MILITARY AND SECURITY AGENCIES CONDUCT JOINT OPERATION AT NTAK IKOT AKPAN IN ESSIEN UDIM LGA OF AKWA IBOM STATE The general security situation in Akwa Ibom state has been very peaceful until recently when the security situation around Essien Udim Local Government Area of the State became tensed occasioned by activities of some hoodlums and criminal elements. The miscreants exploited various avenues to acquire weapons to perpetrate their heinous crimes. In the past few weeks, the group has attacked various security agencies which resulted in the loss of lives and carting away of weapons. The last incident led to the killing of some Policemen including a CSP. The hoodlums continued to terrorise law abiding citizens through extortions and infringement on their rights. Consequently a combined team of Military and Security Agencies in the State conducted a clearance operation at Ntak Ikot Akpan to in order to flush out the miscreants. The operation was successfully executed and resulted in the dislogment of the criminals while fleeing hoodlums were neutralised by the Air Component. Normalcy has been restored in the area while the Police personnel have since assumed full control and carrying out normal duties. Members of public are advised not to panic but to remain calm and continue to support the security agencies to further consolidate on the successes recorded so far. CAS IN MAIDUGURI, CHARGES TROOPS TO REMAIN RESOLUTE AND UNDETERRED The Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Oladayo Amao, has stated that the events of the past few days involving the unfortunate crash of an Alpha-Jet aircraft should inspire and spur Nigerian Air Force (NAF) pilots, technicians and ground troops to remain resolute, unrelenting and undeterred in the fight against insurgency in the North East and other parts of the country. He stated this while on another visit to the Air Component of Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Maiduguri and after receiving a brief from the Air Component Commander, Air Commodore Nnamdi Ananaba, on the ongoing collaborative efforts with the Nigerian Army (NA) to locate the actual site of the Alpha Jet crash. According to the CAS, “despite the sad events of the past few days, now more than ever before is the time that the NAF must show strength, determination and remain undeterred and unrelenting until the entire North East is rid of terrorists and other criminal elements”. Air Marshal Amao noted that, while a lot has been achieved towards degrading the capacity and capability of the insurgents, much more is needed to be done to achieve the desired level of peace and security in the Region. According to him, “We must continue to work assiduously, in synergy with sister Services and other security agencies, to ensure that peace and security of lives and property are achieved”. On the issue of the crashed NAF Alpha-Jet aircraft, which was declared missing on 31 March 2021 after losing radar contact, the CAS stated that the videos being circulated on social media alluding that the aircraft was shot down were false. According to him, 'from critical analysis of all available intelligence, it was obvious that the air accident was caused by other factors soon to be unraveled.' He went further to state that efforts were still on, in collaboration with the NA and other security agencies to find the crashed aircraft as well as the 2 pilots so as to bring the matter to closure. Air Marshal Amao assured the troops of his support to them as they intensify efforts towards ensuring that the fight against insurgency comes to an end in no distant time. He further reassured them that the entire Nation is behind them and supportive of their efforts hence the need for all to remain focused. The CAS also used the occasion of the visit to thank the President and Commander-in-Chief of the AFN, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his encouragement and unrelenting support to the NAF. The visit coincided with the Easter celebration where the CAS dined and interacted with the troops while also commending them for their efforts towards projecting air power as well as providing close air support to ground troops in the fight against insurgency. Air Marshal Amao was accompanied on the visit by the Chiefs of Training & Operations, Aircraft Engineering and Logistics as well as some retired senior NAF officers. The Theatre Commander Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Major General Farouk Yahaya, was also on hand to update the CAS on the activities of the entire North East Theatre. tutudesz:It wasn't an AAG or missile hit, they where just fortunate to get to the crash site first. Trust me BHT will use any slightest opportunity for there propaganda videos. R.I.P. to these brave pilots. |
seankafor:Can't count the number of times the army has gone for rescue missions and it turns out successful during my years in service. We've gone for missions for recovering damaged vehicles, missions to recover fallen soldiers and missions to rescue soldiers that are trapped behind enemy lines. The fact that you don't hear them doesn't mean it does not happen |

