Tips on New Zealand Nursing Registration Pathway.

BNSc is required.
IELTS 7 in each component and you are allowed to combine if the tests are taken within 12 months, OET is also accepted with a score of 350, combination is also accepted. These two basic requirements are the first thing that makes you eligible for registration.
First Stage: The Nursing Council New Zealand (NCNZ) process is in three stages, firstly CGFNs credential evaluation(you need 5 documents for this, Nigeria nursing council verification, criminal check, photo ID like passport, employment reference and your ( IELTS/OET)

Second stage - they will send the report to NCNZ directly and the NCNZ will issue you a decision letter to apply for CAP - Competency Assessment Program. The decision letter usually comes with a list of accredited CAP provider and their tuition fee ranges from 6000-10000 nzd which has to be fully paid.

Third Stage: After you have gotten a CAP placement and you have paid, you need the school receipt , decision letter and your bank account statement that will show that you can pay for your flight and support yourself financially during your CAP.

Please note that you will not be paid during your CAP and you are not allowed to work in any capacity until you are fully registered and you will be on a visitor visa for that 3 months. After your CAP you will write a mini exam and your CAP provider will submit your application for your licence.

Fourth Stage: As soon as your licence comes usually within 2-3 weeks you can get a job and convert your visa to a work visa. This allows you to bring in your family and immediately you get a work visa you are eligible for residents permit as a skilled migrant. Nurses are given priority and you will get it faster than other non health professionals.

Important Notes:

NZ does not have an embassy in Nigeria but you can get your visa via south Africa. No stress, the courier will pick up your passport from your home drop it off in SA and they will call to inform you when the visa is ready and courier will return it back to you. When you are applying for your family, you can do it online for them since you are already in NZ.

Also, there are no agents to sponsor you in NZ the only agents available are Asians but you have to pay them but it doesn't worth it, the processing is easy and very transparent you can save that money for your upkeep or part of your CAP fee.

CAP classroom lecture is only for 2 weeks of basic nursing procedures like vital signs and few pharmacology calculations, it's a time for you to shine because I know Nigerian nurses are intelligent.

Tips On Australia Nursing Registration Pathway:

For now NZ route is the cheapest and easiest way to get in to Australia registration pathway through their trans Tasman agreement. With your NZ licence no exams required, you only need to pay a token to get your Australia registration.

If you have post basic nursing please do not apply for registration with it only apply for RN registration, the speciality experience will help you get a job in that field and from there you can study to get their own post graduate certificate if you wish. And if you're already registered in an English speaking country and wants to relocate to NZ, you can get a waiver for English proficiency but other processing remains same

On a lighter note, the money you spent migrating to New Zealand or Australia is worthwhile, because at the end of the day your kids can enjoy free education and free health.

@Anastasius

Thanks for the info. Please; (1) what is usually the cost of living in NZ say for 3months ie amount needed for upkeep? (2) how much is required as per account statement for Visa approval? (3) is vacancy/placement always available to run the '2-month' Competency Assessment Program - CAP? (4) are there always vacancies for RN in NZ like USA and UK? Thanks in anticipation.

she actually used the 2nd school where she spent just 2years. Her concern is if cgfns will not query just 2years for high school program?

vickyehi:
Use the same school you used for ur nursing school admission. Reason is simply because of consistency.

Hi
Pls a friend need your assistance.

I attended two secondary schools. The 1st secondary school for 6years but I didn't make my O' level (WAEC) results here, I don't even have the school testimonial report.

But in my 2nd secondary school which I spent just 2years(just Jss2&3), here, I have my complete O' level (WAEC) results and I also have the school testimonial.

Please, which of the above secondary schools will you advise me to use while filling CGFNS CES form to avoid issues when sending my secondary school transcript? and why?

Thanks in anticipation of your response.

@breeze 19,
pls which agent do you subscribe to?

I like the way the agent is keeping you going despite the ban and uncertainties.

Breeze19:
Yeah if you sign in with any of these agents , it becomes much more easier.
They will send documents to accompany your applications to the embassy .

For visa, paying for the exam fee, hotel reservation and flight....the agency handles all the paper works including getting the ATT from the BON.

I advise you review the previous comments. Many of these had been discussed vividly earlier .

Best of luck.

@bluebeard and @@Vickyehi
Thanks so much for your elaborate comments/contributions. I'll try those Universities and see how it goes.

