PoliticsOrji Kalu Under Fire Over Claim Of Pioneering Ruga Settlement As Abia Governor by bellachibaby(op): 5:42pm On Jul 16, 2019
Former Commissioner for Agriculture in Abia state and a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ugwu Rocks Emma, Tuesday, lambasted the current Senator representing Abia North district in the National Assembly, Chief Orji Uzor Kalu, over his claim that he (Kalu) provided land for the resettlement of Fulani herders when he served as Governor of Abia.

The lawmaker, who is a member of the ruling All Progressives Congress, during an interaction with the Senate Press Corps on Friday in Abuja, stressed that as governor, he provided land for Fulani settlement in Umuahia.

“I provided land for herders in Umuahia during my time as governor of Abia State where cattle were brought from the North for sale across the South-East and there were no problems,” he had said.

But, the ex-Commissioner, while reacting in a statement made available to newsmen, in Umuahia, the state capital, on Tuesday, countered Kalu’s claims, pointing out that the former governor lied that he provided land for Ruga Settlement for Fulani herdsmen when he was governor of the state.

The statement reads, “The has become necessary in order not to allow the Nigerian public and the world be deceived by a Senator who should know better than to paint his Constituency Black. It is either the Senator does not understand RUGA or he has his reasons for trying to mislead the Nation. As a Commissioner for Agriculture, the place Orji Kalu is talking about (Lokpanta cattle market) was under my Ministry. Certain activities there also concerned the Ministry of Commerce. It is simply a cattle market transferred from the Old Gariki (Garki) near Amuzukwu Umuahia.

“There are no Schools, hospitals, Network of roads, FGN-Assited- Community -Infrastructure and no permanent residency. It was because of the nuisance this Garki (pronounced as GARIKI) was causing Umuahia residents that informed relocating the trade to Ubakala. The traders did not like it and Imo State gave them a place at Okigwe along Enugu-Port Harcourt expressway, thereby blocking the accruing revenue to Abia. Governor Orji Kalu then went further the express to Lokpanta and provided space for the cattle market, thereby collecting the revenue before it will get to Okigwe/Imo State.

“Today, that spot is the most nasty spot from Enugu to Port Harcourt . The cattle traders are tenants and not Landlords. Yet, it is home to the worst type of indiscipline and disregard to public safety to users of the expressway. RUGA would mean Lokpanta times 5000 in Land and times 1,000,000 in infrastructure. Security risk would mean times 5000 times 1,000,000. The Senator should consider this to realise what he is wishing his people. But it is obvious he has misunderstood Ruga Gariki is not Ruga. Enugu gariki was there before Lokpanta . Others too.

“So if gariki is Ruga , Orji Kalu was not the one who established it in the South East. Again, for those irked by his support for Ruga and advising him to make land available in Igbere or Bende LGA of Abia State, he does not have our mandate to do that. I know our position on Ruga. As a former Elected Chairman of Bende LGA and a major Stakeholder, I speak authoritatively on this matter.

“For emphasis, Trading Spots along major highways are not the same as the proposed (but suspended and really should be cancelled) Ruga Settlement. If not , Ore along Lagos-Benin, Oboloafor along Enugu-Markudi, Umunede along Onitsha-Benin-Lagos, Lokoja along Kogi-Abuja expressways would all be called Ruga Settlements. My advise therefore to the Senator is to come home and flow with his people who have said NO TO RUGA.”

PoliticsCries About Insecurity In Nigeria Political – Buratai by bellachibaby(op): 7:02am On Jul 16, 2019
The Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, has declared that insecurity has been tamed across the country by the Nigerian army.

He stated that “all these cries of insecurity which some groups and individuals are taking it as a political game, I think they should have a rethink because it is no longer the case.”

He spoke during a visit to the troops stationed at 1 Division Super Camp in Kuyello, Birnin Gwari in Kaduna on Monday.

He said that the efforts of the military in the northeast and northwest, as well as other parts of the country, had reduced insecurity in the country, NAN reports.

