Politics › Former Gov. Yuguda, Ex-perm Sec, Others Asked To Refund N700.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 7:14pm On May 06, 2016 |
By Suzan Edeh Bauchi — Former Governor Isa Yuguda of Bauchi State and his former Permanent Secretary, Special Services, Alhaji Abdu Ilelah, among others, have been asked to refund over N700 million, allegedly spent from the security vote without valid documents.
According to a statement by Governor Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar’s Press Secretary, Abubakar Al-Sadique, this was part of the recommendations of the committee on the recovery of public property taken without due process under the chairmanship of Air Commodore Ahmed Gamawa (retd).
The committee was set up by Governor Mohammed Abdullahi to investigate the activities of Bauchi State Agency for Orphans and Vulnerable Children, BASOVCA; State Universal Basic Education Board, SUBEB; Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises and the State Ministry for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs from May 2007 to May 2015.
The former governor and others named are to refund N716,892,500 being the amount claimed to have been spent on security without valid documents. The former Bauchi State Accountant General under Isa Yuguda, Alhaji Adamu Umar Gokaru, former Auditor General, Alhaji Abdu Usman Aliyu and former Permanent Secretary, Special Duties, Abdu Aliyu Ilelah, have been recommended for sanction for alleged gross misconduct. According to the chairman, the committee discovered that due process was not followed in the award of contracts at the State Universal Basic Education Board where N110,126,373.64 was released for the payment of October 2015 teachers salaries and the board utilised only N109,351,476.71 in paying 3,216 newly recruited teachers but could not account for the balance of N774, 897.47. The committee also alleged that N858 million loan was fraudulently taken by SUBEB from Sterling Bank Nigeria Plc to fund projects already counter-funded by the state government in 2012 while the contractor that handled the contract of the e-library project awarded by the SUBEB in the Institute of Education, was the Commissioner for Education, Alhaji Aminu Mohammed Ibrahim and had not executed the project fully.
The committee said: “The contractor failed to supply and install the Integrated Science Laboratory equipment for which he was paid the sum of N4 million at the same Institute.
“The accrued interest of N79million from the fixed deposit account in Sterling Bank Nigeria Plc should be jointly refunded to the state government by the former Chairman of SUBEB, Alhaji Abdullahi Dabo and the former Chief Accountant of the Board, Alhaji Kabiru Malami Sidi while all signatories of SUBEB accounts be made to refund the illegal loan collected from Sterling Bank PLC as well as the associated charges amounting to N933, 604, 619.57.”
The committee also recommended that the Chief Accountant Local Education Authority Accounts at the Board, Alhaji Mohammad Alhaji, should be made to account for N774,897,47 being balance of N110,126,373.64 released to the Board for the payment of October 2015 salaries. Crime › Housewife, Boyfriend To Die By Hanging For Butchering Husband.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 6:06am On May 06, 2016 |
A housewife, Mrs. Josephine Onwuzuruike, and her boyfriend, Ekene Onyeka, were yesterday sentenced to death by hanging by Justice Benson Ogbuh of an Ebonyi State High Court.
Josephine and Onyeka had in 2008, at Azuiyiokwu in Abakaliki, the state capital butchered her husband and kept his parts inside a cupboard.
Josephine had accused her husband of attempting to marry another wife by building a separate house other than the one they were living. She, therefore, contacted Onyeka who joined her in killing the husband.
Delivering judgment on the case, Ogbuh found the accused guilty of the offence and convicted them. He sentenced them to death by hanging. During trial, Josephine, broke down and wept uncontrollable. She pleaded with the judge to be lenient on her because of her children.
Also yesterday, another state High Court sitting in Abakaliki, sentenced two persons, Onyemachi Oge and Okechukwu Oma, to death by hanging for kidnapping a medical doctor, Dr. Chuka Manyinke.
The duo, alongside Chukwuemeka Levi, Idris Oken, Edeke Desmond and Ijeoma Oge, were accused of kidnapping Manyinke, a doctor of paediatrics at the Federal Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki on May 5, 2013 at his private hospital located on 15, Owerri Street, Abakaliki.
Manyinke’s security guard, identified simply as Peter, was shot dead for attempting to prevent the hoodlums from kidnapping his boss.
The sum of N3 million ransom was paid before the medical doctor was released after six days in captivity.