Meanwhile, @vickyehi,
For those interested in 'a 2 year after degree in Nursing program ' which lead to Canadian Bachelor of Nursing which also automatically qualifies such individuals for the NCLEX RN in Canada, will the Nursing council Canada take such individuals to have equally met the English proficiency ie IELTS requirement after the successful completion of the program? or he/she must meet the ielts band scores despite the program?

vickyehi:
Yes there are several. You can do a masters in Nursing that is open to international students. Check university of manitoba, uni of Alberta, uni of regina etc. So far, as long ad it isnt the Nurse practitioner option, you can get admitted.
TravelRe: Nigerian Nurses And Midwives With The Dream Of Working Abroad Let's Meet Here. by BEEJAY452(m): 10:36am On Apr 16, 2020
Yes, thank you. It looks like a competency assessment program.
I'll prefer other programs in Nursing that does not require RN registration in Canada first if available.

BlueBeard:
Have you confirmed, pls?

@vickyehi and other well-informed in the house,

pls is there any post graduate Nursing program that one can do in Canada that doesn't require one to register as RN in any Canadian province before one can run such program(s)?

pls help, I couldn't get any with Google search.

vickyehi:
Correcting some miscommunication
1.......Omni college is only to integrate you to the nursing environment in Canada. It is not the school where you fo the "bridging" program. The program offered by omni is NOT a substitute for the bridging the college of nursing may request for. However, the program at Omni may help prepare you for the assessment test and generally improve your chances because you would have started getting used to the basic gadgets. Note that people have completed their credential process without Omni, so it is not a part of the process. Also I know people who have completed Omni's program and are currently in the actual bridging programs for their licensure.

2......BScn graduates are not necessarily "good to go". You still have to do the OSCE and your performance at the OSCe is what determines how many courses would be required to bridge the educational gap. You only skip the OSCE assessment if your report from NNAS says "comparable to canadian education". I am yet to see a Nigerian graduate with such an assessment report from NNAS.

3.....For express entry, "the mind of them dey rush us" DOES NOT APPLY. express entry is not focused on you practicing as a nurse but it is STRICTLY AN IMMIGRATION PROCESS. Having a BSN as opposed to a Diploma is ENTIRELY IRRELEVANT to the process. A RN/RM Diploma holder may stand a better chance than a straight BScN. Except the BN holder can find a way to assess each component of their degrees separately (some people in the thread have been successful).
4........"remember Rn can't work as Rn there, u work as lpn there(until u upgrade yaa academics)"
The above statement is NOT TRUE. Although Canada's RN are Bachelor degree holders, there have also been cases of diploma nurses who scaled through the RN licensure process.

In conclusion, the Canadian licensure process is not a "one size fits all" kind of process. Until you start the process, you can not tell how long it would take you or whether or not your degree would scale through. It does help to have a BSN but having a BSN doesnt also mean that you would have it easy and fast. If you really want to practice in Canada, all you can do is to start the process and give your assessment OSCE your best shot (ie if NNAS gives you a report stating "noncomparable or somewhat comparable"wink.

Canadian licensure is in 2 steps.
1.....getting to canada as a landed immigrant (study or permanent resident)
2......the licensure process.
Ensure you have a plan to be successful at both before you commit to it. Else just go to the States or uk or some other place.
TravelRe: Nigerian Nurses And Midwives With The Dream Of Working Abroad Let's Meet Here. by BEEJAY452(m): 1:27pm On Apr 06, 2020
can you please list the several paperwork that are required by the Canadian board of Nursing?

Besides, some have said it on this platform that no matter the university we graduated from and the grade, that we do not meet the Canadian Nursing requirements and that, it is a must for BNSc from Nigeria to do a year or 3months program and passed before one can be qualified to write the Canadian NCLEX or CRNE. please how do you allign this or what's your opinion on this?

BlueBeard:
First of all, if your just RN holder, u can't work as an RN in Canada, because when they evaluate your credentials, d gap would be much, but if u are head bent that u want to work an a Canadian RN, u would have to do some course of about one year or one year and a half( check up Omni college), depending on your ielts score. It's expensive too.but u can opt to work as a LPN(licensed practical nurse, which is a lower than the RN salaries) BscN people, u are good to go, just that they would ask for several paperwork, Dem many die aswear, and d institution would dhl it to them, not you. Later u would write their own exam, then if u pass u would get employed (pls I skipped some steps inbtw) no osce, just ielts and CRNE or CPNE, and, Canada here u come
Whole process is about 2years max

