The Federal Government has announced plans to enhance aviation and airspace security through major upgrades to radar systems and the deployment of advanced counter-drone technologies, with Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo stating that the initiative will extend radar coverage beyond the current 5,000-foot limit and introduce counter-UAV systems, including jammers, to protect airports and Nigerian Air Force bases nationwide.

The Ministry disclosed that ongoing discussions with Qatar’s Barzan Holdings will integrate world-class command, control, and surveillance systems into Nigeria’s aviation infrastructure, in collaboration with the Nigerian Air Force, to improve threat detection, build local capacity, strengthen national security, and advance technological development in the management of Nigeria’s airspace.

OPERATION IGBO IDANU I: TROOPS DEAL STRATEGIC BLOW TO TERRORIST NETWORK, OVERRUN KEY CAMP AND RECOVER ARMS

Troops of 12 Brigade, Nigerian Army, have recorded a major operational success under Operation IGBO IDANU I, dealing a decisive strategic blow to a notorious terrorist network linked to Kachalla Ibrahim and Shu’aibu in Kogi, state.

Advancing through dense forest, difficult terrain, and multiple riverine obstacles, the troops displayed exceptional resilience, professionalism and tactical discipline. Despite severe movement constraints caused by fallen trees and marshy ground, the force pressed forward with determination, highlighting the unflinching resolve of the Nigerian Army to dismantle terrorist strongholds and restore lasting security in the area.

The operation, personally led by the Commander 12 Brigade Nigerian Army Brigadier General Kasim Umar Sidi, involved troops dismounting and advancing on foot to achieve tactical surprise and operational dominance. This bold manoeuvre enabled the force to penetrate deep into the terrorist enclave, resulting in the complete overrun of the camp. Although the terrorists fled on sighting the advancing troops a thorough exploitation of the objective led to the recovery of significant quantities of arms and ammunition, including eight boxes of 7.62 x 54 link ammunition containing bandolier of 250 rounds each and one box of high-velocity grenades. These recoveries have significantly degraded the terrorists’ operational capability and logistics base.

Following the successful clearance operation, the terrorist camp was systematically destroyed and set ablaze to deny the criminals any opportunity of reoccupation. Troops have continued aggressive patrols and sustained offensive operations within the general area to exploit the success, disrupt fleeing elements and prevent regrouping.

This operation sends a clear and resounding message to terrorist elements that their hideouts will continually be identified and neutralised, reaffirming the firm commitment of the Nigerian Army to safeguarding lives, protecting communities and ensuring lasting peace and security across the region.
This always irritate and infruitate me when i hear stuffs like this about terrorist always fleeing when sighting government forces advancing.

Why can't we have a full stealthy SOF sting operations that would catch these mofos on surprise and send them to there creator.
In few month now they would be back to the same forest to hibernate and start their mission all over again.

CAS MEETS AIR COMPONENT COMMANDERS, OUTLINES ROADMAP FOR SUSTAINED AND INTENSIFIED AIR OPERATIONS

The Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Air Force’s uncompromising resolve to intensify air operations against insurgent and terrorist elements, declaring that the Service remains fully committed to decisive, intelligence-driven action across all theatres. Speaking at a high-level strategic meeting with Air Component Commanders (ACCs) on Tuesday, 10 February 2026, the CAS described the engagement as a critical warfighting review forum designed to sharpen operational effectiveness and accelerate the restoration of peace nationwide. He stressed that the gathering enabled commanders to rigorously evaluate ongoing missions, close operational gaps, and align strategies with emerging threats in an increasingly dynamic security environment.

Emphasising that counter-insurgency operations demand speed, precision, and relentless pressure on hostile elements, Air Marshal Aneke charged commanders to sustain operational dominance. “We must dominate the operational space through superior coordination, innovation, and unwavering professionalism. Every sortie, every mission, and every decision must move us closer to total security restoration,” he said, while reaffirming that the Nigerian Air Force will continue projecting overwhelming airpower in support of ground forces and joint operations. Commending the ACCs and their personnel, he praised their courage and discipline under demanding combat conditions, noting that their sacrifices have degraded insurgent capabilities and disrupted hostile networks. “Our personnel remain our greatest strength. While cautioning that the security landscape remains fluid and requires constant adaptation, the CAS directed intensified intelligence-led operations, stronger inter-agency collaboration, and full exploitation of modern technology supported by standardised training, predictive maintenance, and responsive logistics. He assured Nigerians that the Nigerian Air Force is maintaining relentless operational momentum and will not yield ground to forces threatening national stability. “The Nigerian Air Force stands as a shield over the nation. We remain vigilant, aggressive against threats, and fully aligned with our constitutional duty to safeguard the country,” he affirmed. Who has an idea of the numbers of aircraft and make the Nigerian Army has in operation or on order??

