The Niger Republic's government claims that during a military operation in the Diffa region, its armed forces killed Ibrahim Bakoura, also known as Abu Oumaima, a senior Boko Haram leader.

The operation was conducted on August 15 through a series of precision airstrikes targeting Boko Haram locations in Korongol, Kournawa, and Shilawa, according to a statement made on Tuesday by the Nigerien Armed Forces (FAN).
Bakoura, a key role in the faction's structure, was among the high-ranking commanders killed by the strikes, which also reportedly destroyed logistical supplies and neutralised scores more fighters.
There were also claims that is still alive, as reported by @Zagazola - However, in an intercepted communication obtained by sources on Saturday , Bakoura dismissed the report of his death as false.

Morocco’s claim that its intelligence services guided Niger’s military to neutralise Boko Haram commander Ibrahim Mahamadou, popularly known as “Bakoura Doro,” has again been placed in doubt as new evidence suggests the militant leader may still be alive.

Niger’s military authorities announced on August 15 that Bakoura was killed in a “surgical operation” in the Diffa region, with airstrikes targeting insurgent hideouts in the Bosso–Abadam axis.

The report, widely disseminated by Niger’s state broadcaster RTN, credited Morocco with providing crucial intelligence that enabled the operation. The announcement was hailed as a major counterterrorism breakthrough in both Niger and Nigeria, signaling a significant victory in West Africa’s fight against terrorism.

However, multiple sources close to Bakoura have contended that he was not killed and remains alive and unharmed. In what appeared to corroborate those claims, Bakoura is alleged to have appeared in an audio message denying the attack and dismissing Niger’s account as “false propaganda.” Bakoura allegedly stated that the photograph circulated as evidence of his death traces back to an image taken roughly seven years ago.

It is understood that the Nigerien authorities, under pressure to demonstrate progress against terrorism and to project a victory they have not yet achieved amidst dwindling security and economic challenges, used the operation for political messaging as much as for security purposes. The government has been struggling with credibility, and the claim of Bakoura’s death appeared to be an opportunity to rally public support.

In May 2024, Niger claimed it had apprehended Nigeria’s infamous bandit kingpin, Baleri (often described as a cousin or ally of Bello Turji), along with 65 of his men in southern Nigeria. The claim proved false when Turji and Baleri released a video dismissing it. Earlier, Niger had also claimed initial success against Bakoura, saying he was badly injured in airstrikes; that report likewise turned out to be untrue.

As of now, the true status of Bakoura remains unclear, illustrating the fog of war in a region still struggling with one of Africa’s longest-running insurgencies.

[/b]Troops foil another IED-laying attempt by terrorists along Marte–Dikwa road[b]



Troops of Operation Hadin Kai have foiled another an attempt by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists to plant improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along the Marte–Dikwa road in Borno State.

Zagazola Makama learnt from sources that the operation was part of renewed and sustained offensives directed by the military high command to deny terrorists freedom of action in the North East theatre.

The incident occurred at about 2:01 a.m. on Tuesday, when troops of Operation HADIN KAI positioned in an ambush along the strategic route, sighted a group of terrorists attempting to lay mines on a bridge.

The troops immediately engaged the terrorists with superior firepower, forcing them to abandon their equipment and flee into the surrounding bush in disarray.

Two IEDs were recovered at the scene, while there were no casualties recorded among the troops.

precision air interdiction (AI) that neutralised several high-value Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) commanders and fighters. The mission, carried out on 27 July 2025, targeted ARINA WOJE, a notorious ISWAP enclave in the Southern Tumbuns of Borno State, known as a sanctuary for insurgent leaders. The strike followed series of credible Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) sorties that confirmed the return of terrorist elements to the area after recent inter-factional clashes. ISR data revealed significant terrorist activity, including the movement of foot soldiers, reactivation of structures, and the concealment of possible command centres and logistics depots beneath dense foliage.

