1. On 21 May 2020, troops of Army Super Camp 11 Gamboru deployed in Ngala LGA of Borno State based on credible intelligence rescued a local who was abducted around Wulgo general area by some Boko Haram criminals. The hot pursuit by the troops forced the abductors to abandon their victim and flee. The troops also recovered 5 bicycles belonging to the abductors.

2. In another development, on 20 May 2020, troops of 251 Task Force Battalion Strong Response Area Dolari deployed at Internally Displaced Persons’ Camp II in conjunction with elements of Borno State Civilian Joint Task Force arrested one Bakura Rawa Modu who was detected loitering within the Camp. During preliminary interrogation, the suspect claimed to be a Motor Boy and further confessed to being a Boko Haram member for the past 5 years. He also disclosed that he coordinated several suicide bombings within Konduga general area in addition to his participation in series of Boko Haram attacks on both military and civilian targets. He further confessed to be a spy sent to monitor activities of troops within the Internally Displaced Persons Camp.

3. Similarly, on 18 May 2020, troops of Strong Response Area Ngoshe while on patrol intercepted a woman named Maryam Ali in the bush. Preliminary investigation revealed that the woman was abducted by Boko Haram criminals 5 years ago after they killed her husband. She further revealed that her escape from Boko Haram criminals was made possible by the devastating artillery and mortar bombardments on the Boko Haram criminals enclave in Gava, Gwoza LGA of Borno State by Nigerian Army troops that killed 15 of the insurgents while many others including herself suffered various degrees of wounds. She was however given First Aid by the troops and later moved to a medical facility for further management.

4. Elsewhere in the North West Region, on 22 May 2020, troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI deployed at Forward Operating Bases Wuya and Jangebe conducted a robust fighting patrol to Doka and Tungar Duna Villages in Anka LGA of Zamfara State. The resilience of the troops led to the discovery of a kidnappers’ hideout at Tungar Duna and subsequent rescue of 6 kidnapped victims from the den as the criminals fled on sighting the advancing troops. The rescued victims have been debriefed and reunited with their families.

5. Similarly, on 20 May 2020, troops of 1 Battalion in conjunction with other security agents mobilized and rescued one Alhaji Ibrahim who was kidnapped by bandits in Laga Village of Bagudo LGA of Kebbi State. Sustained pressure by the Search and Rescue Team made the bandits to abandon the victim and flee. However, the victim was rescued unharmed and subsequently reunited with his family.

6. In another development, on 19 May 2020, the resilient troops of 17 Brigade deployed at Maidabino while on routine patrol intercepted 4 armed bandits riding on 2 motorcycles at Leletu Village moving towards Dunya Forest in Danmusa LGA of Katsina State. In a desperate bid to escape, the bandits opened fire with no effect on the troops while the troops responded effectively, thus neutralizing one of the criminals. Furthermore, troops recovered one AK 47 Rifle, one AK 47 Rifle magazine, 20 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition, 2 motorcycles and one handset.

7. Also, on 18 May 2020, troops of 11 Field Engineer Regiment acting on credible intelligence arrested a notorious bandit named Haruna Habu at Kagadama Village in Kubau LGA of Kaduna State and recovered Improvised Explosive Device accessories including explosives, detonating cord, pressure plate, some documents and a locally made weapon from the suspect.

8. In the North Central Region, gallant troops of Operation SAFE HAVEN successfully conducted a raid operation at a bandits’ hideout in Angwan Sarkin Yamma of Mangu LGA of Plateau State on 19 May 2020. The operation led to the recovery of 2 Dane Guns, 6 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and one black military belt.

9. Relatedly, on 19 May 2020, troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE raided a suspected armed bandits’ hideout at Sai in Katsina Ala LGA of Benue State which led to the arrest of one of the key members of Gana militia group named Vandegha Mallika who has been on the wanted list of security agencies for the past 2 years. Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect had participated in several kidnappings, armed robberies, extortions and other forms of banditry activities mostly in Benue State. Furthermore, the suspect recently threatened to assassinate the ruler (Ter) of Katsina Ala and burn his palace over the ruler’s opposition to Gana’s criminal activities.

