Okoi Obono-Obla, the suspended Chairman of the Special Presidential Investigation Panel on the Recovery of Public Property has blamed his run-in with the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission on Vice President Yemi Osinbajo. In a lawsuit he filed to challenge the said probe for alleged certificate forgery and extortion on Tuesday August 20, the suspended SPIP chairman said the ICPC had no power to invite, arrest, detain, investigate, or prosecute him in connection with alleged falsification of academic certificates. He also filed an ex parte application seeking an urgent hearing of the suit, while refusing to appear before the ICPC owing to his plan to challenge the summons by the commission. Punch reported that he alleged that part of the reasons he was suspended as the SPIP chairman, was that he was not taking instructions from Osinbajo. Obono-Obla also said the anti-corruption agency would not conduct a fair probe of his case, due to the closeness of the commission’s Chairman, Prof Bolaji Owansanoye to Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo. He also linked his travails to the investigations he launched against influential persons and organisations, and also attached a detailed list of his achievements as the Chairman of the SPIP in terms of recovery of looted funds and assets. Obono-Obla also alleged that he received death threats and sacrificed his comfort in assisting President Muhammadu Buhari administration to fight corruption. President Buhari on Monday August 19, expressed fear over Nigeria’s population explosion which he described as "frightening". The President told the 43-ministers-designate who will assume office tomorrow to work hand-in-hand to find a solution to the worrisome trend. “By average estimates, our population is close to 200 million today. By 2050, UN (United Nations) estimates show that Nigeria will be third globally, behind only India and China with a projected population of 411 million. “This is a frightening prospect but only if we sit idly by and expect handouts from so-called development partners. The solution to our problems lies within us" he said. Buhari also stated that his administration's major focus is on securing the country, improving the economy and anti-corruption. He added: “None but the most partisan will dispute that we have made headway in all three areas. First, we have rolled back the frontiers of terrorism; we are actively addressing other challenges such as kidnappings, farmer-herder violence, improving the safety of our roads, railways, air traffic and fire control capacities. “Second, we are steadily turning the economy round through investment in agriculture and manufacturing, shoring up our foreign reserves, curbing inflation and improving the country’s infrastructure. “Third, we have recovered hundreds of billions of stolen assets and are actively pursuing control measures to tackle leakages in public resources. We will not let up in fighting corruption.’’ See more here https://thickmatch.com/nigerias-population-explosion-frightening-buhari/

President Buhari said this while welcoming the soon to be minister – who had all been screened by the National Assembly. He also admonished them to sustain the momentum of the corruption fight of his administration. Read Full Speech below ADDRESS BY HIS EXCELLENCY, MUHAMMADU BUHARI PRESIDENT OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA AT THE PRESIDENTIAL RETREAT FOR MINISTERS-DESIGNATE, PRESIDENTIAL AIDES AND OTHER TOP GOVERNMENT FUNCTIONARIES, HELD AT THE STATE HOUSE, ABUJA MONDAY, 19 AUGUST 2019 PROTOCOLS: I welcome you all to this meeting whose purpose is firstly, to familiarize ourselves with our colleagues with whom we shall be working closely for the next four years GOD willing; secondly, to reflect and assess the country’s position in 2015 and today; and thirdly, to chart a course for the country for the foreseeable future. 2. I congratulate all the new comers who your country has chosen above others to join the first term Ministers whose performance has been outstanding. All of you are appointed to assist and advise the President in running the affairs of our country. At the end of the Retreat, it is hoped that all of you will be in tune with the roles and responsibilities of positions you will occupy in Government. Many national issues require unified decisions. 3. It is a great privilege for you to be called upon to serve in these Great Offices of State and you must grasp the chance with two hands and put in your best efforts as Nigeria today needs top managers to handle our numerous challenges. There will be long hours and you must be prepared to live laborious days if we are to serve our people optimally. 4. Ladies and gentlemen, we are all aware of the looming demographic potential of our country. By average estimates, our population is close to 200 million today. By 2050, UN estimates put Nigeria third globally behind only India and China with our projected population at 411 million. 