Buratai restated that both the banditry in the northwest and Boko Haram insurgency in the northeast have been tactically defeated.

He warned that those playing politics with the security situations in the country should desist, adding that the army would not hesitate to take action against them.

According to him, there has been no major attacks in the last two tp three weeks because of the new strategy.

”Apart from some isolated remote areas as a result of some other factors, the attacks have drastically reduced.

”That means we are winning and it is a great success which people should be assured.

”Insecurity has been tamed right now in the northeast and in the northwest and even in other areas we are doing so well.

”Our troops are deployed in support of the government, civil police and indeed the civil authorities,” he said.

PoliticsCishan Reacts After Nurse Exposed Identity Of HIV Patients At Her Hospital by bellachibaby(op): 8:48am On Jul 13, 2019
The Civil Society for HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (CiSHAN), has started off an investigation and a petition to relevant authorities against the nurse who exposed the identites of HIV patients at the hospital she works with in Rivers State.

CiSHAN condemned the act which they say will not only encourage other people to stigmatize and discriminate against people living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria, but will also increase the already high stigma index in the country. It also revealed that preliminary investigation revealed that the nurse's name is Deborah Chinasa Anaba, and not Ejimbe Lilian as claimed in her Facebook handle.

The statement reads in full;

The attention of the Civil Society for HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (CiSHAN) has been drawn to the purported social media publication by a practicing Nurse who goes by the name Ejimbe Lilian targeted at perpetuating stigma and discrimination against People Living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.

Most worrisome is the fact that this Nurse is a licensed and trained health care professional who is under oath of confidentiality to protect both the identity of her patients and the sanctity of her profession. This singular act will not only encourage other people to stigmatize and discriminate against people living with HIV/AIDS in Nigeria but will also increase the already high stigma index in the country.

Knowing that there is an Anti-Stigma and Discrimination Law in Nigeria, CiSHAN has conducted a preliminary investigation and made the following findings:

1. Her real name is Deborah Chinasa Anaba

2. She is a Staff Nurse with Nobsams Hospital 44 Trans Amadi Industrial Layout, Port Harcourt. Our State Coordinator visited the hospital to verify her real identity and matched the online pictures with the picture Hospital and her colleagues in the same hospital

3. The Medical Director of the Hospital is trying to shield her from being arrested and prosecuted

4. River State Government through the Ministry of Health has been collaborating with the Civil Society and Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS to fish-out this unfortunate poster and bring her to justice using the Anti Stigma Law.

With these preliminary findings, we have planned the following actions

1. A petition to Rivers Commissioner of Police for her immediate arrest and prosecution in accordance with the Anti-Discrimination Law

2. A petition to the Registrar of Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria regarding the breech of ethical conduct and subsequent withdraw of her Nursing License/blacklisting

3. A letter to Federal Ministry of Health/PEPFAR/WHO/ River State Government to immediately investigate the treatment program in the facility and close it down to avoid further discrimination by the hospital management and staff as we suspect that Management is actively aware of her actions hence the shield, they are providing for her.

4. From her immediate family, we demand an unreserved apology to the HIV community in Nigeria.

On this Note, we want to emphasize and further educate the general public that it is an offence to disclose someone HIV status to another person without their written and documented permission. Anyone found contravening this is stigmatizing and thereby commits an offence punishable under the Anti Stigma Law enacted into law on 28th November 2014.

We urge Civil Society and PLHIV Members to remain calm as we will ensure that justice is done appropriately.

Thank you

Civil Society for HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (CiSHAN)

Frequent heavy downpour in Hadejia town of Jigawa State have resulted in the submerging of five primary and junior secondary schools in the area, an official said on Friday.

“Under the new arrangement, the host school’s students will have their lessons in the morning, while students from the affected schools will attend lessons in the evening.

“I have already reported the incidents to the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) in Dutse.

Also commenting on the development, Information Officer in the council, Alhaji Mohammad Garba-Talaki, said the Council’s Chairman, Alhaji Abdullahi Maikanti, had visited the affected schools.