I heard the DHQ Director of Media Operations, Maj Gen. Michael Onoja saying NA deployed their aircraft airwing and troops in association with NAF to root out terrorists and bandits across the country.

So I'm wondering what aircraft was in use. I remember they ordered 12 MD Cayuse Helos sometime last year or so but don't know about deliveries.
Iirc, the Hueys purchase was for the Airforce?
For the NA arm aviation; they currently operate Bayraktar TB2, some sources claimed 43-46. But am not so sure or can comfirm this.
Also we operate 2 Bell UH-1H "Huey" helicopters (NA 010 and NA 011) and they have ordered 12 MD Cayuse & Magnus MF-212 light attack and surveillance aircraft.
And all of a sudden everything went quite with the procurement.

DSS Arrests, Arraigns Suspects Over 2023 Murder of Four Soldiers

Three years after the murder of four soldiers in Ashaka Aboh, Ndokwa East LGA, Delta State, the Department of State Services (DSS), have arrested two suspects, linked to the killings.

Sources told Zagazola Makama that the suspects, Ufuoma Sunday James and Lawrence Umuakpero Oboguayivwgue, were also implicated in the beheading of Chief Okwudili Obi (aka Odumodu), the self-proclaimed traditional ruler of Asemoku Community, amid a 2023 communal crisis.

It would be recalled that, in February 2023, military personnel deployed on a peace mission during a communal crisis between Kwale and Asemoku communities in Ndokwa East LGA were ambushed by hoodlums allegedly led by James, resulting in the death of the soldiers and theft of their weapons.

Credible security sources revealed that in January 2026, DSS operatives, acting on credible intelligence, apprehended the suspects, who have reportedly confessed to the crimes and admitted involvement in gun-running and other violent incidents.

DSS operatives have been investigating the case for over a year now and in January this year, they received accurate intelligence which led to the arrest of the suspects," offered the source

'The suspects have confessed to the crimes and also admitted to other crimes including gun running, kidnapping and other violent incidents. They have been arraigned before a state high court in Kwale where the judge ordered that they be remanded in a correctional centre pending trial," added the source.

"This arrest represents a major breakthrough in the Department of State Services' (DSS) ongoing investigations into cold cases, demonstrating the agency's commitment to pursuing justice despite the passage of time," stated another source.

"It also underscores the effectiveness of coordinated intelligence efforts in resurfacing long-dormant leads and reassures communities that no violent crime, particularly those targeting security personnel will go unpunished," he declared.

Further information is coming to light regarding the extent of Nigeria’s military collaboration with the United States. Reports suggest that the U.S. has sought approval to set up a drone refueling station in Nigeria. This facility would aid U.S. drones based in Accra, Ghana, from which America currently carries out ISR missions over vast areas of Nigerian land.

While the exact types of drones involved have not been publicly confirmed, it is most likely the MQ-9 Reaper. These drones utilize Honeywell TPE331-10 turboprop engines and generally operate on JP-8 or similar kerosene-based fuels.

Negotiations are reportedly at an advanced stage, with a state in Nigeria's North East identified as the potential host. Although the U.S. initially suggested Lagos or Abuja for the station's location, both options have been dismissed.

NAF SUPER PUMA RETURNS TO SERVICE AS CAS CHARGES PERSONNEL TO BOOST OPERATIONAL READINESS

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has recorded a major operational boost on 4 February 2026 with the commissioning of the reactivated Super Puma helicopter (NAF 565) at 205 Rotary Wing, Ikeja, Lagos, as the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), Air Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke, reaffirmed the Service’s determination to sustain decisive airpower in defence of the nation. Describing the event as a symbol of renewed capability, the CAS stated, “This occasion is not merely about the return of an aircraft to our fleet, but a demonstration of our unwavering commitment to enhance and sustain a highly motivated, professional, and mission-ready force.” He emphasized that restoring legacy platforms remains central to strengthening national security and ensuring the Air Force maintains operational superiority across theatres.
Air Marshal Aneke, expressed deep appreciation to the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, noting that the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda is translating into tangible capability gains through strategic acquisitions and restoration of critical assets. VonSmallhausen:
All these mass killings are getting too much. We need to genuinely investigate and pin these crimes to particular groups and make sure they pay for these crimes no matter how far they run.

The fact that there seems to be no consequence for these things is the reason why it keeps happening. All this terrible news just makes us sound lawless to anybody hearing this news outside the Country. This is just soo sad.
Jama'at Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin is trying to establish a strong hold in Kwara/Niger/Kogi State and the earlier the better they're wiped out. This is why i said we need serious security help, things are really falling apart.