5. This is a frightening prospect but only if we sit idly by and expect handouts from so-called development partners. The solution to our problems lies within us. 6. Honourable Ministers-Designate, in our first term we identified three salient areas for close attention and action, namely to secure the country, to improve the economy and to fight corruption. 7. None but the most partisan will dispute that we have made headway in all three areas: First – we have rolled back the frontiers of terrorism; we are actively addressing other challenges such as kidnappings, farmer-herder violence, improving the safety of our roads, railways, air traffic and fire control capacities. Second – we are steadily turning the economy round through investment in agriculture and manufacturing, shoring up our foreign reserves, curbing inflation and improving the country’s infrastructure. Third – on corruption, we have recovered hundreds of billions of stolen assets and are actively pursuing control measures to tackle leakages in public resources. We will not let up in fighting corruption. 8. As Ministers, I am counting on you together with Advisers and Nigerians willing and able to contribute to build upon our road map of policies, programmes and projects that will lift the bulk of our people out of poverty and set them on the road to prosperity. 9. Our Administration’s eight years will have laid the grounds for lifting 100 million Nigerians out of poverty in 10 years. This outcome will fundamentally shift Nigeria’s trajectory and place us among the World’s Great Nations. 11. Honourable Ministers-Designate, you will be responsible for the development and implementation of policies, programmes and projects in your various Ministries, Departments and Agencies in line with Government priorities. You must also ensure that Agencies under your Ministries are effective, efficient and accountable in the discharge of their responsibilities. 12. Honourable Ministers-Designate, we must work as a team. Although you have been chosen to represent your states as a constitutional imperative, it is vital for all of you to work as Nigerians. 13. Furthermore, working as a team demands that we know what the next person is doing. You must open communications with your colleagues. Lack of communication leads to lack of cooperation and sub-optimal performance. 14. Finally, although this is called a Retreat, I would like to think this is a preparation for an advance to the Next Level. Thank you ladies and gentlemen. I wish you fruitful deliberations. A new batch of Nigerian migrants have been deported from Germany less than 48 hours after members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) attacked Senator Ike Ekweremadu, a former Deputy President of the Senate. The Enugu Senator was billed to give a keynote address at the Second Annual Cultural Festival and Convention put together by the Ndi-Igbo Germany in the city of Nuremberg on Saturday, August 17, 2019 when he was physically assaulted. The IPOB members while attacking the Senator accused him of working with the Federal Government to proscribe the group in the South East while followers of the group were being killed. The deported migrants according to reports left Frankfurt Airport at around 8 am on Monday. They are expected at the Murtala Mohammed International Airport between 2 pm and 3 pm. It is not yet clear if the clampdown is in anyway related to the assault on Ekweremadu although the German Police reportedly carried out several arrests on the day of the attack. “The flight will be from Frankfurt on Monday. For those who have been given the information, the plane will take off by 8 am and arrive in Nigeria between 2 pm and 3 pm,” Co-ordination Activist for Network Refugees 4 Refugees, a political platform for refugees and migrant self-organisation based in Stuttgart, Germany, Rex Osa, revealed as he spoke to The Nation. The Presidency has denied claims in the media that President Buhari has banned the importation of food into the country. Garba Shehu, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, gave the clarification in a statement he released on Sunday August 18th while responding to an article by Financial Times with claims that the President had banned food importation. Recall that President Buhari on August 13th, announced that he has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to stop providing foreign exchange for importation of food into the country. Read here. Many took his comment to mean that Food importation has been banned. However, in his statement released on Sunday, Garba said there was no ban on food importation. According to Garba, importers of the food items are still free to source their forex from non-government financial institutions towards meeting their importations The