PoliticsI Know Politicians Who Have Suddenly Turned Billionaires – Amaechi by bellachibaby(op): 7:12pm On Jul 12, 2019
A former Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, has stated that Nigeria is a country without consequences, adding that citizens and voters have failed to hold politicians and leaders accountable for their actions and policies.

Amaechi said that he knows politicians who have suddenly turned billionaires few months after taking up political positions.

Amaechi who is also a former governor of Rivers State stated this during a panel session at the fifth edition of The Nigeria Symposium For Young and Emerging Leaders held in Lagos on Friday.

Speaking on ineffective policies and extreme poverty, Amaechi explained that the country’s wealth has been in the pocket of an influential few and called for politicians to invest in infrastructure in order to create jobs and reduce crime.

“I know politicians who have suddenly become billionaires, and this is the money that should have been used to build roads and provide amenities that could have been used to improve the lives of citizens. Our politicians have to be clear on how they intend to lift people out of poverty,” he said.

Also commenting on citizen participation, a former presidential candidate, KOWA, Professor Remi Shonaiya, added,“We have to educate ourselves in order to become more active, and we have to begin to consider the greater good in our decisions.

“Most of us don’t care about what is happening in the House of Assembly, we are much more concerned about ourselves. The focus has to be on the people, not the government. But we as the people also have to make sure that we hold our leaders accountable to us. There’s too much personal style in the way we practice politics in the country,” said Professor Shonaiya.

SportsSouth Africans Hail Chukwueze, Ndidi by bellachibaby(op): 9:16am On Jul 12, 2019
South Africans on Thursday hailed Nigeria’s Samuel Chukwueze and Winfred Ndidi for their outstanding performances in their 2-1 quarter-final triumph over Bafana Bafana at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

Chukwueze was in blistering form scoring the game’s opener before William Troost-Ekong sealed the hard-fought win with a late striker to send Nigeria to the semi-finals.

The South Africans took to social media to express their delight at the displays of both players, who played major roles in the victory.

Xolani Yamani said, “The game was not for Thamsanqa Mkhize, and other players. They find it difficult to mark the Nigerian wingers. Ndidi took over the midfielder.”

“The pace from Nigerian wingers was too much. Even Sifiso Hlanti struggled against Chukwueze,” Itist Shego added.

The South Africans also blamed coach Stuart Baxter for playing “wrong tactics” in the game.

One of them, Zukisani said, “We never looked like the team that wanted to win. Honestly, I didn’t see where the goal could come from.”

PoliticsTo DEDICATE A PAGE NIGERIAN PASSPORT TO RDSMEN IS AN INSULT – FEMI FANI KAYODE by bellachibaby(op):
Former Nigeria’s aviation minister Femi Fani Kayode has insisted that the picture of herders embossed on the Nigerian passport remains a collective insult on the entire country.

General Overseer of the Omega Fire Ministries, Apostle Johnson Suleiman, had drawn the Nation’s attention to an inscription of herdsmen on new Nigerian passports.

While posting on his twitter handle, the cleric described it as shameful that that a certain extraction now represents a nation with six geopolitical zones.

Reacting, Fani-Kayode shared the same sentiments with the cleric while describing it as an insult on the Nigerian people.

“Fulani herdsmen are symbols of bloodshed, terror, mass murder, ethnic-cleansing,genocide,carnage, torment, trauma and evil. They represent nothing but cruelty, suffering, land-grabbing,church-burning,raping and pillaging and are instruments of occupation, domination and conquest.

They have slaughtered more Nigerians over the last 4 years than BokoHaram have done in 10 and they have been designated as the 4th most deadly terrorist org. in the world by the int. community. We must consider all this in the light of the composition of our new passport.

To dedicate a page of our passport to them and paste their picture on it represents the biggest and most gratuitous insult to the Nig. people that has ever been served. It’s like dedicating a page of the Israeli passport to Hitler and the Nazis that slaughtered 6 million Jews.” Said FFK

bellachibaby:
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has set up a panel to probe its members role  in the outcome of the June 11 National Assembly leadership election.

