Technical Control Engineer
Brief Description of Duties:

Prepare comprehensive reports to identify, analyze and monitor all assigned project costs, with the view to facilitating completion of the project.

Compile information concerning unit cost and rates experience on the various phases of contract for incorporation in the reference material manuals for future estimates.

Identify, schedule and monitor procurement of the project construction materials in accordance with requirements of work program and specifications as defined in the contract.

Supervise and coordinate detailed compilation and finalization of budget for the awarded projects based on materials compiled by the Estimate
Manager in the course of tender preparation. This also involves comprehensive discussion of draft budget and subsequent revisions of it, with the designated Project Manager, his cost control Engineer and the Project Coordinator.

Monitor consumption trends and current stock levels of materials in order to plan future requirements and replenish stocks as necessary.

In addition, monitor materials issues against actual usage in order to determine the waste factor and report findings to the Project Manager.
Organize, direct, plan, schedule and control all the necessary resources to complete the job according to the contractual obligations on time within the policies, programs and budget.

Brief Description of Duties:

Conceive an overall structural analysis for Reinforced Concrete Bridges, (i.e. substructure and superstructure) in accordance to the British Standard Code.

Brief Description of Duties:

Reports to the Plant Manager and follow-up orders of spare parts and ensures maximum utilization of plant machinery.

Planning Engineer
Brief Description of Duties:

Responsible for developing the detailed schedules for the Engineering, Procurement or Construction phases of the project, including preparation and maintenance of Site “look ahead” Plans from the main project Primavera P3 and Microsoft project planning tools utilizing Microsoft Excel.

Interrogating interdisciplinary schedule requirements and restraints to ensure logical work sequences across all disciplines of the project.

Responsible for preparing Schedules, Graphs, Bar charts, Progress Curves and Spread Sheet Reports for regular site-based reports and progress reviews for the Project Controls Manager and Delivery Project Managers as requested.

Prepares Equipment and Manpower Loading Reports for site project resources. Supports the maintenance of the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) in conjunction with Planning Manager and Project Managers.

Monitors the assignment of budgeted resources to each site network activity with the appropriate Team Leader. Monitors and updates the Site Schedules with actual hours expanded and estimates to complete (ETC) in conjunction with the Cost Controllers.

Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering

2-5 years planning knowledge and experience with computerized project management software packages

Experience in site installation activities related to the civil engineering industry is desirable.

Must be well organized and with good written and verbal communication skills.

Senior Land Surveyor
Brief Description of Duties:

Supervises and monitors all phases of surveying, including preliminary surveyors, sections corners, flood plain maintenance, construction, bridge inspections, right of way and utilities to ensure accurate and precise engineering drawings.

Directs and supervises all surveying work associated with the execution of the different phases and stages of the construction activities of the project.

Studies the project construction drawings and the scope of work involved and obtains priorities from site engineers.

Checks all completed work and obtains consultants approval before proceeding to the subsequent phase of work.

Supervises the work of crews assigned to survey; plans, schedules and assigns work; instructs and train in methods and procedures.

Surveys road maintenance, bridge, culvert, topographical and stream channels for projects; establishes markers for aerial photos where and if needed.

Locates section corners which are basis for the center line of a road and bridge survey.

Requirements:

Diploma in Land Surveying

7-10 years experience in same specialization within the construction industry.



Plant Administrator
Brief Description of Duties:

Coordinate between workshop, procurement and plant managers in order to harmonise plant management operations, plant fleet movement and flow of information.

Main responsibilities include the supervision of all excavation, leveling, compacting and backfilling in the earthworks unit of the section in accordance with drawings and sketches.

Organize and co-ordinate all the asphalt operations of the project using a large crew of workers of various craft skills and levels.

Prepare the work schedule of each of his subordinates and their crews.

Check the conduct of work and monitor quality and ensure that safe working methods are employed at all times on site.

Drilling Supervisor
Brief Description of Duties:

Experienced in drilling operations for subsoil investigation.

Familiar with drilling and sampling operation of soft cohesive and sandy soil.

Ability to setup and organize site installations and to carry out investigation on different sites.

Requirements:

Minimum 5 years experience in the field of drilling operations.

Quarry Supervisor
Brief Description of Duties:

In charge of Quarry operations (at one of Setraco quarries), to ensure most timely and cost effective production of aggregates and efficient utilization of all crusher and support equipments.

