PoliticsBuhari Revealed His ‘true Colour’ After He Got Power: Buba Galadima by bellachibaby(op): 1:05pm On Oct 07, 2019
Buba Galadima, a former ally of President Muhammadu Buhari, has said that the true colour of the president was exposed when he came into power.

According to Galadima, in an interview with New Telegraph, had Buhari worked for the real values he stood for in the past, the country would have made significant progress.

His words, “He (Buhari) knew why he came to politics and why some of us sacrificed everything to ensure that he becomes President but when he became President, he sort of kicked out all those ideals for which we fought for, for which we had been intimidated and for which he suffered trial for treason,” he said.

“So, it is something that is most unfortunate for a statesman like him, saying something and not living to his words.

If we had followed our own programme as envisaged in 2002, Nigeria would have been elsewhere now like Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, India and a host of so many other advanced countries of the world.

“We shouted for Buhari for many years but that didn’t make him a President until he crossed the borders to meet other people from other parts of the country. He went out to seek the assistance of others… then after he won, he brought out his true colours.

On whether previous Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governments see truly responsible for the woes of the country, he said;

“Let’s agree with him on what he has said about the situation he met. Why was he voted for? He was voted for because most Nigerians believed that he would take us out of the woods,” he said.

“So it is no excuse. Whenever anybody in this government blames past governments, I just laugh. Who are those among them in the government that were not part of the PDP, including the President himself.”

EducationSack Of 15 ABU Staff For Sexual Harassment, Corruption Commended By FG by bellachibaby(op): 7:52am On Oct 07, 2019
The Federal Competition & Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) on Sunday commended the Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) authorities for terminating the employment of 15 staff and demotion of one academic staff for corruption and sexual harassment.

Babatunde Irukera, FCCPC Chief Executive Officer, in a statement, noted that the disciplinary action followed investigations that established unsolicited and unwelcome sexual advances and behaviour toward members of the school community, illegal allocation of, and alteration of grades, and extortion of students.

“These types of conduct materially affect the entire community, diminish scholarship and negatively skew academic outcomes in a manner that violates the rights of targets of the behaviour and victimises others who are invariably indirect victims.

“The inappropriate behaviour undermines the quality and validity of education and questions the credibility of educational outcomes”, it read.

“The Commission is further encouraged by ABU’s commitment to a broader and continuing investigation of others within the community. In addition, the Commission commends ABU for this robust and far-reaching effort and the confidence it restores and promotes in our institutions, systems and processes.

“A transparent, fair and just educational community is vital for all members of the community, especially students, and the Commission is keen to ensure that students, as consumers, are afforded the necessary protections, and our campuses are safe and secure always.

“The Commission urges educational institutions to pursue aggressive and open initiatives to ensure harassment, corruption and other vices are eradicated from the educational system”, the statement added.

PoliticsChibok Girls Cameron Must Find Courage To Confess His Role In Abduction Plan FFK by bellachibaby(op): 12:16pm On Oct 06, 2019
Goodluck Jonathan and David Cameron
Femi Fani-Kayode, a former aviation minister has asked David Cameron, former UK prime minister to muster the courage to confess his role in the abduction plan of Chibok schoolgirls.

The former minister was reacting to an accusation by Cameron in his book ‘For The Record’ that ex-President Goodluck Jonathan refused help for the rescue of the schoolgirls when it was offered.

Cameron had said some British troops spotted the location of the abducted Chibok girls and offered to help in rescuing them but Jonathan refused.

Reacting via a tweet on Sunday, Fani-Kayode said the accusation only means that Cameron has exposed his complicity in the deadly circus of the Chibok abduction — and must find the courage to confess, he added.

His tweet: In telling the cheap cover-up lie that @GEJonathan rejected the help the UK offered to rescue the ChibokGirls, @David_Cameron has exposed his complicity in the deadly circus the Chibok abduction was. David must now find the courage to confess his role in the abduction plan itself.

PoliticsKwara Assembly Give Reasons Why Saraki’s Properties Were Seized by bellachibaby(op): 11:45am On Oct 06, 2019
The Kwara State House of Assembly has disclosed why it directed the seizure of the Alimi Chalet and a landed property popularly called Ile Arugbo which was allegedly acquired by the former Senate President, Bukola Saraki.

It disclosed that it directed the seizure of the property because they belonged to the state government and there was no evidence that Saraki paid for them.

The Assembly gave the explanation, in a statement titled: “Our position on the seizure of Alimi Chalet, Saraki’s House” by the Special Assistant to the Speaker, Ibrahim Sheriff, over the weekend.

