The Greatest Showman

Watched this movie yesterday. Thought it was okay... barely. Loved the soundtrack and all the song scenes in the movie, but the actual narrative I found dull, cliche, and uninteresting. The whole movie was basically a whole bunch of circus-themed music videos that had scenes in between it to try and make a narrative. Probably won't watch again. 5/10
Very cliché storyline. I remember I gave it 7/10 but 2 out of that 7 was because of the songs. The narrative itself deserves 5. I only watch the song scenes once in a while especially the Zac Efron and Zendaya part. the movie generally is average at best.

All the shows you mentioned above are now total rubbish
I am shaming for agent of shield... Right now..
The writers of the show is the most clueless you will ever find.. Suit used to be good until season 3 or so
Suits has been great from season 1 to 7. That show doesn't lack content and with Rachel and Mike gone, I hope they can still find a way to keep it interesting.

Red Sparrow. 8/10.

How TF did this movie end up having average ratings? I think people were put off by the fact that it's over 2 hours long. That's a fantastic spy thriller movie right there. Gave me the kind of shocking revelations The Others gave me. The ending is the juicy part of the movie. Wonderful payback by Jennifer Lawrence.

Why on earth would Designated Survivor be cancelled? The series is actually nice. I feel so sad right now.

Ready Player One 9/10
If you are a gamer you're gonna love this movie.
I love the concept.
Crazy world tho grin
Steven Speilberg never disappoints.
Ready Player One kept me glued to my computer screen from start to finish.
Whoever came up with such a beautiful concept deserves an accolade.
I heard that the movie is based on a novel.

I dey look for the novel.
Can someone tell me where i can find the novel huh
Most films are based on novel or comic books. The movie is really nice, I don't know why it didn't garner much buzz, maybe because it's not produced and marketed by Walt Disney and Marvel Comics, because they can hype their movies very well.

Watched the movie yesterday morning, still came back last night and rewatched it. I love the concept.

9/10, for exploring a controversial theme in such a simple yet very creepy way. It's a movie that shows you don't need a big budget and gore to make a classic. wink

Kai, Beorn, I would love to dissect this movie but I will be spoiling it for people who haven't watched it.

See, bleeding is the cause of what brought him to that state that's why it reoccurs from time to time. Same reason the woman keeps having nightmares of when she went bonkers. It's hard to explain but I've read enough on the topic over the years to understand why it happens like that to some of them.

Right before the moment of revelation, all the pieces fell into place. While I wasn't surprised, I wanted to know what happened that brought them to that state so I kept watching.
Lol. The issue was highly debated, but you're right, let's not dissect it further before we commit the same crime we're so passionately against.

The embolden is the major reason why one has to watch till the end no matter his or her suspicion, because it's only revealed at the end.

I still have Looper to watch. I hope it turns out to be another great movie like The Others.

You didn't mention the most important...tragic.

When he said he was searching for his home and 'sometimes I bleed', it all began to fall into place, that's why the ending didn't come as a surprise because I had already began to suspect what was going on.

It also left me with a question about religion.

Beautiful, creative and terribly tragic movie.
I never suspected a thing. After revealing that you started figuring out the film midway into watching it, I tried not to suspect or read much meaning into any scene so that I'll be genuinely shocked by the revelation I knew the end will bring. I love surprises and twists in movies.

BTW, that scene you described was hotly debated in a site I read. Some people were of the opinion that the "sometimes I bleed" statement meant the husband was still in coma and not fully dead hence his "bleeding" when he shouldn't be bleeding if he's in the same "state" as his family.
TV/Movies › Re: What Movie Are You Watching Now? by Beorn: 6:38pm On May 07, 2018
The Others 9/10.

I'm not a fan of horror movies because even in my adult stage, they scare me silly. If I'd known The Others was a horror movie, I probably would've turn down the opportunity to watch it, but I'm glad I didn't.

I see all horror movies as movies made to strike fear into people's hearts garnished with grotesque killings, blood littered everywhere and ugly, scary creatures. The Others is a breath of fresh air when it comes to the horror movies genre. It's a horror movie meant to educate you rather than the usual primary purpose of scaring you. I've not watched a lot of horrors, but the few I've watched, The Others is without an iota of doubt the most creative and intelligent. The ending is just too revealing and shocking. Certainly saving it in my hard drive.