Acting on credible intelligence, NAF air assets were dispatched to undertake focused strike mission. Aircrew on arrival, acquired and prosecuted pre-selected targets using precision-guided munitions, achieving devastating effects. Preliminary battle damage assessment reveals the destruction of several structures housing key ISWAP leaders, fighters, and logistics storage facilities, effectively disrupting the group’s operational planning and resupply efforts in the region. This operation reflects the NAF’s continued resolve to dislodge terrorist elements, deny them freedom of movement, and support ground forces in restoring peace and stability across Nigeria. It also reinforces the value of intelligence-driven air power missions in modern counter-terrorism operations.

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has inaugurated a new cadre of personnel for specialised training on the 612A Anti-UAV Radar System, marking a strategic step towards strengthening its counter-drone capabilities. The inauguration ceremony held on 26 July 2025 at the Headquarters of the Air Component, Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), in Maiduguri, Borno State. The training programme is designed to equip selected NAF personnel with the technical and operational expertise to detect, track, and neutralise hostile Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) in asymmetrical conflict zones.

The objective of the course reflects the vision of the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Hasan Bala Abubakar, which places strong emphasis on mastering emerging technologies in modern warfare. According to him, “the importance of mastering both the theoretical and practical aspects of this training cannot be overstated,” he noted. “The NAF expects nothing less than excellence as you embark on this mission-critical training to enhance our operational effectiveness.”

During the inauguration, the Air Component Commander OPHK, Air Commodore UU Idris, described the initiative as timely, given the increasing use of improvised drones by adversaries in the region. “The threats posed by hostile and improvised drone systems have challenged conventional air and ground security strategies,” he noted. “This specialised training will significantly enhance our situational awareness and defensive capabilities.” The initiative represents another significant step in the NAF’s efforts to maintain air superiority and safeguard national security in a rapidly evolving battlespace.

I tend to wonder if our SF do false-flag ops. Attack BH and make it look like ISWAP and vice versa, harass both for casualty sake. I'm an armchair general but I wish the employment of SF (Army) is beyond the ranger-style direct action.

Its not about "arm-Chairman general talk"; take the fight to them always and inflict heavy casualties on them.

[/b]In a deliberate joint operation, troops of the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Air Component of the Nigerian Air Force, successfully thwarted an attempted incursion by terrorists into Bangi community in Mariga Local Government Area of Niger State on 24 June 2025[b]

The operation, which was based on credible intelligence, led to troops engaging about 300 armed bandits in Kwanar Dutse Forest. The criminals had attempted a night-time transit towards Kwatankoro Forest, where they were reportedly planning coordinated attacks on surrounding communities or looking for a safe haven to evade the pressure from our operations in Zamfara State. However, their movement and actions were effectively disrupted by troops who engaged them in a fierce firefight that lasted over three hours.

Sequel to the ground engagement by the Nigerian Army troops, the Nigerian Air Force conducted precision airstrikes on the terrorists’ withdrawal routes, delivering accurate heavy bombardments on identified terrorists’ locations. Although the exact number of casualties could not be ascertained, multiple blood trails along their escape routes presumably indicate significant enemy losses. Further operation is ongoing to ascertain the full extent of the damage inflicted on the terrorists.

[/b]Regrettably, seventeen brave and gallant soldiers paid the supreme price during the encounter, while ten others sustained varying degrees of injury. The wounded personnel have been evacuated to a military medical facility, where they are receiving treatment and are in stable condition[b]

The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Oluwafemi Oluyede, has extended his heartfelt condolences to the families of our fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice in the service of our great country, Nigeria. The Chief of Army Staff also directed the military medical teams to ensure the best possible care for the injured troops. The relevant Nigerian Army departments have also been tasked to engage with the families of all our gallant warriors who have undoubtedly performed their duty, most admirably.

The Nigerian Army remains resolute in its mission to secure all communities and protect the lives and property of all our citizens across the nation. The sanctity of our freedom shall not be mortgaged and the Nigerian Army, in collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, the Nigerian Air Force, other security agencies and of course, the great people of our nation will continue to work tirelessly to see an end to terrorism, banditry and other forms of criminality plaguing our society.