It declared that the allocation of the posh property to the former Senate President by the last administration was a “violent violation” of the Kwara State Former Governor’s Pension Law 2010, as amended, which had already taken care of Saraki.

The Assembly insisted that there was an evidence the property was illegally acquired.

The statement reads: “The Ile Arugbo had been erected on land originally meant for the expansion of the Civil Service Clinic and Phase II of the State Government Secretariat without any evidence that anyone paid a dime to the government for the land.

“The noise surrounding the affected property is politically motivated, as other public property unlawfully acquired are also being looked into.

“We dare say that allowing impunity to stand, no matter who is affected and how long it has taken place, is a disservice to the state and its people.

“Apart from the fact that the purported sale of the Alimi Chalet did not conform to the Kwara State former Governors’ Pension Law 2010, as amended, which incidentally was the brainchild of Saraki, we contend that there is no record anywhere that Saraki paid a dime to have the property transferred to him. The transfer only fits into what the late Fela Anikulapo called ‘paddy-paddy’ arrangement.”

The Assembly challenged the affected parties to prove they legally acquired the property by presenting evidence of payment.

“The pension law takes adequate care of the former governor (Saraki). The law allows ex-governors to own a five-bedroomed duplex, as opposed to the Alimi Chalet, which consists of three separate chalets with three boys’ quarters of three rooms each and, therefore, does not fit into the recommendation of the pension law of 2010.

“Aside from the three houses on over one hectare of land on Alimi Road supposedly given to Saraki under the state pension law, Saraki also got N250m under the same law to build another retirement home for himself.

“The said Alimi Chalet, which was gifted to him, is the property of the people of Kwara State and was never contemplated as a gift to former governors,” the Assembly said.

PoliticsDevelop Satellite Towns, FCT Minister Urges Area Council Chairmen by bellachibaby(op): 12:06pm On Oct 04, 2019
The FCT Minister, Malam Muhammad Bello, has urged chairmen of Area Councils to develop infrastructure in satellite towns to make life more meaningful for the inhabitants.

Bello made the call on Thursday in Abuja, when a delegation of elected officials of the FCT, led by Sen. Phillip Aduda, visited him.

He said that infrastructural investment in the satellite towns would boost security, sanitation, education, healthcare and traffic management.

The minister said that the activities of area council authorities must be in sync with the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA)’s efforts toward quality primary education and healthcare delivery.

Bello stated that much would not be achieved by the FCTA except the area councils were proactive at the community levels.

“The level of responsibility bestowed on you as elected representatives of the people are enormous; the people you represent must be touched positively.

“Allocations meant for the councils are released promptly, so no area council chairman can complain of funding as hindrance,” he said.

He told them that primary education, health care and basic sanitation fell within the purview of the area councils, adding, “we can serve the people better through good governance instead of politicking”

The minister further urged the council chairmen to play active roles in the boards that they serve as members, to ensure effective service delivery.

“Mobilise your people to engage in more community service. With such synergy, the sanitary state of the localities can be made better,” he said.

Earlier, leader of the delegation, Sen. Phillip Aduda, had commended the minister for the efforts towards enhancing working synergy with the area councils.

He reiterated the readiness of the elected FCT officials to support the FCTA in achieving objectives that would impact positively on the people.

In her remarks, Dr Ramatu Tijjani-Aliyu, Minister of States for the FCT, said that there was need for cooperation and synergy between the elected officials and the FCTA

PoliticsOwan-enoh’s Refusal To Appeal Fuels Rumours Of Gov Ayade’s Defection by bellachibaby(op): 11:14am On Oct 04, 2019
A report by The Guardian suggests that Cross River state governor, Ben Ayade, might be on his way to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

According to the report, rumours are rife in the state that Governor Ayade is on his way to the APC after the opposition's governorship candidate in the state, Senator John Owan-Enoh dropped his intention to appeal against the recent judgement of the Cross River State governorship tribunal. The tribunal had reaffirmed Governor Ben Ayade as the duly elected governor of the state.

Ayade is a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). An APC chieftain in the state quoted in the report said, “We saw it coming. The recent visit (of Ayade) to the presidency in the name of obtaining the federal government’s approval of an Outline Business Case (OBC) for the Bakassi Deep Seaport is just a smokescreen.

“The main issue was most likely the cross-over to APC, as the powers-that-be in the presidency might have put pressure on Owan-Enoh to drop his appeal.

“I see this as a strategic and double victory for Ayade because when he crosses over to APC, automatically, a safe haven is guaranteed in case of any future disturbance by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) when he leaves office in 2023.”

