Buharinomics: Innoson Vehicle Plant Stops Production on Dollar Shortage
Pat Melik
Nigeria’s main Vehicle assembly plant Innoson Vehicle Manufacturing (IVM) is shutting production because of the dire economic situation and lack of foreign exchange to vehicle import components like engines.

Workers at IVM have already been sent home because of a lack of parts from Japan, China and Germany, which account for much of the content of the vehicles they produce, chairman Innocent Chukwuma told Reuters.

Production had stopped “as we are waiting for the imported items for which there is a forex issue,” Chukwuma said.

Launched in 2010, IVM last year raised its annual production target for 2016 from 4,000 to 6,000 vehicles due to a “Made in Nigeria” campaign that generated strong sales to the police, state agencies and churches.

Those ambitions are now looking shaky if promises of government assistance fail to materialise, Chukwuma said.

“I believe they are doing something but if they can’t do anything we’ll lay off some workers,” Chukwuma said.

Nigeria’s increasingly lame duck President Muhammadu Buhari has failed to acknowledge the seriousness or act with urgency to arrest the worst economic crises the country is facing since 1991.

The economy is officially in recession, while all his Ministers make are promises, with nothing concrete to show two years into the President’s four year tenure.
Religion / Bombshell! Archbishop Okojie's Open Letter To Buhari. A Must Read by biafransoul: 8:03pm On Aug 29, 2016
DEAR Mr. President
Last year, when you assumed office, the chant of “Change”, your campaign slogan, ushered you into the Presidential Villa. Today, cries of “hunger” could be heard across the length and breadth of our vast country. Nigerians hunger, not only for food, but also for good leadership, for peace, security and justice. This letter is to appeal to you to do something fast, and, if you are already doing something, to redouble your effort. May it not be written on the pages of history that Nigerians die of starvation under your watch. As President, you are chief servant of the nation. I therefore urge you to live up to the huge expectation of millions of Nigerians. A stitch in time saves nine. The way forward This is the second year of your administration. You and your party promised to lead the masses to the Promised Land. It is not an easy task to lead. But by campaigning for this office, you offered to take the enormous task of leadership upon yourself. Nigerians are waiting for you to fulfill the promises you made during the campaign. They voted you into office because of those promises. The introduction of town hall meetings is a commendable idea. But in practice, you, not just your ministers, must converse with Nigerians. You are the President. You must be accountable to them. The buck stops on your desk. Even if your administration has no magic wand at least give some words of encouragement. On this same score, please instruct your ministers, and insist that they be sincere and polite at those town meetings. Their sophistry will neither serve you nor Nigerians. Mr. President, if you want to leave a credible legacy come 2019, in all sincerity, please retool your administration.
Change is desirable. But it must be a change for the better. Let this change be real. Change is not real when old things that we ought to discard refuse to pass away. You will need to take a critical look at your cabinet, at the policies and programmes of your administration, and at those who help you to formulate and execute them. You will need to take a critical look at the manner of appointments you have been making. It is true that commonsense dictates that you appoint men and women you can trust. But if most of the people you trust are from one section of the country and practice the same religion, then you and all of us are living in insecurity. The Nigerian economy has never been in a state as terrible as this. You as President are like pilot of an aircraft flying in turbulence. Turbulent times bring the best or the worst out of a pilot. We can no longer blame the turbulence on past administrations. You know quite well that some of the officials of your administration served in previous dispensations. Blame for what we have been experiencing is in fact bipartisan in character. The entire political class needs to come together, irrespective of party differences, to acknowledge its collective guilt and to seek ways of saving the sinking ship that our country has become. This cannot be done if some officials of your administration demonise and alienate members of the opposition. If a large portion of the blame for the present situation is to be laid on the doorsteps of the entire political class, the search for solution must involve everyone. That is why no one should be alienated. All hands must be on deck. This is the time to revitalise moribund industries, reinvigorate our agriculture, make our country tourist and investor friendly, and enable our young men and women to find fulfillment by contributing to the common good. None of these lofty goals can be achieved without good education.
On this particular issue, recent appointments you have made in the education sector raise a question: have you really appointed the best? Still on education, it is important that our universities be allowed to use their own criteria to admit students. It is a gross violation of the principles of federalism and academic freedom for the federal government to insist that only a federal parastatal can decide on who gains admission into our universities. It is the role of the university senate, not of government bureaucrats, to decide on who gets admitted and who is awarded a certificate.
The war on corruption Mr. President, your desire to wage a war on corruption is just and noble. But a just war must be waged with just means. Those who have stolen the wealth of this country have broken the laws of our country. They must be treated according to the law and not outside the law, and the outcome of the judicial process must be respected by government. Even accused persons have rights. Where those rights are violated, we risk a descent to anarchy. It is our candid opinion that corruption is not found in only one party. No political party in Nigeria has a monopoly of looters. That is why we need an EFCC that is thoroughly independent of the presidency, and an Attorney General without party affiliation working in partnership with various independent accounting institutes. This will ensure that we come up with an objective list of those who plundered our treasury. Mr. President, pardon me if I sound like a gratuitous counselor. I owe you the truth and nothing but the truth. In my life as a public figure and a religious leader, I have offered my counsel, for whatever its worth, to quite a number of Presidents in this country. I do this because I desire that you succeed. For the success of the leader is the success of the citizens. If there is no solution to Nigeria’s problem there may be endless war. You strike one town, you gain it, and you come again to regain it. Remember that you cannot put a crown on your head. It is the people who put it on you. Otherwise one day, you will get tired of it. Please listen to the legitimate cries of your fellow citizens. Cardinal Anthony Okogie, emeritus Archbishop of Lagos, wrote from Lagos

