A group of bandits heavily armed stormed the Magamar Jibia border axis in Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State over the weekend, leaving two passengers dead and three others kidnapped.
On Sunday, a witness reported seeing the bandits attack the border community at around 9:15 p.m.
He described how the thugs had previously stopped two vehicles along the main road, killed two passengers, and abducted three more before being driven off by mixed police and military force.

“Before the police and soldiers fought them off, they stopped two vehicles, killed two passengers, and kidnapped three. This is the picture of one of the victims,” the source said.
Although the police authorities have not yet confirmed the occurrence, it has been heard that the Jibia axis remains vulnerable despite a decline in banditry activity in the state notwithstanding the security checkpoints installed on the road to monitor both people's movements and, in particular, the movement of smuggled goods.
Ibrahim Katsina, the state governor's special adviser on security issues, revealed in an exclusive interview that several bandit leaders reportedly gave up their weapons last week and contacted the Katsina State Government in an effort to forge a strong, mutually beneficial peace deal.

The Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) National Working Committee (NWC) has distanced itself from a new primary election allegedly held by Jimi Lawal, one of the party's candidates for governor of Ogun State.
Sen. Iyorchia Ayu, the PDP National Chairman, included this in a disclaimer that was delivered to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on October 19.
According to DAILY POST, the PDP chapter in Ogun State suspended Lawal and four other members on Monday 17th of October for "organizing an illegal primary."
All previous PDP primary elections were declared invalid by an Abeokuta Federal High Court on September 27th, and the party was ordered to hold new primaries within 14 days.
Unhappy with the ruling, the PDP NWC filed an appeal, questioning how Jimi Lawal and his supporters would assume control of the party's national body by contacting INEC and organizing the phony primary election.
“We write to draw the attention of the Commission to a purported primary election conducted by some persons claiming to be State Executive Members of our party, allegedly held on Monday, 17th October 2022, in Abeokuta, the Ogun State Capital.”
“This is coming days after the 14 days ordered by the Federal High Court for the party to conduct a fresh primary election.”
“The 14 days ordered by the Federal High Court, Abeokuta division within which the party was to conduct a fresh primary election lapsed on Tuesday, 10th October, 2022, and no fresh Primaries was conducted in Ogun State, the party having resolved to go on appeal and rightly so.”
“This, being our position, we were surprised to read both on print media and online media that some persons claiming to be part of a faction of the party conducted a fresh primary on behalf of the party on Monday, 17th October, 2022, 7 days after the 14 days ordered by the Federal High Court, Abeokuta division which the party appealed against has lapsed,” Ayu said.
In a copy of the letter acknowledged by the office of the INEC National Chairman on October 20, Ayu said, “Section 50 of the Constitution of the Peoples Democratic Party (as amended in 2017) empowers the National Working Committee acting on behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) to formulate guidelines and regulations for the nomination of candidates for election into public offices at all levels and shall be the final authority for resolving all disputes relating to the choice of candidates for the party for any election and for conveying to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) or any other authority to whom it may concern, confirming the names or list of names of candidates of the party in any elective office in the federation. This section enjoys a plethora of judicial backings.”
In the letter co-signed by Ayu and the National Secretary of the party, Samuel Anyanwu, the party called the attention of the electoral umpire to the provisions of the Electoral Act 2022, saying, “The Act provides that all correspondences between the Commission and political parties must be signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary of the party and not State Executives.”
Ayu said: “We are by this letter, notifying the commission of this illegality and to further inform the Commission that the National Working Committee is dissociating itself from the said fresh primary election conducted by persons other than the National Working Committee. We do not recognize these persons involved in this illegality.”
“In view of the foregoing, the Commission is advised to refrain from accepting any letters or correspondences written on behalf of the party by any State Executive of Ogun State and should be circumspect in its dealings with these persons in the future.”

