BusinessNigerian Returns $80K Bitcoins Transferred To Him In Error by bellachibaby(op): 10:20am On Sep 20, 2019
Radio France Internationale has reported the story of a Nigerian who returned to its rightful owner $80,000 worth of bitcoins mistakenly transferred to his account. Amidst reports of some bad Nigerians, this is a story worth to share and cheer:

Keith Mali Chung: a honest Nigerian
A Nigerian who found $80,000 dollar’s worth of bitcoin had been mistakenly transferred to him, has returned it to the owner.

Keith Mali Chung woke up to find 7.8 bitcoins in his account. That is the equivalent of $80,000 or €72,302. He immediately began trying to track down the owner of the bitcoins.

Bitcoin is the original digital currency that is exchanged between users online.

“I trade in bitcoin, but never such a high amount,” Mali Chung explains on the phone from the Nigerian capital, Abuja and continues, “I knew it had to be a mistake so I posted an announcement via some WhatsApp groups to track down the owner.”

Three days passed and no-one responded, so Mali Chung took to Twitter to track down the owner. That prompted a response from someone who had the correct encryption code for the transaction.

Please RT,

I received huge sum of BTC from an unknown sender and it’s definitely a mistake from someone I must have had transaction with before, Kindly DM me time of transaction, your adress and exact digits sent..

thank you. Kindly retweet

Bitcoin Keith (The African Bitcoin Bull) (@BitcoinKeith) September 12, 2019

The owner of the bitcoins mistakenly transferred to Mali Chung is a Nigerian politician who has asked to remain anonymous.

Nigeria is plagued by political cronyism, and consistently ranks among the lowest 20 percent on Transparency International’s Corruption Perception Index..

In June, the Paris-based Financial Action Task Force announced that cryptocurrency firms will be subjected to rules to prevent the abuse of digital coins such as bitcoin for money laundering.

The move by FATF, which groups countries from the United States to China and bodies such as the European Commission, reflects growing concern among international law enforcement agencies that cryptocurrencies are being used to launder the proceeds of crime.

Potential of bitcoin

Crypto currencies are becoming increasingly popular in Nigeria where bank charges are high. On Tuesday 17 September, the Central Bank of Nigeria introduced a 2 percent charge on cash deposits over 500,000 Naira (€1250) in several states, and 3 percent on withdrawals of the same amount.

Although these charges are aimed making Nigeria a cashless society, they are also pushing ordinary people, as well as the elites, to find other ways to transfer money digitally.

Mali Chung travels around Nigeria giving free workshops about the potential of bitcoin and other crypto currencies.

“People are especially interested in learning about international transfers to avoid bank fees,” Mali Chung has observed. “People in the Diaspora use it to send money home, and people here also transfer bitcoin to relatives abroad.”

The Central Bank of Nigeria has yet to regulate crypto currency transactions. Mali Chung’s benevolent act has sparked a debate about the potentially positive and negative use of crypto currencies in a country with an ominous reputation in the world of banking and for political corruption.

PoliticsFalana Warns Against Illegal Agreement With Foreign Nations by bellachibaby(op): 7:12am On Sep 19, 2019
Activist lawyer Mr Femi Falana (SAN) has warned Nigeria against entering into what he called illegal agreements in billions of dollars with foreign countries that may be challenged and set aside.

The lawyer addressed reporters in Abuja on the decision of Western Sahara to challenge the “illegal” importation of tonnes of phosphates and other natural resources from their country into Nigeria by Morocco.

He advised Nigerian government to be weary of agreements and treaty it signed with Morocco as such violates the rights of the Saharawi people.

Falana nFrom Tony Akowe, Abujaoted that none of the treaties and agreements signed between Nigeria and Morocco could be enforced in the country as the Nigerian government had not deposited same with the National Assembly to adopt and enact them into law, as required by Section 12 of the Nigerian Constitution.

The lawyer warned parties entering into such agreements to immediately cancel them and “respect the human rights of the people of Western Sahara to enjoy their natural resources, as recognised by article 20 and 21 of the African Charter on Human and People’s Rights”.

He added: “We are going to start with Nigeria because currently, tonnes of phosphates are being imported into the country from Western Sahara on the basis of illegal agreements between the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Kingdom of Morocco as well as certain companies. We are warning such parties and we are alerting them to the decision of the people of Western Sahara to defend their rights to their resources.”

I thought the rule says ''you're responsible for any post you made on Nairaland''. so many of my trends are being changed by the moderators, for no justifiable reason know to me, really don't know what moderators are trying to achieve by changing my source address. it is not easy to subscribe phone every day to be making posts on Nairaland. To the best of my knowledge, post that needs to be changed are always an article that is featured on other websites example like Article that is not news, that a website aimed to use and rank in organic traffic or sponsored or possibly more 500words. presently, it will be too harsh to penalise bloggers for coping news from other websites because few websites own any or generate news this day (depend on Eachother for news) some of them only rank or cached by google easily because they're old web. please lalasticlala pity bloggers and stop applying strict source link on posts we made. okay in my own case I have made 5 different topics today that appeared in FP but none of my link was there. I source that news and most times instead of them coming with my link another trend will be pushed to FP which I preceded. Everything is frustrating and not good enough for bloggers that depend on Nairaland for traffic. I hope you look into my plea. I'm also aware of rule 9. but honestly I don't think it is captured in this circumstance as an offence cool cool Why it will be very difficult for bloggers to source political remains that,
They have not being recognized news websites, as to gain access to official government gatherings
limited resources.
Old/young domain issues
Technical problems
lack of fund to employ and source original contents.

