Have a plan and ultimately ask God for directions them watch and see how He provides the parts.

Mystiqme: Hello Ben bro,
Admissions in the US does not depend on only one document. They believe in using several pieces of evidence to gauge the success of a potential student. So, if you have an average CGPA, you have other opportunities to make it up. Great GRE and TOEFL scores, top-notch letters of recommendations, relevant research/work experience and a sparkling SOP are some of these ways. They understand that some students are smart, but don't 'test' well, that is, they do not do well in exams. So, follow the GRE thread and ace the GRE, circulate your SOP to willing members here who can read and edit it for you, and make sure you pick lecturers who will write good letters, that accentuate your skills, not generic 'he's a good boy' letters. I can help in anyway you want.
Best. wow!!! Am so grateful bro for your heart warming advice. Please I will need your guide in every step of the way as soon as I start my application. Thanks so so much. How can I get in contact with you? |

DeeTus: Who helped them? Lol. our lecturers will tell you for any student to have a first class in chemistry, that student must be outstanding in practical chemistry along side the theoretical area but in situation where the school has poor laboratory equipments, how do you gauge their practical know how, which is very important in chemistry. |

profojah: He was just trying to tell that you shouldnt say it wasn't easy to get a first class from your school and use that as an excuse.. Like one of my lecturer do say "No excuse in failure"...
I'm pretty sure with your cgpa, you can get admission for your Msc programme ...like amanze15 said, Selection by admission committee are been base and determined by Test score, strong sop, good recommendation letters, transcript, probably course-prequisite..And youre good to go to get admitted provided you have all these support your low cgpa... thanks a lot. |

profojah: Oga I have so so so many friends with first class in Industrial and pure chemistry... My mates, my juniors and my seniors from Unilag... There shouldn't be an excuse in failure...be it lecturer's faults or bulkiness of courses. So many people in the same shoes as you but they manage to come out with first class or a very close-to-first class grade. schools differ tho. I can categorically tell you that in the History of DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY no student has achieved first class in chemistry. The lecturers will come to class and even tell you themselves that no matter what you do 2"1 is the maximum. They will shrink your GPA. Lol |

Mystiqme: Don't worry. Your lecturers from school cannot control your GRE score, so if you believe you are 1st class or high 2:1 material, you should ace that with nothing less than 320. If you do that, you'll be able to convince the admission committee in US schools that you are better than your CGPA. I can do much more. I know what I can do if I prepare for an exam. Thanks |

amanze15: I think admission approvals are not mainly based on CGPA (SOP, ReSEarch interest, test scores, alumni influence) u can have 2.5/5 on nigeria scale without passing through the WEs scale and get a full funding based on wonderful test scores or a good references..........i no get reach 3.0/5 for cgPa I no pass Gre or toefl buh I got a full masters admission, america is a bit flexible with CGPA compared to canada.. please which schools did you apply to and how did you go about the applications. Thank you |

kennyrony: That's no an excuse, don't we have people who graduate with 1st class in chemistry? please take it easy....there is no doubt we do have 1st class students in chemistry but lecturers in my dept made it very difficult for us,you schooled in Nigeria and you know what happens in our universities, am not using it as an excuse but most times these lecturers makes life difficult for us. The highest CGPA in my set was 3.76 which was 2"1. I have no regrets..I did the best I could. |

But I will advice you either go for if you don't have GRE so you can sit down and prepare for it or spring if you have GRE. thank you so much slimmy, you have been of great help to me. I have not taken GRE... Since I have to start afresh and start preparing my applications then I believe fall next year will be Good. Right now am confused tho..I don't have any school in mind for msc in chemistry, but I want to study in texas. I will start preparing for my GRE from today. Thanks a lot. |
