NAF GRADUATES ANOTHER SET OF TRAINEES, RECRUITS 5,707 IN LESS THAN 3 YEARS

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) yesterday, 2 February 2018, graduated 1,544 recruits, who have just successfully completed the Basic Military Training Course (BMTC) 38/2017 at the NAF’s Military Training Centre (MTC), Kaduna. The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, who was the Reviewing Officer and Guest of Honour during the colourful Passing Out Parade (POP) ceremony, stated that the NAF had trained a total of 5,707 young Nigerians as airmen/airwomen since July 2015, when the current NAF leadership assumed office. This, according to him, is in consonance with the NAF’s aspiration of boosting the capacity of the Service to curtail insecurity and insurgency in Nigeria. He then expressed his delight that the efforts made by the current administration at expanding the training facilities have continued to meet the desired objectives.

Speaking further during the Passing Out Parade ceremony held on the Parade Ground of MTC, Air Marshal Abubakar said the 6 months of rigorous training was designed to prepare the recruits for a challenging but rewarding career. He added that he was not too surprised that 55 of those who started the training could not withstand the strenuous training. He therefore congratulated the graduands for their resilience to withstand the rigours of training while announcing that they would be further equipped through series of specialist training courses in the course of their career in the NAF. Air Marshal Abubakar also charged the graduands to take advantage of the knowledge and skill acquired, from the Internal Security Module, to safeguard lives and properties wherever and whenever they were deployed for Internal Security duties. In addition, the CAS reminded the new recruits of their civic responsibility and that they were subject to both military and civil laws. “You should always remember that good civil-military relations is a key component of a civilized society. You must therefore resist the temptation to brutalize civilians. Your duty is to protect all Nigerians irrespective of their political, ethnic, religious or other inclinations”, he added.

Air Marshal Abubakar then assured Mr President of the NAF’s unalloyed loyalty and total commitment to his administration’s aspiration for a peaceful and prosperous Nigeria. One of the highlights of the occasion was the presentation of awards, by the CAS, to the best 3 graduands in order of merit. The award recipients were Aircraftwoman Ololade Olabisi, Aircraftman Elekwachi Ifeanyi and Aircraftman Ukuta Michael, three of who won the CAS Award, AOC GTC Award and Commandant MTC Award respectively. It was the first time in the history of the NAF that a female would come first during BMTC. The POP ceremony was attended by many senior military officers, serving and retired, as well as dignitaries, including the representatives of the Governors of Kaduna and Yobe States. Another set of successful recruits would soon commence the BMTC at MTC, NAF Base Kaduna.

NAVY APPOINTS FIRST FEMALE GENERAL FROM THE NORTH

The Nigerian Navy on Monday decorated Navy Captain Jamila Malafa with her promoted rank of Commodore, equivalent with army rank of Brigadier General, making her the first female of Northern extraction to become a one-star general.

The Chief of Policy and Plans (COPP), Navy Headquarters Abuja, Rear Admiral Henry Babalola said it is a thing of pride to attained the rank of Commodore in the Navy, adding that there are a few women that have achieved such height.

He noted that going by her resume the Nigerian Navy exposed her to a lot of courses and training during her career, capping it up with the prestigious MNI.

He said her elevation should serve as an inspiration to women folk in the Armed Forces, adding that there is no limit to what they can achieve.

Commodore Malafa noted that she is the first female of northern extraction to be promoted to the rank of general in the Navy.

She said the promotion inspires her to be more loyal and dedicated in her duties to the Navy and Nigeria.

PRESS RELEASE

NO UN STAFF KILLED IN MAULA ENCOUNTER WITH INSURGENTS

Contrary to the information currently making the rounds in a section of the media that four United Nations staff had been killed and four trucks conveying food for internally displaced persons were carted away, the Theatre Command Operation Lafiya Dole wishes to state that the report grossly misrepresents the true situation of the incident as none of the casualties in the encounter has been identified as a staff of the UN.

In setting the record straight, it is necessary to state here that a patrol escorting a convoy of civilian vehicles to Logomani encountered an ambush staged by elements of Boko Haram insurgents at Maula village along Dikwa-Ngala trans sahara highway which resulted in a firefight between troops and the insurgents. The troops however fought through the ambush, overpowered the insurgents and killed six of them. The troops also captured 3 AK 47 rifles, 3 locally fabricated fire arms, 4 magazines and a belt of 7.62 mm ammunition. Sadly four persons died in the encounter. Although none of the persons killed in the ambush has so far been identified as a staff of the UN, this Headquarters considers the lives of all citizens and indeed all humans sacrosanct, which must be protected by troops even at a supreme price.

The situation has been brought under control and and further exploitation of the general area is currently being carried out by Mobile strike Team of Operation Lafiya Dole.

Please disseminate this information through your various news media to the general public.

Thank you for your cooperation.

TROOPS INFLICT HEAVY CASUALTY ON BOKO HARAM TERRORISTS AS THEY ABANDON VEHICLES, ARMS AND EQUIPMENT

In continuation of Operation DEEP PUNCH 2, designed to smoke out Boko Haram terrorists inhabiting remote islands in Lake Chad basin lying within Nigerian territory, troops of 8 Division, Nigerian Army, on Operation LAFIYA DOLE, supported by soldiers of the Armed Forces Strike Group have inflicted heavy casualty on Boko Haram terrorists.

The operation which commenced about 2 weeks ago was proceeded by coordinated air and artillery bombardment of islands and localities occupied by terrorists, and from where they sneak into Magumeri, Kauram and other locations to loot property and attack security personnel and villagers.

So far, 20 terrorists have been killed, captured 17 others, while over 100 elderly men, women and children have been rescued. Preliminary investigation has revealed that a large number of the rescued persons were held against their will and forced to work in farms under life threatening conditions and penurious wages. More investigation and interviews will be conducted before the rescued persons are handed over for further action.

The operation which is on - going has yielded handsomely as terrorists abandon vehicles, arms and ammunition, as well as assorted equipment when troops swooped on them. The troops also recovered 1Mercedes Benz Truck,
3 Toyota Land Cruiser Gun Trucks, 5 AK-47 Riffles, 3 Fabrique Nationals (FN) Riffles, 2 G3 Riffles and 1 Pump Action Riffle. Other items include 1 Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) tube, 2 Bombs, 2 Very High Frequency (VHF) Radios and 1 Night Vision Goggle.

The troops also recovered 55 Rounds of 5.56 X 45mm ammunition, 5 Bangalore Torpedo, Two 120mm Mortar Bombs, 1000 Rounds of 7.62mm Ball Metal Link Ammunition, 55 Rounds of 7.62mm Ammunition and 108 Rounds of 12.7mm Ammunition with links, as well as 2 memory cards, 2 Hydraulic Jacks and a 1.5 Amph Battery.

It is heartwarming to note we have not lost any life among our troops so far. However, 6 soldiers sustained various injuries and have since been evacuated for prompt medical attention.

Please, disseminate this information to the general public.

I know there was a split in BH, with one faction pledging to Al-Qaida, and the other to Daesh. Does that correspond to the Shekau vs Albarnawi split you mentioned?
One can't really tell what lead to the split and it might be part of what lead to Shekau and Albarnawi faction.

But hope you know ow that the Albarnawi faction is been headed by the son of the late BH founder Muhammed Yusuf.
