Nigerians are renowned for engaging in all manners of odd jobs to earn a living wherever they find themselves.

Although some Nigerians would decide to engage themselves in illegal acts like internet fraud popularly called ‘yahoo yahoo’, prostitution, drug trafficking, some with conscience would rather choose menial jobs.

For residents of Lagos State, the city they say never sleeps, several jobs are invented in a bid to come up with a source of living. For instance, think about how being a ‘danfo driver’ (bus driver) and a bus conductor came about.

Politics12 Die As Members Of Cult Groups Clash In Bloody Scuffle by bidesco(op): 3:07pm On Apr 29, 2015
Reports from Edo state indicate that no fewer than 12 people have been feared dead at different locations in Benin City, the Edo state capital, in a bloody renewed cult war between rival groups.

According to a report published by Leadership, it was gathered that the clash between members of Eiye confraternity, , and Maphite group intensified, recording higher casualties.

The trouble started after a disagreement occurred over the beating to death of a member at a polling centre in Benin during the April 11 state assembly elections, resulting in a reprisal attack which later spread to other part of the metropolis.

Yesterday’s killing which occurred around Second East Circular and New Lagos Road also claimed the life of a 27-year-old barber.

According to an eye witness, a 70-year-old wood seller, Mrs Philomena Evbuomwan, gunmen shot their victim (the barber) in the head and chest and ensured that he was dead before they left.

Evbuomwan added that she was threatened by the gunmen, who pointed a gun at her.

She said, “I was selling wood when Patrick greeted me. I later sat with him. Suddenly, three boys walked towards us.
“One pointed a gun at my head and later dropped it. He shot Patrick; the other one also fired a shot.

The third person took his gun and tapped Patrick. When he saw that he was dead, they ran away. After that, I fainted.”

PoliticsAsari Dokubo Threatens To Deal With Buhari by bidesco(op): 8:44pm On Apr 26, 2015
Leader of the Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Asari Dokubo, has for the umpteenth time threatened deal with Mohammadu Buhari if the president elect chooses to imbibe a Pharaoh like regime when he assumes office on May 29.

The ex-warlord also dismissed fears that Buhari could send any one to jail, saying the president-elect does not have the power to imprison anybody.

Dokubo, who was taking a swipe at a Buhari supporter, Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim, on his Facebook page, made reference to a biblical allusion when he threatened to deal with Buhari in a Moses like manner if Buhari adopts a Pharaoh like regime.

He said: Mohammed Kabir Ibrahim your Buhari does not have that power to send any body to prison….get that into your piggy skull and nobody is afraid of him….We are waiting for him….following the example of GEAJ does not make us cowards….If he Buhari wants to be a Pharaoh….then he will find a Moses in me.

This is not the first time Asari Dokubo will be uttering such threatening statements, following the defeat of President Goodluck Jonathan in the March 28 presidential election, Dokubo said he and other militants may be forced to return to the creeks.

The ex-militant had also in January said he and his colleagues would wreak havoc if Jonathan lost the election.

While Asari Dokubo has maintained a defiant disposition towards Buhari, other ex-militants have promised to cooperate with the incoming administration.

They have however pleaded with Buhari not to discontinue the amnesty programme of the Federal government, saying their support for him depends on the sustainability of the programme.

PoliticsLadoja Is Anti-democrat – APC by bidesco(op): 8:11pm On Apr 26, 2015
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has urged Senator Rashidi Ladoja to wake up from the world of the spirit and see the reality that Abiola Ajimobi is governor-elect of Oyo state.

This comes after the former governor said he would not accept the final results as collated and announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) which saw him emerge second behind the Governor Ajimobi during the April 11 guber election in the state.

Senator Ladoja had alleged he cited some irregularities in the April 11 election, which he had promised to prove before the Election Tribunal set up in the state.

The former governor of the state also alleged that the people of Oyo were in a mourning mood over the announcement of Ajimobi as the winner of the election.

However, reacting to Ladoja’s comment, the APC in Oyo State claims that Senator Ladoja does not have respect for the wishes of the people of Oyo, Punch reports.

The party also described Ladoja as an avowed anti-democrat “whose penchant for placing personal interests above that of the society could not be rivalled.”
Ladoja Is Anti-Democrat – APC
Governor Abiola Ajimobi

In a statement issued by its Director of Publicity and Strategy, Olawale Sadare, the party stated that it was disturbing to note that the former governor would not accept the result of an election “described as one of the fairest in the history of elections in the state.”

The statement said in part, “It is apparent that those who fooled Ladoja that they saw him sitting on Ajimobi’s seat at the Agodi Government House are the ones who make him arrogant and disdainful of the people and the wishes of the people. He should wake up from the world of the spirit and see the reality that Ajimobi has effectively retired him from the politics of Oyo State.

“Describing the mood of the people as mournful after Ajimobi secured a vital victory for the continuity of good governance as against the impunity, reign of terror and nepotism which marred the administration by the same Ladoja is the height of disrespect for the people of Oyo State. It is also tantamount to declaring war against democracy and the society, having once benefitted from same democratic system even though in a questionable circumstance.”

Ladoja garnered 254,520 votes to emerge second behind the incumbent governor, Abiola Ajimobi who polled 327,310 votes in the just-concluded governorship election to break the second term jinx in Oyo state and become the first governor to be elected twice.

PoliticsAPC Drags Fayose To NHRC, ICC by bidesco(op): 1:47pm On Apr 22, 2015
The All Progressives Congress in Ekiti state has urged the National Human Rights Commission and the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Holland, to prosecute Governor Ayodele Fayose.

According to The Punch, the party accused the governor of making inciting broadcasts on the state radio and television by urging his supporters into “an act of rage and violence” to attack the 19 APC lawmakers in the Ekiti State House of Assembly thus preventing the lawmakers from performing their constitutional duties.

The APC said the statement by Fayose had threatened the peace of the state in the past few days.

But the governor dismissed the call by the APC as coming from a group of people that lacked decorum.

The APC publicity secretary, Taiwo Olatubosun, in a statement on Tuesday, said the call to the ICC and NHRC became imperative because of the death of one person recorded in Efon Alaaye and the near collapse of the peace after the governor’s live broadcast.

Olatubosun said, “Governor Fayose few weeks ago mobilised his supporters to confront the APC lawmakers who were coming to perform their legal duties in Ekiti State. He had earlier urged his supporters to defend his election with the last the drop of their blood.

“In obedience to his order, his supporters in Efon stormed the security check-point and engaged the security agents who they perceived as paving the way for the APC lawmakers to enter the state. In the ensuing gunfire, Modupe Olaiya was shot dead.

“In response, Fayose rented a woman to pose as the mother of the deceased to claim that an APC lawmaker shot Modupe dead.

“Few days later, the real mother of the deceased showed up, raising the alarm in the media that the impersonator was a woman leader of Fayose’s party. She accused the impersonator of taking government’s inducement to implicate an innocent man.”

The party urged the rights commission and the ICC to open their books for the earlier petitions over rights abuses by the governor, saying Fayose remained the greatest security risk to peace in the state.

Fayose, who reacted through his chief press secretary, Idowu Adelusi, said it was ridiculous and a thing of shame for the APC to call on the NHRC and the ICC to sanction somebody exercising the mandate freely given to him by voters.

He said, “The facts that APC leaders have sold their conscience for a pot of porridge does not mean others have done same.

“They killed Modupe Olaiya, and that was the 12th person APC people would kill in Ekiti State since when Kayode Fayemi came to office.”

The Elders forum of the APC in Ekiti State has declared that there is no escape route for the state Governor Ayo Fayose.
