Be wary of any PC technician that suggests to format a PC due to boot failure. Since Windows 7, there has been no need to suffer data loss when there is no physical damage to the hard disk. Just my two cents. Kindly ignore if you disagree.

Well I guess craigslist does the same thing but how about a classifieds site that can help you buy or sell locally? Craigslist advises that transactions are better and more secure if done as close to your area as possible.

Hi I need to know the procedure involved in importing a good number of laptops (from Dubai). I own a computer shop and would like to bring my laptops straight from there as I have been residing there for close to two years.

I simply need to know the procedure at the Nigerian airport when I bring the laptops in, what are the custom duties if any, what do I have to do to get the laptops through the airport (MMIA) without any hitches whatsoever.

I don't use any of 'em, I guess u stick with what u start with. I started with Cinema 4D and it delivers just as well as Maya and Max (maybe even better IMO - don't want to start a war). Used modo for a while and I must say its a great subdiv modeller but no animation then so I switched back. Maya or Max, I say Cinema4D!!!

Thought I may just drop off my own little contribution here. This is my bentley continental gt, my second shot at car modelling. My first was a 1959 Jaguar MKII. Modelling, texturing, rendering (and maybe animation soon, ) was done in Maxon Cinema 4d. Post work in Photoshop & Fireworks.

Drawing is not ABSOLUTELY necessary but I would say it gives you a great edge. An eye for art is necessary though.

There is a way a traditional artist looks and feels about his/her subjects in terms of light, shade, color etc that would help you better appreciate computer graphics better.

An artist would readily and perhaps easily grasp the means through which computer graphics are made than one with no background in art (drawing included).

CG? flash won't help much in that direction - its main purpose is for applications if u choose to go the way of web 2.0. I would suggest going to the photoshop tutorial sites - pixel2life.com will suffice, they have tutorials for 2D and 3D graphics for various applications.

Nice experiences, I remember one I had a couple of years back.

I made this application to handle the stuffs in this company in Hilton, Abuja. I was in Lagos for biz with ma homes when the manager called me up that "when the program is on - she can't see her desktop". And she had called in some 'programmers' and they said that there was an error in the program! I was KO'd.

I explained to her how to change screen resolution and stuff over the phone but it was difficult for her to grasp. I had to get down to Abuja to see her. She showed me the system and 2 minutes later when she came back everything was k. She said what did I do, I showed her how to right click on the desktop, change screen settings, before starting the program. Someone changed the screen resolution to 640x480, and I built the program for 800x600, the html helpfile stated this in "minimum requirements" but the 'programmers' who said I was erroneous were too 'good' to read.

No offense lady, but if u need it so bad, try ordering for it from the developers website or buying it at a software shop or something (a legit software shop i.e). I think its high time developers start getting paid for their sweat since we use it to enrich ourselves,

The guys at CGtalk are cool, got a tip that aided me in the completion of my Playstation 3 model when I just started modelling, sometime last year. We should have a 3D modellers thread in the computer section don't u think - so we can display WIPs and Completed stills/anims,

Maxflame, I have over 10GB in tips, not mentioning rendered images and conversations from 3d forums where I hold membership, but hey thanx dude, will holla if the need arises.

impressive portfolio, I work along this lines too but for corporate clients (http://gravityalpha.com - my latest site), will post up some more links soon (difficult keeping tabs) plus I am moving slowly over to 3D full time so web design in my life is being sidelined a bit.