The main opposition is set to dig into how its members voted against its decision to back Senator Ali Ndume for the President of the Senate and Mr Umar Bago for Speaker of the House of Representatives.

The results of the elections in the two chambers indicated that many PDP members voted for Dr. Ahmed Lawan as Senate President and Mr Femi Gbajabiamila as Speaker of the House.

The PDP yesterday inaugurated a 10-man committee to investigate why some of its members in the bicameral legislature failed to abide by its decision.

The committee, which is chaired by a former Senate President Adolphus Wabara, also has Senators Ben Obi, Ibrahim Mantu, Stella Omu and Abdul Ningi as members.

Other members of the committee are: Mr Yunana Iliya, Mrs Margaret Icheen, Mr Hassan Hyatt, Mr Austin Opara with Prof. Wale Oladipo as Secretary.

The committee is also mandated to find out whether there was any influence of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the flouting of the directive of the PDP by the opposition lawmakers.

One of the committee’s terms of reference is to find out and recommend ways to checkmate such tendencies in the future and ensure that all members work together to defend the interest of the party at all times and circumstances.

PDP’s Deputy National Chairman Elder Wole Akinwonmi inaugurated the committee on behalf of the National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus.

He said: “The National Executive Committee (NEC), the National Working Committee (NWC) and indeed the party have the highest confidence and optimism that you will work for the actualisation of the terms of reference with the intent of defending and moving the party forward.”

Wabara said the assignment was a very serious one, promising on behalf of his team that the assignment would be diligently carried out to ensure that PDP members in the National Assembly remained intact and loyal to the party.

The committee was given three weeks to submit its report.

Also, a team of prominent members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of the PDP, on Tuesday, raised a separate committee with a mandate to resolve the current leadership crisis rocking the party’s caucus in the House of Representatives.

A Third Republic Senate President Dr Iyorchia Ayu is the chairman of that panel.

Other members are: former Senate President David Mark, Senator Adolphus Wabara, Senator Ibrahim Mantu and a former House of Representatives Deputy Speaker Austin Opara.

bellachibaby:
The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the February 23 presidential election, Atiku Abubakar, has raised the alarm on over the nation’s N25.6trn debt, saying it’s unsustainable.

Atiku said the increasing debt profile of the country is becoming more than a source of concern, adding that the situation has got to a stage where all genuine lovers of Nigeria ought to raise an alarm. Thickmatch reports'

Atiku, in a statement Wednesday by his media adviser, Paul Ibe, recalled that the nation’s debt profile as of May 29, 2015 when President Muhammadu Buhari took over, was ₦12 trillion.

“However, after four years of profligate spending, and even more irresponsible borrowing, our national debt doubled to ₦24.3 trillion by December, 2018.

“As alarming as this is, what is more troubling is that between December 2018 and March 2019, the administration of General Buhari added an additional and unprecedented ₦560 billion debt to our national debt profile.

“What could this junta have needed that amount for? If you take those dates into account, they fall on the period of electioneering, when monies were freely distributed by officials of this government in the name of Tradermoni and other election gimmicks that were discontinued after the election”, Atiku added.

The one time Vice President said it’s inconceivable that Nigeria could have had such unprecedented borrowings in the midst of almost unimaginable sorrowing.

This, he observed, has resulted in the country becoming the world headquarters for extreme poverty and the global capital of out of school children, noting further that Nigeria has slipped in the Corruption Perception Index of Transparency International.

Continuing, Atiku said, “As someone who headed the National Economic Council that paid off Nigeria’s entire debt under the visionary leadership of President Olusegun Obasanjo, Atiku Abubakar has the moral authority to call those who are turning Nigeria into a beggar nation to halt the drift into unsustainable borrowing.

“We cannot continue to borrow to pay salaries and support luxuries. Already, over 50% of our revenue is going towards debt servicing, not even debt repayments.

“We raise this alarm as responsible citizens and call on other lovers of Nigeria to speak up as we have no other nation to call our home, but Nigeria”
