NAF LAYS TO REST REMAINS OF FLIGHT LIEUTENANT HARUNA GADZAMA, 6 OTHERS AT NATIONAL MILITARY CEMETERY ABUJA

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) today, 25 February 2021, laid to rest the remains of 7 of its personnel who died on 21 February 2021 in an air crash involving a NAF Beechcraft King Air B350i aircraft in Abuja. The late gallant personnel were Flight Lieutenant Haruna Gadzama, Flight Lieutenant Henry Piyo, Flying Officer Michael Okpara, Warrant Officer Bassey Etim, Flight Sergeant Olasunkanmi Olawunmi, Sergeant Ugochukwu Oluka and Aircraftman Adewale Johnson. The burial ceremony, which was conducted with full military honours, was held at the National Military Cemetery, Abuja with restricted attendance in compliance with COVID-19 protocols.

Speaking at the Ceremony, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Oladayo Amao, stated that the NAF was still in palpable shock and intense grief over the loss of the gallant and courageous heroes, in whom, he said, the Service had so much confidence. “We salute the supreme sacrifice of these young men, whose lot it became to give their lives in the defence of the peace which we all enjoy and often take for granted”, he added. The CAS noted that their death was a huge loss to the NAF family and indeed the entire Country, stating that they would be greatly missed but fondly remembered for their invaluable services to the Nation and humanity. He remarked further that the young officers and airmen flew their quota of ongoing surveillance missions in the North East, North West and more recently in the North Central over Niger State and its environs in connection with the concerted efforts to secure the release of the staff and students abducted from the Government Science College Kagara, Niger State.

Speaking further, the CAS stated that the loss of the confident and professional young officers and airmen must spur the rest of the personnel not only to rededicate themselves to the service of the Nation, but also to resolve that they would relentlessly expose and fight all agents of destabilisation and extremism in the society. According to him, “we must throw everything that we have into this fight, to ensure that our departed colleagues did not die in vain.” While praying for the peaceful repose of the souls of the fallen heroes, AVM Amao condoled all NAF personnel, the families of the deceased and the entire Nation, whom, he said, the late personnel represented and fought earnestly to protect. The CAS further restated the commitment and unalloyed loyalty of the NAF to the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, President Muhammadu Buhari, in his efforts at tackling the security challenges facing the Nation.

Key moments of the solemn event were the presentation of National Colours to the deceased’s Next-of-Kins by the CAS, laying of wreaths by dignitaries and the wife of Flying Officer Micheal Okpara, Mrs Chioma Okpara, as well as the customary 21-Gun Salute and rendition of "the Last Post". The Faith service was earlier conducted by Group Captain (Reverend) Dogo Gani, Director Chaplaincy (Protestant) Headquarters NAF and Group Captain (Reverend) Philip Kwasau, Director Chaplaincy (Roman Catholic) Headquarters NAF before the caskets were lowered into the graves.

Dignitaries at the burial ceremony included the Special Guest of Honour for the solemn ocassion, the Honourable Minister of Defence, Maj Gen Bashir Magashi (retired); the Executive Governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi; Chairman Senate Committee on Air Force, Distinguished Senator Bala Ibn Na’ Allah; Chairman House Committee on Air Force, Honourable Shehu Koko; Honourable Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen; Honourable Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed; Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Lucky Irabor; the Chief of Army Staff, Major General Ibrahim Attahiru; Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Awwal Gambo; National President Nigerian Air Force Officers’ Wives Association (NAFOWA), Mrs Elizabeth Amao; as well as serving and retired senior military officers, family members and friends of the deceased personnel, amongst other dignitaries.

NAF TO STRENGTHEN PARTNERSHIP WITH CIVIL AVIATION AGENCIES AS OFFICIALS VISIT CAS, CONDOLE SERVICE OVER RECENT AIR CRASH

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reiterated its willingness to collaborate with agencies under the Ministry of Aviation, including the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA), Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Nigeria Meteorological Agency (NIMET), Aircraft Investigation Bureau (AIB) and the Nigeria Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) in the areas of security of navigational infrastructure, calibration of navigational aids, training of personnel and safety of the airspace as well as exchange programmes. The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Vice Marshal Oladayo Amao, disclosed this today, 24 February 2021, while receiving a team of senior officials from the various agencies, led by the Director General (DG) of NCAA, Captain Musa Nuhu, who were on a courtesy visit to Headquarters (HQ) NAF, Abuja, where they also commiserated with the CAS and entire NAF family on the recent air crash that claimed the lives of 7 NAF personnel.

