spirituality is not about quoting holy scriptures and talking about what you understand from them.
for me i look at the more practical aspect of it vis-a -viz the effect that it is having on me in terms of making me a better person who loves all without discrimination.

approaching life from the perspective of the Law of cause and effect whereby you come to realize that everything you do comes back to you. this principle teaches you self responsibility. watch the life of any body who lives with this principle you find that such a person can never do or say anything that will hurt the next person and will give love to life knowing that in doing so only love will return.

but the person who believes that whatever he does he will be forgiven you can then imagine the kind of life that person will tend to live. he will feel free to commit any atrocities he wants to commit after all Jesus is there to wash his sins away and he goes scot free. just compare the 2 scenarios and see what is happening in our society today and how it is affecting the way people treat other people. what is the use of a doctrine that makes you spiritually lazy and leaves you a spiritual baby. just try attending any christian service and the kind of atrocities that people give as testimonies before they then repented is simply mind boggling and of course do you blame them, after all they have been promised that they will be forgiven and their debts carried by Jesus.

i still remember a former government official who after embezzling government funds approached us and asked to become a member of ECKANKAR hoping that once he does so he will be free from the EFCC that were after him. he didn't find it funny when he was told that if indeed he committed the crime and he becomes a member that is when EFCC will even catch him faster and send him to jail because he has to take responsibility for his actions and pay off any debts he has incurred in life. nobody saw him again after a while.

so that for me is what matters. how is any doctrine making me a better person here and now and making me to love all life better.

DEAR NAIRALANDERS, RELIGION SECTION

after years of arguments and counter-arguments in this section i started wondering why people come to this section at all. i feel that anyone who comes here without any intention of learning is simply wasting his or her time here.

that said, i have decided to take the bull by the horns and delve into practical spirituality. to me practical spirituality is all about taking the best of each religion and putting it into practice in your life in order to make yourself a better person who is able to love all life without bias and prejudice brought about by religious differences.

one of the most powerful spiritual practices i have come across since my spiritual adventure started are the contemplative exercises which involves the singing of a holy name of God or other spiritually charged words while contemplating on a spiritual quote and listening to the subtle inner voice of the Holy Spirit.

this basics opens a whole new vista of opportunity for spiritual growth for all souls despite their religious leaning.

from Christianity comes powerful spiritually charged words like JESUS, CHRIST, JEHOVAH with its different variations like Jehovah Jireh, Jehovah El-shaddai etc.

from Islam comes ALLAH, ALLAH HU AKBAR, and the 99 names of ALLAH.

from Hinduism comes Krishna

and from ECKANKAR comes SUGMAD, ECK,etc.

and finally you have the word, HU, which is GOD's name that does not belong to any religion. HU is the sound of all sounds and it is soul's Love song to God.

these Holy names and spiritually charged words are to be sung as a love song with the eyes closed and attention placed on the spiritual eye between the 2 eyebrows. that is where the divine journey of soul begins. this exercises can be done for 15 to 20 minutes at a time in the morning and night.

you are very free to experiment and try various variations and you can report your experiences here.

every body from all religions are encouraged to post their own practical spiritual practices that can help us becomes more God-like and also what they experienced from any technique they tried.

this thread is going to be our spiritual laboratory and i encourage every body to feel free to express themselves.

Ben can you explain more on the above especially what you mean by only the weak shall inherit the earth. Thanks

the weak and afraid who do not have the courage and boldness to go within themselves to discover the kingdom of God within themselves will be stuck with repeating earthly lessons. when they die they will reincarnate again and again back to earth until the time comes when they are able to get rid of their fears and weaknesses. while the pure in heart who have filled their whole being with love and eliminated all weaknesses and fear will naturally inherit the kingdom of God here and now.

my dear, there is no danger involved in soul travel which is simply expansion of your consciousness to areas of awareness and existence that your normal senses can not explore. soul travel uses one of the qualities of soul that is already innate in it which is omnipresence. soul does not need to travel anywhere because it is already everywhere so all it needs to do is just to move its attention to any area of awareness it wants to experience and it is there while still retaining full awareness of its physical existence so where does not coming back come in?

what you guys are doing in this thread is just like watching 2 grown ups laughing at a child who is trying to learn his ABCs and struggling with his pronunciations. if an outsider is watching the scenario who do you think he will consider to be childish.

what you people do not understand is that a change in believe or consciousness does not happen overnight. it takes time and maturity. and always remember that you were once at that level and if you knew how it was for you when you were at that level then put yourself in their shoes. you can then imagine a child in nursery school suddenly becoming a professor of law the next day because people were laughing at him at how he is struggling to even spell his ABCs which you know it is impossible but rather it will make him more withdrawn and defensive.

at the end of the day, what the world is looking for is what are you doing for life with your newly discovered knowledge and enlightenment of lack of it as it may be. how has it made you a better person who serves life. that is what matters. and whether you believe in the afterlife or not, really does not matter to me but at the end of the day when you have done your bit on earth and left this earth theater, you will be asked 2 simple questions.
1. did you serve?
2. did you love?
the answer is up to you but it will be a laughing matter if the answer is that you spent your time laughing at children who are still trying to spell their ABCs.

who created religion? is it God or man
who is causing the troubles on earth and killing people in name of religion and God? is it God or man

Benodic I view your thread regularly and I am amazed at the level of discipline portrayed by you. You update this thread on a daily basis. I need such kind of discipline in my life. I used to have a a friend who is an eckist in the university. I also attended one of their Sunday conference and I enjoyed myself.

