PoliticsBREAKING: Akinlade breaks silence, applies for tribunal judgement by bellachibaby(op): 4:45pm On Sep 16, 2019
The Governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement, Adekunle Akinlade, has broken his silence over his loss at the state Governorship election petitions tribunal.

Akinlade said he had applied for a Certified True Copy of the tribunal judgement on Monday with a view to knowing the next steps to be taken.

The APM Governorship candidate, stated this on Monday, during a press conference held at the party Secretariat along Abiola Way, Abeokuta.

A three-man election petitions tribunal on Saturday had dismissed his petition filed against the victory of the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun, at the March 9, 2019 election in the state.

He explained that the application for a copy of the judgement was to enable his lawyers to study the content of the judgement and advise him appropriately.

He, however, hinted on his rejection of the judgement of the three-man tribunal, claiming that the decision of the tribunal did not reflect what was presented before it during the trial.

He said, “The verdict gave us a setback, truth must be told. They said we did not vote .  What happened on Saturday was a display of an authority which possesses both the truth and falsehood.

“We have applied for a copy of the judgement and once we get the copy, our lawyers will study it thoroughly and advise appropriately.

“It is not what we took to the tribunal that was decided on.”

Speaking further on the judgment, Akinlade said, “You might buy the judgement but you cannot buy God’s judgement.

“I  am proud to have run as governor and I have said many times that, the will of the people must not be subdued.

“We are going to explore all the constitutional rights we have in our constitution to protect our mandate “.

SportsArsenal made a mistake for selling Alex Iwobi Arsenal Legend Nwankwo Kanu by bellachibaby(op): 1:28pm On Sep 10, 2019
Arsenal and Nigerian football legend, Nwankwo Kanu has attacked his former club for selling Super Eagles star Alex Iwobi to Everton for £30million.

The 23-year-old winger was sold to the rival club in a shock move on transfer deadline day. He has since scored twice in three games for his new club since leaving his boyhood team after 149 games.

Speaking on Iwobi's move to Everton , Kanu said: 'I would say they made a mistake, 100 per cent. Why they let him go, I don't know

'He's a boy who, in and out, is Arsenal. He always wanted to do his best for the club. He loves the club, but not only that he can play football. What he brings week in, week out, the fans need to appreciate that.

'I think he is still young and those are the type of people you want in the team, people who grew up here, who knows everything about the club and wants to die for the club.

'He was one of them, so for us to lose him and to let him go, was a shock. I couldn't really believe we did it, but that's football.'

Kanu also said if he had knew about the move on time, he would have advised Iwobi to remain in north London.

'It was a surprise to everybody because it happened right at the end of the window,' said Kanu. 'If I knew earlier, I could have said to him not to go and that it was better for him to stay.

'I would have said that there was no need for him to go because at Arsenal he will still play. He's that good and he needs to know that.

'I think Arsenal would have been the best place for him because it's a big club and you want to play in a big club and in Europe. Those are the games you want to play.'

PoliticsCCB To Verify Makinde’s N48bn Assets, Others by bellachibaby(op): 8:25am On Sep 09, 2019
The Code of Conduct Bureau has commenced verification of the N48bn assets declared by Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

Makinde had declared the N48bn assets in June.

The director of the bureau in Oyo State, Mr Bisi Atolagbe, said this in Ibadan during a meeting of the South-West states’ directors of the bureau with the member representing the region on the CCB board, Prof. Samuel Ogundare.

Atolagbe has said a few weeks ago that his office had forwarded the assets estimates to the bureau’s headquarters in Abuja.

However, Atolagbe said on Saturday that the exercise had commenced, adding that the process might not be concluded so quickly given the technical parts of the verification.

He said, “Work has started in the verification of the content of declaration submitted by Governor Seyi Makinde. At the right time, the report will be available. It is not about noise making but technically doing the work to ascertain assets that are declared. However, I must point out that the process is not a public exercise.

“The governor has not committed any crime by declaring his assets. It is just to ascertain what he has declared; to check if they are not anticipatory.”

Ogundare said there had been a near 100 per cent compliance to CCB regulations by current and former public office holders in the South-West. He explained that both the newly sworn-in political office holders and those whose tenure ended on May 29 in the zone had made their pre-service and post-service assets declarations.

He said former governors Abiola Ajimobi (Oyo State), Akinwunmi Ambode (Lagos State) and Ibikunle Amosun (Ogun State) and their deputies had declared their current assets.

He said, “Our governors in the South-West have shown good examples in compliance. They have done what the constitution requires them to do before and after occupying office. Since the governors and their deputies showed good examples, almost all state lawmakers and appointees have also complied.”