10. Also, on 19 May 2020, same troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE deployed at Kufai Amadu in Takum LGA and Akate in Donga LGA of Taraba State acting on credible intelligence simultaneously raided 2 separate locations at Vingre along Takum-Wukari Road and arrested 3 suspected kidnappers. The arrested suspects later led troops to a location where they buried arms. Consequently, troops recovered one AK 47 Rifle, 2 AK 47 Rifle magazines, 26 rounds of 7.62mm Special ammunition and one handset.

11. In the South South Region, on 19 May 2020, acting on credible intelligence, troops of 16 Brigade Garrison (Main) deployed in Harry's Town, Rivers State stormed a sea pirates’ hideout at Erisekin. Suspects fled the hideout on sighting the approaching troops’ gunboats. Nevertheless, troops recovered one Pump Action gun, one motorcycle and 2 live cartridges from the sea pirates’ den.

Most of you on this thread are just here to hype the Nigerian military and sing their praises to the high heavens.. that shit is worse than you think. Unfortunately 80% of you here aren't in the military present or past. You just salivate with the pictures you see on the internet.

Note , I was in the system, 174 battalion
Nobody talked sense into my head before I hustled my discharge certificate even though I saw hell before I finally got it.. even thought of going Elvis was part of my plans too but all in all, army no worth am. Forget what you see in the media. If you are/was in the system, you go understand better
You must have been those who where in the N.E theatres during the dark days and am not saying it’s easy. If you like join the United States Army or any of this European military the army is for a rugged soul.
I must say 85% of those who join the military or Army most especially joined it because of poverty or they needed a job, the military is not for everybody. That’s what we don’t know in this country.
I was bread and grew up Kadunna State and there are military formations or barracks everywhere, My dad drove to meets his friends in Kalapanzi artillery Barracks in Kakuri Kaduna States in the 80’s, I see those neatly kitted soldiers well dressed and that’s how my love military started.
Dear friend the military is a place of adventure mixed with adventure and disaster, learn how to enjoy both, that’s the life of a man in Uniform.

I don't think they are still operational. When was the last we saw footage of a drone strike from NAF?
@xbee007 you shouldn’t be saying this grin
You are an old member on most of the thread. Even when we just acquired those drones how many “drone strikes” have they showed us ?
I doubt if they are all up to five ! A drone strike is very expensive this you know and the impact is not that devastating like dropping a 500kg bomb grin
Drone strikes are for high value targets, the last drone strike of NAF was a strike on an artillery truck which if allowed to used against ground troops would be devastating.
The NAF keeps good condition of its assets especially the new ones, remember over 85% of assets are airworthy now.

EID-EL-FITR: CAS CELEBRATES SALAH WITH FRONTLINE TROOPS, CHARGES THEM NOT TO GIVE BANDITS BREATHING SPACE

In keeping with the tradition of celebrating festive period with frontline troops to boost their morale and foster comradeship, the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar today, 24 May 2020, visited 213 Forward Operation Base (213 FOB), Katsina to celebrate Eid-el-Fitr with the frontline troops of Operation HADARIN DAJI. The CAS who was represented by the Air Officer Commanding, Special Operations Command (AOC SOC), Air Vice Marshal Charles Ohwo, charged the troops not to give bandits any breathing space. He said they must continue to work in synergy with sister Services and other security agencies to ensure that the capacity of the bandits to carry out attacks on innocent citizens is drastically reduced. According to him, “It has become imperative that we do not give these miscreants any breathing space and as well reduce their capacity to carry out attacks on innocent citizens. It is in furtherance of this that we have deployed more platforms and 60 Special Forces (SF) personnel to support the Operation in the Northwest”.

Air Marshal Abubakar remarked that wining and dinning with troops in mission areas was particularly dear to him. “This has become a tradition since my assumption of Office as it serves as an avenue to foster comradeship as well as ease the tension the operational environment creates, whilst reassuring you of our commitment to continuously cater for your welfare and provide the much-needed support to prosecute your missions”, he said. He noted that, in the last four and half years, the Nigerian Air Force (NAF), had taken giant strides by inducting new platforms and reactivating grounded ones. He stated further that the the Service has also trained many pilots, engineers, technicians as well as Regiment and SF personnel. The training, he said, is in line with his vision to build the capacity of the Service to enable it effectively and efficiently tackle current and emerging security challenges. The CAS noted that a lot was at stake in the war against banditry and kidnapping. “We must not allow ourselves to be taken unawares. I therefore enjoin all NAF personnel to remain displined and not to relent in their efforts towards the safety and security of our citizens”, he added.