According to NAN, two security guards who are accused of stealing N1 million worth of iron rods on Friday 21st October appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court on a three-count charge.
Baba Shadricks, 26; likewise Daniel Eni, 42; are being tried alongside 18-year-old Isa Abduraman; and 27-year-old Suraju Mamman; who is said to have been given the stolen iron rods.
The defendants, according to the prosecutor, Insp. Innocent Odugbo, committed the alleged offenses from March to September at No. Agege, Lagos, 41, Capitol Road.
The defendants who are all residents of Agege, Lagos State, according to Odugbo claim, were employed as security guards by Mr. Christian Ajamman, the complainant.
He stated that the complainant discovered that the security guards were stealing iron rods from him through a closed-circuit television camera.
The security guards told the police that they had been selling the iron rods to Abdulraman and Mamman when they were arrested, according to the prosecutor.
Sections 287, 328, and 411 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015, are in violation by the alleged offenses.
The defendants were granted bail in the amount of N150, 000 each with two sureties in the same amount by the Magistrate, Mr. L.O. Owolabi, and thereafter, he adjourned the case until the 28th of October for mention.

The family of the late ex-Big Brother Naija Season Three (3) housemate, Patrick Fakoya, known more popularly as Rico Swavey, has shared information about his burial arrangement with the general public.

Thav Media had earlier reported that Rico Swavey was involved in a fatal car accident on the 11th of October and was rushed to Doren Specialist Hospital, Ajah where he was on life support for 48hrs, but however, passed away on the 13th of October at a different medical facility.

On Tuesday morning, the family in a statement shared via social media said the night of tribute and candlelight would hold on October 19th, 2022, while Rico Swavey will be laid to rest on October 20th.
The post shared on Twitter read: “With a heavy heart, we invite all friends and fans of Rico Swavey to his tribute night/candlelight walk tomorrow as we witness a star supernova. Thank you all.”

The Enugu Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a statement on Saturday, 15th October 2022 announced its arrest of twelve (12) bankers in Enugu.

According to the statement by its spokesperson, Wilson Uwujarem, EFCC said the suspects were arrested on Friday, 14th October, by its operatives from the Enugu Zonal Command of the commission.
EFCC said in a statement that the suspects are being accused of “insider fraud,” and would be charged in court as soon as investigations are concluded.

The suspects are; Odeniyi Anthony, Deki Kingsley Onyekachi, Oguchukwu Ene, Elendu Chizaram, Victoria Ezedie, and Chidi-Ukah Obinna.
As well as; Anyakora Uchenna, Onah Kingsley, Akwe Elizabeth and Chinenye Grace Acibe, Etoh Lawrence Uzochukwu, and Udeze Harrison.

“The stolen funds were transferred from the dormant accounts to various beneficiaries, with the principal beneficiary already identified by the EFCC,” the agency said.
Although the EFCC is yet to disclose whether or not the arrested suspects were staffers of the bank, the identity of the bank where the alleged fraud occurred also remains unknown.
“The suspects will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded,” the EFCC added.
For a while now, a good number of Nigerians have been victims of missing funds, especially those who did not use their accounts for a long period of time.

On Tuesday the 18th of October 2022, armed gunmen were reported to have attacked a general hospital in Niger State, killing two persons during the process.
The attack is said to have been on the Abdulsalam Abubakar General Hospital, Gulu, Lapai Local Government Area of Niger State, at about 02:00 a.m. in the morning. While two persons were left dead, over ten persons including the hospital Doctor and the Pharmacist are unaccounted for, reportedly kidnapped.

Amongst the deceased is said to be a retired medical personnel known as Ya-Tachi, who lived directly opposite the hospital in the area.
DAILY POST reports that the bandits, in large numbers, stormed the hospital shooting sporadically during their operation without any intervention from security personnel and the local vigilantes from the area.

Zakari Nda a resident of the area told a DAILY POST correspondent in a telephone chat that the gunmen unleashed attacks on the hospital resulting in the death of two persons.
“They arrived in large numbers and were shooting sporadically, which sent fears into the people during the period of their operation.
“At the end of the operation, many people were abducted and some wounded,” he stated.
He also called on the Niger State government and the security personnel to rise up and do the needful in order to end the incessant attacks on communities.

This attack brings the number of attacks on different communities within the area in recent times to four (4). Residents of the area have been thrown into a state of pandemonium with good reason to worry as the security agents and vigilantes in the area where nowhere to be found as of the time of the attacks and efforts to get the reaction of the State Police command failed as the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, DSP Wasiu Abiodun could not be reached as of the time of filing this report.