During his remarks, the CAS, while expressing sadness over the loss of the personnel, stated that the proposed deepening of partnership between the NAF and civil aviation agencies would further enhance the efforts of the NAF to improve flight safety and, by extension, operational effectiveness. AVM Amao further noted that, other areas of concern include the certification of all the aviation personnel in the industry. He stated that the Service is made up of highly skilled human resources that could be of tremendous assistance to the society upon retirement. He assured the DG that a Team of NAF personnel would be tasked to liaise with the NCAA and other agencies with a view to formalizing the partnership with a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) that would further improve inter-agency collaboration for mutual benefit whilst also enhancing the security and management of the Nigerian airspace. The CAS also used the opportunity to express his appreciation to the Honourable Minister of Aviation for including the NAF Aprons in Maiduguri and Monguno as part of ongoing work to emplace and upgrade aviation facilities in Borno State. He noted this would no doubt impact positively on the NAF’s operations in the North East.

Earlier in his remarks, the DG NCAA, Captain Musa Nuhu, emphasized that, though cooperation exists between the NAF and NCAA, there were many areas of cooperation yet to be explored for the benefit of the Nation. He disclosed that possible areas of cooperation include Airspace Management, Civil licensing for NAF personnel, approval for some institutions that the NAF has established like the International Helicopter Flying School in Enugu as well as its Aviation Medicine Examination Centre in Kaduna. He noted that the collaboration was to ensure that both the military and civil authorities have a ‘360’ view of the airspace for full development of the country. Captain Nuhu further urged that a team comprising NAF officers be constituted to come up with terms of reference for the MoU between the military and civil organizations in the aviation industry especially, at this time when the NAF is playing a very critical role in the fight against insurgency, banditry and other forms of criminality in the Country. He expressed confidence that the CAS and his team would undoubtedly move the NAF to a much greater heights to achieve the much desired peace for the development of the Nation.

Also present at the event were the Managing Director FAAN, Captain Rabiu Yadudu, and representatives of the Chief Executive Officers of NIMET and AIB as well as Branch Chiefs from the NAF Headquarters.

Zulum at hospitals, confirms 10 deaths, 47 injuries after Boko Haram’s RPG hit Gwange

... Says govt taking measures

.. Optimistic Insurgents won’t retake Marte again

Borno Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum was at two hospitals on Wednesday, after Boko Haram fighters fired shots from Rocket Propelled Grenades, on which killed 10 residents and 47 injured in Maiduguri.

The shots, on Tuesday night, came from Kaleri, an outskirts of Maiduguri, it was learnt, but grenades traveled to hit Gwange and Adam kolo communities, both densely populated areas in the inner city. Most of the deaths occurred in Gwange. One of the RPG shots, hit a children's play ground in Gwange, it was also gathered.

Governor Zulum confirmed the attacks during his empathy visits to the State Specialist Hospital, and the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital, both in Maiduguri. The governor was told that some of the victims had sustained various degrees of injuries and were being treated, for which he directed that the state ministry of health shoulders the bills.

"Indeed it is a very sad moment for the people and government of Borno state, about 60 persons were affected, among them, 10 have died. It was as a result of long distance shots fired by the insurgents. I believe this is a new trend we have to raise up and stop. We experienced a similar incident exactly one year ago. The solution is to deploy an appropriate form of technology, which will have to work on. I share the pains of all those affected but we are not just visiting hospitals, we do so much behind the scene in our combined responses to the Boko Haram insurgency and we will keep making these and more efforts” Zulum said.

Speaking on military’s regain of Marte, which came under Boko Haram’s occupation a few days ago, Governor Zulum said he was not just pleased but also optimistic that the Nigerian military will work had to retain, continue its peace-building and stability efforts in ways that should ensure the insurgents do not take Marte again, or any part of the state.

"I am optimistic that the insurgents will not take over Marte again” Zulum said.

from my little investigation i think the naf crash was a set up aganist the naf by it enemies. let me prove. the naf super king air 350i(naf 200) was station in the northeast and rotate to trouble area when they is a need. before the plane took the jorney to abuja they was and intensive checking to know wheather the plane is fit for the task. the plane flew from minna without any techinial problem reporting to the pilot and landed in abuja . after refilling just 10 min to the filght they was a crash how? from my little investiation they was a set up. 1. what would make a plane that was propaly check to crash 10 min after refuling? was it that the fuel was mixed or the airport petrol agency lied to the pliot that they reful the plane, remember that the plane crash 10 min to the filght do fail engine. 2 why did the plane do not crash when it left minna.
Chairman a lot of things can go wrong while still flying undetected.
There is a common saying or law in aviation/air force called Murphy's law: "if anything that can go wrong will go wrong".

Quick question ;

Are the military installations in MARTE and DIKWA super camps?

Its scary how they were comfortably attacked in the midst of a military offensive. Marte own dey vex pass.
All F.O.B in the north east has been reduced to form Super camps.
Marte was attacked not once before it fell, in my own opinion one should blame top brass in the Army and Airforce, where is the air force in all these siege. For a place that was under attack between weeks, there should be constant air surveillance on the general area to where they're are lunching the attack from and to checkmate them.
Marte fell due to constant pressure/attack on the super camp, I think this is the first time a "super camp" will be captured by BHT/ISWAP.