While thanking the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Muhammadu Buhari, for his continued support to the NAF, the CAS enjoined the troops to take responsibility in the fight against COVID-19. He said the NAF has provided them with face masks that must be worn at all times. He charged them to maintain physical/social distancing in public gatherings and strictly adhere to the guidelines and protocols as issued by the Federal Government and Headquarters NAF, including regular washing of hands with soap and use of hand sanitizers, whilst endeavouring to educate their families on the dangers of the virus.

The CAS had earlier feted NAF troops deployed to Gusau in Zamfara State, Agatu in Benue State, Lafia in Nasarawa State and Gembu in Taraba State, where he appreciated the gallant efforts of the personnel towards ensuring that communities where they are deployed, and Nigerians at large, are secured and able to go about their lawful businesses without fear or intimidation. He commended the Air Component Commander Operation HADARIN DAJI, the Commanders of 207 Quick Response Group Gusau and 213 FOB Katsina as well as as the Commanding Officers of the Quick Response Wings (QRWs) in Agatu, Lafia and Gembu, along with their officers and airmen/airwomen for their conduct and high level of professionalism in ongoing operations. He also thanked the Government and people of the host States and Communities for their hospitality and cooperation with the NAF.

Nigerian Army Secretly Trying Soldier Who Criticised Service Chiefs..

The Nigerian Army is secretly trying a soldier, Mohammed Abdullahi, for making ‘unguarded comments’ on social media about the tenures of the current service chiefs, a military source has revealed.

The staff sergeant, according to the source, was accused of critising the extension of the tenures of the service chiefs, saying it is “slowing morale in the rank and file of the forces.”

The source said Mr Abdullahi, with service number 97NA/44/315, is facing disciplinary action following the comments.

The service chiefs include the Chief of Defence Staff, Gabriel Olonisakin; Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai; Chief of Naval Staff, Ibok Ibas, and the Chief of Air Staff, Sadiq Abubakar.

The Army Intelligence Corp (NAIC) has investigated the soldier’s comments and its findings will form the basis of the trial, the official briefed on the case told PREMIUM TIMES.

The source informed PREMIUM TIMES that the investigation of the soldier was authorised by Mr Buratai in February this year.

The soldier is being accused of flouting the Nigerian military’s 2018 policy on the use of social media, which prohibits certain conducts by military personnel on social media, the source added.

Many soldiers have reportedly been punished under that policy in the past.

PREMIUM TIMES learnt that Mr Abdullahi’s social media comment irked the senior military officers, who moved to sanction him.

When contacted about the matter, spokesperson of the Nigeria Army, Sagir Musa, said he was not aware of the matter and could not comment on it until he saw the document PREMIUM TIMES referenced.

“I’m not aware of this! But if you have any document or evidence indicating there is such development kindly forward it to me to facilitate or assist in finding out so that I can brief you accordingly,” he said.

PREMIUM TIMES has seen part of a document that referenced Mr Abdullahi’s social media comment on tenures of service chief and the NAIC investigation that was authorised by the COAS.

The referenced document sighted by PREMIUM TIMES is not being made public, because doing so could reveal the identity of the source.

Soldier’s grouse

The soldier’s post reportedly criticised the continued stay in office of the service chiefs.

The current service chiefs are the longest-serving set since the return of democracy in Nigeria in 1999. This has angered many who believe such top officers should not spend more than two years, or at most four in office.

President Muhammadu Buhari appointed them on July 13, 2015, with the general expectations that their tenures would end in two years or thereabouts.

It was expected by many that by then, most of them who were then nearing the end of their military careers would have retired. But that turned out not to be the case.

The Armed Forces of Nigeria’s Harmonised Terms and Conditions of Service (HTACOS) is clear about the tenures of the service chiefs and the prerogatives of the President and Commander in Chief in extending their tenures.

Section 09:08 of the HTACOS, also known as ‘official service order in the military’ states that, “An officer appointed to the substantive appointment of the Chief of Defence Staff, Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff and the Chief of Air Staff will hold the appointment for a continuous period of two years. The appointment could be extended for another two years from the date of expiration of the initial two-year period.”