ARMY CLEARS AIR OVER MILD COMPLAINTS BY FRONTLINE TROOPS OVER DEPLOYMENT Our attention has been drawn to an unsubstantiated reports going round on the mainstream media that Soldiers of an unidentified battalion in Operation Lafiya Dole have protested their posting to a location in the Theatre of Operation. The reports also claimed that the aggrieved soldiers, besieged the headquarters of the Theatre Command in Borno State, shooting sporadically into the air on Thursday to protests over alleged unpaid Operational allowances as well as obsoleted equipment. For the records, The Headquarters Theatre Command Operation LAFIYA DOLE wishes to state that the claims were unsubstantiated did not represented the true situation of the incidents. Preliminary investigations by Theatre Commander, Operation Lafiya Dole, Maj. Gen. Farouq Yahaya, revealed that what some media reports described as protest was a mild complaints by few soldiers of Mobile Strike Team (MST), deployed for Exercise Tura Takaibango in the frontline of Operations. At about 3pm on 25 March, 2021, some of the troops of Mobile Strike Team 10 & 11 who were primed to conduct phase 2 of Exercise TURA TAKAIBANGO in Bama after the first phase of the exercise, raised some concerns which was quickly addressed before they were relunched to the second phase of the Operations. On the issue of ‘obsolete weapons’ as reported in some media, the position of Army Headquarters is that soldiers have right to demand for proper weapons to prosecute the operations. However, the Federal Government was making concerted efforts toward deploying new fighting equipment to augment the existing ones in the Theartre of Operation. The Army wishes to also deny report that any soldier was owned any operational allowances. No soldier was owned any Allowance in the Theartre. We shall continue to remain focused and determined to perform our constitutional roles and responsibilities professionally in the protection of the sovereignty of our nation and ensuring the safety of lives and property while we clear the terrorists, their cohorts and collaborators in the country. DEFENCE HEADQUARTERS TAKES LEAD IN ALL JOINT OPERATIONS - Air Marshal Amao The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Air Marshal Oladayo Amao has stated that the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) and other sister Services have agreed to subordinate themselves to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ) under the able leadership of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Lucky Irabor. According to him, just as it is obtainable in military organizations worldwide, the DHQ is responsible for the command and control of the entire Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) which also means that all ongoing joint operations and Joint Task Forces are directly subordinated to the DHQ, and their commanders report directly to the CDS. This, he said, is the new line the Service Chiefs have all agreed to tow as efforts are on to bring the various security challenges to an end. Air Marshal Amao made this known in Makurdi while on his maiden tour of Tactical Air Command (TAC). According to him, 'When we say we are members of the AFN, we mean the 3 Services represent a single entity. When we accept the fact that we the members of the AFN constitute a united entity, the need for rivalry will not arise.' Air Marshal Amao also spoke of his administration's resolve to revert to the military tradition of adherence to seniority and hierarchy in the appointment of officers to head command posts. 'Situations where subordinate officers are given command appointments ahead of their seniors does not augur well for the system as this breeds insubordination and indiscipline'. Speaking on discipline, Air Marshal Amao stated that there would be no sacred cows when it comes to discipline as those found wanting would be punished as ascribed in the Armed Forces Act. He also spoke of the impending arrival of some platforms purchased for the NAF to Makurdi and urged personnel to support the 131 Engineering Group, being the hub of some of the platforms, as well as make the foreign technicians feel at home. The platforms, according to the CAS, when fully operational would be deployed immediately to the theatres of operations and should hopefully be the game changers in all DHQ led operations nationwide. The CAS also stated that efforts were currently underway to improve the combat efficiency of the NAF and other services to an appreciable level and these efforts have the full backing of the President and Commander -in - Chief of the AFN, President Muhammadu Buhari. He then enjoined NAF personnel to continue to support the Federal Government in its efforts to equip the NAF and other Services. Personnel welfare also got a boost as the CAS assured that non promotion of NAF personnel due to inability to attend courses that should enable their upgrading would be given special consideration as soon as they meet the criteria set for the promotion. On NAF post service housing schemes, the CAS frowned at the situation where personnel are compelled and put under financial duress just to meet up with initial deposits for the houses. According to him, 'Housing schemes by the NAF should be easily affordable and stress-free.' He then directed the Chief of Administration to work out modalities where payment for houses would be deducted from monthly salaries and not in lump sums that usually exert undue pressure on personnel. 'These practices have proven to be effective and efficient in other developing countries and I see no reason why we can't try it here', he said. The visit, which had the Chiefs of Training and Operations, Logistics, Air Intelligence and Aircraft Engineering in attendance saw the CAS tour various units within TAC Makurdi.