Forgive me but I must say this without young bloggers nairaland won't be fun as it is now and will be more tasking to the owner and moderators. So please seun and lalasticlala pardon us we are your children. Persistence hinders failure, some of us don't even have up 200 page views dailykiss kiss grin

SportsRonaldo: I Deserve More Ballon D’or Awards Than Messi by bellachibaby(op): 2:03pm On Sep 18, 2019
Juventus forward Cristiano Ronaldo said he deserves to end his soccer career with more Ballon d’Or awards than Barcelona counterpart Lionel Messi and hopes to establish himself as the greatest player of all time.

Ronaldo, 34, has won the renowned France Football magazine trophy for the world’s best player five times – as many as Messi – but is eager for more as he moves into the twilight of his career.

“Messi’s in the history of football,” Ronaldo told broadcaster Piers Morgan in an interview with Britain’s ITV on Tuesday.

“But I think I have to have six or seven or eight to be above him,” he said, referring to the Ballon d’Or awards.

“I’d love it, I think I deserve it.”

The Portugal captain said he was no friend of the Argentine, but credited his rival for helping push him further in his own career.

“My relationship with him is, we are not friends, but we have shared this stage for 15 years,” Ronaldo said.

“I know that he has pushed me to be a better player and I have pushed him to be a better player as well.”

Ronaldo, who also played for Manchester United and Real Madrid, has five UEFA Champions League winners’ medals and led Portugal to victory at the 2016 UEFA European Championship and 2019 UEFA Nations League tournaments.

“I don’t follow the records, the records follow me. I’m addicted to the success, and I don’t think it’s something bad, I think it’s good,” Ronaldo said.

“It motivates me. If you’re not motivated, it’s better to stop.”

PoliticsAirport: Umahi Reacts To Report On Refusal To Compensate 3000 House Owners by bellachibaby(op): 4:06pm On Sep 17, 2019
The Governor of Ebonyi State, Chief David Umahi, Tuesday, berated those who protested against the sitting of a cargo International Airport approved by President Mohammadu Buhari for the state. Thickmatch reports'

Recall that Thickmatch.com reported that Aguogboriga, Umuoghara community in Ezza North local government area of Ebonyi State had on Monday protested and rejected the sitting of the airport in their community.

But the governor while reacting to the development, said such protest was a distraction to his administration and called on the general public to disregard such, adding that it was the handwork of the opposition.

Umahi, who spoke to journalists in Abakaliki, through the commissioner for information and state orientation, Barr. Uchenna Orji denied any refusal by the governor to pay compensation to those whose houses were marked for demolition.

He said nothing will stop the state government from constructing the airport in the said approved site, adding that all land belongs to the government and called on the protesters to vacate the marked areas.

“Some villagers in Umuoghara community in Ezza North LGA, protested yesterday and impressions were given out. We were actually worried because newsmen were there.

“We needed to put the record straight. As a matter of fact, the state government under the leadership of the governor Chief David Umahi has a plan to develop the state and needed to build an international airport for the state.

“The stakeholders of Umuoghara community were consulted about the area to site the international airport. Considerations were given on the area of centrality and it fell on Ezza north and part of Ezza south LGAs.

“The governor did not only consult stakeholders but also held a meeting with the owners of the lands and decisions were reached on where to site the airport, that will be central to the people of the state in general.

“The governor has severally met with the stakeholders and owners of the lands and the issue of compensation was also resolved. It was agreed that enumeration is made so that issues of building and economic trees affected can be compensated.

“Before this administration, the people of Ezza north were so neglected and the governor said such a thing will not happen at his own time. I, therefore, call on the general public to treat the protest with the wave of the hand. It is just an orchestration of people who think that they could blackmail the responsible government led by Chief David Umahi,” he stated. Thickmatch.com Reports'

PoliticsDetails Of Buhari’s Meeting With Police Service Commission Emerge by bellachibaby(op): 3:56pm On Sep 17, 2019
President Muhammadu Buhari, on Tuesday, charged members of the Police Service Commission to redouble their efforts in ensuring that the Nigeria Police Force delivers on its responsibilities. Thickmatch.com reports'
Speaking with thickmatch.com reporters in Abuja while receiving the 2018 Annual Report of the Commission, President Buhari said, “the Commission has the most challenging responsibility of carrying out oversight responsibilities of the Police Force.

“The people that comprise this commission are mostly personally known to me and some of them have been through the mill as it were, therefore I expect them to put the Police in order. I personally believe that the Inspector General is doing his best …the Police are always in the frontline and unless we get the police working effectively, the security of this country will remain in doubt.”

He said that, by the mandate of the Commission, the task of appointment, promotion and disciplinary control of officers of the Nigerian Police Force, except the Inspector General, fell under it.

“Your assignment is enormous and calls for sacrifice and commitment especially now that almost every country is faced with severe internal security challenges. Nigeria is no exception,” President Buhari added.

The President praised the Commission for new ideas introduced into the workings of the Force: “I am aware that you have put policies in place to reposition the Police Force in the areas of merit-driven promotion and prompt disciplinary actions. The government will require that you redouble your efforts and ensure that the Police Force receives the required assistance for optimum service delivery.

He also called on the Commission to ensure the harmonious working relationship with the Police Force.

“I wish to see close communication and understanding between you and the Nigeria Police. This is necessary for the overall efficiency and effectiveness in securing the country,” said the President.

Earlier in his address, Alhaji Musiliu Smith, the Chairman of the Commission who led other members to State House, had intimated the President that, in line with his (President’s) specific directives, the management was gradually putting together a productive Nigeria Police Force, which will attract the endorsement of all Nigerians and also receive the acclaim of the policemen themselves.

He also requested the intervention of the President in overcoming the funding constraints of the Commission as well as securing better office accommodation. thickmatch.com reports'