To plan, lead, organize and control the quarry resources to meet the needs of both the Company’s projects and external clients (including sales/customer services).

Display a hands-on approach to Drill and Blast design and implementation.

Heavy Duty Mechanic

Dredge Master
Brief Description of Duties:

A Dredge Master is required to work in a range of civil projects, mainly roads and bridges. The job is site based, and encompasses field and office work.

Responsible for planning and project management of major reclamation works, shore discharge operations, plan and setup floating pipes and booster pumps.

Responsible for site functions on the next day programmes to ensuring sufficient work-front is available for the team and that engineering and quality standards are met.

Record Man-hours spent on each operation.

Ensure that materials are or will be available before time in order to avoid any interruption of the works.

Initiate daily report for his part of work.
Assist and report to the Project engineer / Section Engineer as required.

On a large job, he will perform assigned activities in one discipline, interfacing with other disciplines in all areas of the job.

Irrespective of the project size, he is expected to monitor material consumption by the foremen under his command, as well as the equipment hours spent on specific tasks.

It is expected that each Dredge Master will be responsible for ensuring that the technicians and labourers within his group adhere to HSE regulations.

Requirements:

Minimum 10 years experience in operation and maintenance of 1,200hp cutter suction dredgers with spud carriage and anchor booms.

Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and methods of dredging.

Previous experience managing crews of 30 or more on dredging projects.

Organisational skills, strong communication and high levels of motivation.



Road Design Engineer
Brief Description of Duties:

Is able to build a 3D ground model from raw survey data .

Is able to design from a ground model landfills, irrigation projects, industrial terminals.

Conversant with the geometric design of Highways and streets.

Is able to design horizontal & vertical alignments and fully conversant with AASHTO design parameters and transition curves design speed & superlevations.

Capable to integrate a full feature carriageway, highway, dual carriageway with service roads on separated grades.

Is able to design intersections, roundabout, grade separated intersections with slip roads and flight over\'s Freeways.

Able to generate full featurised cross sections; with earthwork quantities; survey setting out data and to compile mass haul diagrams.

Drainage & Sewerage design:

Is able to do a rainfall analysis and compile rainfall intensities and return periods

Is able to design a drainage network within the road carriageways or in open land.

Is able to load the drainage network and to design the drainage runs, size the pipes.

Generate drainage sections, generate Manhole schedules, pipe schedules and bills of quantities.

Knowledge of one of the following drainage packages is appreciable: Windes ; Wallrus ; Wassp

Hi, Everyone, it is good to know that more Nigerians are beginning to show interest in the capital market. It is a good and welcomed development.

With the current meltdown in the capital market, I will advise prospective investors to seek their Stockbrokers advice in purchasing stocks that will be profitable for them in future, though the market is buyers market for now owing to price depreciation of stocks. I wish to state that this is the best time to buy stocks on long term basis. Most of the blue chip companies are being sold at rockbottom prices and investors are really taking position to invest.

Initially, those days people invest in company shares to earn bonus and dividends, also know that the volume of bonus and dividend you receive depend on the volume of shares you have with the company. But owing to price appreciation a lot of people invested on short term and dispose off which affected the market liquidity. Lack of implementtaion of budget last year also contributed together with the Niger delta crisis which led to foreign investors selling off their stocks and return to their country all these factors affected the market liquidity.


Though there are merceneries in place to restore investors confidence. This is slashing down of Stockbrokers commission and introduction of share buy back by the NSE. I am of the opinion that the market will bounce back before the end of this year.


Remember that Oceanic and Uba are being sold below N10 naira these are stocks that worth over 48 and 65 naira respectively last year. Investing in any of them will surely yield a very high income.

It was also in the media that FG granted a bail out to textile industry running into billions of naira this generated ripples among financial analyst and the investing public as to why nothing has been done to the market.

The effect of the present crisis has created loss of confidence from investors, some out of the system while some are taking position to invest.

BENEFIT OF THE DROP IN PRICES

Presently, the market is for those that are buying, as it benefits them on long term investment. Stocks of many blue chip companies are been sold at under valued price so it is advantageous to invest in the current situation.

Analysts have predicted that before June this year the market may have bounced back to its normal activities with stock prices finding its original prices. Investors who takes advantage of the price drop in prices of stock will surely make over 300% return on investment going by the current stock price.