A political analyst, Femi Balogun, however, told Legit.ng that he does not believe the governor will defect. His words:

“If Governor Ayade defects to the APC. It will be a huge political gamble as Cross River is traditionally PDP state.

“The governor himself is not a very strong politician, remember that he is an academic, so it is not guaranteed that many PDP chieftains in the state will follow him to the APC

“We saw what happened with Godswill Akpabio in neighbouring Akwa Ibom state. The ruling party in those states are on the ground so it will take an extraordinary effort to wrestle power from them.”

PoliticsOur Administration Will Resolve Minimum Wage Crisis - Vice President Osinbajo by bellachibaby(op): 9:04pm On Oct 03, 2019
Vice President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, has said that the President Muhammadu Buhari administration will “honestly and transparently resolve the request by labour for a salary increase for other levels of workers not affected in the implementation of the new national minimum wage.”

Osinbajo stated this on Thursday at a meeting with the new leadership of the Trade Union Congress, TUC, who paid him a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa.

The team was led by the new President of the union, Comrade Quadri Olaleye. Labour, Employment & Productivity Minister, Dr. Chris Ngige was also at the meeting.

Commending the labour leaders’ engagement with the Federal Government, the VP told the leaders, “your coming today indicates your willingness to work with government. You should consider the President as someone committed to the welfare of workers. One of the first things he did when we came in was to give States a series of bailouts to help repay backlog of salaries in several States.”

The Vice President noted that the Buhari administration refused to ignore the situation, and instead provided different facilities including Paris club refunds and budget support loans to provide immediate succor to States.

On the contentious issue of salaries increase being demanded, the VP observed that labour “must find ways to work with a government that is honest and wants to work to resolve the issue transparently.

“Let us give ourselves room to negotiate properly. The President wants an honest, open process, we will be transparent and honest about it. Labour leaders should give us the benefit of the doubt,” he says.

Besides, Prof Osinbajo assured the leaders that the federal ministers all have a mandate to ensure job creation opportunities while the government also works on creating an enabling environment for the private sector to create jobs.

PoliticsICPC Lied, No Constituency Project Items Recovered From Me – Sen. Buruji Kashamu by bellachibaby(op): 8:53am On Sep 27, 2019
A former Senator, who represented Ogun East in the eighth National Assembly has debunked a statement credited to the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission (ICPC) that it had recovered three ambulances and a 500KVA transformer which were Constituency Project items from him.

ICPC had in a statement Thursday, said ‘the items were part of 2016 Constituency Projects meant to be distributed to Ogun East Senatorial District.”

The commission said the items were allegedly discovered by its Constituency Project Tracking Team at Kashamu’s Constituency Project Office in Ijebu Ode, Ogun State, after a tip-off by a constituent, a statement signed by the commission’s spokesperson, Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, said.

But Kashamu said “no items were recovered” from his constituency office in Ijebu-Ode, noting that “it is shameful ICPC could turn round to claim recovery of items that had earlier been reported to it.”

The former lawmaker said, “Rather, the items that were handed over to ICPC officials were delivered at the constituency office in Ijebu-Igbo, Ogun State. The items were delivered to the Constituency office in Ijebu-Igbo by the contractors late in 2017.”

Kashamu, speaking through his Media Aide, Austin Oniyokor, in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Friday, alleged that his former Senior Legislative Aide (SLA), one Onadeko Onamusi, “abused his position and influenced the award of 18 out of the 21 constituency projects to two of his (the SLA’s) companies – Stanton Nigeria Limited and Haines & Baines Nigeria Limited.”

Oniyokor said, “Alarmed at the discovery, Senator Kashamu issued a query to Onamusi and terminated his appointment. Thereafter, the matter was reported to the ICPC. The ICPC investigated the matter, arrested and charged Onamusi to court.”

According to the Oniyokor, the former legislative aide was reportedly arraigned by ICPC on an 18-count charge.

“In fact, on the 28th of November, 2018, the ICPC through its spokesperson, Mrs Rasheedat Okoduwa, issued a statement wherein it announced that it had charged Onamusi to court over N68.7million contract scam.

“In the statement, the ICPC said Onamusi was arraigned before Justice C. N. Oji of the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Apo, Abuja, on 18 counts.

“Onamusi was accused of using his companies to execute several contracts for the National Assembly.” he said.

‘So, for any objective mind, it should not be difficult to understand that there was no way the distribution of the items could have continued since they had become a subject of litigation and could be used as evidence. It is even more so when part of the senator’s complaint was that the contractor supplied Volvo hearse instead of supplying ambulances.