Another route is thru d express entry(either foreign skilled worker or provincial nominees program of which your CRS score must be high of which the fact that u are a nurse has made u already half way eligible aka na Dem dey rush us grin .... its achievable either for RN and BscN, remember Rn can't work as Rn there, u work as lpn there(until u upgrade yaa academics) . That one is another maze of its own. Bottom line is" it is achievable"

FOR AUSTRALIA, U DONT NEED TO WRITE ANY EXAM OOOH ASIDE IELTS...BUT ITS A MUST THAG U WOULD DO A BRIDGING COURSE WHEN U GET THERE. ITS FOR A YEAR OR 3 MONTHS OPTION. MOST NIGERIANS THERE DO THE 3 /MONTHS, AFTER THAT , WORK DON START BE THAT... JUST THAT AUSTRALIA FAR SHA...LOL

P.S: before u come here and start confusing me, do your research very well. So we can interact on the same bandwidth

I hope this helps someone... Cheers fam

@Vickyehi,
pls is there any post graduate Nursing program one can apply for at Canada without Canadian RN Registration first. Most MSc Or postgraduate programs I saw needed RN registration first in any of the provinces before one is considered.

pls help

vickyehi:
True!
Congrats on your ist class.
For canada, it doesnt really matter if you had ist or 3rd class for the licensing. Truth is that there would still be gaps found in your education because of country of origin. If you love canada so much, your choices are to apply for a masters degree (maybe in public health) or you go through the Express entry system. On getting to Canada, the best route to licensing is to redo your Bachelor's degree. At least that way, you are sure of your graduation date. You can also attend an after degree nursing program usually 2year long and a compressed program.

Best option from Nigeria is the UK route. Write your ielts and start up the process. You could work your way from the UK to Australia or canada at a later date when you are more financially buoyant. You may also choose to remain in the uk and get your permanent stay after 5yrs.

For that no.6, transcript stuff:

If everything is now 100% online I thought certificate from the Nursing institution of training or certification of registration would be enough to get ATT?

Hi,
Did you do 3-year Basic Midwifery (RM) first before 18-month RN program?
If yes, did you submit both RM and RN transcripts or only RN to CGFNS for evaluation?
Am interested because that is my situation. And, I will be glad if you can update me on CGFNS final response. Thanks.

Theyoungmatron:
Congrats sir.
CGFNS told me that the hours on my transcript in unusually high for an 18 months RN program. I laughed so hard because it is funny. My question is this, if it is that high, does it mean it is not acceptable? I thought more is better. My school sent the correct info but they seem to like nibbling on crumbs.

Still waiting for their response anyway................

Can the CBT be done here in Nigeria or there in Australia?

barbiee:
*Australia Nursing Board Introduces CBT And OSCE For Foreign Educated Nurses -*

Nurses and midwives with international qualifications arriving in Australia will be offered the choice of either a bridging course or CBT plus OSCE to register in Australia from October 1, 2019.

A year after the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) announced the introduction of a new assessment model for internationally qualified nurses and midwives to attain registration in the country, the board has declared that the new system will come into effect from October 1 this year.

At present, internationally qualified nurses and midwives (IQNMs) who arrive in Australia holding qualifications which are relevant but not substantially equivalent to the Australian qualifications have to undergo a bridging program to attain the registration required to work in the country.

However from next month NMBA will introduce a new assessment model giving candidates the option to choose between the bridging course and the outcomes-based-assessment (OBA) which will be available from January 2020.

"The new model known as outcomes-based-assessment (OBA) will commence in January 2020," the NMBA said in a statement.

“From January 2020, all IQNMs with relevant but not substantially equivalent qualifications will be referred to the OBA,” the statement reads. There will not be any new referrals to the bridging program from next year.

“The priority of the assessment model is public safety and ensuring that all individuals registered as a nurse or midwife in Australia are meeting the same standards, regardless of where they gained their qualifications,” an NMBA spokesperson tells SBS Malayalam.

“Since 2014, IQNMs wanting to register in Australia have been assessed under an interim model of assessment, while the Board undertook an extensive research project to develop a permanent model of assessment. The new model of assessment is based on the recommendations of that research and international best practice,” NMBA added.

*OBA to replace bridging course*

From the October 1, IQNMs who arrive in Australia will be offered to opt-out either the bridging course or OBA to work in the country. But those applying from the January 1 2020, will not be offered the choice of two models.

Those applying from January 1 2020 will only be able to choose OBA, as this will completely replace the current bridging course from 2021.

“Bridging programs are expected to continue until 2021, for IQNMs who hold a referral to bridging. IQNMs will no longer be referred to bridging programs from January 2020,” reads the statement from NMBA.

