Hello everyone. I have a quick question for a friend please.

His wife got her study visa. And their daughter got a visitor visa. She’s to resume in January and he was not added to the application initially..

Now he’s asking me if he can apply now before his wife leaves or he has to wait for her to travel and start school in January? And I don’t know so I’m here asking if anyone has an idea.

Thank you

It gave me an error too. This is the correct link without the highlighted text https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/change-schools.html

This what it says:

If your application has been approved
If your application for a study permit has been approved and you change your DLI, you must submit a new study permit application with a new letter of acceptance. You must also pay all the fees for the new application.

Please share the IRCC web page you're referring to. I just want to confirm which rule is correct.

Read the whole page of the link you will understand

It’s the same link. The upper part talks about changing DLI when you’re inside canada already. The lower part is what you’retalking about and that’s changing DLI outside canada

That is for if you change your DLI after canada. I got in before I changed

Thanks for sharing. Please can DLI be changed while awaiting a decision to be made on one’s study permit application?

I’m not sure about this. I changed my DLI after I got to canada

Don't you have to apply for a new study permit when you change shool/DLI?

If your application for a study permit has been approved and you change your DLI, you must submit a new study permit application with a new letter of acceptance. You must also pay all the fees for the new application.

I don’t know where that link came from and I tried checking. It gave me error
Per the information I know and have seen on IRCC website . I don’t have to apply for a new study permit once I’m inside canada and want to change schools. I just only have 150 days to begin the new school. And I’ve started already. All documents seems fine

I just applied for a co-op cz I realized I’ll need one for my new program. No issues

LANDING GIST:

Hi, everyone! I traveled to Montréal yesterday from the Lagos Airport. My trip was a fairly pleasant experience because my mom has a work colleague at the airport and he led me through the entire thing seamlessly.

My ticket had a layover at Istanbul and it was a very dramatic step-up in aviation from MMA. It was easy to navigate their system without requiring any help from anyone. I could pay in dollars and anywhere I turned, a huge screen with precise information reminded people when and where to be for their flights.

The flight to Montréal was uncomfortable because I'd never flown longer than 6 hours at a time before now. This was like 11 hours. Also, airplane food is kinda gross. I'd recommend taking snacks in your carry-on to anyone traveling here.

On getting to Montréal, I went to the Port of Entry where I got my study permit and the guy who spoke to me was really nice. I was prepared for all sorts of questions about my intent and whatnot but he just asked my school, my major and made some jokes. Then he let me in.

My father and his sister were waiting for me at the arrival section and everything else that's happened has felt like a dream. His sister drove us to our apartment and I remember looking out the window and just realizing that I was in a completely different ecosystem. I didn't recognize any buildings, people, animals. Even the people in the car I was with. I mean I'm literally getting adopted into a new family.

It is a theatrical change from my years in Nigeria and one I definitely wish for whoever desires it. I'm reportedly lucky to be here this time of the year because it's not cold. Just chilly. I've been outside with regular clothes and it's pretty fine.

I don't start classes till Winter or Summer - still deciding cause I deferred for a year when my visa application lingered - so I'm excited to spend the next few months exploring all the resources at my disposal. I'm so grateful for all the information I've picked up from this forum. Thanks everyone!

NB: Does anyone know how I can go about getting a new passport for myself here? I was advised to do that by immigration because it expires next year. Also, how long does it take? I've heard there's a place in Ottawa, can anyone confirm this?

Congratulations. Welcome on board

Yeah there’s a Nigerian passport office in Ottawa

Oh wow..lucky you

Pls can anyone give a thorough explanation of this works?

How can one change program? Can one change program in the same school they got admission?

Do we need to leave Canada to apply for another program ?

Should one just go ahead to ask the school what the process is?

Thank you

Hello
You can change program in the same school. Reach out to your school to know their policy.
Or you can apply to another school entirely

And no. You don’t have to leave canada to change schools as long as your study permit is still valid.

Just apply to the school and once you get admission. Notify Ircc. Don’t forgo your initial admission unless you’re sure of the new one

wow Beejay! Good to read from you after a long radio silence, trust you've been well and achieving all you want to achieve?
thanks for the best wishes, we will testify soon!

So you changed school and course after one semester? May I know your reasons for changing?
Were you refunded part of your tuition since you didn't complete the academic year? Did you change DLI?
Missed you on this space

Hello.
Thank you for reaching out

I changed schools because I wanted another program. I didn’t even attend class for a day in the other school or pay. I deferred the admission to start for September to give me time to apply for other programs. I only paid deposit that I paid before I left Nigeria.
I always knew that was non refundable so it was a sacrifice to get me what I wanted.

What about the tuition you paid in the first school? Did they refund or it has gone forever?

I haven’t paid tuition at the time. Just the deposit I paid before visa(1,750) and that has always beeen non refundable

Please, what is the process of changing school like you did?

Hello.
Just apply for a new school and once you get the admission notify IRCC on your account

But take note . You have just 150 days from the day you decide to change school to resume.

Please I really want to know how changing of school and program works in canada because I intend to do same when I arrive canada by God's grace..

