excelsiorfarm: 10000 fishes, remember we spoke b4, lost can be made and even d margin can be wide, now reality- lets assume 3500 survived(GOD FORBID), lets assume they are v bad seed & they were fed, at harvest weighed 100g each i.e. 350kg(lets assume it was sold for 260 naira per kg), possible d hand on farm lied, wasnt buying d feed, theft, here aim talking on output in weight in relation to pricing. NOTE- you cannot be feeding 3500 fishes as u should be feeding, with good feed & d right quantity and they are eating all d feed(not wasted) over 4-6 months, depending on d fish seed grade u brought(fingerlings/juveniles) and get 50kg(no matter how bad seed is) i.e less than 20g per fish, if u aint on ground, calculation of event/happening can be doctored with d parameters given, i expect other guru/professionals to validate how a fish feeds adequately for that gestation & weight 20g(even if runt), pls weigh 20g on scale before u come to post

Well i dnt knw d full details behind d 10000fishes but I tink i agree with u. I dnt see how 10000 fishes no matter how poorly managed will raise just 40K . Unless the bulk of d fishes died or the person dat made sales didnt disclose the full amount to u.

In 2009, he was introduced to cat fish business buy some guy. The guy convinced him to buy fish and breed. He told him how lucrative it was and every other sweet talk you know. He never told him so many key things he needed. So my father ignorantly decided to go into it. He established the pond in nassarawa, in a village called Toto. yes I mean a village(that’s his first mistake). He established 4 ponds. Each having the ability to carry nothing less than 3,000 fishes. But at a certain time, he converted one of the ponds to reservoir (because we were short of thanks. We they sell water). One faithful day, GBOAAAHHH,the pond just burst and all d water in it were over d place(thank god say person no dey there because as d pond break, d thin push water with blocks enter all our room. If to say person dey near d pond nkoh………but thank god sha). So remaining three ponds. Now he stocked 5000 fishes in the three ponds. When the man brought the fishes, they where tiny and could not be counted. But still he stocked them sha(we were still novice). So we feed them for almost 4 months. Just feeding them with food and no extra knowledge on anything. Now my dad, as a retired custom officer decided to use his PENSION, yes, pension money take invest in all these things. Now the house we stay is a big house. There is a pure water factory in it and there is good clean water. We encountered these problems
Security—as important as it seems security brought us down. My step brother will always go into the pond, at night and steal the big ones and sell to different people at cheap rate (dat guy get mind ooo).
Feeds
--– we just dey buy food any how without knowing how many bags of feeds are we supposed to give them for that month. We later ventured into local feeds without knowing when and the time we were supposed to give them the local feeds. And again, I no know how my dad do am but him go buy corn, grinded fish, blood mean and d rest. Plenty ooo. We decided to mix them. We miss them with shovel sef.lol. My dad. He had plans but executed them terribly. So when we feed them with the local feeds we will see the feeds sink. then when we drain, we go see the feeds don dissolve for inside water. Dem no go eatam at all because we got the FORMULA all wrong. (I know that one now but its late already).
Marketing----very important. As I was saying, he constructed the pond in nassarawa. Dose villagers no know d values of anything fish sef. Dem go dey prizam any how dem like. So we decided to carry dem to the next city which is Abuja. From that village to Abuja na 800 naira drive. We took the fishes there. Hmmmm. We sold it all sha.
But it will shock you that after everything my dad said he spent 3.5million on everything but all he could get was 26,000 naira. Yes. U heard me twenty six thousand naira only. Now the man don dey broke like anything. Funny enough na now him con dey get the right information. When money no dey.lol
After about 3 yrs. I did my i.t at ADP i.e agricultural dev project. I was taken to fishery dept. hmmmmm, I learned few things. I told my dad all I learnt like say make d man cry lol. He said he wished he knew all these, I simply told him say it happens to everyone. That’s life. Like this my guy said he lost 2m in just 2 and half years. the pond has been abandoned for 4 years, so as a zoologist and someone that did his industrial training at a fish pond, I want to make my dad’s dreams come through again. I want to go back and start again. I need help. I need advice. Am just a 400l final year student. I will soon write my exams. I won go do this business again. Sorry to hear about ur dad's loss. I am sure u av learnt frm his mistakes and also learnt frm where u did ur IT.
Its good u av not given up hope and u are willing to take dat bold step and try again.
I will advise u go through this thread from page one. Make sure u read and understand everything. Use ur discretion in filtering out the irrelevant points. Ask questions as u read along and jot down points.
I will also advise u start on a small scale of about 500 fishes. It will enable u get more 1st hand experience.

ab1x: The quantities applied in 100KG does not have any side effect on your fish. The right quantity per 100KG is 1KG but you can reduce to 0.5 to reduce the cost of ur feed. 1KG is 700 naira. Lysine too worth 700 naira per KG. 1KG is not too much because that is what i used for a starter and as time goesby I ignore it to reduce cost of production.

I can make a starter without lysine or premix but the most important of them all is vitc, if u didnt add it to ur feed formula, it can make ur fish have crackhead which might result to sickness hitherto death.

In summary, wat u are saying is dat as d fishes grow i can safely do wtout premix and lysine in their feed?

How important is fish premix in formulated feeds?
I see some formulars with as much as 1Kg premix per 100kg feed and others as little as 0.3gms and 0.1gms per 100kg. Wats d recommended quantity in 100kg feed?

Question 2: whats the recommended quantity of Lysine in 100kg formulated feed?

Why not just stick to d local and see if there will be improvement in weight diz time. Instead of the soyabean meal, add whole wheat and increase ur maize for more carbohydrate to make dem weigh more.

You are feeding dem with too many tingz at d same time. They need to get used to a particular taste before dey start rushing it. I hope ur 6mm ia okay for them to pick up.
My advice: give dem clean water and starve dem for dat day.Start feeding dem gradually with Durante frm the next day and in about 3 days time dey will be rushing for d Durante. Dont confuse dem wt coppens. Either u stick wt coppens or go with durante.

@ab1x, are ur premix, lysine and Floxinor 100gms?

Im concerned about the use of floxinor in ur feed especially since thats wat u will feed ur fishes with till d fishes are sold. I believe there is usually a time interval wen all drugs given to an animal must be stopped before human consumption.

jamp: It takes about 800-1000 to rear a birds till it start laying and this depend on some factors like type of feed , doctor and the vaccines .