T.B. Joshua, who shed tears during the service said: “If we cannot understand ourselves as Africans, how will other continents understand us.

“Dear Africans, we should not let fellow Africans feel unwelcomed in our countries.

PoliticsXenophobia: South African Citizens Should Be Expelled From Nigeria-ffk by bellachibaby(op): 7:22am On Sep 09, 2019
Former Aviation Minister, Femi Fani-Kayode has called for the expulsion of all South African citizens from Nigeria following a renewed protest against Nigerians.

Nigerians and other nationals in South Africa were on Sunday asked to leave immediately.

Residents of hostels in eastern Johannesburg marched along Jules Street in the area, demanding that “foreigners must go back to where they came from”.

Reacting, Fani-Kayode called on the Nigerian government to expel South Africans from the country and nationalise all South African companies that are operating in Nigeria.

He also called on President Muhammadu Buhari’s government to retaliate the attacks and break up diplomatic ties with South Africa.

In a series of post on his Twitter page, Fani-Kayode wrote: “In Johannesberg, the xenophobic madness has started again. Well organised and well-armed South African mobs and killer squads are marching in the streets calling for all foreigners to leave and looking for Nigerians to kill.

“How long do we have to put up with this state-sponsored violence and extreme provocation? Will we turn the other cheek forever? Who will defend mother Nigeria and who will fight for us? Is our blood so easy to spill and are our lives so cheap? What is our government doing?

“What are our Armed Forces there for if not to protect our lives and defend our honour and people? The South African Government has openly ENCOURAGED and openly SUPPORTED this great evil and the mass murder of our compatriots! Enough is enough.

“We cannot be expected not to retaliate in the streets of Nigeria! You cannot kill our people and expect yours to go free on our shores or for your companies to have peace and security in our nation. For every action, there is a reaction that is the law of nature and the world.

“If you shed innocent blood it will come back to you! I call for the expulsion of all South African citizens from Nigeria, the nationalisation of all South African companies that are operating in Nigeria, the breaking up of diplomatic ties with South Africa.

“A recall and relocation of all our citizens that live in South Africa back home to Nigeria and, if the targeting and killing of our citizens do not stop, an apology offered and compensation paid by the South African Government, a declaration of total war with South Africa.”

CrimeBREAKING: Two Stabbed In Renewed Xenophobic Attacks In South Africa by bellachibaby(op): 5:42pm On Sep 08, 2019
Two persons were stabbed on Sunday in a resurgence of xenophobic protests in Johannesburg, South Africa

The President, Nigerian Union South Africa, Adetola Olubajo, confirmed this to our correspondent in a telephone interview.

He however could not speak on the nationalities of the victims or the severity of the injuries as the police had yet to reveal the identities of the victims.

Olubajo said, “It’s confirmed that two people were stabbed at a ‘taxi rank’ and Jeppe Road in Johannesburg Central Business District and we have informed the Consul-General of Nigeria in Johannesburg and the police in Jeppestown.

“I’m not sure (of their nationalities) as the police have taken them to hospital. Their identities were not disclosed. The police are using rubber bullets to disperse them.”

According to the NUSA president, there was a meeting on Sunday morning which the police minister was supposed to address.

He said a popular South African activist, Mangosuthu Buthelezi, addressed the South Africans, calling for peace, but some of the protesters got angry and left.

Olubajo added, “Now, they are chanting ‘foreigners must go’ with some dangerous weapons in their hands. They have moved from Jeppestown to Braamfontein even to the CBD Taxi Rank in town.

“Though we have been monitoring the incident for the past three hours now, police have not been able to disperse them. Our fear is that they may start looting again in the night.

“We have sent an alert to the Nigerians. Immediately, we used our various social media platforms to do that. We sent it to our structures and the entirety of Nigerians. Most Nigerians are aware of this by now because there are photos and videos, and it is also televised by SABC.”

He noted that a lot of Nigerians lived in the affected area though some had relocated because last Sunday’s looting and vandalism of Nigerian businesses by South Africans occurred in the same area.

“Quite a number of our people live around Jeppestown and Fountain. We are talking about Johannesburg, which is very big but Jeppestown is close to the eastern part of Johannesburg.

“Jules Street is closer to them; it’s a major road they would take to the CBD. Taxi Rank is the major bus stop there. They have virtually captured that taxi rank and Braamfontein,” Olubajo explained.

The management said the salary and other benefits/allowances are as approved by the Ogun State Government of Nigeria for the Teaching Hospital.

We reported that Governor Dapo Abiodun of Ogun State, had Monday approved the immediate recruitment of resident doctors at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.