Still find it shocking he hasn't won an oscar. His creativity is something else.
It's shocking, honestly. Do you know the film was subsequently ranked one of the best films of the 2000s by several critics and media outlets. Memento was considered "culturally, historically or aesthetically" significant by the US Library of Congress and was selected for preservation in the National Film Registry in 2017. Yet no single Oscar award. Only few films gets to selected for preservation by National Film Registry, historical films like Schindler's List hot that honour and it deservedly won an Oscar. That Memento's creativity is top notch.

I began suspecting what was happening somewhere in the middle of the movie.

Or perhaps I've watched it a very long time ago and I can't remember, that's why I subconsciously knew the real situation of things.
I think it's more of the the former than the latter, borne out of many years of following different Hollywood movies which makes it easier for you to predict most movies' ending or how it's going to pan out.

10/10?? This promises to be really good
I can guarantee you one thing, though, that is that you MUST get confused at the end of the movie. There's no how you'll watch that movie for the first time and understand every scene in the movie. When you're done watching and feeling confused, just let me know so I can direct you to sites to help explain the movie to you. grin grin

Even after the explanation, there are about 2 flaws/confusing details that the director purposely/unknowing left for the imagination of viewers to guess and interprete as them deem fit. cheesy

I thought Predestination was the magnum opus of mind-twisting for me till I completed Memento few hours ago. Good God!! This movie is the pinnacle of mind-fuckîng so far for me.

With Predestination, I understood about 80% of the movie before reading up on the final 20% to fully understand the movie. But Memento? I was confused all through. Never have a movie got me confused all through its duration like Memento. It left me dazed. Two happenings occurring sequentially, involving the same characters, in a chronological and reverse order, before reaching an amazing climax. When I read the various explanations and fully understood the movie, my jaw dropped. Amadeo, I doff my heart for you. You sabi good movies. Damn!! Christopher Nolan is an amazing director.

Memento, for such a brilliant script, I'm giving it 10/10.

Another reason why I'm not too harsh on Black Panther is the same reason I defended Wonder Woman when some people wanted more action and fight scenes from her.

Both BP and Wonder Woman are just the beginning of their stories. They're the part 1 of their coming sequels, so the like the part 1s of other superhero movies like Captain America, they're not great during their first production. Basically, the directors are trying steer the movie towards an intended target, so it's more like storytelling, giving us a glimpse of who the acts are. I'm sure we'll see a much improved actions in the subsequent sequels.

Though i also feel the writers shouldn't have made Killmonger challenge for the Throne, but they wanted to make him a total villain.

(We all grew up watching Hollywood and feel the joy when Actor prevails over the Boss which is equal to happy ending for the movie, movie critiques and our increase in knowledge due to internet now see most of us root for villains in movies)

This is a guy with a family connection to his Wakander origin, and it was clear his father taught him a lot.
He referred to Queen mother as 'Aunty', called Zuri 'Uncle James', T'Challa he called 'cousin'.

The boy had a rough childhood, and you know how all these 'tokunbo' children behave as if they are better than children back home, because they were born abroad.

He just wanted a family.

The elders in the throne room should have calmed him down when he challenged to take the throne. Try and make him feel welcome, while T'Challa also will apologize on behalf of his father, since he also know that what his father did was bad.

Then bring Killmonger into the fold, so that him and T'Challa will join forces together to defeat the villain.

Now, they need a villain to sacrifice, and the villain should have been Klaue. They should have made Klaue all powerful and defeat him in the end.
Nice twists you've got there. Killmonger is too good a character to kill off immediately. If they had joined forces against a powerful enemy in the guise of a massively strong Klaue who had injected Vibranium and became a badass, the ending fight would've been more brutal and enjoyable.

Kaycee7:
On the subject of the accent, the cast really tried in replicating a decent Xhosa accent, as the language used was also Xhosa. I don't know any Xhosa personally so I can't say how spot on they were. But I wasn't put off by the accents.
Next, Killimonger didn't do away with the king making tradition. He destroyed the heart shaped herb. You could still challenge for the throne but you wouldn't receive the power of the Black Panther if you win. That's assuming he accepts your challenge.
Destroying the heart-shaped herb means distortion of the king-making tradition because during the process, the vibranium power is magically removed from the king and he fights without his power. This means after the destruction of the herb, during the next king-making fight, the winner will have no power returned because the herbs has been destroyed. If Nakia hadn't stolen one of the herbs, T'challa wouldn't have gotten his power back and be healed.