Benodic I have to confess to you, at this stage of my life I am extremely busy. Life is like a fast train and I know I need to develop my spiritual life. I have once seen Jesus (or a Jesus personality in my dream, though I cannot really remember what we discussed). Can I be a practicing eckist without attending seminars, conference or Sunday worship service. Also how soon will I see my eck master who will guide me.

I need answers Benodic. I do need answers.

the beauty of ECKANKAR is that it is an individual oriented religion not a group oriented religion. and it's teachings is tailored for the current times in order to suit the current level of consciousness of individuals in this present era.

of course you can be a practicing Eckist without attending seminars or Eck Worship. what matters is doing your spiritual exercises on a daily basis, and going out there and being of service to the next person. that is the basics of spiritual growth.

The Master is always with you and once you are able to lift your consciousness by doing the spiritual exercises you will see him in your inner vision as close to you as your breath. all you need to do is to ask for guidance and it will be given. all the answers you need will come in due course of time.

I notice you quote a lot from the bible and even emphasise a lot on the teachings of Christ yet you claim not to be a christian. Would I be right to say a lot of eck teachings were plagiarised from the bible?

like chieveboy rightly pointed out truth is universal and is not the priority of any one or any religion or the sole property of any religion. it is the ego of man that leads to creation of boundaries between oneself and others when in real essence we are all one and truth is one but due to different levels of consciousness, truth is demarcated into many parts.

spiritual masters are sent to the world to once again remind souls that earth is not their home and that they came from somewhere and should be ready to make the journey back home. when they are done their followers at lower levels of consciousness turns these basic truths into dogmas and scriptures and then claim that all the truth is contained in that scripture and that theirs is the only way and all other ways lead to hell. very laughable indeed for those who can see beyond the illusions that covers the eyes of millions that trudge the earth not knowing their divine destiny.
i quote more from the bible because i am quite intimate with it having been a born again christian myself before finding the teachings of ECK that were more practical for me. and i also quoted it because i knew that it will make more sense to the person i was explaining something to who of course would have read the passage and glossed over it.
likewise if i find wonderful passage in the Holy Koran i will also quote it and not just quoting go ahead and implement it in my life. because we are here to learn from life and grow spiritually.
so my dear truth is universal and belongs to all souls and it is there for you to realize who and what you are and to find the Holy Spirit which dwells within you and which will lead you to all truth.

God is not something you just talk about. you have to experience God to have some understanding about It. ECKANKAR, the Religion of the light and sound of God has given people the opportunity to experience God again and see things for themselves instead of raising unnecessary arguments and counterarguments that leads no where.

the basic spiritual exercise of ECK which is the singing of the HU, a holy name of God for 15 - 20 mins a day will open your heart to God's love and open your spiritual eye to begin experiencing the wonders and glories of God which no words can describe and which of course no book can contain.

You need to have an understanding of God's love. The only analogy that is close to it on earth is the Sun that shines for everyone and the rain that falls on every one without discrimination and of course the oxygen that everyone breaths without paying for it.

God does not say hey! You ! You do not acknowledge me and you abuse me therefore no sun, rain or air for you. It gives freely of its love to all souls irrespective of religion or lack of religion, race or language.

The more God- like you become the more freedom and love you give to others and the less condemnation and judgement you dish out.

Every one has miracles in their life. Some call it luck and some call it chance. It really does not matter to God whether it is acknowledged or not and it does not stop It from giving out more and more love and miracles to all souls.

ECKANKAR is a spiritual school and just like a school system when you register you are started on a study curiculum which requires you applying discipline and dedication to your studies then the exams come and as you pass each exam you are moved from one class to another and eventually when you pass all the levels you graduate and become a master in your own right.
It is not a day's journey. It is a very gradual process.
So those benefits comes as you grow spiritually and not by just registering and then sitting down and doing nothing expecting manna to fall from heaven. It does not work like that. It takes immense love, dedication, discipline, patience and endurance to scale the heights of God.

really there is no compulsion at all to grow spiritually. The choice is up to the individual Soul when it wants to start the home ward journey. It is only the Bold and Courageous that can penetrate the inner worlds. And of course the meek will inherit the earth.
Help is always available for the Soul that is tired of repeating its lessons over and over and wants to go back to its source.

it is very simple depending on where you are. you can go to the nearest ECK Centre and if there are no nearby ECK centre where you are, you can go to the Eckankar website www.eckankar.org and click on membership you will be directed on how to register on-line. you can also download free introductory books from the website by clicking on free books and information on the website.

the benefits are numerous.
1. opportunity to achieve spiritual freedom in this lifetime.
2. becoming a spiritual master in your own right
3. becoming a conscious co-worker with God
4. ability to remember your dreams, understand and interpret them.