*What is OBA?*

The outcomes-based-assessment model or OBA that will replace the bridging course consists of two parts. This includes a multiple-choice exam, followed by an objective structured clinical exam (OSCE), which is currently implemented in many countries.

While the first part is a computer-based multiple-choice cognitive assessment, the second part is behavioural assessment in the form of an objective structured clinical examination (OSCE).

Those applicants who pass the first stage will be able to go through to the second part of the OBA.

*Objective structured clinical examination (OSCE)*

According to NMBA, the OSCE is used to assess whether an IQNM possesses the knowledge, skills and competence of a graduate-level Australian nurse or midwife.

"OSCE implemented in many countries including the United Kingdom is basically to assess how a nurse or midwife can handle the patients in different scenarios in a simulation environment," Kunnumpurathu Bijo, the CEO of Melbourne based Institute of Health and Management, tells SBS Malayalam.

“In the OSCE implemented in the UK the IQNMs need to demonstrate their skills in handling a patient in that country, in the presence of a clinical educator who observes them. It covers every aspect, like their communication to the patient, clinical decision making and practice standards,” says Mr. Bijio.

“However, in the UK, OSCE can only be attempted three times and needs proper training to crack it,” adds Bijo.

*Orientation to be completed*

Once the two-stage assessment process is completed, all IQNMs will also be required to complete an orientation program consisting of three stages.

While stage one is an online assessment to introduce IQNMs to Australia and the Australian healthcare system, stage two covers the diversity of Australian culture. This will be completed once the IQNMs are registered with the NMBA.

The third stage of the orientation program will be provided by the IQNM’s employer, based on NMBA guidelines.

“All the nurses and midwives arriving in Australia will have to complete this orientation program from next year,” says Jaison Thomas an Education Consultant at Sanjose Consultacy in Melbourne to SBS Malayalam.

“The new model is expected to benefit the applicants financially as the adaptation program in Australia is very expensive now when compared to other countries,” he adds.

A friend did a 3year basic midwifery programme at first before she proceeded to an 18month basic Nursing programme hear in naija, she is now RM/RN.

(1) will US Nursing board accept/consider her for RN or LPN registration? Or midwife registration?
(2) can UK accept her as RN or RM for registration?
(3) can Canada accept her for RN or LPN registration?

vickyehi:
1....You can send me a pm for nmcn contact to aid your verification
2..... every agency has different rules and requirements. Westways staffing doesnt need you to currently be practicing before they sign you on.

....Can any agency sponsor one for such make-up programme ? If no, how much can it cost? And, if I run such programme, will it be considered that I meet English language requirement ie IELTS?
.....Is it possible to get permanent Residency as a Nurse in Nigeria without duly registered with any BON in Canada? If possible, how?
Thanks in anticipation

vickyehi:
1.....Bsn from naija are mostly somewhat comparable to lpn and not comparable to Rn but that assessment is somewhat irrelevant because even when Nnas says not comparable, you can still apply to the BON as they have the final say.

2.....you find a school that conducts the program and register. There is often a wait list that could be 12mths long.

3....it considered because I did the programs separately. That is school of nursing for 3 years and school of midwifery for 18mths hence I had 2 different academic transcript.

Thanks @vickyehi. More questions pls:

From your experience, (1) is BNSc in Nigeria 'somewhat equivalent' or 'not equivalent'?
(2) lf the skills assessment test shows one will need 1year to up program for instance, what is the way forward?
(3) I read in one of your post that RM + RN was considered for you as two or more certificate how come BNSc + RN + RPON will only be bachelor degree or which one will give more point?

vickyehi:
1.......Nnas would give a report of "not equivalent" or "somewhat equivalent".
2........Depends on your result from the assessment test of your skills, you may be referred to do at least a 1 year to 4years top up program.
3........for immigration, you can claim it as just a bachelors degree (1cert).

1.......I ICES currently is taking forever to assess people's credentials. If you can go through my old posts you would see the IQAS assessment . I cant remember but I used that and my midwifery to claim 2 or more certs and got my PR approved.

2.... I am not aware of such an exam as Pearson is still the company responsible for the RPN exam last time i checked.

3.......- your schools would send your transcripts.
- You would send a copy of your certificate with your
application package .
- NMCN would send the verification of your licenses.
@vickyehi,
Pls is BNSc in Nigeria equivalent to Canadian BScN for RN registration with Ontario or any other province? Or would they require someone to do makeup studies?
How many certificate can someone claim with BNSc, RN and RPON with IQAS for PR/immigration? Thanks in anticipation.
