This is where you guys always get it wrong. The fact that he hasn't won a major trophy with the national team does not mean he performs poorly. He plays very well always. He has about 80 int'l goals....yesterday, he scored a superb free. Now, is he supposed to score and still defend at the same time?? If not for Messi, Argentina would have misses out of 2018 WC in Russia. Winning player of the tournament more than once with an underperforming team shows that, he doesn't play badly....it simply shows that the overall team performance needs to improve if they are to win any trophy.

Ronaldo faced this same problem with Portugal until they started producing good and committed players. Ronaldo played euro 2008, 2012 & 2016 and even the world cup in 2010 and 2014 despite all his effort, what did Portugal achieve? Nothing cos he couldn't do it alone.

In terms of individual quality, very few countries can match Argentina but they still perform below expectation.