It was reported that also to be recruited are nurses, pharmacists, laboratory scientists and all other categories and cadres of healthcare professionals needed at the hospital.

However, some indigenes of Ogun State opined that government should not be charging job seekers in the state; maintaining that qualified unemployed youths who may not have money to obtain the application form would be automatically disqualified.

The multi-nationals, government and other good Bayelsans should assist us in building back the bridge so we have free access to Yenagoa. Even commuters will suffer and waste more time.

Heavy-duty trucks pass here every day in their numbers but now that it is broken let us see how they will pass. Sometimes we tell them but nobody will respond.

PoliticsAkwa Ibom Election Tribunal: PDP Wins APC In Court by bellachibaby(op): 6:58pm On Sep 05, 2019
The National Assembly Election Petition Tribunal sitting in Oyo, Akwa Ibom State, on Thursday upheld the election of Senaator Bassey Albert for Akwa Ibom North-East (Uyo) Senatorial District.

The Tribunal also upheld the victory of Hon. Unyime Idem for Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency and that of Nse Ekpenyong of Oron/Udung Uko/Urueffong Oruko/Mbo/Okobo federal constituency.

The three-member tribunal sitting at the State Sanitation Court Complex in Uyo ruled in favor of the Respondents who are all members of the People Democratic Party (PDP).

The tribunal cited the inability of petitioners to prove allegations of criminality and non-compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act, as contained in their petitions.

Bassey Etim, the candidate and his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), had told the tribunal that Bassey Albert of the PDP was not elected by majority of lawful votes; not qualified to contest the National Assembly elections as his documents were falsified; and that his emergence was by reason of corrupt practices; and non-compliance with the Electoral Act by the Independent National Electoral Commission

The petitioners, who were represented at the tribunal by Reuben Egwaba Esq, relied on Section 140(3) to urge that the tribunal nullifies the election of Senator Bassey Albert and declare Mr. Bassey Etim as the winner.

In the alternative, Etim called on the tribunal to order a fresh election and exclude the PDP and Senator Bassey Albert from contesting.

However, Counsel to the PDP, O. B. Akpan Esq and that of the 1st Respondent Mr.Solomon Umoh SAN represented by M. D. Gwaison, submitted that the petitioners, who made wild criminal allegations of falsification of documents and noncompliance with electoral act, did not tender any other document to prove their claim.

Barr Akpan also said that a witness subpoenaed by the Petitioner, S. O. Ibrahim, Deputy Director, Legal Department of INEC had testified that Senator Albert satisfied INEC’s screening to contest the elections and that no reports have been received by INEC from WAEC or any of the institutions denying any document submitted by Senator Albert.

On votes acquired by Senator Albert, the respondents held that “the Petitioners submitted polling unit results as Exhibits P1-P317 and P320-P821 but merely dumped them at this Tribunal without linking any to their Petition during the trial.

“All witnesses of the Petitioners including the Petitioner only relied on hearsay in their Witness Statements. They confirmed on cross-examination that they only received reports from agents,” maintaining that they were unable to pinpoint units of which INEC did not comply with the provisions of the Electoral Act.

“On lawful votes, the Petitioners carefully avoided and abandoned their pleadings without giving any evidence, written or oral to prove how Senator Albert was not returned elected”.

Similarly, the election of Hon. Unyime Idem was also upheld on the ground that evidence of Petitioners and their witnesses were based on hearsay from polling unit agents, without substantial evidences.

In proof of their petition, the petitioners called only three (3) witnesses, PW1 – Aniebiet Sunday Idung, PW2 – Friday Thomas Uwa, PW3 – Emmanuel Ukoette

However, the Tribunal upheld the argument of the respondents that, “all grave criminal allegations must be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. Witnesses can only give evidence at polling units where they voted”.

The tribunal agreed with the 1st and 2nd respondents that the election into House of Representatives for the Ukanafun/Oruk Anam Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State was conducted by the 3rd Respondent in compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended) and 2019 General Elections Guidelines and Regulations in the discharge of its constitutional function.

The Tribunal also ordered the Petitioner, Emmanuel Ukoette to pay Hon. Idem the sum of one hundred thousand naira (N100, 000).

Similarly, the petition brought before the tribunal by Mr. Victor Antai of the APC challenging the victory of Chief Nse Ekpenyong of the PDP for Oron Federal Constituency was dismissed for lacking in merit.

As at the time of this report, the ruling was being awaited for the Uyo Federal Constituency seat where Mr. Ekerete Ekpenyong of the APC is challenging the victory of Mr. Michael Enyong of the PDP in the February 23, 2019, national assembly election.