Onyemachi Oge and Oma got N200,000 from the ransom. Oma, a tailor opposite Manyinke’s hospital, provided information to the kidnappers and gave them directives on how to perfect the act while Onyemachi supplied beer, biscuits and water to the doctor during his days in captivity. All the accused persons have been in prison custody since the incident.
Delivering judgment on the matter yesterday at High Court 3, Justice Eze Udu said the prosecution counsel, I. I. Anikwe, proved his case against Onyemachi Oge the 4th accused and Okechukwu Oma 6th accused beyond reasonable doubt and sentenced them to death by hanging.
He discharged and acquitted the 1st accused (Levi), 2nd accused (Oken), 3rd accused (Desmond) and 4th (Oge).
The judge, however, recommended that the 5th accused (Ijeoma Oge) and her husband, who is still at large, be charged for conspiracy and kidnapping for allowing their house to be used in keeping the victim during the incident.
NewTelegrahOnline reports that in his reaction, counsel to the 3rd, 4th and 5th accused, D. I. Njoku, said he was already preparing to appeal the judgement against the 4th accused who was convicted and sentenced to death by hanging. - See more at: http://www.lailasblog.com/2016/05/housewife-boyfriend-to-die-by-hanging.html?m=1#sthash.w7brPwQt.dpuf Lalasticlala

Buhari is an learner. He and his cronies think Yar'adua and gej are clueless. They are way smarter than Buhari. You don't chose a battle you can't win. He should go ask the Americans.
Keep the top guns happy and use your federal might to crush them with unprecedented infrastructural development. The government needs to listen and help the poor masses to achieve a level of sense of belonging, then use the masses to fight the corrupt leaders like Tompolo, Asari and co. Politics › Benue Massacre: CAN Drags Fulani Herdsmen To NHRC by BeeBeeOoh(op): 10:43am On May 05, 2016 |
By Ikechukwu Nnochiri ABUJA – The Benue State Chapter of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN, yesterday, lodged a complaint at the National Human Rights Commission, NHRC, over alleged killings and wanton destruction of property in the state by suspected Fulani herdsmen.
While submitting a copy of the petition to the Executive Secretary of the Commission, Prof. Bem Angwe, the CAN delegation, led by its Chairman in Benue State, Rev. Augustine Akpen Leva, expressed dismay at what it described as “failure of government to curb the incessant, unwarranted killings and wanton destruction of property” in various parts of the state, allegedly perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen. Rev Leva told the Commission that “these mindless killings and invasion of the land reached its climax from 2013 and is advancing with sporadic and regular attacks here and there”.
He said: “The worst affected Local Government Areas so far are: Agatu, Markurdi (Adaka, Adeke, Adem, Upahar, Tse-Kwaghbo, Apir and Mbalagah communities. Others are Gwer-West, Logo, Katsina-Ala, Kwande and Guma (Tse-Oragbo and Tse-Anundu) and Tarka Buruku”.
CAN demanded adequate compensation from Federal and State governments to assuage the feelings of the people who it said have been traumatized and dehumanized following the series of attacks unleashed on them from time to time by marauding herdsmen. Besides, the association told the Commission that the herdsmen were equipped with sophisticated weapons, saying “It is an ocular fact that the continued attacks, which are evidently encouraged by the indecision of Government, are clearly jihadist attempts, calculated at forcefully Islamizing and subjugating the people of Benue state”.
Meantime, while receiving the complaint in Abuja yesterday, the NHRC boss, Prof. Angwe said the commission would carry out an impartial investigation into the matter and also ensure that justice prevailed.
“It is sad that these killings and destruction of property have continued over time and a lot of people have lost their lives as a result of these numerous attacks”, Angwe noted. He called on the Federal and State governments to take proactive steps with a view to ensuring that the affected families were properly settled “to avert hunger as the farmers whose produce feed the nation, no longer go to their farms for fear of attacks”.
“The Commission condemns in very strong terms the attacks that are today going on between pastoralists and farmers.
The act concerns the entire human community hence we have commenced proactive steps within our mandate to protect the rights of Nigerians and other nationals living in Nigeria”, Angwe added. He maintained that all hands should be on deck to curb the incessant clashes between farmers and herdsmen, saying it would be disastrous for the nation which is still grappling with security and economic challenges, to also cope with the issue of hunger.