chrisblack:
you are the on who is wrong. Are you talking about liman who fined igbnedion 3m for a theft of 25bn.
Go check your fact .
Parties have an uncompromising duty to obey court order until it is set aside. The Lagos Division made orders on May 12 and 20, forbidding the PDP from removing the Sheriff-led Caretaker Committee. That order was still subsisting. When liman dabbled into the issue. This was wrong because both courts care of coordinate jurisdiction.
Abang his only trying to teach them all the simple understanding and interpretation of law. This was also settled by the supreme court as far back 2004.please go and read

The first case was settled by Liman in PH. http://www.elombah.com/index.php/reports/8407-pdp-court-confirms-the-sack-of-ali-modu-sheriff before the convention and that's the reason Sheriff appealed and hasn't got any superior judgement. Why rush back to a lower court for an injunction? Abuse of court process? The first judgement stands

you are wrong, Abang was Correct. Even the Port Harcourt ruling was clever .it never insisted the party should hold the election.get your facts right.it only asked the relevant authorities to provided support.some of you are just funny and blinded by your myopic and bigoted minds.at the appeal or supreme court level the port Harcourt ruling can not stand. Even on channels Tv yesterday the SAN interviewed said the same thing. The Supreme court made a decision on this issues since 2004. Do your research, even a year1 law student knows this

You're the wrong one here. Tell me of any appellate court that invalidated Justice Liman's judgement? The preceding Judgement stands and any injunction not coming from an Appeal court is null and void. You should know that

Joenyam:
I am not an APC or PDP faithful but I'll like to make these points:
1. Justice A. Mohammed of the FCT High court ruled that Sheriff's tenure is interim and not till 2018 as claimed by Sheriff.
2. Justice Liman upheld the PDP may convention; thus, held the convention that removed Sheriff. Note: the case before Liman is the first in all these controversies.
3 Sheriff tabled his prayers before the appeal court and should have waited for the higher court but instead ran to another high court of equal jurisdiction. Thats illegal.
4. The Makarfi's faction tabled a case before Justice Wakifa who upheld the decision of Justice Liman.
5. Justice Abang is not an appeal court and should have refered to the appeal court. Infact all parties should have waited for the appeal to Justice Liman's judgment since they are a court of co-ordinate jurisdiction.
6. The Police immediately took sides with the Justice Abang's judgement and took upon itself such courage to flaunt the orders of Justices Liman and Wakifa. What is that if not politics with the government trying to enforce one party system. Or is it because Justice Abang threatened with a Form 48?
7. Infact today there is already an appeal against the judgement of Justice Abang. Hence, the convention can hold.

I don't know why politicians keep toying with our judicial system and these justices keep helping them to destroy the system.

I shudder to see some slaves reason through their anus just to be or sound political correct. Freeze01, you even have the time to be educating the slowpoke. What business do government have in grabbing people's ancestral land and giving it to some marauders just to please them. Have they considered doing same for the rest tribes especially those that rear pigs in the north? Buhari Islamic agenda to penetrate the entire parts of Nigeria under this senseless bill will only lead to the quick disintegration of the entity called Nigeria. I bought the land I use for my farm and Fulanis should equally do same for the sake of fairness, equality and justice. I can only give them a piece of my land if they are ready to forfeit the entire palace of the Sultan of sokoto so I can equally use it for piggery.