In 2017 when the current service chiefs’ two-years tenures expired, President Buhari exercised his powers as enshrined in the HTACOS, to extend their stay in office for another two years which was expected to finally expire by 2019.

Also, at the time President Buhari extended their tenures in 2017, some of the service chiefs had clocked their compulsory retirement age of 35 years in service.

Their continued stay has no doubt created ripples within the armed forces and the public as the military continues to battle an unending insurgency in the North-east and calls intensify that the officials be replaced.

Mr Abdullahi’s post reportedly highlighted how military personnel were being shortchanged as per progression in ranks.

‘Long tenures’

Chief of Defence Staff, Abayomi Olonisakin
The current Chief of Defence Staff, Mr Olonisakin, an army general, enrolled into the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) as a member of the 25th Regular Course, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in 1981. This means he was supposed to have clocked 35 years of service in 2016.

The Chief of Naval Staff (CNS), Mr Ete-Ibas, got inducted into NDA as a member of the 26th Regular Course in June 1979 and got commissioned as a sub-lieutenant on January 1, 1983. He was to have retired from service in January 2018.

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar,
Chief of Air Staff (CAS), Mr Abubakar, an air marshall, enlisted into the Nigerian Air Force as a member of the Cadet Military Training Course (CMTC 5) in November 1979. He was supposed to have retired since 2014.

Disenchanted personnel?

The source said many military personnel have continued to lament the continued stay in office of these top soldiers, claiming it affects the career growth of younger officers.

The source, who requested for non-attribution for fear of being sanctioned, said the NAIC had concluded the investigation on Mr Abdullahi “who may be undergoing a military trial and subsequent disciplinary measures as recommended in the NAIC report.”

The source said the NAIC also recommended that stiffer measures be put in place to curb such actions of ‘misconduct’ from other officers in the future.

The source said all commanding officers across various army formations and divisions had, in early May, received a directive from the COAS as recommended by NAIC. PREMIUM TIMES is yet to authenticate this claim.

The directive reportedly reminded personnel “of the need to imbibe the Nigeria Army core values as contained in traditions, customs and ethics of the Nigeria Army.”

35 years In Mind…….A Hero Of Our Time..
we’re yet to have such a talented officer.
At the time he was arrested on Dec 17th, 1985 and charged for conspiracy to commit treason, Wing Commander Ben Ekele was 36 years old and an Igala from Kogi State, he was a Fighter Pilot and Commander of the Air Defence Group based at the NAF Base Makurdi, a dogged flight pilot Air Force officer in the Nigeria Air Force, best fighter pilot in Nigeria, Africa & third in the world during his time.
He began his flying career in 1969 after completion of basic flying training. In 1971 he was deployed to the operational conversion squadron first on the Czech made L-29 Delphin, then the MiG 15, and then on to the MiG 17. He went to the Soviet Union in 1974 for conversion to the MiG 21 (training and fighter versions).
From 1976 to 1977 he was sent to the Royal AirForce in Britain where he qualified on the Jet Provost Marks 4 & 5 and also flew the Gnat fighter and Hawker Siddeley Hawk, in addition to attending a weapons employment course. Missile training took place at armament camps in Sardinia, Italy and the west coast of Wales (Abeforth).
From September 1977 until December 1980, Ben Ekele set up Nigeria’s first Mig 21 operational conversion unit as the Officer Commanding. Ekele trained practically the entire first generation of locally trained Nigerian MiG 21 pilots. From December 1980 until December 1981 he attended the Joint Services Staff College in Wellington India.
When he came back from India he was simultaneously appointed the Staff Officer, Operations Strike Group and the Officer Commanding the Operational Conversion Unit and the Air Defence Unit all based in Makurdi. Then Squadron Leader Ekele was the ground commentator during the fly past of AirForce jets at the 1982 Independence parade in Abuja, while then Major Iyorshe organized the ground parade. After the Buhari coup of Dec 1983, Ekele was promoted and became the Commander of the combined Strike Group (comprising MiG 21s for interception/air defence and the SEPECAT Jaguar for Ground Attack/Strike) and NAF Station Commandant. On November 11, 1984 the Strike Group was split into Strike and Air Defence groups respectively, relieving Ekele of simultaneous control of both groups of aircraft. A new Station Commandant was appointed in the reorganization.
Wing Commander Ekele took part in several AirCraft Acquisition Evaluation trips on behalf of Nigeria. In 1978 he was on the team that assessed the French Mirage F-1. In 1980 he was on the team that evaluated the Sia Machetti 260, the Agusta 109 helicopter and the MB339 jet trainer. In September 1984 he went to the USSR to familiarize himself with the new MiG 21B air-superiority fighter which Nigeria had acquired. During that visit he also took part in negotiations with the Russians to purchase more modern bombs for the MiGs. Apparently the Russians had been supplying Nigeria with WW2 stock bombs with large profile – which increased fuel consumption merely for flying during operations.
In Nov 1984 he was in the US evaluating the F-20 Tiger Shark. In 1985 he was sent to India to evaluate the HP 34 Hindustan Aeronautic Trainer (Indian version of the Agusta).
During the Nigeria-Chad border conflict of 1983 Ekele led a strike aircraft group that straffed islands in the Kinasara area of the Chad basin, in support of the 21st Armoured Brigade to repel the Chadian invasion. He also commanded the AirForce detachment during Operation SeaDog in Calabar – a joint exercise designed to test responses to situations in the Bakassi area. Interestingly Lt. Col. Bitiyong was an observer during that exercise.
He was arrested in Benue state Airforce base in Dec 17, 1985 for being part of the plan to overthrow IBB’s Gov’t and was executed alongside 12 other officers in March 5, 1986 by Firing Squad.
May his soul continue to rest in peace...