Bishop Stephen Adegbite, the Lagos Chairman of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), on Tuesday the 18th of October 2022, in a bid to correct the damages made by his earlier statement said he was “quoted out of context” by a section of the media claiming that his statement was that of an endorsement of the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

Adegbite who was quoted to have said, “God will punish us if we don’t support Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu,” had incurred the wrath of many church leaders within and outside the apex Christian body as the body as a collective had taken a stance to not support any political party that floats same-faith presidential ticket.

According to Vanguard reports, the Bishop said mischief makers misrepresented his remarks during the presentation of the stewardship report of 12 years sojourn in the Senate presented by the Senator representing Lagos Central Senatorial District in the Upper Legislative Chamber, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, OON.
However, in a statement by Very Rev. Oladapo Daramola, his Special Adviser on Media and Public Relations, the Bishop explained further, saying that he is quite mindful of his position of trust as the leader of Christians in the Lagos state and would never speak loosely or anything close to invoking God’s curse on those who do not vote for Tinubu.

The Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha has announced the kidnap of a Priest with the Archdiocese, Rev. Fr. Joseph Igweagu who was kidnapped in Anambra State.
Reports say that Rev. Fr. Igweagu, the Parish Priest in charge of St Joseph’s Parish located at Abata Nsugbe, Anambra East Local Government Area was abducted on Wednesday, the 12th of October, 2022, on his way home after celebrating a Funeral Vigil Mass at Umunnachi in Njikoka Council area of the state.

A statement by the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha, titled: ‘An urgent call for sincere prayer for Kidnap of Rev. Fr Joseph Igweagu, signed by the Archdiocesan Chancellor of Catholics Archdiocese of Onitsha’.
Fr. Prudentius Emeja Aroh, who announced the priest's kidnap, is yet to disclose whether or not the abductors have called to demand ransom.

Hon. Linus Okorie, Senatorial Candidate of the Labour Party for the Ebonyi South Senatorial district has allegedly been kidnapped.
According to the reports, the former House of Representatives member was abducted in Abakaliki, the Ebonyi State capital on Sunday, the 16th of October 2022.
A statement signed by David Ogbonna on behalf of Linus Okorie Caring Heart Foundation says that Okorie was alleged to have been abducted by an Ebube Agu security outfit in the state.

The statement reads, “Hon. Linus Abaa Okorie was kidnapped early this morning on his way to his house in Abakaliki by gunmen known to be men of the Ebube Agu Security outfit allegedly sent by the Onicha Local Government Chairman.
“The available information confirms that he’d been severely tortured to a near-death situation, made naked, and pictures of him taken by his abductors.

“Their end-point motive is to torture him to death and dump his body at Ebonyi river. His phones are currently with the team commander of his abductors.
“A professional tracking done on his lines revealed ‘Okoja Road, near Police Headquarters’, as his current location. The second line showed ‘Ebun-Nwana, Edda’.
“We’re believing that his abductors may have kept his half-dead body at an old Government house where the previous actions of the indicted militia group usually take place," the statement partly read.

In reponse to the accusations, Mr. Friday Ujor, The Sector Commander of Ebube Agu, when contacted on the telephone described it as unfounded and malicious.
Ujor said, "The information is fake. There is nothing concerning Ebube Agu with that information.
“I have asked the people sending this where it happened, maybe he has fallen into the hands of kidnappers and they are calling Ebube Agu.
"How can someone say that his phone is reading Ebounwana in Afikpo and Abakaliki at the same time? This is a clear case of you wanting to kill a dog and you give it a bad name to suit what you want."

Meanwhile, with all the allegations flying around, the state police command has been silent on the incident and all efforts to speak with the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Chris Anyawu, have proved abortive, as he did not answer his calls.
Earlier reports from SaharaReporters says that Okorie’s wife, Nkiru, in a video which was posted on Twitter by Dr Charles Odogwu, on Monday, alleged that her husband had been abducted by Ebube Agu security outfit, which she claimed was working for Umahi.
Nkiru said she was out of the country to get a master’s degree but was told he had been kidnapped when she could not reach him on the phone.