So the way I did it. I did registration for the school I came in with. Unfortunately/fortunately I couldn’t resume cz my sister got sick here and she has a baby so I deferred the previous admission till fall. And I started applying to another school. When I got the admission I just updated IRCC on my portal about DLI change.

The normal process is for you to even start the first school. Maybe for a few weeks before you change but I had a valid reason for o starting.

Hello everyone…
It’s been a while. I’ve been absent for some time.

School and having to work has been a roller coaster but I wouldn’t have it any other way..

Recently changed schools and program this fall from the school I came in with from Nigeria in March.

I’ll try as much as possible to be present here and share my little knowledge with anyone available..

Wishing everyone else that have applied and planned to apply a successful application.

Thanks BeejayB.

For the BA, did you fill/use locator form? Heard and read is not needed again. Kindly confirm cos I need first hand experience info.

No I didn’t fill any form. Didn’t do anything for arriving in UK since I didn’t stay long at the airport or go out of the airport

Hello house,

Who has flown or know someone who recently flew to Calgary via Ethiopian airline? Someone needs better understanding and how good their services are.

Or better still, best airline to Calgary from Lagos (cost should be put into consideration)

Thanks

Hello I used British Airways. I’m also in Calgary. We could meet up when you get in. About airlines don’t really have an idea because my uncle booked mine for me

Please help.

Is it advisable for me to apply for a diploma in business administration
in a Canadian school - it's a two years program.

Note:

1. I'm into business.
2. I had a BSc in biochemistry.

Yes. This is what I did
I’m also a biochemistry graduate. Applied for diploma in business administration. You just have to explain to them why you’re going for that and your experience in the business field.

Oh really? I searched Google on where to get the Antigen test in Lagos.

And I've not seen anything.

Any idea please? Thanks.

Please do PCR, they might be accepting antigen in canada now but trust me Naija airport staff will ask for PCR. You know it takes long for us to adjust to any change

Congrats BeejayB and thanks for sharing.
1. Please what is the enrollment letter?
2. What currency did you have the balance of your tuition you showed on your app?
3. Did you have to also show this at the Point Of entry?... I'm assuming POE means the airport in Canada. Is that right?

Enrollment letter is the letter you get from the school usually after you register for courses at the school.

The balance was in my naira account. The guy calculated it to CAD using a calculator.

Yeah POE is the airport in canada. And yes I opened my bank app and showed them the balance.

Hello
quick question
The officer at the border didn't ask you why you were come 2 month before resumption?
I'm asking this bcuz I'm planning on going July for my September classes
Is that an appropriate time?

He didn’t ask at all.. someone said it here few days ago that they cancelled that rule already.

Landing gist!!!
I got to the airport around 5.30 on March 9. They allowed my mum, aunt and uncle to enter with me after much persuasion..
As soon as we entered, the agriculture guys decided to check my bag and I payed 2k for declaration and a certificate I was given…

Next stop was British Airways desk. I weighed my stuff and had to do some rearrangements to avoid extra luggage payment. After that I went to the counter for my documents to be checked.
They asked for passport,Arrive can, PCR test, enrollment letter, and letter of acceptance .
Then I showed them the mail I sent to the school and their reply about how enrollment letter isn’t necessary. The lady sha wanted to be dragging with me. I know my rights. Enrollment letter isn’t really their business here and she took me to her boss and that one said I could check in without it..
She gave me a yellow card for immigration. I proceeded to get me boarding passes and off to meet my family.. this was around past 7.
Chilled with them till about 8 because it wasn’t easy for them just standing so I told them to leave and I proceeded to immigration. I was checked. Some men wanted to ask for money I said I didn’t have naira on me anymore.
Then to the boarding gates of British Airways. We were checked in at 9:56pm and boarded the flight at 10:48pm. Took off at exactly 11:26 to London Heathrow ..

Got to Heathrow at 4:40am (UK time). My layover is for 7 hours. Did the whole serenren of finding my gate for connecting flight and security checks.. Just ask questions if you need any help, they are always available to help. No go lost o. Lol
Settled down finally at 5:52am.. called family and friends and then walked around to get brush and paste because BA said they didn’t have. I settled down again, made lots of calls and went to get breakfast. Relaxed and waited for my flight to Toronto.. didn’t walk around much because I was tired..

And the boarding to Toronto began at 11:06am
The plane took off at 12.30pm. We had a few minutes delay . Food was still trash. British Airways need to do better with their meal plans.
Got to Toronto at 14:40 local time . I did the self declaration and proceeded to custom to declare what I had as food stuff .
Then proceeded to the almighty Border desk
I was asked for my letter of acceptance and tuition receipt. I had only payed deposit but showed them my bank app for the balance of my fees. I got my study permit
Then proceeded to the arrival Covid test cz I was selected. Luckily I had registered for switch health so it was easy..
Waiting presently for my connecting flight to Calgary. I’m so excited because I’ll be seeing my nephew for the first time since he was born 4 years ago and seeing my sister after 5 years.
Allihamdulilah
My class starts in May so I have time to get familiar with the place and spend time with my family.

I wish everyone the best.. feel free to ask me any questions