statement reads “Your article ‘Muhammadu Buhari sparks dismay over policy shift on food imports’ (15 August) suggests the Nigerian Government is restricting the import of agricultural products into the country. This is simply incorrect. To be absolutely clear, there is no ban – or restriction – on the importation of food items whatsoever. President Buhari has consistently worked towards strengthening Nigeria’s own industrial and agricultural base. A recent decision sees the CBN maintain its reserves to put to use helping growth of domestic industry in 41 products rather than provide forex for the import of those products from overseas. Should importers of these items wish to source their forex from non-government financial institutions (and pay customs duty on those imports – increasing tax-take, something the FT has berated Nigeria for not achieving on many occasions) they are freely able to do so. Diversification of forex provision towards the private sector and away from top-heavy government control, a diversification of Nigeria’s industrial base, and an increase in tax receipts – are all policies one might expect the Financial Times to support. Yet for reasons not quite clear, the author and this newspaper seem to believe the president’s administration seeks to control everything – and yet do so via policies that relinquish government control. We look forward to the next instalment of Mr. Munshi’s bizarre and puzzling article series'' the statement read See more here https://thickmatch.com/not-banned-food-importation-presidency/

When fitness trainer, Kemen was disqualified from the BBNaija reality show in 2017 for touching then fellow housemate, Tboss inappropriately , the news made lots of wave on social media as many Nigerians weighed in on the matter. While a lot of people came for him, criticizing him for his lack of self-control, others blamed Tboss for not revealing the truth as they felt she had led him on by constantly ‘teasing’ him. Unsurprisingly, the event led to a lot of people pulling away from the ‘Kemen brand’ as no one wanted to endorse or be associated with him. Indeed, those were tough times for the fitness guru. A new video has now surfaced in which TBoss and Kemen have been spotted sharing an eyebrow-raising moment. In the video, Kemen was seen hosing TBoss down. He was bare chested and she was wearing a brassi€re. After some seconds of vigorously washing her body, she removed one of the br@-cups and Kemen was treated to a long look of TBoss pierced nippl€s. The Kemen and TBoss debacle started trending again after the actions of current BBNaija housemate, Frodd, led Nigerians to compare him to Kemen. After last night’s party, Frodd who had earlier revealed his feelings for Esther was seen trying to force her to get intimate with him. The lady who did not want to get down with him warned him to stay off her and go to his bed. Since Frodd had his pants pulled down below his groin, it was evident he wanted a piece of the action and was not going to relent until he got ‘some’. At the end of the day, Esther was saved by the all seeing eyes of Big brother as he called Frodd to the diary room regardless of the time. The National Vice Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), South East zone, Chief Austin Umahi, has condemned the attack on Senator Ike Ekweremadu by suspected members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in Nurnberg Germany. Umahi made this known in a statement signed and forwarded to DAILY POST at the weekend in Abakaliki, capital of Ebonyi State. He frowned at the action of the group against Ekweremadu whom he said has been on the forefront of the struggle against the marginalization of Ndi-Igbo in the Nigerian Federation. The zonal Chairman said he was surprised that some individuals could hide under the name of the proscribed IPOB to attack Ekweremadu after all his efforts as the leader of Southeast Senate caucus in the 8th Senate to secure the release of Nnamdi Kanu, the self acclaimed leader of the group, from detention. He said for Senator Ekweremadu to have travelled to far away Nurnberg in Germany to attend the second annual festival and covention organized by Ndi-Igbo resident there, was a demonstration of his undying love for Ndi-Igbo which he has been exhibiting over the years. Umahi urged Ekweremadu not to be discouraged by the attack; but see it as one of the many sacrifices he has to pay in pursuit for justice and better treatment for Ndi-Igbo both within and outside the country. He also called for the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of the dastardly act to serve as a deterrent to others. “I advised any individual or group that has any genuine reason to agitate, to do so, through the Southeast Governors Forum, the Ohanaeze Ndi-igbo and through other legitimate means within the Nigerian federation; rather than resorting to self help” he stated.
