Hello Tracy, I must commend you for this thread. I was accepted this morning for the August cohort. I did a quick google search to get people's review about the programme and I stumbled on this thread. I've read it from the beginning, and I must say that I've gotten the encouragement I need to start this program cos I was initially contemplating on how I'd be able to combine my job and this rigorous but promising program. You're really strong, combining two ALX programs plus your 8am - 8pm job, plus using your phone. Girl! How can I not be motivated? If you can, then I too can! Thank you once again and for the updates, please keep them coming.
PS: I would love to connect with people in same cohort or higher, so we can be accountability partners throughout the duration of this programme. |

I am curious why your relative has failed to come on this website to ask pertinent questions about his upcoming medical career. Why are you the middleman? Given that medical school programs are challenging and time-consuming, but your relative has graduated. (Thank GOD!). Why hasn't he or she finds it necessary to invest valuable time to ask questions regarding their about to start professional career? Just wondering. You took the words from my mouth seriously. I feel it'll be much more easier for the cousin in question to make this enquiries by himself/herself. |

Funnyafricans: Hello guys, I just stumbled on this thread. I need an advice if I can still meet up if I start admission process this week. Thanks. It depends on you. do you have all the requirements for application plus money? cos you have to apply, then wait for the school's decision before paying for tuition fee to get CAS then visa.(all these take time) You might not meet up with January intake but there's still April and September, depending on what course/level you're going for. Also, make use of Google for your school search to determine which is most suitable for you. You can also search "complete University guide 2021" and narrow it down to your course of choice for better decision. Good luck! |

justwise: Avoid student accommodation if you are on budget, private renting is a lot cheaper.
Regarding student part time jobs.. your focus should be on jobs like supermarket customer service assistant, care, warehouse associates, security guards etc.
After graduation job...get yourself any job fair app, register and you will be receiving job fair alerts around the UK , attend recruitment events as many as you can, you will get a lot of info and contact from companies Thanks @justwise This advise came right on time. |

wip7: Am happy to see you are progressing. However, before starting your project and learning how to publish or undertake a research, let talk about your proposed research.
The title of your research up there, has no direct connections with economics....does it ? Can you explain how it’s related to Economics? If not can you change it to research areas that reflects more towards Econs?
Also, don’t localized/nationalized (100%) your research area. Make the research topics have a balanced view (meaning should be applicable in local context, internationally useful, applicable to emerging and developed nations). This way you can easily publish your findings and can be useful to policy makers, researchers and students worldwide.
When you are done selecting newer research topics let me know so as to guide on how to start your literature and so on. Thanks Prof. The topic can be classified under Behavioral Economics, but as you pointed out I'd get back to you on topics that reflects more towards Economics. Once again, I'm grateful |

Hello @Prof Wip7 I have a Bachelor's degree in Education Economics, Msc in Development Economics. I'd love to start my PhD in Economics by fall next year, hopefully with a fully funded scholarship. I've chosen a research topic of interest "understanding career progression and promotion: a systematic review of actual career paths". But I don't really know how to start... Note, I don't have any publication yet. Any advice on the way forward will really be appreciated |

Education › Re: How To Achieve High Scores On The GRE by Beenkay(f): 12:32am On Nov 24, 2019 |
EconMajor: Hello, everyone! I guess this is my first post on this thread since 2017!
I took my first GRE in September 2017 in Port Harcourt. Total: 302. Quantitative: 149 Analytical Writing: 4.0
My second GRE was on August 9, 2019. Total: 311. Quantitative: 159 Analytical Writing: 4.5.
The major reasons why I improved my quantitative score by 10 points are because I used better materials to prepare and I was more serious with my second exam. I spent about 90% of my 3 months study period on quant because I knew that I can score at least 150 in verbal and 4 in Analytical writing without serious preparation. For quant preparation, I opened a Word file where I saved important formulas and techniques for further revision. This was important because I had key concepts under my belt during the exam. I didn't get my target score of 160 in the quantitative section but that's fine.
An important lesson I learned from my exams is that mastering good materials is an easy way to improve your score. Future test takers should prioritize Manhattan, Magoosh, ETS guide, ETS math review, ETS powerprep plus, and Princeton Review. Also, taking practice tests are helpful. I took about 12 full-length practice test before my exam and my average scores in these tests are quite close to my main score. You should also have a robust template for the essays, you don't want to spend 2 minutes thinking about how to start your essay.
Complacency and not using the right materials were my greatest undoings when I took my first exam. Fresh out of college with a top GPA, I took the powerprep exam and got 156 in the quantitative section without any preparation. I thought I could do well in GRE without serious preparation. My scores proved me wrong. Actually, I used 7 months to prepare but I wasn't serious, didn't master important techniques, and did no practice test. All in all, GRE doesn't care about your First Class. You have to respect the exam because it is not easy. Try to calm yourself down on the exam day by reminding yourself how well you have prepared and how competitive the other parts of your application are. If you let the GRE psych you out; you've already started failing!
Good luck to those planning to take the exam! Please I sent you mail |

My sister's CAPS still shows Admission in progress while some in same department are seeing admitted already. otokx: Congratulations, more and more people are seeing their names in JAMB CAPS, but more still need to approve their change of course initiated by the institution in JAMB CAPS to enable Admission processing. |

Sezua: In the whole world-Accounting. All these people shouting Economics i just wonder what point you have to back it up. Every reasonable company has an accounting department, or at least something similar to that. Ministries, Agencies, Schools and even Churches have an accounting department. So I don't even understand what these people are talking about. A lot of people who graduated as Economists still end up becoming accountants. it's cos they're in Nigeria that's why they end up becoming accountants... leave the shores of Nigeria, some accountants end up as economists |
