
“As we can see in Elepete, Igbo-Olomu and Imagbon, nothing can be compared with the violence here in Ibafo,” Adeoluwa said. (NAN) Read more at http://www.herald.ng/suspected-militants-attack-ogun-deputy-governors-convoy/#6XEq2LWWzuur4Fdh.99Lalasticlala, Mynd44 |

Politics › Niger-Delta Avengers Invites Buhari To Niger-Delta by BeeBeeOoh(op): 11:34pm On Jun 25, 2016 |
The Niger Delta Avengers (NDA), the new militant group in the Niger Delta region, wants President Muhammadu Buhari to visit the region to physically experience the pains of the community “in the hands of the Nigerian government and the multinationals”.
The invitation, which was delivered in a statement on Saturday, comes three weeks after the group warned the president to “sign his death warrant” before visiting Ogoniland.
“Buhari is trying to visit Ogoniland, but he should sign his death warrant before coming to Port Harcourt or try to visit any state of the Niger Delta community, Biafra land,” a suspected NDA member had told IBT.
“We are starting a dance he cannot finish. We shall dance like vultures. He [Buhari] has dared to wake a sleeping lion, but I promise him this time around if he tries to step his foot in any community of the Niger Delta, in Biafraland, he will not go back alive.
“Any Niger Deltan who will try to walk with Buhari shall also go to his grave that day. This is our assurance.”
Buhari eventually decided against the trip to Ogoniland, although the presidency did not state whether the avengers’ threat influenced the cancellation.
Saturday’s statement, signed by Moduch Agbinibo, was softer in tone.
“The Nigeria President Buhari should visit Ugborodo host to Chevron crude oil Export terminal/EGTL gas plant, Ogulagha host to Shell Forcados Crude Oil Export terminal/tank farm, Bonny Island host to Shell Bonny Crude Oil Export terminal/NLNG gas terminal, Brass host to Agip/ENI export terminal, Ibeno host to ExxonMobil Qua Iboe crude export terminal,” the statement read.
“These are just the export terminals not talking about the numerous oil and gas flow stations and the oil wells that crisscross the length and breadth of the Niger delta.
“Mr. President come and see for yourself what the host communities are going through in the hands of Nigeria government and the multinationals. http://www.thecable.ng/avengers-invite-buhari-niger-delta