“This was the situation until Senator Kashamu served out his term of office in June, 2019. It is instructive that the items were not diverted or taken anywhere for the personal use of the senator or any of his associates.

“So, if the matter the ICPC took to court had been determined one or the other, what it should have done was for the items to be delivered to the beneficiaries and not this unnecessary melodrama by the commission.

“The three Volvo hearse and transformer were not hidden. They have always been in the open within the expansive compound of Senator Kashamu’s Constituency office in Ijebu-Igbo. So, there could not have been any recovery.

“It is shameful that the same agency that got Onamusi arrested, investigated and charged to court over the same items could turn round to claim recovery of the items that had been reported to it on the basis of some unfounded “intelligence”.

“If anything, Senator Kashamu should be commended for his rare patriotic step of reporting his aide to the ICPC for allegedly abusing his position as a Senior Legislative Aide.

“All of these are in the public domain and can be verified at the ICPC and FCT High Court, Abuja,” the statement added.

PoliticsI’ve No Candidates For Council Polls, Says Fayemi by bellachibaby(op): 5:42am On Sep 25, 2019
AHEAD of the December 7 local government elections in Ekiti, Governor Kayode Fayemi said on Tuesday that he has no preferred candidates for the forthcoming primary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.

Fayemi in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, said he remained committed to his earlier stance that there would be no anointed aspirants, cautioning people against dropping his name in a bid to scuttle laid down procedure.

The governor also directed the leadership of the APC in the state to ensure a transparent and hitchfree process for the emergence of the party’s candidates.

Governor Fayemi said that every effort must be made to ensure genuine consensus on candidates’ emergence, adding that clear primary should be the mode of selection, where consensus is impossible.

“Primaries must be well done in a way that even losers will know that they lost fair and square and I have no preferred candidate anywhere. Everybody should go and work for the support of their people. After all, I went through primaries even as a former Governor and leader of the party,” he said.

The governor also urged members of the party to show good examples to others by observing laid down rules of the party and ensuring that differences arising from the contest are resolved amicably.

Grammy Award-winner Cardi B, 26, has since given birth to the couple’s only child, a daughter named Kulture.

PoliticsWe’ll retake Adamawa in 2023, APC vows by bellachibaby(op): 4:36pm On Sep 21, 2019
Stakeholders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State have taken stock of how the party lost the state in the 2019 election due to disunity and resolved to put the past behind them and take back the state in 2023.

The stakeholders came out of a reconciliatory meeting in Yola on Friday night saying they had learnt their lessons and would henceforth work together for the success of the party at all levels.

A former member of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Nuhu Ribadu, and Hajia Aisha Buhari’s brother, Ahmed Halilu (Mudi) had been bitterly against Sen Mohammed Jibrilla (Bindow) after Bindow as the state governor at the time, won the APC governorship primary which Ribadu and Mudi discredited.

The two rejected Bindow’s candidacy up to the general election and were believed to have worked against Bindow at the election, a development believed to have contributed greatly to the failure of Bindow and of course the APC at the election.

Ribadu who attended the Adamawa State APC Steering Committee/State Exco/Stakeholders Reconciliatory Meeting of Friday night stressed that the intra-party conflict which cost the party the chance of retaining the state at the 2019 governorship election would never occur again.

“Never again will we let that happen,” he said during a review remark at the end of the meeting.

The meeting was the first in what may be a series of similar meetings following the constitution of a 39-member Central Steering Committee of the APC to reconcile misgivings and reposition the party for future success.

Ribadu said, “We are here saying enough is enough. We will work together, we will never allow anything to come between us that will affect our fortunes and the fortunes of our party.

“APC is a progressive party, our opponents are conservatives. It was so unfortunate that we were not guided in the past as a result of which our political enemies benefitted.”

Urging a demonstration of the new resolve in the council-level elections scheduled for the state in November, Ribadu said, “It will never happen again in Adamawa. We have an election coming, the local government election. We intend to do it properly and fairly and we will not allow anybody to cheat us again.

“We have all assembled here, all the leaders of the party from the local government to state levels. We have all resolved to work together for the victory of our party.”

Earlier in his remark, chairman of the APC Steering Committee and one time Minister of Defence and Internal Affairs respectively, Abdurrahman Adamu, said that disturbed by the lingering precarious relationship among members of the party, elders took the gauntlet to restore sanity and orderliness after the party waded through misunderstanding for a long time.

The Chairman Sub-Committee on Reconciliation, Dahiru Bobbo, said his committee was delegated to reconcile aggrieved members and put the party on the threshold of prosperity.