These 3 units are purchased by the Ministry of Transport for the Nigerian Navy.

SamuelAnyawu:
There was an argument between I and my colleagues sometime ago. It was an issue on why military Gunners on Hilux mostly carry a bell beside them. I was of the opinion that they ring it just to create alert, but my colleague said the dudes ring it sometimes so they can hear properly cheesy. That the Gunners due to gun sounds have become partially Deaf.

Military dudes over to you guys
I think Brenda Uji the veteran journalist once did a research on this ?
It’s to gear them up in case of adversaries confronting BHT when the bell is been rang.
Anybody who can help with the YouTube link.

OPERATION HADARIN DAJI AIR COMPONENT DECIMATES ARMED BANDITS CAMPS, KILLS 135 OF THEM IN AIR RAIDS CONDUCTED IN KATSINA AND ZAMFARA STATES

1. As part of the renewed offensive to rid the North West of the Country of armed bandits and other criminal elements, the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI has decimated several camps and neutralized no fewer than 135 armed bandits in massive air raids executed at several locations in Katsina and Zamfara States between 20 and 22 May 2020. The air strikes were undertaken sequel to credible Human Intelligence (HUMINT) reports as well as series of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) missions that led to the identification of the camps, which include Abu Radde Camps 1 and 2 and Dunya in Jibia and DanMusa Local Government Areas (LGAs) of Katsina State as well as Hassan Tagwaye’s Camp; Alhaji Auta’s Camp and Maikomi in Birnin Magaji and Zurmi LGAs of Zamfara State.

2. The air interdiction missions were painstakingly undertaken by the Air Component as it dispatched its attack aircraft to the locations in multiple bombing runs, some of which were executed simultaneously. At the Abu Radde Camps on 20 May 2020, a set of huts housing one of the notorious bandit leaders was taken out by air strikes with scores of the bandits killed and few seen fleeing with gunshot wounds towards the Dumburum Forest. Similar air raids were executed at Hassan Tagwaye’s and Alhaji Auta’s Camps as well as at Maikomi with equally devastating effects. HUMINT reports later confirmed that no fewer than 135 bandits were neutralized by the series of air strikes at the various locations.

3. The Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) commends the Air Component of Operation HADARIN DAJI for their professionalism and directs them to remain resolute, in order to achieve the directives of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) to restore normalcy to all parts of Nigeria.

Toju200:
but why do y'all think the police ain't using their Helicopters.
Some of their helicopters has been equipped by the NAF with GPMGs.
The were used to eliminate some elements of Ansaru terrorists earlier this year ;
They only act on executive order: they don’t see it has a duty they should always execute often.

Whyem15:
I don't know how feasible this is but I feel the Nigerian police force should be temporarily stripped of all the helicopters in it's air wing and transferred to the NA for scouting and patrols. If the army has to take over the functions of the police force, they should also have access to the equipments the police force is meant to be using which they are not utilizing.
