All these is because people feel their towns aren't popular and they need to be in a general well known town.
Same can't be said of Enugu where someone will tell you I'm from ụdị, Ngwo, Nsukka, Nkanu etc and not just owerri, orlu and okigwe whereas they're many towns in there.

Or Anambra which take pride in their town names, Nimo, Nibo, Nnobi, Enugwu Agidi, Awka Etiti, igbo ukwu, uli, Aguleri etc, towns here are even more popular than LGA

Or Ebonyi where someone will say I'm from Afikpo, ohaozara, Abakaliki, ohaukwu, ishielu etc

Or Abia where people are also proud of their towns like Abriba, ohafia, isuochi, Ngwá, umuahia, igbere, izu-Akoli etc

Imo people should take charge of their origin and stop simply hiding under owerri, okigwe and orlu zones

If you asked an Anambrarian where he is from he would mention his town,I am from Alor,I am from Uga,uli etc but ask someone from Oru or Njaba and he would first mention orlu and when you question furthermore they then mention their L.g.a and then their hometown,one even told me that he is from "Njaba orlu" as if there are two njaba in igboland that he had to add orlu there

I think its inferiority complex At work here,most are not proud of where they are from or feel their hometown isnt popular enough they just chip in Orlu so as to avoid explaining too much,Nnobi is just a stone throw from the great Nnewi but they won't claim to be ndi Nnewi

Leave Berem, that's her style always seeking for attention. She always like joining where the heat is high, if majority of people here say that Orlu is neglected that's where she will belong. Okporo has many good roads and it's fast developing because of many government properties sited there.
