i will also say that fish farming is less stressfull than poultry. U feed them 3 to 4 times a day and change water twice a week, then sort biweekly.Chikena. Not like poultry dt u will be pampering like a new bride to know when it is happy or not, else, they start dieing in mass. Fish also doesnt have odour dt will disturb ur neighbours. With poultry, u try so hard to maintain an odorless farm

My friend had issue with his drainage and for 2 weeks, he did not change the water in his pond and nothing happened to the fishes , just with time, they stopped eating. U cannot try that wit poultry, else u go fear fear.

True it might be less stressful but sometimes d stress can be over whelming.

NB: i dnt knw wat cud av happened to ur frnd's drainage but dnt make it a habit to leave d fishes for two weeks wtout changing water. They will not and cannot do well with such practices.

All sizes cud mean anytin. You need to be more specific with d size. Give d various sizes and which of d sizes are more abundant.

The location i want to site the tank, which is farthest from d gen house , will have rain water from the zinc falling into d tank. Do you think it will affect d fish?

Must a fish pond be outside? can it be inside a house? Do u think the oxygen level inside a house will be ok for fish? i ask this question cos we have an unrented house in our compound that i know d landlord can give me if i ask him. The fish pond will also be secure in d house cos it will be under lock.

#secondly, the experience u will gain starting small will go a long way in acheiving success wen u do it on a larger scale.

#concerning d rain water, it wont affect ur fishes per se... But mind u, theres a disclaimer here, ur ponds/tanks will over-flow wt d slightest rain if its collecting water frm d roof. Also, dirt and other contaminants on d roof will flow straight into ur tanks.
#Feeds come in various sizes for d different sizes/stages of fish. I suggest u go through this thread to understand feed mgt. It has been dealt with extensively several times on d thread. The size of feed u give d fish will depend on the size of fish u av.
#You should feed ur fish till satiation! (dats one method of feeding and d most common method used here). U will notice dat dey are no more eating and den u stop. DON'T POLLUTE THE WATER WITH UNCONSUMMED FEED.
#For sorting, u can use nets, sieve, buckets, bowls etc. It all depends on how easy u want ur work to be. The essence is dat at d end of d day u dnt over stress d fishes and dey av been arranged in various sizes!
DONT WORRY, DEY WONT 'BITE' U IF U ENTER THE POND WEN D WATER IS DRAINED. They dnt even av teeth.
Fishes will attempt to 'come' for ur finger/hand if u put it in d water especially wen dey havent been fed. Its natural, dey tink its food.
I wont advice u enter a pond dats full of water and stocked with fishes bcoz u might panic and drown since u seem apprehensive abt d fishes biting. Be cautious and know ur limitations.

Fishery is good but you should patiently weigh ur options since you have little capital. Remember profit is not automatic (its much easier to make loss dan profit in fish farming) and if u av no prior experience it might not be easy sailing for u for ur first batch.
#first and foremost go through this thread and read it from the beginning before u even build ur ponds. Come back here and ask questions and pple will assist to the best of their knowledge.

You shd not change water after feeding or else dey will just vomit their feed.
The ideal ting is for u to change water first, allow dem rest to recover frm d stress of water change and den feed dem.

Is there any remedy for cannibalism?

I have fingerlings and juveniles but their rate of cannibalism is just too high. I use imported feeds but they still devour one another.
Is this normal or should I be worried?

I will suggest u go through this thread from the beginning so u av an idea of catfish feeds, feeding and other breeding managements. Dat way, u will understand d answer to ur question perfectly

condi1704: My Oga in the house, pls is it really possible to get fish of 2kg without feeding poultry waste like intestine, unhatched eggs, day old chicks. Those farmers in my area only get good result when use poultry waste in conjunction with local pellet, but bad and sometimes very bad result when use local pellet or Durante local pellet only throughout. pls any idea on how to achieve better result without those poultry waste is appreciated. Yes u can get dat weight wtout feeding poultry waste.

GGfadar: Yes, its okay to feed dem with plantain and banana leaves but pls compliment with dry cassava peels and corn residues from pap processing.

This is the picture of the tank I'm using and I have around 120 - 130 fish left in it but I seriously don't know how many liters it is. As for the water, I pour 10 (paint rubber buckets) for every change of water.

I mean dey won't just lay eggs in our pond and hatch. The eggs need to be artificially gotten and fertilised. There's a long process involved and so many parameters to be met before u can tink of spawning.
DAT tank looks like a 1000L tank (i might be mistaken). Will contain abt a 100 fishes.
Isn't it stressful fetching water to pour in d tank?

From my experience so far, I think its sth I would love to go into full time but I have a question in regards to what u said earlier. I make use of rubber tanks as my pond. How do I rear them to a stage where they procreate? Also, does space have anything to do with their growth rate?

SPACE is a major determining factor for good growth of ur fish and disease prevention. Wats d size of ur rubber tanks? U can in addition post a pix so we knw exactly how it looks like.

See ur dentist, ur gums are most likely infected(gingivitis). Might be very mild now, hence d absence of pain. Scaling and polishing with a mouthwash will help, deep scaling might be needed depending on ur presentation. Ur brushing technique needs to be reviewed too.
